ARK Park Hits Retail Locations in North America, Europe, and Australia

PlayStation VR owners have the benefit of being able to buy their videogames both digitally, off the PlayStation Store, and physically from retailers for select titles. Today, Snail Games has announced that ARK Park will be joining those select few with consumers in North America, Europe, and Australia able to purchase the title at retail locations now.

The dinosaur-themed multiplayer online adventure takes a somewhat different approach to gameplay than the videogame its based on, Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved. Instead, players find themselves inside a dinosaur theme park, able to freely explore this grand, virtual world where there’s no set plotline or schedule.

Players are able to explore ten large maps containing dinosaurs, ancient creatures, collectables, challenges and easter eggs. With both single-player and multiplayer options locations can be explored by yourself or with a group of other players. Users will be able to collect ‘Gene Fragments’ which can be found using various combinations of puzzle-solving, reflexes or resource management to get hold of the rarest fragments. These fragments can then be used to unlock new crafting blueprints, or even new maps to explore.

“ARK Park has sold incredibly well worldwide since its March release,” explains Snail Games in a statement. “The game was the third best-selling PSVR title in Japan, which prompted Snail Games to move forward with a physical release after repeated requests from the Japanese community. Also, ARK Park sold out in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia.”

If you buy the physical version of ARK Park will also get to enjoy the “Pterosaur Hill” DLC for free – which introduced the Crystal Sky, Mountain Lake, and Aviary maps a few months ago.

The retail version of ARK Park will be priced at $39.99 USD / $49.99 CAD / £44.99 GBP / €39.99 EUR/ $69.99 AUD for the Standard Edition. For further updates keep reading VRFocus.

Snail Games’ ARK Park to see a Physical Release this Fall for PlayStation VR

Snail Games launched dinosaur spin-off ARK Park from Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved back in March for  PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. For dino fans eager to get hold of a physical copy of the videogame on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) headset, worldwide distributor Solutions 2 GO has announced retail stores will see be stocking the title this Fall.

ARK Park takes a completely different angle to ARK: Survival Evolved’s survival sandbox gameplay where players have to tame the reptilian creatures and create their own settlements. Instead, players find themselves inside a dinosaur theme park, able to freely explore this grand, virtual world where there’s no set plot line or schedule.

In the videogame players will have the opportunity to explore ten large maps containing various creatures, collectables, challenges and easter eggs. Locations can be explored by yourself or with a group of other players. Users will be able to collect ‘Gene Fragments’ which can be found using various combinations of puzzle-solving, reflexes or resource management to get hold of the rarest fragments. These fragments can then be used to unlock new crafting blueprints, or even new maps to explore.

Adding to the interactivity, simulation elements such as dinosaur breeding, where players can collect and take care of eggs are also available. Depending on the dinosaur once an egg has been hatched, the creature can be raised and trained. In the case of more dangerous dinosaurs players will sometimes need to fight them using a selection of weaponry, both ranged and melee, this can be done either alone or in co-operative multiplayer.

Currently Solutions 2 GO has confirmed an exact date other than ‘Fall 2018’ or how many territories the company plans on distributing the title in. When those details become available VRFocus will let you know.

New Screenshots Released For Upcoming ARK Park: Pterosaur Hill DLC

Earlier this week it was announced by developer Snail Games that their virtual reality (VR) title ARK Park would be getting a free downloadable content (DLC) that will bring plenty of new and exciting elements to the dinosaur filled title. Now, a number of screenshots have been released giving players a chance to see the upcoming DLC for themselves.

ARK Park - DLC - Screenshot

The title was first launched back in March and since then players have been asking for more with the developers bring a number of updates to the title but the new DLC, dubbed Pterosaur Hill, will be the first large content update to the title and hopefully not the last. Some of the past updates that players might remember include the addition of a free locomotion update along with visual improvements. The team at Snail Games have expressed they are committed to ARK Park and in an interview with VRFocus not to long ago discussed their future plans for the title regarding content.

In the screenshots players get a look at the new content alongside some stunning environment shots. The developers have commented that the DLC is built around the concept of flight and will introduce three new maps. Mountain Lake: Offering a bird’s eye viewpoint of the area from a hot air balloon. Crystal Sky Lift: Which will give players a chance to “soar through the clouds” and Aviary, a location which will put players face-to-face with the Quetzalcoatlus – the largest prehistoric flying creature.

Elsewhere new weapons and items will be included and some of them can be seen in the gallery below. You will also notice a dinosaur that is indeed a skeleton. Snail Games seem to keen to keeping the tone of ARK Park: Pterosaur Hill in line with the rest of the title and that is going to be welcomed by players for sure. As mentioned the DLC is going to be free and set to release sometime in June, 2018. VRFocus will be sure to bring you all the latest on the DLC, including its release date, in the future so make sure to stay tuned for more.

