RendeverFit Aims to Help Both Physical & Cognitive Fitness for Seniors

Rendever

Among all the virtual reality (VR) companies out there Rendever is one of the few specifically focusing its attention on older adults, helping seniors overcome social isolation through shared experiences. Today, the company has announced plans to expand its repertoire with RendeverFit, a new platform merging physical fitness, cognitive fitness and social elements.

RendeverFit

Rendever’s VR solution for senior living communities up to now has revolved around using headsets like Oculus Go, providing 360-degree video content which community staff can control for a group viewing experience. RendeverFit will take that idea to the next stage by combining three active modules, Cycle, Paddle, and Paint into one package.

It’ll be the company’s first fitness-based product, built to improve mental health, emotional, psychological, and cognitive function as well as encouraging physical activity. The Cycle module will allow users to cycle through several beautiful environments together whilst Paddle ups the intensity by testing agility and accuracy as users hit balls at targets. The Paint module utilises Multibrush, the multiplayer version of Tilt Brush created by Rendever’s CTO, Tom Neumann.

“Social health is a critical factor when families are considering whether it is best for a loved one to transition into a senior living community or remain at home. Through Rendever’s research, we understand the impact of virtual reality on residents’ social health, and are excited to continue growing our platform to take a more holistic approach to wellbeing,” said Kyle Rand, Cofounder and CEO of Rendever in a statement. “By combining healthy physical movement with the overall wellness of increased socialization, RendeverFit™ will help senior living communities expand their resident care through our fun and dynamic platform. The new RendeverFit™ platform will follow in the footsteps of other award-winning Rendever products, giving communities an arsenal of tools to utilize daily while delivering high quality care.”

MultiBrush

“When I witnessed RendeverFit with my community members, I was overwhelmed with the possibilities and tangible applications this platform will provide. The residents and my team were astounded by what the future holds,” said Marcus Kubicheck at Monarch Healthcare Management. “It was a beautiful experience to see the authentic smiles that everyone shared, especially after exercising! RendeverFit IS the future of long-term care and a shining example of a clinical therapeutic intervention that promotes community health.”

RendeverFit will make its public debut during the 2021 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference & Expo in Phoenix, Arizona next week, where attendees can demo the software. Its official rollout will then take place in December 2021, with pre-orders currently being accepted.

MultiBrush Is A Free Multiplayer Version Of Tilt Brush Out Now For Quest

Thanks to Tilt Brush going open source, we already have Multibrush from Rendever, a free multiplayer version of the groundbreaking VR app available now for Quest via SideQuest. It’s also coming soon to App Lab so you won’t have to sidelaod it.

We figured it was only a matter of time before someone released a multiplayer version of Tilt Brush, but admittedly I thought it would take a little bit longer than a week and a half or so. Luckily, the ingenuity of VR developers knows no bounds.

MultiBrush is out now on SideQuest, where you can sideload the app onto your headset to check it out and collaborate with other VR users online. This is an early 0.01b version of the app so you should expect some issues here and there.

According to the developers from Rendever:

“When Google announced it was open sourcing Tilt Brush last week, Rendever Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Tom Neumann immediately went to work developing a multiplayer version of the popular app that gives creators a way to make art in virtual reality. Within 10 hours, the team developed a working prototype of multiplayer – a feature that has been eagerly requested by Tilt Brush users for years. Given Rendever’s mission to improve health through social VR experiences, Neumann and his team were able to leverage their extensive expertise to develop this version in record time.”

Since Rendever have already confirmed the app is definitely coming to App Lab very soon, you could just hold off if you wanted to avoid sideloading. It hopefully won’t be too long before you can just access it directly from an App Lab page. Here’s more details on how to download App Lab games onto your Quest without even needing a PC at all.

Or you can grab it now on SideQuest. Let us know what you think!

