The Party Comes to Oculus Rift With Schlocks

Oculus Rift users who are looking for a title to play along with friends can now rejoice as Fancy Bear Games’ fast-paced collection of virtual reality (VR) micro-games, Schlocks, is coming to the Oculus Rift.

Previously available for the HTC Vive, the development team are bringing Oculus Rift compatibility to the Early Access title as part of the latest patch. Schlocks is comprised of a series of 10-second long party games in the same mould as things like the Warioware series. The framing device is of a department store with various ‘departments’ such as Farm, Kitchen, Ocean and Carnival.

Schlocks supports 4-player local competitive mode and the current version in Early Access has over 50 mini games, with the development team hopping to up the number to over 100 by the time the title leaves Early Access for a full release. Games can be many things from sweeping floors, to chopping tomatoes, hitting beehives or washing dishes, with only 10 seconds to figure out the controls and complete the task.

A new department was recently added on 10th May titled ‘Fantasy’ which contains several new mini-games such as Brew the potion, Cast the Spell and Kiss the Frog.

The title is available on Steam Early Access for £10.99 (GBP) for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Touch. The development team at Fancy Bear Games say that Schlocks will be in Early Access for approximately three months and plan to be taking feedback from the Steam community on improvements and new mini-games to introduce. Further information can be found on the Steam Early Access page.

Schlocks Brings the Party Vibe to HTC Vive

Playing videogames with friends has been a part of the experience for gamers since the earliest days of arcades. It has long been a criticism of virtual reality (VR) that it isolates players and removes the social aspect. Fancy Bear Games are aiming to change that by bringing a party game selection to Steam Early Access.

Following the pattern set by fast-paced party games such as the Warioware series, Schlocks pits players against one another with a series of micro-games. Each segment is only ten seconds long, and comes at the player suddenly with minimal instructions as to what to do. To beat the other players, it is critical to rapidly work out what is needed and accomplish it flawlessly, which of course, will not be easy.

Schlocks is available with 4-player local competitive mode, and the Early Access version comes with over 50 micro-games. The development team at Fancy Bear Games hope to up that to over 100 micro-games by the time of final release, and the team are accepting suggestions for what micro-games can be added. Currently, players will need to hit beehives, make sandwiches or wash dishes, along with a host of other tasks.

Fancy Bear Games CEO Patrick Ryan said in a statement: “The future of virtual reality is social! With Schlocks, we want everybody to enjoy tons of micro-games with family and friends, without over-complicated controls and mechanics. There are so many great games for VR, but we want to make Schlocks so simple and fun that everyone can join the party.”

The title is currently available through Steam Early access and is compatible with the HTC Vive. It is priced at $14.99 USD. The developers expect it will take roughly three months before the title is ready for a full release. Further information can be found on the Steam store page.

HTC Vive Gets Ready to Party with Schlocks

Schlocks by Fancy Bear Games is bringing over 100 micro party games on to the HTC Vive. The developers are hoping to bring a truly social experience to the platform.

Virtual reality (VR) has sometimes been criticised as an intrinsicly isolated, solitary experience. Developer Fancy Bear Games hopes to change that with Schlocks, a selection of fast-paced party games that encourage social play. In the tradition of rapid-fire party games like the Warioware series, each game is only ten seconds long, and each requires the player to be on their toes as they are asked to perform tasks like hit beehives, hoist the sail of a ship or make a sandwich, all within the strict time limit and with minimal instructions.

The developer hopes to bring Schlocks to Steam Early Access in Q2 of 2017, where it will be steadily revised and upgraded until it is ready for full release, which Fancy Bear Games believes could be as soon as a month after the Early Access launch. The price point upon Early Access is expected to be $15 USD.

CEO of Fancy Bear Games, Patrick Ryan says: “We believe that playing VR games doesn’t need to be a solitary experience. By making a VR party game, our goal is to expose players to tons of ways they can move their body in VR, while also giving friends a good laugh at their expense.”
