‘Sairento VR’ Update Brings Remastered Graphics & Smoother Gameplay, New Levels Incoming

Sairento VR (2018), the cyber-ninja VR combat game, just received an update that includes remastered graphics and better performance thanks to a game engine upgrade.

Sairento VR launched out of Early Access for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in February 2018. The game includes a single-player campaign mode that lets you hone your slow-motion, high-flying ninja moves as you shoot pistols and physically slice your katanas at the game’s ‘cyber ninja’ enemies; the game also includes a single-player arcade mode, multiplayer co-op, and PvP mode.

Thanks to a recent update, the following levels have been visually remastered: Shrine, Lab, Warehouse, Cemetary, Hall, Corporation, Train, Arena, and Observatory. The developers, Mixed Realms, are still working on three remaining levels including Street, Alley and District, and will release patches for these in a future update.

An upgrade to the game’s Unity game engine, Mixed Realms says in a Steam news post, improves textures and lighting, offers better performance and smoother gameplay, and fixes a number of bugs. You can find the full change log in the link posted above.

Mixed Realms also maintains that Sairento VR is slated to receive a new level at the end of September, and another one at the end of October.

Check out the video below for a look at some of the game’s latest improvements.

Mixed Realms is bringing its action-packed cyber ninja simulator Sairento VR (2018) to Rift users for free this weekend, which includes a campaign mode and online multiplayer for up to four other players in PvP and PvE modes.

Now out of early access, Sairento VR was recently revealed to be in the top 24 best-selling VR games on Steam of 2018 (so far). There’s reason: high-flying ninja power fantasies galore.

With the ability to fly high into the air, executing quadruple jumps, wall runs, power slides, and back flips, you rip through enemies with katanas, guns, bows, throwing glaives, shurikens, and kunais—everything the aspiring ninja may need with its nearly 20 weapons at your disposal.

The free weekend for Rift users is already in effect, and continues through Monday, July 9th at 3:00 AM ET (local time here). Check out the game here.

Oculus has been holding free weekends for select multiplayer games for some time now, and it’s a great way to pack the servers with fresh players so you can see a multiplayer game at its best. These tend to coincide with sales to entice permanent ownership of the game; Sairento VR is now 20% off, knocked down from $30 to $24 for the duration of the free weekend.

‘Sairento Reborn’ Aims to Springboard off ‘Sairento’ Success, Support VR & PC

Indie VR developer Mixed Realms, creators of badass VR ninja simulator, Sairento, announced this week plans for their next chapter, coming in the form of Sairento Reborn. Described as “bigger and better,” Sairento Reborn hopes to open up the title, allowing cooperative hack & slash fun for both VR and PC players.

Speaking this week at the HTC’s Vive X demo day in San Francisco, Singapore-based indie studio Mixed Realms said that their first title, Sairento, has turned a significant profit, to the tune of a claimed “3,000% ROI” on an initial development fund of $30,000 (which would work out to $900,000); the developers tell us they’ve sold about 40,000 units so far.

Sairento, which plays like a mashup between Raw Data (2017) and Superhot VR (2017), offers players the chance to become an agile super-ninja, wielding swords, guns, bows, and more. The game has been released across all major VR platforms (Steam, Oculus, and Viveport), and holds respectable ratings across the board. The title began its life in Early Access on Steam in late 2016 and claimed its full launch in February, 2018.

Aiming to springboard off of their initial success, developer Mixed Realms said during the Vive X event that they’re planning to raise $3 million for the production of the next chapter, Sairento Reborn. From the description offered by the developers, the new title sounds more like a reboot, with a much larger scope than the original, and one major goal being to open the door to PC players as well as VR players, allowing both to play with and against each other.

The plan, the developers say, is to offer the same kind of first-person action as the original, for VR players, while PC players will play the game in third person. The studio plans to balance each side fairly, but uniquely. Mixed Realms says they plan to sell Sairento Reborn at a lower price than the original, but will monetize further with subscription and microtransaction options—they pointed to Overwatch (2016) as a game successfully monetizing with this model.

As one reason why they want to open the game to PC players, Mixed Realms pointed toward VRChat’s viral outbreak—no doubt owed to its accessibility by both VR and PC players—which has secured the game a spot among Steam’s top 100 games by concurrent player count.

During the event Mixed Realms also affirmed plans plan to bring the original Sairento to PSVR, and expect it to hit the platform in 2018.

Update (3/30/18): An earlier version of this article mistakenly transposed some digits and stated that Sairento had earned $9,000,000 in revenue instead of $900,000; this has been fixed accordingly.

‘Sairento VR’ Exits Steam Early Access Today, Launches on Oculus Home

Sairento VR (2018), a VR ninja action game from indie developer Mixed Realms, ended its year-long stint in Steam Early Access today. The game, which features both single player and multiplayer modes, also launched on Oculus Home today.

Sairento VR launches out of Early Access with a new single player campaign mode that lets you hone your slow-motion, high-flying ninja moves as you shoot pistols and physically hack away with your katanas at the game’s ‘cyber ninja’ enemies. The game also includes a single player arcade mode, multiplayer co-op and PvP mode.

One of the most attractive bits about the game is its unique locomotion system, which is best described as a ‘point-and-click’ system that lets you quickly bound through the air with the ability to triple jump and wall-run your way to almost any target, making for fast-paced action across a relatively large map. From what we’ve played in Early Access, it proves to be a really interesting mash-up of Raw Data (2017) and Superhot VR (2017).

Releasing the news on the game’s Steam page, the developers say that despite exiting Early Access, there’s still a few things to be done.

As many of you have rightly pointed out, an exit from EA is just a technicality. It does not mean that we will be washing our hands off it from now on. While it does mean that we believe all the elements required to make a full game are in place, we still want to continue ironing out the remaining imperfections. We also want to add more content periodically to reward our fans’ loyalty and support for a while more.

