First-person Horror Scorn Achieves Funding for VR Level
Last month VRFocus reported on Ebb Software launching a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for its first-person horror title Scorn Part 1 of 2 : Dasein. Whilst not made specifically for virtual reality, the studio did plan on creating a VR level if that particular stretch goal was reached. And sure enough its has.
The VR stretch goal was for €175,000 EUR which was easily reached – the current total is just over €186,000 – with the developer explaining in an update: “The VR level will be a part of the main game, but it won’t be required to play it to progress through the game.”
Ebb Software hasn’t confirmed which headsets Scorn will be compatible with, but as the main title is PC-based and available through Steam, either Oculus Rift, HTC Vive or both will be likely.
With a dark visual aesthetic with a bio-mechanical theme – very reminiscent of artist H R Geiger who’s most well known for Alien – Scorn Part 1 of 2 : Dasein is a first-person horror in which players are thrown into this nightmarish world, with labyrinthine structures, gruesome creatures that can be curious, afraid, hostile or neutral, and contextual puzzles that merge organic and inorganic material.
The same goes for the weapons, which reflect standard guns like pistols or shotguns, just this time they have veins, blood and a tendency to wriggle.
The Kickstarter ends tomorrow if you still fancy backing the project – which the studio has been working on for two years – with the base pledge of €17 giving backers access to a full copy of the title when it launches next year.

‘Scorn – Part 1 of 2: Dasein’ Kickstarter Reaches VR Stretch Goal with Few Hours Remaining

Scorn – Part 1 of 2: Dasein, the crowdfunded first-person horror game, just passed the €175,000 mark with only a few remaining hours in its Kickstarter campaign, meaning the developers will be including “an immersive VR level for the ultimate experience of the world and atmosphere of Scorn.”
While we were personally hoping for more than just a VR level in what’s shaping up to be a nightmarish, Alien-inspired first-person horror adventure – with the way things are looking from the trailer, we may not need one (for the sake of dry underwear everywhere).
Currently in the works by Serbian studio Ebb Software, the full game aims to throw you into a hellish world, wandering isolated and lost as you explore different interconnected, nonlinear.
According to Ebb, “throughout the game, you will open up new areas, acquire different skill sets, weapons, and various items, while trying to comprehend the sights presented to you. We want to create a broad gameplay experience that is more than a simple blend of all the game mechanics. You will constantly be required to re-think and adapt your actions.”
Originally asking €150,000, the project reached its initial funding goal late last month. Digital copies of the game, along with a host of goodies, are set to ship sometime in October. The first funding tier, including the game, is still available for €17, but it isn’t certain if the VR level will be delivered alongside the game, or added at a later date.
Since this is a PC title, it’s safe to assume the VR level will be intended for SteamVR headsets, including Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows “Mixed Reality” VR headsets. Any way you slice it, we’re just hoping we can get our hands on one of those ridiculous bone guns.

Scorn Kickstarter Stretch Goal Includes VR
A project to create a first-person horror adventure videogame titled Scorn first began two years ago. The developers are now seeking funding to complete the project through Kickstarter. If funding meets its first stretch goal, the team plan to create a virtual reality (VR) level for the title.
Using as aesthetic style strongly reminiscent of the art of H R Geiger, whom most people will recognise as influencing the style of the Aliens franchise, Scorn throws the player in to an otherwordly nightmare where they will need to solve puzzles, acquire new skills and get to grips with new weapons to understand what is going on around you.
The development team at Ebb Software are seeking to reach €150,000 (EUR) in funding. The first stretch goal of €175,000 will allow for the creation of the VR level. Higher stretch goals include adding new enemy types, locations and content.
Funding tiers range from €17 to get a digital copy of Scorn, along with a digital wallpaper pack, the backers name in the credits and a demo, to the Early bird €20 tier which gives access to a digital world map and prologue early access in addition to the lower tier rewards. The highest tier is €250, which gets the backer a figurine, branded USB flash drive, vinyl soundtrack, printed art book, canvas print and t-shirt as well as everything in the lower tiers.
The Kickstarter campaign will end on 10th October, 2017. If funding is successful, the team hope to begin shipping the title some time in 2018.
