The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Aftershocks Confirmed for Late September

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Having revealed that the popular virtual reality (VR) title The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners would be getting a big update called “Aftershocks” in May, developer Skydance Interactive had to delay the release due to “technical issues”. Today, the studio has confirmed that the update will arrive in September.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

The Aftershocks update is a big one continuing the campaign with new missions, supply caches to find and challenges to complete. In a statement the studio said that: “For our first simultaneous cross-platform content release, the team has been working hard at getting all versions of the update to live up to our standards. The content itself is playable and practically complete, but we are trying to smooth out as many rough edges as we can find.”

Due to the wait Skydance Interactive has released new details fans of the zombie survival experience have been clamouring for. For instance, because the update expands the campaign you’ll need to have completed the storyline to unlock the new content. Aftershocks include: “a number of Reserve Caches to find that are filled with late-game supplies and unique collectables, new enemy layouts and scenarios, a new type of environmental hazard to watch out for.”

The update should add around 4-6 hours worth of gameplay the studio expects – which is a whole game in itself in VR terms. File size estimations have also been listed at: PC VR – 31.3GB; Oculus Quest – 6.73GB, and PlayStation VR – 9.67GB currently.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Reviewing the PC version The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners in 2020 VRFocus said: “From the very beginning, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers a satisfying zombie experience that’s hard to match. Titles like Arizona Sunshine easily fill that need for straight-up arcade action, for when you want a living dead apocalypse with a bit more depth then The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is your new go-to videogame.”

Skydance Interactive will launch The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Aftershocks on 23rd September for all supported platforms. For further updates keep reading VRFocus.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners’ Aftershocks Update Has Been Delayed

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Last month Skydance Interactive announced that its hugely popular zombie survival videogame The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners would be getting a major update later this week, adding a whole new story chapter. Alas, that’s not to be – just yet – with the studio issuing a statement saying the launch has had to be delayed by several weeks.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

The statement reads:

“We have been spending a lot of time in the past weeks getting our game ready for the announced Aftershocks update. However, technical issues have arisen which we did not anticipate. Launching on multiple platforms and upgrading to a new engine version is tricky to say the least.

“The bottom line is that we do not want to ship without knowing that you can access the Aftershocks update on whatever supported VR hardware you are using and have an experience up to our standards. As such we have made the hard decision to delay this update initially planned for May 20.

“This delay may push the launch by several weeks. We know having a definitive answer is important, so we will reach back out on our social channels once we have a final date we are confident we can hit.

“Thank you for your support and patience.”

So for now The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners fans will just have to be content with the core campaign as well as The Trial horde mode. If you’ve not finished the main storyline then at least this gives you more time to enjoy the flooded remains of New Orleans and to find any secrets still lurking in its remains.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

From the details Skydance Interactive has released so far, the Aftershocks update continues the narrative. Without spoiling too much, throughout the single-player adventure you hear about ‘The Reserve’, a military bunker full of weapons, ammunition, food and other supplies. In the Aftershocks update, a stockpile of supplies from The Reserve has been located, which you need to find asap. Cue new missions, hidden collectables, and new survival tools.

Hopefully, the wait won’t be too excessive as the studio puts the finishing touches on the update. Once ready it’ll be free for all The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners no matter the platform. As further details are released, VRFocus will let you know.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Aftershocks Update Arrives in May

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Skydance Interactive’s The Walking Dead: Saint & Sinners became one of the biggest virtual reality (VR) titles of 2020, enabling fans to step into the zombie apocalypse and try to survive a flood ridden New Orleans. Since the initial launch, the developer has brought the title to numerous headsets including Oculus Quest as well as offering more action through The Trial horde mode. Today, during the Oculus Gaming Showcase, Skydance has unveiled the next chapter, Aftershocks.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

From the trailer that’s been released the update continues the campaign narrative where you were trying to find a fabled place called ‘The Reserve’, a sort after military cache full of weapons, ammunition, food and other supplies. A stockpile from The Reserve has appeared which means everyone living is after it.

Promising hours more gameplay The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Aftershocks will have new missions, hidden collectables, and new survival tools to aid the journey. “Accessible to those who have completed The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners campaign, this free update continues Skydance Interactive’s commitment to continue delivering more exciting content to the hit VR game and players can expect one of the most content-rich experiences in VR today with easily over 20 hours of game time,” notes Skydance Entertainment in a statement.

That’s not all fans of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners have to look forward to. Even more content is on the way with the studio planning to reveal details later in the year.

Reviewing The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners VRFocus said: “From the very beginning, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers a satisfying zombie experience that’s hard to match. Titles like Arizona Sunshine easily fill that need for straight-up arcade action, for when you want a living dead apocalypse with a bit more depth then The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is your new go-to videogame.”