ARK Park Takes To The Skies In Free DLC Coming Next Month

If the earlier announcement of the Star Trek: Bridge Crew DLC centred around Star Trek: The Next Generation got you excited for new content of a fictional future yet to come, you’ll be delighted to know that the past is getting similar treatment  by way of another virtual reality (VR) videogame – or at least the past with a hefty future twist on things.

ARK Park - DLC - ScreenshotSince its launch back in March, VRFocus readers have not been shy on social media in telling us how Snail Games’ ARK Park hasn’t quite ticked all the boxes they wanted, whenever we mention the title. Although, it does seem some of that ire may have been misdirected and instead was more aimed at Studio Wildcard’s management of the franchise’s origin title ARK: Survival Evolved. Snail Games for their part have been involved with the series since the end of 2016, and ARK Park – which takes a slightly more educational angle – has received a number of updates over the last few months, including locomotion and visual improvements. The developer even sat down with VRFocus not that long ago, to discuss their thoughts on VR and their future plans regarding content. The first part of that content expansion has today been confirmed, and the great news is that the DLC is going to be free.

Pterosaur Hill is coming to the title at the end of June and is, according to the developer, built around the concept of flight and introducing three new maps. Mountain Lake: Here you’ll be able to take in a bird’s eye viewpoint of proceedings in a hot air balloon, as well as using the more familiar land-based vehicles. Crystal Sky Lift: Which will allow you to “soar through the clouds” and lastly, Aviary. Here you will come face-to-face with the Quetzalcoatlus – the largest prehistoric flying creature – in its nest.

Naturally, there’s been the addition of some more creatures into ARK Park besides the Quetzalcoatlus, and the new species include the Diplodocus, Pachyrhinosaurus, Compsognathus, Therizinosaurus, Gallimimus, Meganeura (giant dragonfly) and the Arthropleaura millipede, the largest known land invertebrate of all time, which could grow to metres in length.

ARK Park - DLC - ScreenshotWhilst ARK Park has more educational elements that doesn’t mean its shy on action, as you might have already guessed. So, if you ever wanted to mount a Pterosaur to engage in some dogfighting then we’ve got good news. If you wanted to wave around, say, a samurai sword while doing so? Snail Games have got you covered with a number of new weapons too.

We will bring you more news about how and when the DLC will roll out to PC and console when we hear further. Until that time be sure to check back throughout the day on VRFocus for more VR gaming news.

ARK Park On PlayStation VR Gets Free Locomotion And Visuals Improvements

Developer Snail Games has announced a new update to the PlayStation VR version of their virtual reality (VR) spin-off to ARK: Survival Evolved which brings a number of bug fixes and a new locomotion options. ARK Park on PlayStation VR is not only getting a new locomotion system and bug fixes and both the graphics and frame rate have been improved also.

Ark Park Screen 12

The new free update brings the mentioned locomotion system to the title, which was recently also released on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, allowing players the option to pick between the new free locomotion system or stick with the current teleportation method. Both of which have seen a number of improvements to ensure that players have the best experience regardless of which method they pick. Furthermore to this, Snail Games have added a number of tutorials to the title to help with the explanation of the movement systems.

Elsewhere in the new update PlayStation VR users will be able to know that the development team have been hard at work to also improve the graphics of the title. In fact, the graphics have been improved by 16% in the visual fidelity department – according to the developers – resulting in a more vivid and realistic experience without compromising on the frame rate of the title.

This visual improvement has been achieved by the team trying a different rendering mode that was able to give them a small gain in resolution, more effective anti-aliasing, and a boost to bloom lighting. The team at Snail Games were also able to spend some time on particular maps to bring out the fine detail in each model and texture within the title, further improving the overall visual visual fidelity.

Alongside the release of the new free locomotion system and the numerous improvements to the visuals of the title, a few bug fixes have also been pushed out as well. This includes fixes to the fuzzy fonts on the character creation interface and the addition of an explanatory prompt for the Gatling gun. The new update that includes all of the above content is available now for ARK Park on PlayStation VR.

ARK Park is currently available on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. In case you missed it last month VRFocus got a chance to talk to Snail Games about their plans for ARK Park and where they hope to take the title next.

Snail Games Discuss ARK Park VR And Future Content In Interview

Snail Games, the developer behind the recently release virtual reality (VR) multiplayer adventure title ARK Park sat down with VRFocus’ Nina Salomons to talk about the title and their plans for the future of VR.

A VR spin-off to the hugely poplar ARK: Survival Evolved, ARK Park released last month for PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift giving players a chance to get closer than ever before with the many dinosaurs that are at the theme park. Players are able to explore a large location with 10 different scenes alone or with friends and learn about the many dinosaurs within the title. Collecting DNA and materials allows for players to trade for other useful items which will aid in the combat side of things, where players must hold out against wave of anger creatures by any means possible.

