Something for the Weekend: Bundles And Deals In The Steam Store

Some days are really sent to test you. Nothing goes right, and instead everything goes very wrong indeed. It’s raining out, or cold, or both. Something expensive breaks. Someone reliable is not. You’ve no time for any of the things you need to do. Your post is nothing but bills and your next-door neighbour is still playing that same song over and over they started playing several hours back. What’s the worst is when these days happen to be on the weekend, supposedly days of rest.

Sometimes you just need to take a load off, and get away from it all. In this way virtual reality (VR) is especially valuable. After all, if the world’s full of nonsense why not go to a new one? Thankfully there’s always a deal here on the various stores where you can pick up a videogame on the cheap and work out some of the stress from a testing world.

Today’s selection of titles picked by VRFocus come from Steam, so check out the below and maybe save some cash on something good.

CROTEAM VR Bundle

Compatibility: HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

Remember what I said about combating stress above? Here’s a bumper pack of titles to cause havoc in.

It’s a five pack consisting of Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, Serious Sam VR: The First EncounterSerious Sam VR: The Second Encounter, the aforementioned Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE and also The Talos Principle.

Players are located in the centre of a dome, on a slightly raised platform. This dome is made up of hexagonal panels which illuminate with different options depending on the game mode or difficulty.” – Read Peter Graham’s preview for VRFocus.

Croteam Discuss Bringing The Talos Principle To VR

Behind closed doors at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) VRFocus managed to get an interview with Damjan Mravunac the CMO of Croteam. The Croatian based studio are best known for Serious Sam VR: The First Encounter, Serious Sam: The Last Hope and Serious Sam VR: The Second Encounter. VRFocus writer Peter Graham wrote a rave review about the videogame here

The Talos Principle was a huge hit back in 2014. This philosophical puzzler has a narrative that is supposed to make you question life and the universe. It also has various puzzles, and the Croteam team received various requests to make the Talos Principle a virtual reality (VR) game. Based around Talos, a giant bronze man in Greek mythology – apparently this is a must play game in VR. The feedback from the few who managed to play it has been incredible according to Damjan, no release date has been given yet and the CroTeam want to expand to support more headsets in the future.

Serious Sam VR: The Second Encounter Blasts onto HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

If you’re a fan of the Serious Sam franchise then you’ll be glad to hear Croteam and Devolver Digital have released a bumper amount of content for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The developers have launched Serious Sam VR: The Second Encounter as well as bringing Serious Sam VR: The First Encounter out of Steam Early Access.

Serious Sam VR: The Second Encounter brings the same frantic gameplay as its predecessors, arming players to the teeth with an array of outrageous weaponry to take on the armies of god-like being Mental. To aid in the fight Sam has some new toys: Sniper Rifle, Flamethrower and Chainsaw, which can all be dual wielded for ultimate stopping power. Players can utilise their favourite combinations, or head into battle with the same guns if they prefer.

Alongside the single-player carnage, there’s now 16-player versus multiplayer modes, some are unique whilst others are based on campaign levels. On top of that there’s classic co-op action in a 12-level campaign mode featuring multiple difficulty settings, increased enemy strength, friendly fire/infinite ammo options.

The multiplayer modes include: Beast Hunt and Team Beast Hunt; Survival and Team Survival; Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch; My Burden; Last Man Standing and Last Team Standing; Capture the Flag and Instant Kill.

So what does it cost for all this? There’s a variety of options to choose from. Serious Sam VR: The Second Encounter currently has a limited time discount available of 25 percent, dropping the cost from £29.99 GBP to £22.49. Serious Sam: The Second Encounter Arrives on Vive and Rift

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter Arrives on Vive and Rift

Croteam is making good on its promise to virtualize the Serious Sam franchise; the second game in the series is now available on Rift and Vive.

The studio behind the bombastic shooter franchise today launched Serious Sam VR: The Second Encounter, a VR port of the 2002 original, featuring full support for position-tracked controls. The original game’s single and multiplayer modes — which support up to 15 players — have been brought into VR for the first time and even allow you to play with friends on traditional PC monitors. You can check out a launch trailer below.

If you didn’t know, Serious Sam is all about using big guns to blow up even bigger monsters. Set in massive environments, you’re drowned in ammunition and let loose to tear enemies apart with bullets and rockets. Players can either utilize a teleportation system or, if they’re up for the challenges, run around maps with trackpad/analogue stick movement. We’d say it’s an old-school shooter but, it technically already is from the old-school.

The game would normally cost $39.99, but there’s a launch week discount bringing it down to $29.99. You can also get it bundled with the other Serious Sam VR games at a discounted price of $82.47 instead of $119.97.

Last week, the Early Access edition of Serious Sam VR: The First Encounter left pre-release. Croteam’s first VR-only game, Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, remains in Early Access but continues to get regular content drops. As you’d probably guessed, the studio plans to bring Serious Sam 3 to VR too, and will also be releasing a VR port of its puzzle game, The Talos Principle.
