Reborn: A Samurai Awakens Hits US & EU PlayStation VR Store

The last time VRFocus heard anything about PlayStation VR exclusive Reborn: A Samurai Awakens was over a year ago, just prior to the Taipei Game Show 2018. This week CIRCLE Entertainment and developer Geronimo Interactive (Pixel Gear) have released the futuristic sword-fighting experience for both North American and European gamers.

Reborn: A Samurai Awakens

Set in a far-flung future where mankind is being attacked by robotic invaders the natural course of action is to resurrect an ancient samurai to defeat them all. Looking like some sort of badass samurai robot yourself, you’re armed with a collection of melee and ranged weaponry to defeat these troublesome enemies.

Not only do you have dual laser katanas for when enemies get too close and pistols for when they’re out of reach, but you’ll also have psychic powers to manipulate objects and do further damage. Whilst sword-fighting you’ll be able to block attacks which will then unlock a timewarp ability to unleash special attacks.

As progression is made through the robot base, destroying guards and massive bosses like Sumo Rikishi Boss and Japanese Warlord, Date Masamune, you’ll have the option to customise weapons and equip different skills as the challenges change.

Reborn: A Samurai Awakens will be going up against another ninja VR experience which has already done very well, Sairento VR. The latter title arrived in the summer for PlayStation VR offering ninja-like reflexes which VRFocus highly rated when reviewing the PC VR version, saying. “Sairento VR is one of the best free-flowing combat titles available for VR headsets, showcasing how far development of VR locomotion has come.”

Available to download now, Reborn: A Samurai Awakens retails on PlayStation Store for £11.99 GBP/$14.99 USD/€14.99 EUR. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Geronimo Interactive, reporting back with further VR updates.

PlayStation VR Exclusive Reborn: A Samurai Awakens Reveals New Boss Battles

Announced ahead of Gamescom, Cologne, last year, Reborn: A Samurai Awakens is a virtual reality (VR) first-person combat videogame. Set to be playable at the Taipei Game Show 2018, Winking Entertainment has revealed two of the boss characters players will face in this past-paced melee experience.

Reborn: A Samurai Awakens is set in the year 2480, and sees the player going hand-to-hand in combat against futuristic alien robot enemies as they fight for survival after mankind’s galactic exploration has incurred the wrath of an alien civilisation. Players will take on the role of Yukimura Sanada, the famous samurai warrior of Feudal Japan, resurrected to fight against extraterrestrial invaders of earth.

Previously seen only as glimpses in the official trailer, the Taipei Game Show 2018 demonstration version is set to reveal more details about the boss fights of Reborn: A Samurai Awakens. The Sumo Rikishi Boss is a robotic juggernaut of strength, able to throw even cars and machinery as projectile weapons. Attacking at deceptively fast speed for his size, the massive body of the Rikishi boss hides certain weak points that the player will be able to exploit.

This exclusive demo also shows off the full moveset of the famous Japanese Warlord, Date Masamune. His origins are a complete mystery – no one knows why he is fighting against the human race, and what powers he possesses. Transported via a bird-like mount, Date Masamune holds nothing but a similar laser katana at his side. Wearing a suit of bulletproof plate armour, this will be a sword-fight players won’t want to bring a gun to.

Earlier this week VRFocus reported on Winking Entertainment announcing its next virtual reality (VR) title for PlayStation VR, Reborn: A Samurai Awakens. If  you liked what you saw from that first trailer, then checkout further images the studio has released, featuring screenshots and character models.

Set in a futuristic Japan, aliens have invaded so famous samurai warrior, Yukimura Sanada, has been resurrected to deal with them. That means players are armed to the teeth with dual laser katanas, pistols and psychic powers at their disposal. These can be duel wielded depending on player preference, so the psychic powers can be used alongside a katana, or just go for pure ranged combat with both pistols.

Created in collaboration with Geronimo Interactive (Pixel Gear), Reborn: A Samurai Awakens has already won several industry accolades, including 2017 Best VR game at PAX East, 2016 Best Hardcore prize at VR Core and 2016 Year’s Best VR game at VRDC and China VR game summit.

Winking Entertainment Set To Announce New Project At Gamescom

The developer behind Unearthing Mars are already working on its new videogame, with virtual reality (VR) title Reborn: A Samurai Awakens due to be showcased at Gamescom, but the studio are not content with just that, and are planning on revealing another upcoming project at Gamescom.

Reborn: A Samurai Awakens will be the centrepiece of Winking entertainment’s offerings at Gamescom, which is due to take place at Cologne, Germany from 22nd-26th August. The new title, developed alongside Pixel Gear developers Geronimo Interactive, follows the story of Yukimura Sanada, a famous warrior from Japanese history, who is forced to fight alien invaders using exotic adaptations of traditional weaponry, such as laser katanas, pistols or even psychic powers. Reborn: A Samurai Awakens will be available for attendees at Gamescom to try out.

A new mechanic will be featured in Reborn: A Samurai Awakens, referred to as ‘Hack Time’ which allows players to stun enemies with precisely-timed counter attacks. This effect lows down time and gives players the ability to inflict double-damage attacks.

Winking Entertainment are also planning to reveal a secret project hey have been working on, as part of an announcement on the 24th August. There are no current details on what this new project will entail, or even what it is titled, with Winking Entertainment keeping details close to the chest.

Reborn: A Samurai Awakens is due to be released for PlayStation VR sometime in late 2017. Further information can be found on the Winking Entertainment website.

VRFocus will bring you further updates on Reborn: A Samurai Awakens and Winking Entertainment’s unnamed new project as it becomes available.

Unearthing Mars Developer Reveals Reborn: A Samurai Awakens Coming to PlayStation VR

In March, developer Winking Entertainment released its first virtual reality (VR) title for PlayStation VR, Unearthing Mars, before bringing it to Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Today, the studio has unveiled its next VR project, Reborn: A Samurai Awakens, once again coming to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) headset.

Created in collaboration with Geronimo Interactive (Pixel Gear), Eric Tsai, Brand Manager at Winking Entertainment made the announcement on PlayStation.Blog. Explaining what’s in-store for players, Tsai says: “Players take the role of Yukimura Sanada, the famous samurai warrior of Feudal Japan, resurrected to fight against extraterrestrial invaders of earth. Yukimura is armed with dual laser katanas, pistols and psychic powers at his disposal. Each hand can also wield a different weapon, so players can choose between a sword-and-gun stance, sword plus psychic power, or just go all-out with dual katanas or dual guns.”

Reborn: A Samurai Awakens will feature a mechanic called ‘Hack Time’. While players will be able to stun enemies by counter-attacking at precise moments, Hack Time slows time down, giving players an opportunity to do double-damage. The title will also feature some epic boss battles with QTE moments used to combat these seemingly impervious enemies

Winking Entertainment plans to launch Reborn: A Samurai Awakens towards the end of 2017 for PlayStation VR.