Our only regret is that we cannot make the Campaign mode as robust as we would like it to be due to a lack of resources, although we really did try our very best.

Yet, despite its flaws, we think that Sairento is a game that we can all be proud of. And by we, we mean you and us. Sairento VR is a result of the cumulative efforts of both your constructive feedback and our hard work. Without you, Sairento won’t exist in its current form and we want to salute you for that. As such, we have dedicated the About page in the game to you. This page is about you and not about us. Please check it out.

Sairento VR is currently on sale for $25.50 on Humble Store, a 15% reduction from its normal $30 price tag. You can also purchase direct from Steam (Vive & Rift) or from Oculus Home (Rift).

Review: Sairento VR

It’s usually the case that prior to Christmas all the major videogames come out to see players through the festive period, like Fallout 4 VR, with January tending to see a lull in big name releases. This can be a good time for smaller indie developers to launch their projects, especially if they’ve been garnering support and building a community through initiatives like Steam Early Access. This is what Mixed Realms has gone for with its first-person shooter (FPS) Sairento VR. Obviously that’s no guarantee of success, to help that along the studio needs to have made a solid experience and Sairento VR does just that.

While Sairento VR maybe an FPS, at its core this is a ninja videogame for HTC Vive (reviewed) and Oculus Rift. If you enjoyed titles like Shinobi or Ninja Gaiden but wanted the experience to be even more immersive then Sairento VR is going to be right up your street.

Sairento VR new screenshot 1

All ninjas need to be athletic, fast and highly manoeuvrable, able to seemingly defy gravity with their wall runs whilst taking out enemies with a well-placed shuriken. Yet, to create a virtual reality (VR) experience where you can do this and more may seem complete folly, inducing nausea in players almost instantly. Well whatever magical powers Mixed Realms has used has worked, because not only can you wall run, double jump, and hop around a level like human sized bouncy ball, you’ll enjoy every minute being a master assassin.

Sairento VR employs teleportation as its main source of movement and through it you unlock a bevy of additional mechanics to utilise as the situation is needed. So a short teleport will result in a dash – great for slicing straight into enemies – whilst moving a greater distance will make you leap where you can then add in a secondary jump to a higher ledge or a quick wall run. Time everything right along with liberal use of the slow-motion button and cutting down groups of enemies becomes child’s play with the assortment of weaponry you have to hand.

Talking of the armory. Going into battle you’ll find yourself equipped with dual pistols, two Katana blades as well as a sub-machine gun just in case. All of which is easy to access from either your hips, shoulders or back respectively. As you progress through the videogame you’ll unlock more guns and upgrades to change your strategy and preferences, with shotguns, rifles and more all becoming available.

Sairento VR new screenshot 2

And that’s one thing Sairento VR has in droves, options, options, and more options. The main settings menu lets you alter all sorts, from how the guns reload to whether one of the control pads gives you free locomotion. Then there are the Skills, upgrades that enhance your character with more health, greater damage and additional jumps and so on. There’s such a wealth of extras that it can be almost dizzying, yet it’s certainly a welcome sight to see.

Then there are the gameplay modes, with a standard story-driven campaign, individual missions where you can select what type of change awaits and a multiplayer to add some friends into the mix. All of which should provide hours and hours worth of gameplay.

It’s not all perfect however. While there’s plenty of variety in some parts of the title it’s lacking in others. Enemies do tend to come in a few core flavours which are then repeated over and over again, making it easy to learn their patterns and moves. The AI does suffer from that age old videogame mechanic of seeing you and rushing straight forward, so with the movement options available getting out the way isn’t too difficult at all. The same can be said for the environments as well, endless futuristic cityscapes that at points barely differ from one another.

In the end though it all comes down to how much time and enjoyment you’ll get out of Sairento VR and rest assured it’ll be plenty. If Mixed Realms hadn’t managed to nail down the movement system then Sairento VR could’ve been just another FPS with a myriad of options. Instead, Sairento VR is one of the best free flowing combat titles available for VR headsets, showcasing how far development of VR locomotion has come.

You’ll Have to Wait to Become a Ninja Warrior as Sairento VR Launch Delayed

There’s been plenty of forward looking tech announced this week thanks to CES 2018 but little in the way of videogames. One title Oculus Rift and HTC Vive users might have been looking forward to next week was first-person shooter (FPS) Sairento VR by Mixed Realms. Today however, the studio has confirmed a launch delay, pushing the release into next month.

Sairento VR new screenshot 3

In a statement on Sairento VR’s Steam page the developer said: “We are very very very very sorry but we have decided to push back the exit from Early Access until 6 February 2018 and with it the Campaign Mode for the following reasons.

– We want to improve the game even more
– There are still some bugs left to catch
– We want to make the AI smarter

“In short, we could bring the game out of EA with the faults we are seeing, or we could give it a little bit more time and give you a much better game.

“This also impacts our launch on Oculus Home which may come a little later as we need to spend more time testing the game on the platform.”

It’s quite common for developers to push back a release to fine tune things – you wouldn’t want to purchase a broken videogame now would you? – but it does mean gamers will have to wait a few more weeks.

Sairento VR new screenshot 2

There is a golden nugget of news however. On 19th January – the original launch date – Mixed Realms will be pushing out a new update for early access players which will include the following:

– Tons of bug fixes
– More level variety
– More recording options
– More improvements to stealth AI
– Mirroring a third person view to the screen
– Better calibration process
– Improved Touch control integration and support (you can now toggle sticky grip and grip to hold)

Sairento VR will now leave Steam Early Access on 6th February 2018. Check out VRFocuspreview to see what the videogame is all about. For any further updates keep reading VRFocus.