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Aftershocks is scheduled to launch on 20th May 2021 as a free update. Even though the announcement was part of the Oculus Gaming Showcase the Aftershocks update will be for all platforms including Steam and PlayStation VR. VRFocus will report back and update the article accordingly.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Revenue Exceeds $29m in First Year, Quest ‘The Trial’ Update Incoming

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Skydance Interactive launched The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners at the beginning of 2020 and even with Half-Life: Alyx appearing shortly after still became a hit with players. Today, the studio has confirmed that success by revealing the videogame has surpassed more than $29 million USD in revenue across all platforms.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Released for PC VR headsets first, followed by PlayStation VR and finally the Oculus Quest platform in October, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners mix of crafting and physical combat wrapped in an original storyline has made it one of the best VR titles of 2020. Details regarding which platforms were most successful haven’t been released, but Skydance has said that even with its late arrival the Oculus Quest version sold 10x more than the Oculus Rift/Rift S version.

When it comes to the Oculus Quest version, players have been awaiting the release of a new gameplay mode called The Trial. The horde mode where players can rack up highscores battling wave after wave of zombies was originally due out last week but had to be delayed. The game mode will now arrive next Thursday, 4th February free of charge.

If you’ve not yet tried The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, the main campaign drops you in a partially flooded New Orleans as a drifter passing through town. Looking for supplies you’re caught up in the politics and battles of the townsfolk, all the while dealing with the undead menace lurking around every corner.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

VRFocus said in its review of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners: “From the very beginning, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers a satisfying zombie experience that’s hard to match. Titles like Arizona Sunshine easily fill that need for straight-up arcade action, for when you want a living dead apocalypse with a bit more depth then The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is your new go-to videogame.”

That $29 million is significant in counteracting the argument that VR doesn’t generate enough revenue for developers. It shows that a high-quality experience across multiple platforms can do just that, although it does help being based on a big IP. Revenue is also how Facebook tends to reveal how well content is doing, noting that Oculus Quest software sales had exceeded $100m in the standalone platform’s first year.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners ‘The Trial’ for Oculus Quest Has Been Delayed

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

After managing to bring The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners natively to the Oculus Quest platform in October, just before Christmas developer Skydance Interactive revealed The Trial horde mode would be arriving this month. That’s now been pushed back the studio has announced today.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

In a tweet, the studio said: “We know you’re all excited for The Trial’s launch on Oculus Quest, but we wanted to share an update that the release date will be pushed back a bit. We are just as eager for you all to jump into this new mode, and will have more information for you soon.” With no further information, it’s unclear when the update will be released.

The Walking Dead: Saint & Sinners – ‘The Trial’ was originally due to arrive this Wednesday as a free update, allowing players to dispense with the campaign and simply fight wave after wave of walkers in glorious combat. Now fans of the videogame will have to wait to use explosives to score multi-kills or increase their multiplier with decapitations and headshots for scoreboard greatness.

This arcade mode isn’t just about turning the action up to 11 either. Score big points and you’ll be able to access new weapons, all of which are available from the main game. Stamina and health boosts are there to help in a pinch, plus if you have time then get crafting. Several arenas are selectable for you to test those survival skills.

‘The Meatgrinder Update’ Out Now for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

The Walking Dead - Meatgrinder

If you love fighting hordes of zombies in virtual reality (VR) then Skydance Interactive’s The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is one of the best videogames to do that in. After the studio announced the ‘The Meatgrinder Update‘ last month it has now confirmed a release date for July, it’s today!

The Walking Dead - Meatgrinder

The content update will add a new gameplay mode to the experience, ‘The Trial’. For those that have completed the main campaign, The Trial adds a horde mode so you can fight wave after wave of undead monsters.

To face all those walkers you’ll need to be armed to the teeth but you’ll need to work for it. The mode starts you off with just a screwdriver and enough ‘bitecoins’ to buy another weapon of your choice – handy then that all the weapons from the main game will be unlocked for you. As the waves progress the walkers will become faster and increase in number. To earn maximum coins for new weapons you’ll need to perform stylish kills such as headshot, decapitations, long-range kills and more.

Additionally, the update will also include a new difficulty mode ‘Story’ for the single-player campaign, great for first-time players, as well as a new katana weapon called Absolution.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners ‘The Meatgrinder Update’ Adds new Game Mode in July

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Skydance Interactive’s The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners has been one of the most successful virtual reality (VR) releases of 2020, receiving praise from both PC VR and PlayStation VR players alike. Today, the studio has announced its first major content addition, The Meatgrinder Update, due for release next month.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

The upcoming update will add a new gameplay mode called ‘The Trial’, which is essentially a horde mode. That means rather than facing walkers in the main campaign you can dispense with the story and enjoy the visceral combat instead.

