Watch the Merc with a Mouth Take Down Bad Guys

As we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks, news about upcoming Oculus Rift exclusive Marvel Powers United VR is coming in thick and fast now as Marvel, Oculus and developers Sanzaru Games whip up hype in advance of the release. Just to get you even more excited, VRFocus presents some gameplay footage of that fourth-wall breaking murderous goofball, Deadpool.

Deadpool is one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Comics universe, and his star is now higher than ever thanks to two movies under his belt, starring Ryan Reynolds.

Deadpool Marvel Powers United VR

Nina Salomons of VRFocus got a chance to play Marvel Powers United VR using Deadpool, and show off his moves, where he uses his iconic twin katanas, along with pistols and shurikens for long-range attacks. Of course, what would the Merc with the Mouth be without a constant stream of quips and remarks, which are fully in evidence here.

The action for this gameplay footage takes place in a sandy-floored arena-like structure where villainous brutes charge forward to attack you, backed up by flying drone that hover around pelting you with tracer fire. As a result, players need to strike a balance between avoiding incoming fire, taking out the drones with ranged attacks, then switching to melee to disable the well-armoured brutes.

Other recent announcements include the addition of Madame Hydra and AIM’s Scientist Supreme to the villain side, along with two other Guardians of the Galaxy to join the hero team, with Star Lord and Gamora added to the roster. Prior to that, some playable locations were announced which featured iconic Marvel universe locations, such as the throne room of Asgard, the frost giants home of Jotunheim and the mysterious Knowhere Market.

The gameplay footage is available to view below. For further news on Marvel Powers United VR and other upcoming VR projects, keep checking back with VRFocus.

Marvel Powers United Welcomes Gamora and Star Lord to the Roster

As the release date for Oculus Rift exclusive Marvel Powers United VR draws ever closer, the team at Sanzaru Games are determined to get the hype up to feverish levels with a veritable torrent of new announcements concerning the title. Now another two heroes have been added in, giving players more options to choose from.

Today’s reveal lets two more of the Guardians of the Galaxy join in the action, with Star Lord and Gamora joining the team.

Star Lord is also known as Peter Quill, a galactic adventurer who was snatched from his home on Earth at a young age to be raised amongst the piratical Ravagers. Armed with his high-tech elemental blaster and a mix tap of classic music from the 70s and early 80s, Star Lord acts as the leader of his rag tag team.

Gamora is the (reluctantly) adopted daughter of the mad titan Thanos. Her brutal upbringing taught her how to be one of the most dangerous warriors in the galaxy, but she grew tired and disgusted by the cruelty she was forced to inflict on others and broke away from Thanos to put her skills to use alongside the other Guardians of the Galaxy. Wielding her deadly blade known as Godslayer or firing away with a blaster, she is a dangerous opponent.

Other recent announcements have covered new villains, which revealed that players would get to battle against Magento and Dormammu, and also some new locations, like Asgard’s majestic throne room, the cold reaches of Jotunheim and the Knowhere Market.

Prior to that Hawkeye and Black Widow joined in on the heroes side, and Wakanda made an appearance as a playable location.

Marvel Powers United VR is due to be released on 26th July, 2018, priced at $39.99 (USD)/ £29.99 (GBP). The title is already available for pre-order via the Oculus Store. For further news on Marvel Powers United VR and other upcoming VR projects, keep checking back with VRFocus.

Three new Locations Confirmed for Marvel Powers United VR

There’s been a lot of Marvel Powers United VR news recently, as Sanzaru Games has slowly drip fed new information about the characters you’ll be able to play, villains that you’ll need to fight and the locations this all takes place in. Yesterday, two new villains were revealed, Magneto and Dormammu, so today it’s time for some more iconic environments to make themselves known.

Marvel Powers United VR

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) should already know the locations by the images, with three being revealed; Asgard’s Throne Room, Jotunheim and the Knowhere Market.

Asgard’s Throne Room is probably the most well known and iconic of the three, having appeared in all the Thor films. Looking every bit as grand and majestic as its cinematic cousin, with a towering statue, wall to wall gold and plenty of subdued dramatic lighting.

Then you’ve got the polar opposite with ice world Jotunheim. Ruled by the ice giants, Jotunheim is no less grand or impressive with massive ice warrior statues, foreboding hallways, and amazing landscapes strewn with blues and greens.

