Tournament Paintballer Snapshot VR Hits Steam in September

Snapshot VR

Giant Scam Industries paintball inspired arena shooter Snapshot VR launched yesterday for PC VR headsets on Viveport. The studio has now confirmed the early access launch on Steam will take place at the beginning of September (not August like the listing currently states).

Snapshot VR

Available through the Viveport Infinity subscription service, Snapshot VR is a quick-fire first-person shooter (FPS) where rounds can be over in less than a minute. Modelled on real-life paintball tournaments, two teams of up to five players must eliminate each other in compact, dynamic maps.

Snapshot VR dispenses with a lot of the bloat of other multiplayer shooters, featuring one-shot kills, physics-based projectiles, and nearly unlimited map variety. There’s a training mode where players can place either stationary or moving targets via the 2D Paintball Field Creator, then head out solo or as a team to run drills to learn how to be a cohesive unit.

“We are stoked to finally get Snapshot VR into the hands and headsets of players,” said Jesse Keogh, Founder and Lead Engineer at Giant Scam in a statement. “We’ve been working night and day to bring a polished and, most importantly, fun multiplayer experience to VR platforms and can’t wait for players to get involved.”

Snapshot VR

Having played competitive paintball the Giant Scam team has ensured the VR experience lives up to its real counterpart. So pre-made maps are based on real-world NXL layouts whilst a wealth of metrics and information is available for post-game analysis so teams can tweak their strategies. There will also be three locomotion options so that most players can comfortably and easily move in the hectic environments.

Snapshot VR will be available through Steam on 1st September 2020, supporting Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. As further details are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.

Arena Shooter Snapshot VR Hits Steam This September, Out Now On Viveport

Fast-paced paintball-inspired arena shooter, Snapshot VR from Giant Scam Industries, is out in Early Access now for all major PC VR headsets on Viveport for $19.99 or in the Viveport Infinity subscription plan. It’s also coming to Steam on September 1st.

Last month we revealed the game by highlighting its focus on emulated the paintball experience and now, with its Early Access launch on Viveport, anyone can jump in and check it out. Notably, you don’t even need to pay full price for the game if you don’t want to since it’s included in the Viveport Infinity subscription service, which is quietly becoming one of the best deals in VR even at full price.

What sets Snapshot VR apart is of course the focus on emulating a paintball experience. This means no respawns, one shot and you’re out, and a big focus on tactical movement around intricate maps. This isn’t trying to replace Onward or Pavlov, but is instead aiming to offer its own spin on the genre that’s all about speed and quick reactions.

Snapshot VR will feature actual official National Xball League (NXL) maps and allows players to create their own custom maps using 2D Paintball’s Field Creator that can be exported into Snapshot VR. It should be interesting to see what players can come up with.

Snapshot VR is out now on Viveport, including Viveport Infinity, with specific support for Rift, Rift S, Vive, Vive Pro, Cosmos, Cosmos Elite, Windows MR, and Index from the start. The Steam launch is planned for September 1st.

The VR Game Launch Roundup: Guns Galore (and a Little Football)

Onward - Oculus Quest

It’s been a good week for virtual reality (VR) releases with the likes of In Death: Unchained and Dreams VR support. Next week continues that positive trend with another nice selection of titles to keep VR fans happy.

Pistol Whip - Full Throttle

Pistol Whip – Cloudhead Games

Originally released for PC VR headsets and Oculus Quest in November 2019, now it’s the turn of PlayStation VR to support this rhythm-action experience. Featuring thumping tunes and highly stylised design, Pistol Whip challenges players to complete scenes by shooting enemies, dodging bullets and pistol-whipping them in time to the music. It’s also a bit of a workout.

  • Supported platforms: PlayStation VR
  • Release date: 28th July

Wrest – Shaftesbury Lucid Inc

Pushed back for its initial launch date in April hopefully this won’t happen again. Wrest is a horror title where you play an engineer called Andy Bishop, who wakes to discover a terrifying mystery unfolding in his home. For those that want to test the experience first, developer Shaftesbury Lucid Inc has already made a demo available on Steam.

Snapshot VR – Giant Scam Industries

An arena shooter offering solo and team-based modes, Snapshot VR has been designed around professional paintball tournaments with up to 5-players per side. Coming to Viveport first, the gameplay is very fast and frantic with teams having an average of only 45 seconds to win. Plus there’s a map editor for community content creation.

