Reggie Watts to Kick Off Live Show Series in ‘AltspaceVR’ Starting Saturday

Comedian, lyrical wizard and beatboxer extraordinaire Reggie Watts is set to return to AltspaceVR on Saturday, May 2nd, for an inaugural live show in his newly unveiled multi-week series called ‘Reinterpreted Reality’.

Watts is returning to the social VR platform tomorrow, thereby kicking off a series of free live shows that will span the next eight weeks.

Shows will take place every Saturday, starting May 2nd and ending on June 20th, starting at 5:00 PM PT (local time here).

Watts is no stranger to the AltspaceVR platform; he’s been showing up for virtual comedy spots since 2016, presenting his musical comedy stylings via his own avatar. Unlike other live concerts in VR, which are more like communal gatherings of livestreamed video, Watts is again showing up in-headset where he’ll be simulcast to an unlimited number of users. The artist’s avatar is replicated across technically infinite numbers of stages, so everyone showing up for Watts can watch it as if they were in the same virtual room together.

AltspaceVR is free, and supports a wide range of devices, including SteamVR-compatible headsets via Steam, Oculus Rift via the Oculus StoreOculus Quest, and Oculus Go. It also supports 2D mode via desktop, letting most anyone join in for chats, live shows, and community events.

You can RSVP for each event by clinking the links below:

Cartoon Network’s ‘Journeys VR’ Experience Gets Trippy with Reggie Watts, Trailer Here

Cartoon Network unveiled a new VR experience on Tuesday which is slated to take you on a magical trip through three original VR shorts. To guide you is—who else—the soothing baritone of comedian/musician Reggie Watts.

Watts lends his voice to Gormlorm, a “traveling wizard of the multiverse” who has set up camp in a desert oasis.

Developed by Paper Crane Games, TwinSky Games, and Cartoon Network Studios, the patently Wattsian experience takes you on three journeys, each of which looks to deliver the sort of mind-bending trip only VR can legally provide in most jurisdictions:

Beyond Beeville – As an outcast one-winged bee, you must save your colony from impending collapse by teaming up with your pollen companion, Penny. Explore the garden, solve puzzles, and discover secrets beyond the hive.

Jest to Impress – You are trying out as jester of the King’s court. As jester-in-training, you are presented with a series of escalating props and puzzles. The more the King laughs, the more jealous his personal bard becomes. If your comedic acts fall flat, prepare to become dragon food.

Kosma Kwest – You have been summoned to the cosmic plane to become a potential replacement for Kosma, The Supreme Being, who is in desperate need of a vacation. Complete four metaphysical lessons of the cosmos and take your place on the celestial throne.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the experience was created as a collaboration between multiple animators and artists who developed the VR experience during a series of workshops at the Burbank studio’s VR lab.

Journeys VR is slated to arrive for free on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on October 1st.

Reggie Watts Returns to AltspaceVR Next Week

Regular readers of VRFocus may remember back in May when we reported on acclaimed comedian, beatboxer and DJ, Reggie Watts holding a live performance via social virtual reality (VR) app, AltspaceVR. The show was to celebrate the launch of FrontRow, AltspaceVR’s new tech that gives everyone a front row seat to events. Today Watts has revealed on Twitter that he’ll be returning for another performance next week.

Reggie’s tweet doesn’t reveal any details about the show, other than it’ll be taking place on Wednesday 14th September at 8pm PST (4am GMT). Viewers can expect to see an eclectic mix of comedy and music as his improvised musical sets are created using only his voice, a keyboard, and a looping machine.

Reggie Watts New AltspaceVR Show

AltspaceVR’s FrontRow has the ability to bring thousands of people to an event from across the world. Instead of live-streaming a show in 180 or 360-degrees like NextVR, FrontRow mirrors performers’ avatars to all audience locations. The performer’s gestures, movements and voice are instantly shared in all the performance spaces.

“FrontRow allows everyone who attends to have a front row seat. Do you want to have a private party and attend the show with just your friends? You can do that. Do you want to enjoy the show just by yourself? You can do that. Do you want to have the traditional public event experience with 50 new friends? You can do that, too, Eric Romo, CEO of AltspaceVR has previously commented.

To watch Reggie Watts’ next show you’ll need to download the AltspaceVR app through Google Play for Google Cardboard, Oculus Store for Samsung’s Gear VR, Oculus Home for Oculus Rift or Steam for HTC Vive, and register here.

As AltspaceVR holds more performances, VRFocus will keep you updated.
