Bowshooter ‘Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale’ to Launch on PSVR Soon

Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale (2018), a story-driven bowshooter from Moscow-based indie studio Odd Meter, demonstrated some relatively high polish when it was first released on PC VR headsets last year. Now, the studio says its making its way to PSVR on December 17th.

We were mightily impressed with this medieval bowshooter when it was first released on Steam back in May 2018, giving it a resounding [8.7/10] in our review.

Although it didn’t generate much press following its relatively quiet launch on PC, Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale ultimately shows a fair measure of expertise in visual polish and storytelling. It also boasts a more lifelike quality not often seen in lower budget productions, which is thanks to some pretty impressive motion capture.

Not only that, it’s also an engaging, but pretty difficult game, as you use multiple arrow types to grind down seemingly endless hordes of baddies on your way through its campaign.

While some may recoil in horror at the mere mention of teleportation, Sacralith’s node teleportation scheme is actually molded around the game in such a way that it adds to its difficulty; you’re forced to you use different vantage points to shoot down foes, which at times intentionally limits how close you can get to the steady stream of enemies.

We’re hoping Odd Meter was able to squeeze enough of that near ‘AAA’ goodness onto the more demure PS4 platform, and was also able to contend with PS Move’s tracking limitations, which sometimes makes VR archery a challenge due to sensor occlusion.

Sarcralith: The Archer’s Tale Is Coming To PSVR Soon

A likable bit of VR archery madness is on its way to PSVR in the form of Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale.

Developer Odd Meter recently confirmed to us that the console version of the game is coming in early December. Sacralith first launched on PC VR headsets back in 2018. The game is a bow and arrow shooter in which you take down legions of guards swarming in from every angle. Select between different arrows and take them down as fast as possible; as simple as that. Check out the trailer below.

We know, it sounds very 2018 in terms of VR game design and it is. But Sacralith also offers a story-driven campaign. All of that was enough to earn it a ‘Very Good’ average rating on Steam and a 4+ star rating on the Oculus Store. We haven’t reviewed it ourselves, though, so we can’t comment on the final comment.

That said, it is a VR archery game so you should know what to expect; nock an arrow, pull back, aim and release. It’s always felt great in VR and we probably won’t stop doing it anytime soon.

PSVR fans have a few other games to look forward to this December. We know, for example, that the PSVR port of Fujii will be with us soon. Stardust Odyssey and Hatsune Miku VR are also launching on the headset this week. Not a bad way to see out the year, all things considered.

Will you be picking up Sacralith on PSVR? Let us know in the comments below!

Along Together

“Despite the input system, VRFocus would argue that Along Together is not a point-and-click videogame as Turbo Button suggest. It’s much closer to a platform-puzzle videogame in that the experience is less about objectives and item collection, more concerned with path-finding. This certainly isn’t a negative comment however, as Along Together is a welcome addition to the Google Daydream’s software catalogue regardless of how you choose to define it. With a pleasing, chunky and colourful art style and a fine assortment of puzzles, Along Together is an easy recommendation for Google Daydream owners.” – Read VRFocus’ Editor Kevin Joyce’s review of Along Together.

Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale Is Set Loose On SteamVR

It has been well established by now that using virtual reality (VR) motion controllers for archery works very well, with a fair few titles using these mechanics. Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale uses this as its basic combat in a world of magic, dragons and monsters.

Developers Odd Meter have created a dark medieval fantasy world where the player takes the role of the titular Archer, who is searching for a powerful magic stone that grands the holder to control dragons.

As the title suggests, the main weapon is the bow. As enemies appear to stop your search for the magic stone, the player will be able to choose a firing spot, then select the ideal view and angle of attack before setting loose a storm of arrows to fell the enemy forces.

The developers say that this is not just a simple shooter, and that a story has been crafted to immerse the player fully in the world of Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale that weaves a picture of a world filled with dark magic and a sinister Inquisition.

The developers also say that the graphics and visual effects have been created to produce great detail and fidelity. The movement and animation were created with the help of motion capture, which is designed to provide more realistic expression and articulation.

Much effort has gone towards creating an experience of bow combat that is as accurate as possible. The development team say the only thing they were unable to reproduce is the correct weight of the bow in your head, and somewhat cheekily suggest adding a weight to the controllers to get the correct effect.

Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale was originally scheduled for release at the end of last year, but was pushed back, presumably to allows time for further polishing. The title will be compatible with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and out now on Steampriced at [insert price here]

SACRALITH: The Archer’s Tale now Confirmed for May Launch

September 2017 saw indie developer Odd Meter announce a virtual reality (VR) title for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive called  SACRALITH: The Archer’s Tale. Initially scheduled for launch in December the release was delayed for an unrevealed reason. Now the team has confirmed a new date, 17th May, 2018.

SACRALITH: The Archers Tale image1

Set in a Medieval world of magic and dragons, in SACRALITH: The Archer’s Tale you play an archer in search of a magical stone capable of taming ancient dragons. Armed with your bow you need to take down hordes of enemies including swordsmen, knights, and ordinary bandits.

You’re not alone in your quest as you’ll have allies fighting in melee combat which will need protection along the way. So  SACRALITH: The Archer’s Tale uses a point to point teleportation system where each level consists of different locations with special firing spots. You’ll be able to move swiftly along these spots, choosing the right one to view battles and the right angle for each attack, protecting your companions and defeating the enemy.

SACRALITH: The Archers Tale image2

Few other details have been released about SACRALITH: The Archer’s Tale, yet as a bow focused first-person shooter (FPS) its got some stiff competition on VR headsets. While there are plenty of VR experiences with a bow mechanic, titles such as Fast Travel Games’ five-star rated Apex Construct and Solfar Studios’ Early Access experience In Death both showcase some of the best bow mechanics around.

As the launch nears and Odd Meter reveal further information, VRFocus will keep you updated on SACRALITH: The Archer’s Tale.

Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale Heads To Steam VR In December

Aiming and firing a bow using motion controllers such as the HTC Vive wands or Oculus Touch controllers is a very satisfying experience. That experience lies at the heart of Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale as part of a wider adventure through a fantasy world.

The players takes the role of the titular Archer in a story that concerns a quest for a powerful magic stone that grants the wielder the power to control and command dragons. You are not the only one in search of this artefact, however, and enemies will throw obstacles in your path, along with hordes of monsters and other foes that need to be cut down before you can progress.

The movement and even facial expressions have been performed by real actors and recorded using motion capture for a more realistic experience. Developer Dmitry Svetlov is hoping to create a detailed world of impressive visual effects and immersive story.

Though full details have not yet been revealed, there is word from the developer of allies that will accompany the player character. It is unknown at this stage if these will be AI-controlled NPCs, perhaps ones that can be directed with tactical commands, or if co-operative multiplayer will be an option.

For combat, certain special ‘firing zones’ are available, which the user can choose from to get the best angle of attack for their storm of arrows. It has not yet been established if this will involve blink teleportation.

Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale is due to launch on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in December 2017. A price point for the title has yet to be set. A video teaser trailer is available to view below.

VRFocus will bring you further information on Sacralith: The Archer’s Tale as it becomes available.