Onward – Downpour Interactive

Another big title due to arrive for Oculus Quest, the popular PC VR military shooter will feature crossplay support. There are solo and co-op, and multiplayer gameplay modes, providing AI opponents to hone those skills before trying a 10-person battle with three objectives to chose from; save a VIP, control an Uplink station or secure an area to upload a code.

Headmaster Keeper

Headmaster: Extra Time Edition – Frame Interactive

An original launch title for PlayStation VR in 2016, developer Frame Interactive has teamed up with Perp Games to release Headmaster: Extra Time Edition as a physical edition featuring the original experience as well as the DLC. It’s all about practising those football headshots across a range of less than traditional training challenges.

  • Supported platforms: PlayStation VR (physical edition)
  • Release date: 31st July

Snapshot VR Will Bring Tournament Paintball to PC VR Headsets This Summer

Snapshot VR

There’s been a blast of virtual reality (VR) videogames announced this week and here’s one more for all you competitive first-person shooter fans, Snapshot VR.

Indie developer Giant Scam Industries has revealed its first VR title Snapshot VR, which aims to marry professional paintball tournaments with immersive gameplay.

Team-based with up to 5-players per side, Snapshot VR looks set to be far more frantic than other arena shooters in this class as teams have an average of only 45 seconds to win. They can do this by eliminating the other team or hitting their buzzer but there are no respawns, no armour or other tools to rely on.

Featuring three locomotion options so that players can effectively and comfortably move in a manner that best makes use of those valuable seconds, Snapshot VR will provide plenty of stats to perfect those tactics. Players will be able to evaluate matches through heat-maps and other stats for a thorough post-match analysis, from where players scored an elimination to which bunkers were most effective.

Snapshot VR

Additionally, the title will provide official National Xball League (NXL) maps as well as the chance to build custom maps using 2D Paintball’s Field Creator which can be exported to Snapshot VR. Using a standard grid players choose a layout and then add cans, pylons, cakes, snakes, and other obstacles to the arena. These can also be swapped on-the-fly prior to a match.

“We are super excited for players to play Snapshot VR and experience what we’ve been working so hard on,” said Jesse Keogh, Founder and Lead Engineer at Giant Scam in a statement (who has a decade of experience in competitive paintball as both a player and coach). “We wanted to make a game that truly feels like playing paintball — fast-paced rounds, one-shot kills, rapid-fire projectiles, no respawns — but isn’t subject to some of the limitations of the real-life sport.”

Giant Scam Industries will be launching Snapshot VR into Early Access this August, supporting Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Support for additional VR devices is also planned. As further details on Snapshot VR are released, VRFocus will let you know.

Snapshot VR Is A High-Speed Paintball-Style Shooter, Coming This August To PC VR

Snapshot VR is an upcoming paintball-style arena shooter with a focus on team tactics and high-speed action, coming this August to PC VR from Giant Scam Industries. It even features official NXL professional paintball maps!

Watch the announcement trailer, including gameplay footage, right here:

If you’re a fan of Rec Room paintball, like the look of Solaris: Offworld Combat, and wish there was something designed around being extremely fast-paced with next to zero room for error, then Snapshot VR could be for you. From the moment a match begins you need to scramble to key firing lanes to hold down positions and use call outs to communicate with your team and adapt.

According to the press release, matches usually don’t even last a full minute so hopefully loading wait times are extremely low or non-existent. You get shot once, you’re out. No respawns, no armor pick ups, no killstreaks — either kill the other team or hit their buzzer to win.

Snapshot VR features 5v5 matches that require “snapshot” accuracy. This is a paintball term that refers to the ability to quickly rotate, aim, and fire from behind cover. Leaning into this connection even more, Snapshot VR will feature actual official National Xball League (NXL) maps and allows players to create their own custom maps using 2D Paintball’s Field Creator that can be exported into Snapshot VR.

The developers at Giant Scam Industries are also focused on providing lots of stats and analytics, including heat maps for post-match analysis on specific arenas to formulate better strategies.

You’ll also be able to pick from three different locomotion methods, but we don’t know what those are exactly yet. Judging from the trailer, full smooth locomotion seems like a given. You’ll also be able to pick from lots of customization options, which is oddly lacking from most VR shooters.

Snapshot VR is slated to hit PC VR headsets on Steam Early Access and Viveport this August. Specifically, developers plan to support Rift, Rift S, Vive, Vive Pro, Cosmos, Cosmos Elite, Windows MR, and Index from the start.

Oculus Quest with Link Cable should work as well through Steam, but there’s no word on an official Quest version or PSVR version at this time.
