Anticipated VR Adventure ‘Behemoth’ Delayed Until Late 2024

Skydance Interactive, the studio behind The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, revealed their next VR game Behemoth is being delayed by a year, now slated to arrive on all major headsets in late 2024.

The studio confirmed the delay with UploadVR, also noting that the game now has a new name: Skydance’s Behemoth.

First revealed at Meta Connect 2022 this time last year, the upcoming VR adventure puts you in what the studio calls a “plague-ravished wasteland of a once glorious empire, where its inhabitants are driven mad and cities have fallen to ruin.” In the story-driven campaign, you combat towering giants called Behemoths.

The studio also released a single work-in-progress image of the game (above), which more clearly shows one of the titular behemoths.

Behemoth is coming to Quest (presumably 2/3/Pro), PSVR 2, and PC VR sometime in late 2024. Meanwhile, we’re curious to see just how gameplay stacks up to the studio’s other skull-splitting adventure, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.

Stealth-action Game ‘Arashi: Castles of Sin’ Coming to All Major VR Headsets This Fall in ‘Final Cut’

Skydance Interactive announced during UploadVR’s Summer Showcase that the award-winning stealth-action VR game Arashi: Castles of Sin (2021) is finally making its way to major VR headsets this fall.

Developer by Endeavor One, Arashi: Castles of Sin is slated to bring its visceral melee combat to Quest 2, Quest 3, PSVR 2, and PC VR headsets for the first time.

Initially released exclusively on PSVR back in 2021, the studios say we can expect from the new ‘Final Cut’ version “improved visuals, updated enemy and boss behavior, revamped controls, and tons of additional quality-of-life features.”

Here’s how Endeavor One describes the action:

In Arashi: Castles of Sin – Final Cut, you’ll step into the shoes of deadly shinobi assassin Kenshiro and embark on a quest for justice, becoming one with the shadows as the last surviving member of House Arashi. This is your chance to experience feudal Japan in an era where the country is in chaos as the Six Oni of Iga have seized castles across the country, carving a bloody path of terror in their wake.

The game features a pretty wide assortment of weapons, tools, and techniques, all of which help you infiltrate conquered castles and outwit your enemies as you hunt down each Oni, the studio says.

Arashi: Castles of Sin – Final Cut is slated to arrive on the PSVR 2, PC VR and Quest platform sometime this fall. We’ll be keeping our eyes on the game’s new Twitter profile for more updates as they arrive.

‘The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2’ Announced for PSVR and PSVR 2

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution was previously confirmed for Quest 2 and PC VR headsets, however during PlayStation’s State of Play event, developers Skydance Interactive announced the game’s much awaited sequel is also coming to PSVR and PSVR 2.

Playing again as ‘the Tourist’, the Chapter 2 is said to feature an original storyline, more patented freedom of choice, and plenty of visceral combat and opportunities for bone-splitting melee. The game is also set to include new weapons that provide “unique methods of combat not previously available.” Sounds gory.

Skydance says the sequel will include silencers that help you avoid alerting the undead when using firearms, new guns like the SMG and sawed-off shotgun for better ranged horde control, and a chainsaw to tear through anything in your path, which the studio notes will come at the cost of its bulky weight and its need for fuel.

There’s also a nemesis called ‘The Axeman’ who you might remember from the original game’s Aftershocks expansion. The studio says the enemy is “just one of the major ways Retribution plans to reignite a sense of fear and danger into players in unexpected ways.”

Outside of that, the game promises a “greater numbers of walkers” and “more complex battles against armed and dangerous human combatants.”

Chapter 2: Retribution is coming later this year, although you shouldn’t take that as a tacit announcement of PSVR 2’s launch date—it’s still not clear when Sony intends on releasing its next-gen headset. In the fine print in the game’s announcement on the PS blog, the studio says Chapter 2 is currently set to come to PSVR in late 2022 and PSVR 2 in 2023.

‘The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners’ Sequel Coming to Quest 2 & PCVR Later This Year, Trailer Here

It’s been a little over two years since The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (2020) shambled onto VR headsets, serving up 20+ hours of zombie-slaying nightmare fuel. Now the developers are unveiling more of the upcoming standalone sequel, Chapter 2: Retribution.

The Walking Dead: Saints & SinnersChapter 2: Retribution lets you continue your journey through the post-apocalyptic world of New Orleans, one that studio says is “even more dangerous than before.”

Unveiled during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, we learned that means we can expect fewer resources, more walkers, and what Skydance Interactive calls “a new and bloodthirsty threat that will hunt you across the city.” That sounds like some added pressure to keep you on your toes.

Playing again as ‘the Tourist’, the game is said to feature an original storyline, more patented freedom of choice, and plenty of visceral combat and opportunities for bone-splitting melee.