Tilt Brush Gains Multiplayer With MultiBrush for Oculus Quest

MultiBrush

Last month Google dropped official support for its virtual reality (VR) painting app Tilt Brush. But it didn’t let the app die, instead open-sourcing the code on GitHub. Now, one of the most requested features by the Tilt Brush community, multiplayer, has arrived – for the Oculus Quest at least – thanks to Rendever’s CTO, Tom Neumann.

MultiBrush

Rendever specialises in using VR in places like senior living communities and hospitals to overcoming social isolation, so Neumann knows the power of bringing people together.

“At Rendever, bringing people together through VR has been at the heart of what we’ve done since day one. The first time I tried Tilt Brush, I was amazed by the level of creative freedom it offered. It felt like a whole new medium,” said Neumann in a statement. “It has a huge community, so naturally multiplayer has been one of the most requested features. When it was open sourced, we saw a perfect opportunity to dive in and make multiplayer a reality.”

The team actually managed to develop a working multiplayer prototype within 10 hours, now getting the project to a stable stage where they can make it publically available. MultiBrush is free on SideQuest, where you can create a room for others to join. Rendever does note that MultiBrush is still in development so “some things may not work perfectly and we are still implementing some tools in the multiplayer rooms.”

MultiBrush

Considering Google had all those years to develop a multiplayer feature, what Rendever has achieved so far in the timespan since the open-source code went live is impressive. Plus the team will bring MultiBrush to Oculus’ new App Lab soon.

“Through VR, we see a world where social connection is easier than ever, even during times when we’re physically distanced,” continued Neumann. “Our hope is that through working hand-in-hand with creators, we can bring our senior living partners and their residents into the world of VR artistry.”

To showcase app, VR/AR artist Michelle Brown created the landscape imagery in MultiBrush’s new logo. See the app in action below and for further updates on its development, keep reading VRFocus.

Google Tilt Brush Now Open Source, Creators Instantly Set to Work

Tilt Brush - PSVR

Google’s painting app Tilt Brush has been one of the defining virtual reality (VR) titles since its launch in 2016, with artists around the world creating amazing works of art. Like most of Google’s VR projects the company has decided to end support but to ensure its future Tilt Brush is now open source.

Starting as a simple 3D painting app which helped to showcase VR as an artistic medium, over the years Tilt Brush added new interactive features like audio reactive brushes whilst expanding support from PC VR to PlayStation VR and even Oculus Quest. The last update appeared back in April 2020 so it’s no surprise the company has ended support.

Tilt Brush will still be available to purchase on all the digital stores like Steam and Oculus, but for those that know how the source code is available on GitHub. However, some features have been removed with a blog post explaining: “In order to be able to release the Tilt Brush code as open source, there were a few things we had to change or remove due to licensing restrictions. In almost all cases, we documented the process for adding those features back in our comprehensive build guide.”

The open source route means that Tilt Brush won’t suffer the same fate as many of the company’s other VR projects as it continues to concentrate on augmented reality (AR) technology like ARCore. Recent cullings have included Google Poly, its 3D object library; Daydream View headset sales ceasing in 2019 followed by Android 11 completely dropping support last year. Google Expeditions, its VR field trip app also came to an end in 2020.

For the time being at least, Google Earth VR is still being looked after and its acquisition of Owlchemy Labs (Job Simulator, Vacation Simulator) means Google still has some interest in VR. The studio’s CEO Devin Reimer took to Twitter to clarify: “With Tilt Brush’s announcement some folks have asked if this changes anything at Owlchemy. It does not, we are continuing to grow, build awesome games for everyone, innovate and push VR forward! We also can’t wait to announce our next big thing!”

The VR community has already responded to the open source announcement by playing with the code and seemingly achieving what Google couldn’t in five years, multiplayer. The feature had been teased years ago but never came to fruition. Rendever’s CTO Thomas Neumann promptly achieved this as the above tweet showcases.

So Google’s interest in Tilt Brush has ended but the XR community has really just begun. For further updates, keep reading VRFocus.