Lastly there’s the weird and wonderful Knowhere Market. Located inside the head of a decapitated celestial being – it’s never been revealed how this actual happened – which just so happens to be floating along at the end of the universe, it serves as an intergalactic port of call for travelers of all species.

Marvel Powers United VR

Other than the environments themselves, Sanzaru Games hasn’t revealed a gameplay elements specific to each one, and where certain villains will be found.

Eight villainous bosses will make their way into the videogame, so alongside Magneto and Dormammu there’s going to be Loki, Venom and Ultron. While on the playable character side there will be 18 in total, with ten heroes already named: Hawkeye, Black Widow, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, The Hulk, Rocket Racoon, Deadpool, Black Bolt, Crystal and Thor.

Marvel Powers United VR is expected to be released on 26th July, 2018, with a price point of $39.99 (USD). Check out VRFocus’ early preview of Marvel Powers United VR which said: “Marvel Powers United VR is part-FPS, part-MOBA, and with that looks to be an enjoyable experience for both VR newcomers and Marvel fans alike, but those familiar with the VR medium will have to wait and see if Sanzaru Games end up with just another wave shooter.” For further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

Magneto and Dormammu are Joining Marvel Powers United VR’s Villain Roster

Last week Sanzaru Games released a series of updates for its upcoming co-op action title Marvel Powers United VR, with new villains, locations and heroes announced. If you thought there couldn’t be any more then you’d be wrong, two more villains have now been named; Magneto and Dormammu.

Marvel Powers United VR - Magneto Portrait

From the world of the X-Men, Magneto often seems to flit between being a villain and doing the right thing when dealing with the morally incorruptible Professor X. Known as “The Master of Magnetism”, Magneto commands forces of magnetism and metal, manipulating them to his will. As young Max Eisenhardt, he experienced unspeakable atrocities in the concentration camps of World War II and witnessed first-hand the violence and darkness humans could unleash on those they perceived as different.

Dormammu on the other hand is a different beast entirely. Ruling the Dark Dimension, Dormammu is an entity composed of pure mystical energy. Always seeking to increase his power, he looks for worlds to conquer and influence. Dormammu targeted Earth and in doing so was confronted and defeated by Doctor Strange, Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme and defender against supernatural threats. Driven to mad fury by this defeat, Dormammu has sworn revenge against Strange and his allies, determined to finish his claim on Earth and what is rightfully his to conquer.

Dormammu

Just like the other villains including Venom and Ultron, Magneto and Dormammu are expected to be bosses in the Oculus Rift exclusive videogame.

To fight them players will have ten heroes to choose from: Hawkeye, Black Widow, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, The Hulk, Rocket Racoon, Deadpool, Black Bolt, Crystal and Thor. Playing as your favourite character you’ll need to use their special abilities and explosive combos to build up your hero’s combo meter to power up an epic super ability.

Sanzaru Games will be launching Marvel Powers United VR on 26th July, 2018, priced at $39.99 USD/£29.99 GBP. The title is already available for pre-order on Oculus Rift via the Oculus Store. Check out VRFocus’ preview of Marvel Powers United VR for some early hands-on thoughts, and as further details are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.

The Avengers’ Black Widow & Hawkeye Coming to ‘Marvel Powers United VR’

Oculus has been doing piecemeal reveals for the past few days on their blog, charging up the Marvel VR hypetrain as it’s just about to leave the station. To boot, the company posted a new video featuring the characters, which gives you a quick idea of what abilities each hero has.

Wakanda Makes an Appearance as a Playable Location in Marvel Powers United VR

Yesterday Sanzaru Games announced two new characters for its upcoming virtual reality (VR) title Marvel Powers United VR, villains Venom and Ultron. Today, there’s even more news about the videogame, with two new locations being added; Wakanda and Sakaar Arena.

Wakanda

Set in the technologically advanced civilisation of Wakanda – where Black Panther was set if you’ve not seen it – this is an impressive looking locale, with towering statues, gleaming buildings, luscious vegetation and striking scientific laboratories to play through.

The second location Sakaar Arena will be known to most from Thor: Ragnarok, when the Thunder God crash lands on the garbage planet of Sakaar. Ruled by a being called the Grandmaster, Thor finds himself in the arena fighting Hulk. It’s unclear if Sakaar Arena will be part of the main story that players will have to fight through or be used in a different gameplay mode to offer further fighting options.

So far there have been several character reveals, with playable heroes and heroines like Captain Marvel, The Hulk, Rocket Racoon, Deadpool, Black Bolt, Crystal, Thor, and Black Panther all confirmed.