Sitting down with Sky Wu, Executive Producer at Snail Games, the team behind ARK Park, VRFocus discussed a number of topics regarding the title and future content. For starters, to make the title more accessible to a wider audience the decision was made to use only one type of character movement within the title. Though more veteran VR players will be accustom to a range of movement controls, the teleport movement was seen as the most accessible and therefore was used for the title.

The choice to make the title in VR was an easy choice for the team as they felt that creating an experience where you are able to get up close and personal with dinosaurs like never before. The team at Snail Games are looking to expand the title with DLC and explore the creative opportunities within VR more. From the player feedback, they note that there is a lack of gameplay content but Sky Wu stresses that more gameplay content is coming in the future by means of DLC.

When asked about if the company would be looking to explore experiences in augmented reality (AR) or mixed reality (MR), Sky Wu confirmed that the company are working on things to take advance of the technology but more details on these products will be released in the future.

Snail Games’ Multiplayer VR adventure ARK Park Launching 22nd March

Dinosaur fans will be able to go on an epic adventure next month as Snail Games has now confirmed the launch date for  ARK Park as 22nd March 2018.

Ark Park Screen 12

Originally announced back in November 2016, Snail Games collaborated with Studio Wildcard to create an offshoot of the latter’s ARK: Survival Evolved videogame. Unlike ARK: Survival Evolved – which is virtual reality (VR) compatible – ARK Park isn’t a survival experience where you have to build a base and train dinosaurs. Instead ARK Park is more of an educational experience that immerses you in a world where living, breathing dinosaurs are still roaming the earth.

Built around more of a Jurassic Park theme where you enter a theme park to take tours and witness these prehistoric creatures up close and personal. You’ll be able to visit over 10 unique scenes alone or with a group of friends in multiplayer and raise your own dinosaur if you’re lucky enough to find an egg whilst out and about.

To add a more interactive element to the whole experience you’ll be able to collect dinosaur DNA, gather materials, and craft items. Collect DNA and materials from the dinosaurs you encounter on your excursions, trade them for Engrams at your base camp, then use those Engrams to craft helpful items. You’ll also need to defend vital areas as some of these creatures aren’t the most friendly, so you can team up with other players to defend important research outposts and valuable technology from rampaging dinosaurs.

ARK Park will see a simultaneous launch on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in six weeks time. Snail Games hasn’t yet confirmed what the retail price for the experience will be. As further details emerge in the run up to launch, VRFocus will keep you updated.

Dino Adventure ARK Park Delayed Until Spring 2018

ARK Park, an official virtual reality (VR) spin off of Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved has been delayed until Spring 2018, developer Snail Games has confirmed this week.

Ark Park skull

The title was originally due for release in time for Christmas on PlayStation VR, but the studio has announced on Twitter that it needs more time in development. The post explained: “ARK Park is still in development and will be postponed to spring 2018. We are truly sorry for any disappointment this delay might cause. ARK Park is coming. We just need a bit more time. At the meantime, we will keep you updated on the progress!”

Snail Games then followed up that news with a positive announcement, that the Spring launch wouldn’t just be for PlayStation VR, that ARK Park would see a simultaneous release on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift as well. Whether the triple launch has caused the delay or more time was needed to polish ARK Park hasn’t been revealed.

Unlike ARK: Survival Evolved which is all about learning to live on an island full of dinosaurs, creating a base and taming the creatures to aid survival, ARK Park aims to be a much more educational experience where you can interact and learn about dinosaurs up-close and personal.

ARK Park will give players the opportunity to explore ten large maps containing various creatures, collectables, challenges and easter eggs.

As further details on ARK Park are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.

ARK Park Gets PlayStation VR Launch Date

Though ARK: Survival Evolved is no longer planning to include virtual reality (VR) elements, its spin-off title, ARK Park will still be letting players roam with dinosaurs and other creatures in VR. The development team have also now confirmed that the title will be coming to PlayStation VR at the end of this year.

Snail Games have confirmed they are planning a Christmas release for ARK Park, anticipating a December 2017 release on PlayStation VR. The emphasis will largely be on exploration and collecting, though there will be some combat elements and mutliplayer options.

Players will be able to explore ten large maps containing various creatures, collectables, challenges and easter eggs. Maps will be available to explore by yourself or with a group of other players. Users will be able to collect ‘Gene Fragments’ which can be found using various combinations of puzzle-solving, reflexes or resource management to get hold of the rarest fragments. These fragments can then be used to unlock new crafting blueprints, or even new maps to explore.

Simulation elements are also involved, such as dinosaur breeding, where players can collect and take care of eggs. Once they hatch, they can be raised and trained and even used as transportation. Some dinosaurs are not as friendly, however, so players will sometimes need to fight against hostile giant reptiles using a selection of weaponry, both ranged and melee. Players can choose to fight alone or team up with other players for co-operative multiplayer.

ARK Park will support Dual Shock and PlayStation Move controls, and will feature a variety of language options.

VRFocus will bring you further information on ARK Park as it becomes available.
