PlayStation VR Arcade Throwback Operation Warcade Heads To U.S. Retail Next Month

You may have read articles from a number of outlets in recent weeks about how virtual reality (VR) is potentially the saving grace for the arcade industry. Of course, the growing push and roll out of VR experiences that fall under the digital out-of-home entertainment (DOE) bracket is nothing new. As anyone who has read guest writer Kevin Williams’ The Virtual Arena column will be able to tell you.

However, one thing we have also seen is the arcade being increasingly represented within VR itself. With a number of videogames applications and looking to recapture the feel of going to the arcade complete with throwbacks to classic games of the day. One of the most notable we’ve seen recently is Operation Warcade, a title that brings back memories of the likes of Operation Wolf and other ‘uzi bolted to a cabinet’ shooters from the early eighties where the digital bullets fly and the enemy bodycount is high.

Developed by Ivanovich Games for the PlayStation VR and published by Perp Games has now been confirmed as heading to the North American retailers on September 4th, 2018 and will be priced at $29.99 (USD), incorporating 100 missions across 36 levels.  Listed features for Operation Warfare include:

Immersion Mode
After shooting various immersion points through each map, players are warped into the environment, putting the player
directly behind the steering wheel of a jeep, in the cockpit of a military jet and other intense situations.

Retro VR Feel
With over 10 hours of gameplay, Operation Warcade brings the rush of nostalgic arcade-style play to gamers in an all-new experience built from the ground up specifically for VR platforms.

Operation Warcade VRHardcore Mode
Once players have mastered the art of taking dudes out repeatedly, they can go gung-ho in hardcore mode, where each environment is condensed into a single level with a limited number of retries.

Online Leaderboards
Players can compare their kills to others through an online leaderboard to see who’s the biggest bad ass of them all.

“We have fond memories of making trips to the arcade to spend coins for hours of fun, and we love having that feeling again with Operation Warcade” Commented Mickey Torode, Director of Publishing at Perp Games. “VR’s ability to fully transport you, like you’re standing in front of a classic arcade machine, is fantastic – and it goes even further, letting you literally step into the machine.”

VRFocus will bring you more news about upcoming PlayStation VR titles very soon.

New Screenshots of The Walker for PlayStation VR Wander into View

Forthcoming PlayStation VR exclusive The Walker has remained pretty elusive since its announcement earlier this year; however the reveal of a western release last month is likely to begin building the anticipation. With that, a new selection of screenshots taken from the videogame has been revealed.

The Walker key art

The Walker casts the player as the last known descendant of the ancient, mystical Fangxiang family, famed for their accomplished mix of swordsmanship and sorcery. A demonic army is sweeping through Shanghai and you stand alone to meet them, fighting off waves of the monstrous militia horde and battling between sweeping boss showdowns. In The Walker, players can infuse a variety of weapons with special powers stand as they attempt to stand their ground against the forces of evil.

A modern horror story in a major Asian city, modern Shanghai meets myth and magic in this epic horror combat game exclusive to PlayStation VR. The screenshots revealed from the videogame however, included below, demonstrate little of this action. Instead concentrating on a single shadowy figure for the most part, dressed head-to-toe in a black robe, and a just a single shot of one of the enemies players will face in The Walker.

The Walker promises to deliver a full 360-degree experience in a virtual rendition of Shanghai, split across six distinct districts. Players will use the PlayStation Move motion controllers to represent their hands in-game, though exactly how movement – suggested to be smooth locomotion – will be handled has not yet been revealed.

Set for release later this year, it’s not currently known whether or not the retail edition – published by Perp Games – will launch alongside the digital release via the PlayStation Store. Hopes remain high that more details will be revealed at this week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Los Angeles, where VRFocus are on the show floor reporting back with all the latest VR news.

The Walker can be pre-ordered now via Amazon and Play Asia, despite not yet having a specified release date. VRFocus will keep you updated with any further information regarding the western release of The Walker and other VR titles from Winking Entertainment.

Tiny Bull Studios Release New GIFs For Upcoming VR Title Blind

Tiny Bull Studios’ upcoming virtual reality (VR) title Blind has been on the radar for some time now. The title invites players to navigate an unfamiliar world without the traditional visual complexity and instead, users must tap their cane in order to emit sound wave which reflect off – and therefor highlight – surrounding objects. Now Tiny Bull Studios’ have released a number of new GIFs that show the title off in action.

