The VR Job Hub: In The News & In Your Future?

The race towards 2019 has begun in earnest and for some, that also means it is time to move on to pastures new. If that desire has hit you, and you’re interested in the immersive technology sector, then you’ll probably be interested in this week’s edition of The VR Job Hub.

Since it’s been a little while since I’ve written the Job Hub I thought for this week we’ll concentrate on roles at companies that have been in this week’s news. Such as Eyekandy, who we reported about on Friday with their augmented reality (AR) retail platform. Or Improbable, who have recently announced a new London headquarters. Or, how about a role at SIE Japan Studio, the team behind Astro Bot: Rescue Mission?

Don’t forget, if there wasn’t anything that took your fancy this week there’s always last week’s listings on The VR Job Hub to check as well.

If you are an employer looking for someone to fill an immersive technology related role – regardless of the industry – don’t forget you can send us the lowdown on the position and we’ll be sure to feature it in that following week’s feature. Details should be sent to myself (keva@vrfocus.com) and also Peter Graham (pgraham@vrfocus.com).

Check back with VRFocus next Sunday at the usual time of 3PM (UK) for another selection of jobs from around the industry.

PlayStation Japan Release Farpoint Video, a Trailer it is not

Here at VRFocus we do enjoy the odd Japanese videogame trailer or two, especially the ones that go beyond the basic gameplay showcase adding that humour and originality that only the Japanese can provide – just look at the party political style promo video for V! No Heroes Allowed R! for example. One of the latest to be released by PlayStation Japan is for first-person shooter (FPS) Farpoint, and as usual it’s great fun to watch whether you understand it or not.

As VRFocus can neither speak nor write in Japanese, knowing what exactly is going on in the video is a little tricky but for our readers we’ve dug a little deeper into what the heck is going on. As you may well be aware earlier this month Farpoint  developer Impulse Gear released a new update for the PlayStation VR exclusive title, called ‘Versus Expansion Pack’.

The update is centred around the two new PvP modes: Deathmatch and Uplink which the guys in the video are promoting. They are comedy duo Drunk Dragon with the third chap being former mercenary journalist Masaki Takabe. The basic premise seems to be that Drunk Dragon are fighting one another in one of these new modes without much success. So in comes Takabe to help offer some pointers to beat each other.

I that’s not right or you want to elaborate further please do let us know in the comments section below.

The ‘Versus Expansion Pack’ also saw three new maps added: Underworld, Pipeline, and Permafrost, each with 3 areas, 15 new weapons and three new skins, all unlocked by gaining player and weapon XP awarded in Challenge, Co-Op and PvP game modes.

New Japanese PlayStation VR Trailer Showcases Winter Releases

This holiday period is going to be a big deal for PlayStation VR owners. Following the successful launches of Gran Turismo Sport and No Heroes Allowed! VR, a number of big name titles are heading to the virtual reality (VR) platform in the coming months. Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan (SIEJ) has revealed a new trailer to showcase the full line-up.

Featured in the trailer are highly anticipated titles such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, Bravo Team and The Inpatient from British studio Supermassive Games, fishing experience Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV, Resident Evil VII biohazard’s latest downloadable content (DLC), entitled Not a Hero, the recently revealed Gungrave VR and the ultra violent DOOM VFR, as well as the aforementioned Gran Turismo Sport and No Heroes Allowed! VR.

All of the above titles are expected to receive both North American and European launches, however Gungrave VR does not currently have a release date penned-in for either territory. Of course, Gran Turismo Sport and No Heroes Allowed! VR are already available worldwide.

The PlayStation VR has recently seen a boost in sales in Japan, accredited to the launch of a new edition of the head-mounted display (HMD). This new model, known as CUH-ZVR2, launched earlier this month and brought with a number of small yet significant updates. Chief among these is a new embedded audio cabling option and high-dynamic range (HDR) passthrough on the control box, removing the need for PlayStation 4 Pro gamers to remove the PlayStation VR from their console when wishing to play traditional monitor-based videogames on a 4K HDR compatible television.

PlayStation VR 2 headsetThere’s currently no word on when the PlayStation VR CUH-ZVR2 model will launch in North America and Europe, however the recent discontinuation of the original PlayStation VR model suggests it won’t be long until this revised edition arrives at retail in the west. It should be noted that the PlayStation VR CUH-ZVR2 model will not see the HMD rise in price and is compatible with all existing PlayStation VR content.

The brand new Japanese trailer for the PlayStation VR winter line-up of videogame titles follows below, and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on every new videogame coming to the VR platform.