Chapter 2: Retribution is coming later this year to Quest 2 and PCVR headsets. The studio says other VR platforms will be announced at a later date.

First Trailer Drops for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution

Today’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase has been filled with superb virtual reality (VR) content announcements and here’s another. Initially unveiled at the beginning of the year, Skydance Interactive has released the first (non-teaser) trailer for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution.

The Walking Dead S&S Ch2

Continuing the story from the successful 2020 videogame, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution puts you back in the shoes of The Tourist – who’s becoming less of a tourist now – trying to survive the post-apocalyptic streets of New Orleans. There will be a new original storyline for fans to enjoy, alongside the same freedom of choice and visceral combat the videogame is known for.

Part cinematic and part gameplay, the new trailer starts with a very dramatic introduction and monologue from a “new and powerful threat”. Chapter 2: Retribution looks to be even more hardcore zombie survival than the last, promising more zombies and even fewer resources. As you can see from the second half of the trailer, there are tons of zombie’s heads to pop, whack a big knife in or as the first teaser image highlighted, a big ol’ chainsaw to wield.

Zombies were never the only problem to deal with in New Orleans, there are still warring survivor factions to either help or kill, completing side missions to unlock valuable items and recipes. Skydance Interactive hasn’t said what new craftables or items are set to feature in the sequel.

The Walking Dead S&S Ch2

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners became one of the must-have survival VR games when it launched two years ago, going on to add extras like the Aftershocks update whilst achieving $50 million in revenue. In its review of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners gmw3 said: “From the very beginning, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers a satisfying zombie experience that’s hard to match. Titles like Arizona Sunshine easily fill that need for straight-up arcade action, for when you want a living dead apocalypse with a bit more depth then The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is your new go-to videogame.”

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution will be coming to Meta Quest 2 and PC VR headsets in 2022. Other headsets are to be announced, so considering the original did make its debut on PlayStation VR, a PlayStation version may also be on the cards. Check out the new trailer below and when more details are available, gmw3 will let you know.

Chapter 2 of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Confirmed

Can you believe it, it’s been a whole two years since Skydance Interactive released The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, providing one of the best zombie survival experiences in virtual reality (VR). Today, to mark the occasion the studio has announced a follow-up, continuing the journey in Chapter 2: Retribution.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution will be its own standalone title but will continue the storyline from the original, Skydance Interactive confirms. You’ll once again step into the shoes of The Tourist and try to survive in the zombie infested streets of New Orleans.

Currently, the development team has revealed that this new chapter will feature new characters and new threats to deal with. But it’ll still retain elements that made the original what it was, like making those difficult narrative decisions.

“The past two years have been absolutely incredible for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, and we’re grateful for the continued support from the player community who have helped make the game the success it is today,” said Chris Busse, acting head of Skydance Interactive in a statement. “We’re excited to announce Chapter 2, and we can’t wait to let players explore the new adventures that await them in the French Quarter and beyond.”

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

If you’ve not tried the zombie game yet, gmw3 said in its review of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners: “From the very beginning, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers a satisfying zombie experience that’s hard to match. Titles like Arizona Sunshine easily fill that need for straight-up arcade action, for when you want a living dead apocalypse with a bit more depth then The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is your new go-to videogame.”

That’s not all Skydance Interactive had to announce today. The studio also revealed The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners has surpassed $60 million USD in revenue across PCVR, PlayStation VR and Meta Quest. The studio hasn’t indicated when the new chapter might arrive so for continued updates on Chapter 2: Retribution, keep reading gmw3.

‘The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners’ Adventure to Continue in Standalone Game ‘Chapter 2: Retribution’

Skydance Interactive announced The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (2020), the zombie-filled survival horror game for all major VR headsets, is slated to continue in the newly unveiled standalone game: ‘Chapter 2: Retribution’.

Skydance isn’t calling Chapter 2 a sequel as such, however in a press statement the studio confirms it’s a standalone title that serves as a continuation of the storyline from the original game.

In it, players step back into the shoes of the Tourist in another gruesome bout of physics-based carnage set in the game’s post-apocalyptic New Orleans. It’s said to take place in “the French Quarter and beyond.”

“Along the way, players will encounter new characters and face new threats as they make gut-wrenching choices that will determine their fate,” the studio says. “Chapter 2: Retribution is a new, standalone game for players who want to jump straight into this new chapter of the Tourist’s story.”

We’re still waiting on more details, like when it’s set to launch. Skydance says more info is coming “later this year,” so we’ll be keeping an eye on their Twitter for any clues in the meantime.