To help deal with all those waves of walkers all the weapons from the main experience will be unlocked. Like most horde modes all you have to do is survive for as long as possible, racking up as many points as possible by killing the zombies as quickly and in as many numbers as you can.

For those who like a challenge, the update will include new difficulty modes for the campaign, making it more casual or deadly as required. Plus, there’s a new weapon skin for the katana, helping remove those heads in style.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Created in collaboration with Skybound Entertainment, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers fans of the franchise a chance to enjoy an original storyline set in New Orleans where the danger comes from the living as well as the undead. Players have to scavenge buildings for food and crafting materials, navigate walker filled streets and uncover what secrets the locals seem to be hiding.

When reviewing The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners VRFocus said: “From the very beginning, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers a satisfying zombie experience that’s hard to match. Titles like Arizona Sunshine easily fill that need for straight-up arcade action, for when you want a living dead apocalypse with a bit more depth then The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is your new go-to videogame.”

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is PlayStation VR’s Top May Download & Players’ Choice Winner

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

After a successful PC launch in January, Skydance Interactive brought zombie survival videogame The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners to PlayStation VR last month. And just like its PC cousin, the experience was very well received by players.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

The PlayStation Blog revealed this week that The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners was the most downloaded PlayStation VR title in May, across both European and US territories. It manages to supplant the usual number one holder Beat Saber, the rhythm-action videogame dropping to second and third respectively.

So it’s no surprise that alongside the top download spot, the monthly Players’ Choice winner was also The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. Beating out shark sim Maneater (2nd) and Minecraft Dungeons (3rd) which is quite the achievement.

For those that love zombie videogames, VRFocus found that The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is one of the best, saying in its review: “From the very beginning, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers a satisfying zombie experience that’s hard to match. Titles like Arizona Sunshine easily fill that need for straight-up arcade action, for when you want a living dead apocalypse with a bit more depth then The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is your new go-to videogame.”

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Created in collaboration with Skybound Entertainment (founded by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman), The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners provides players with its own original storyline set in New Orleans. Players have to scavenge for food and crafting materials, navigate walker filled streets and find out what secrets the locals are hiding.

The only other new PlayStation VR title to make the download list for May was brutal gladiator experience GORN, managing 2nd place in the US and 3rd place in Europe. Pixel Ripped 1995, Down the Rabbit Hole and Final Assault (EU) all hit PlayStation Store but didn’t make the top ten.

It’s an exciting day for PlayStation fans because a little later Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) will hold its PlayStation 5 ‘Future of Gaming’ broadcast showcasing what videogames are coming to the console. Hopes are that the company will finally reveal what the hardware will look like. When those details are revealed, VRFocus will let you know.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners For PlayStation VR is Available Worldwide Today

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Upset that Marvel’s Iron Man VR was indefinitely delayed last month with Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) blaming the coronavirus? Well don’t be because Skydance Interactive and Skybound Entertainment have just announced the launch for the excellent The Walking Dead: Saint & Sinners on PlayStation VR and it’s happening right now.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Originally released for PC VR headsets in January, The Walking Dead: Saint & Sinners takes place in the flooded remains of New Orleans. Just like the rest of the franchise, this is survival horror but in virtual reality (VR), where you have to scavenge for food and crafting materials, navigate walker filled streets and deal with combat situations that involve both zombie and human alike.

Offering an original storyline where you play a drifter new to the city, your task is not only to survive but also uncover what secrets the locals are keeping. You’ll be able to craft useful weapons, tools and other items looted from properties at a hub location before heading back out to continue your journey. The Walking Dead: Saint & Sinners is a visceral experience built around realistic physics, so guns have to be manually reloaded but the noise they make attracts walkers. So bladed weapons like knives and axes offer a silent kill option. However, these require stamina, especially two-handed weapons like the axe which can get stuck in skulls if you’re not careful.

The PlayStation VR version will include the same content as its PC brethren, whilst offering immersive controls schemes using the PlayStation Move controllers. The Walking Dead: Saint & Sinners will also be available in three editions, a standard version, the Tourist Edition (Digital Deluxe Edition) or the Tower Edition (Collector’s Edition) for those that want extra digital and real swag to play with.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

VRFocus has covered The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners in-depth, saying in its review: “From the very beginning, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers a satisfying zombie experience that’s hard to match. Titles like Arizona Sunshine  easily fill that need for straight-up arcade action, for when you want a living dead apocalypse with a bit more depth then The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is your new go-to videogame.”

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is available from $39.99 USD/£28.99 GBP via the PlayStation Store. The videogame previously launched for Oculus Rift/ Rift S, Oculus Quest (via Link cable only), HTC Vive and Valve Index.
