Holiday Cheer in Space with EVE: Valkyrie Warzone Winter Update

EVE: Valkyrie has been the introduction to virtual reality (VR) for a number of players, acting as the first look into the possibilities of immersive technology. With the Warzone update, VR and non-VR players to play together. CCP Games have new released the Winter Update for the title, bringing some new tools and features for players to enjoy.

The Winter Update introduces a number of new features for the EVE: Valkyrie Warzone community. The first is the much requested Custom Matches, which means players no longer need to wait for a specific game mode to be available, since players can set up their own matches using EVE: Valkyrie Warzone‘s official dedicated servers. The lobby area can be controlled using passcodes, private invites and a public game browser. Users can also select specific options for map rotation and game mode as well as several other settings.

For player-run tournaments, many people want to get a close view of the action without running the risk of getting blown up themselves. For these users, Spectator Mode is now available, letting users follow the action either by zooming around the battlefield as a third-person camera, or pcik a viewing angle from fixed hotspots in key areas of the map.

Also newly introduced is support for Tobii and TrackIR head-tracking, which offers a more level playing-field to players both in and out of VR, with non-VR players able to use gesture control to survey the battlefield in a similar way to VR players. The update also implements the ‘look to lock’ feature for non-VR players

As a celebration of the launch of the EVE: Online Lifeblood expansion, a new map inspired by the expansion is being introduced. The Moon Refinery map is set against the stark scenery of a moon mining facility, populated with various mining and industrial ships familiar to players of EVE: Online and offering a spectacular visual display of laser fire and explosions.

Paw Print Games Aims to Bring VR and Non-VR Players together in a Shower of Cartoon Zombie Blood

nDreams has today announced a publishing agreement for Paw Print Games’ Bloody Zombies, coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC later this year. The latter two versions of the videogame will include support for virtual reality (VR), through PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Bloody Zombies ScreenshotBloody Zombies is a side-scrolling beat-‘em-up designed for multiplayer co-operative gameplay. Up to four players can join a game in any combination of local and online play as they battle through a version of London ravaged by zombie hordes. The videogame promises to delivery all of the usual brawler tropes with the added element of unique gameplay designed for those in VR.

Antony White, Co-Founder and Director at Paw Print Games, said: “Bloody Zombies combines irreverent British humour, exaggerated characterisation with an approach to over-the-top urban violence to create a new style of brawler. Team play is definitely key, but you’ll also need to beat your friends to compete for the highest score.”

In Bloody Zombies, the VR player(s) will benefit from an enhanced viewpoint, allowing them to find in-game secrets. Any combination of VR and non-VR players is allowed, either locally or online.

Bloody Zombies transforms the classic co-op brawler into an original experience. Players team up to battle the undead in the streets of London, regardless of whether if they are playing in VR with its unique viewpoint or on console or PC,” said David Corless, VP of Publishing, nDreams.

Gameplay: Statik #2 – Fiendish Puzzles And Robot Rhumbas

Readers of VRFocus will have likely seen recent reviews for both GNOG and Statik by VRFocus writer Rebecca Hills-Duty on the site. We’ll be covering both games this weekend starting with the latter, and you might have seen Rebecca take on the puzzler from Tarsier Studios for PlayStation VR earlier in the week. But the devious puzzle boxes do not stop there and Rebecca is back to once more have her hands encased in scientific gizmos for the voyeuristic delight of the scientist Dr Ingen.

That description is oddly approrpiate on this occasion since in this part Ingen is quick to introduce his “most wonderful invention to date” called The Voyeur, which is essentially a camera strapped to the top of a roomba. Whilst that doesn’t sound to impressive you’ll see Rebecca soon finds controlling the little remote control robot is vital for her completing her task – as well as starts off some pretty funky music. A roomba robot rhumba, perhaps?

Which PlayStation VR games would you like to see the team take on? Let us know in the comments. VRFocus will be back tomorrow with another gameplay video.
