Resident Evil 7 Wants to Welcome You Home

With Resident Evil 7 biohazard so close to launch it can seem as if hardly a week goes by without some sort of promotion or update. And January hasn’t disappointed with a new movie tie in deal for US customers, a Resident Evil 4D candle to immerse PlayStation VR users even further or how about a live-action experience taking place in London, UK. Today its something a bit more normal, a brand new trailer creepily titled ‘Welcome Home’.

With some seriously eerie background audio, the trailer takes you through the Baker family mansion, with a narration describing how important home and family are. “Home,” says the narrator, “a place of safety and warmth. Where families meet for laughter and feasts,” all the while showcasing the horrors that await those who dare to enter.

If you enjoy the odd scare or two, Resident Evil 7: biohazard is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 24th January in North America and Europe, and 26th January in Japan. PlayStation VR support is included, and exclusive for 12 months.

Laura Skelly, PR Manager, Capcom comments: “For anyone who has ever wanted to enter the world of Resident Evil, now is your chance! We wanted to give fans a little glimpse into the Resident Evil 7: Biohazard gameplay, bringing it to life and allowing people to interact with the game in a brand-new way, and perhaps even having a chance encounter with some of the game’s characters. Playing on the idea of survival horror, we are really excited to see who will be able to escape the experience when it opens its doors to the public later this month.”

Smell the Fear in Resident Evil 7 with the 4D Candle

If you’re a Resident Evil fan you’ll know there’s not long to wait until the next instalment in the series. In the run up to launch, there’s plenty of merchandise available with limited edition collectors copies or steel books with various DLC addons available. Naturally the usual hoodies and t-shirts are on offer, but for virtual reality (VR) players looking for that all important immersion there’s something else, a candle that gives off scents of the dilapidated mansion.

Available through merchandise retail Merchoid, this Resident Evil 7 biohazard candle, dubbed the ‘Blood, Sweat and Fears 4D Candle’, has been created to fully immerse the player in the game by giving off the scent of foisty, old timber and blood smells, lasting for approximately 18-20 hours.

Whilst this may sound like a bit of a gimmick, it has been designed with VR in mind and comes as an officially licensed Capcom product. Merchoid’s Community Manager Jessica Adams explains: “The virtual reality experience is incredible, but we want to take you one step further than that. While playing the game, imagine if you could smell everything you could see and hear. The game becomes incredibly immersive as it tricks all your senses into thinking that you’re really there. The 4D candle is 100% officially licensed Resident Evil merchandise; this means Capcom have smelt the candle and found it scary to enough to give their seal of approval. We’d even suggest that using the Blood, Sweat and Fears 4D Candle is the definitive way to experience the game. Be careful though, with an experience this horrifying, the candle might not be the only smell you notice in the room…”

Manufactured in the UK by Rubber Road Ltd, for those that are interested the Resident Evil 7 4D Candle is available to preorder from Merchoid.com now for £14.99GBP/€17,99EUR/$15.99USD,  shipping on 20th January.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Resident Evil 7, reporting back with any further updates.