With a sinister presence called the Warden lurking around the mansion players will need to explore, solving puzzles as they adventure deeper into the building all while trying to uncovering the mystery of what’s happened.

Since then Tiny Bull Studios have been working hard to bring the prototype into a full title with the support of their publisher Surprise Attack Games.

Blind

The new GIFs show the echolocation in action in a number of different situations. This includes walking around the building with a hand reached out so to feel for surroundings. Solving puzzles, picking up skulls and even approaching a still figure in the middle of a room. All of these showcase just how effective the echolocation gameplay system looks to work and it is sure to make for a immersive gameplay experience when the title finally releases.

There is no official release date for Blind yet other than the Q2 2018 listen on the titles official Steam page. It is confirmed to be releasing with support for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive along with a PlayStation VR release planned for later this year, published by Surprise Attack Games. There is no word on Windows Mixed Reality compatibility at this time. The PlayStation VR release will also be getting a retail release thanks to publisher Perp Games and is available to pre-order via Amazon and Play Asia at this time though again, no release date is mentioned.

PlayStation VR Exclusive The Walker Stumbling Towards North America & Europe

Winking Entertainment, developer of the hugely popular virtual reality (VR) title Unearthing Mars and the forthcoming Reborn: A Samurai Awakens, revealed The Walker, a new PlayStation VR exclusive videogame, for release in China early in 2018. Now however, the title has been confirmed for a western release, including a retail edition courtesy of Perp Games.

The Walker key art

The Walker is based in a time where traditional Chinese culture is on the crossroads of modernisation. The videogame combines the ancient Chinese art of exorcism with modern weapons and equipment, casting players in the role of exorcists with the ability to use Chinese paper Talismans as they battle their way through grotesque monsters and demons in order to protect the city. As the last known descendant of the ancient Fangxiang family, it rests upon your shoulders to live up to your famed lineage thanks to the ability to use mystical perks and charms to destroy all who stand before you.

A variety of customisation mechanics are included in The Walker in order to keep the gameplay fresh on repeated play. Players can combine the use of firearms and swordplay with spellcasting, giving their weaponry unique special powers. As they face-off against legions of demons, players will also find themselves going toe-to-toe with gigantic bosses with randomised attack patterns.

Winking Entertainment are promising total 360-degree movement with smooth locomotion in The Walker, as they recreate the streets of Shanghai through a core questline, mini-game challenges and boss fights. No hands-on time with The Walker has yet been made available; however it’s possible that the videogame will appear in some form at next month’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Los Angeles. VRFocus will be on the ground at E3 reporting back with all the latest VR news.

Blind Sets Sights on PlayStation VR Retail Edition

Tiny Bull Studios’ Blind has been on the radar for some time. With a PC release for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive expected soon, the development team had already confirmed that a PlayStation VR edition was set to follow later in the year. Now however, it appears that Tiny Bull Studios has entered into a publishing agreement with Perp Games for a retail edition of Blind.

Blind Screenshot 1

An interesting and surreal interpretation of echo location, Blind challenges users to navigate a virtual reality (VR) environment without the traditional visual complexity; instead, users must tap their cane in order to emit sound waves which reflect off – and thus highlight – surrounding objects. The player must use this asset to solve puzzles as they explore the mansion in which they are held captive by a mysterious puppet master.

VRFocus has met with Tiny Bull Studios on numerous occasions, most recently at Gamescom, Cologne, last year. CEO Matteo Lana revealed during an interview that Blind was borne as part of 2014’s Global Game Jam, suggesting that four years of the team’s lives have been invested in this intriguing VR experience.

Blind doesn’t yet have an official release date, however Tiny Bull Studios has confirmed that an Oculus Rift and HTC Vive compatible edition will be launching ‘this spring’, with a PlayStation VR release to follow later in the year, published by Surprise Attack Games. There’s currently no word on the suggested Windows Mixed Reality compatibility, and while many may suggest it’s safe to assume the Steam release will support this range of head-mounted displays (HMDs) also, there’s no indication of this on the videogame’s official Steam page.

The retail edition of Blind, set to be published by prolific retail-packagers Perp Games, does not have a release date currently. It’s not yet known whether the retail edition of Blind will coincide with the videogame’s digital release via the PlayStation Store, however pre-orders for a European edition are already available via Amazon and Play Asia. VRFocus will of course continue to keep you updated with all the latest details on Blind and other forthcoming PlayStation VR releases.