If you haven’t had a chance to play The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, we gave the physics-based horror survival a [9/10] in our full review on PC VR back at its 2020 launch. The game’s visceral gameplay offers up 20 hours quests, exploration, and a narrative adventure that has you navigating the murky, zombie-infested waters of a gang-filled New Orleans. We also named it Road to VR’s Quest Game of the Year in 2020.

The game, which is available on Quest, PSVR, and PC VR headsets, has since received two major updates to expand its lengthy campaign, a wave-based mode called ‘The Trial’ and more missions in ‘The Aftershocks’ update.

‘The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners’ Surpasses $60M in Revenue Since Launch

Don’t ever say there isn’t money in VR game development. Skydance Interactive today announced that its hit zombie-slaying adventure The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (2020) has now passed the $60 million revenue mark across all supported platforms.

Update (January 24th, 2022): The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners has now reached $60 million in overall revenue—making for a $10 million bump since Skydance last released revenue figures in October 2021. Although not stated explicitly by the studio, this is likely a direct result of Quest 2’s popularity this holiday season.

Here’s some ‘back of the envelope’ math: assuming most of that $10 million was generated through the app on Quest, which regularly costs between $30 and $40 depending on periodic sales, this would indicate that TWD: SS sold between 250,000 – 333,333 units during the three months since they last released revenue figures. That makes for around 1,250,000 – 1,583,000 in copies sold to date.

The original article follows below:

Original Article (October 26, 2021): The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners initially launched on PC VR headsets in late January 2020, immediately garnering critical acclaim for its gritty physics-based combat and immersive zombie-killing action. Having arrived later that year on PSVR and the Oculus Quest platform, the game then celebrated its first year anniversary in January 2021 by announcing it had passed the $29 million revenue mark.

Since then, developers Skydance Interactive announced now they’ve nearly doubled the game’s first year revenue, which no doubt had something to do with the ongoing success of the Oculus Quest 2 headset, which arrived in October 2020.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners won Road to VR’s Oculus Quest Game of the Year in 2020 for good reason. Its highly immersive campaign focuses on a truly gruesome level of realism, and provides you with all of the tools necessary to resist hordes of walkers (and human gangs) that populate the murky, post-apocalyptic wards of a shattered New Orleans. It’s a bit like a pared down RPG with some open world elements, and we came to appreciate just how truly made-for-VR the entire thing was.

We gave it a resounding [9/10] in our full review on PC VR back then, however it’s changed a bit since launch in 2020. Saints & Sinners now boasts more than 20 hours of gameplay, which is partly thanks to continuous free content updates that have arrived over the past year. Outside of the truly awesome campaign, the game now includes a wave-based mode called ‘The Trial’ and an expanded bit of campaign in ‘The Aftershocks’ update, which includes a collection of post-game missions.

Here’s of some back of the envelope math, which we should note doesn’t include times when the game was discounted:

The more expensive ‘Tourist Edition’ on PC and PSVR sells for $50. That edition comes with a few digital perks that may not appeal to everyone though, so it’s likely most people purchased the standard $40 edition, which includes the campaign and all of the recent DLC. To date, that may put it somewhere between 1,000,000 – 1,250,000 total units sold across all platforms.

You’d be hard-pressed to find an exact formula for such relatively meteoric success in VR, since these sorts of numbers are still the exception and not the rule, although we’re willing to bet it has something to do with creating an extremely well-crafted game built from the ground-up for VR, hitching it to recognizable IP, and launching it on every headset possible.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Reaches $50 Million In Revenue Across All Platforms

Skydance Interactive announced that The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners reached a new revenue milestone across all platforms.

The game has now reached $50 million in revenue across PC VR, Oculus Quest and PSVR since its initial release in January 2020.

The game released first for PC VR before making its way to PSVR in May and then launching on Quest and Quest 2 (and as a launch title for the latter) in September. Throughout 2021, the game has continued to see new content arrive with both the Meatgrinder and Aftershocks updates adding new modes and post-campaign content entirely for free.

Back in April, Skydance revealed that in its launch month on Quest, Saints & Sinners sales more than tripled compared to its launch month on PC VR. That accounts for three platforms versus just one, but that being said, it’s clear that Quest games, in general, are performing well if not better than counterparts on other platforms.

As we’ve said before, Saints & Sinners’ success is well-deserved – the game sits high among our lists for the best VR games of all time and the best Quest releases. We loved the game at release and loved it even more in our recently-updated review (which takes into account the free Meatgrinder and Aftershocks updates) giving it an Essential rating.

It looks like there’s more to come too — some hints at the end of the most recent Aftershocks campaign seem to point towards more content that could be on the way.

The Walking Dead: Sainmts & Sinners is available now for PC VR, Oculus Quest and PSVR.
