Fitness App BoxVR to get a Physical box Edition for PlayStation VR

While not every PlayStation VR videogame gets a boxed version for gamers to collect, there are still plenty that do, with the likes of Sairento VR, The Wizards – Enhanced Edition, Squishies, Smash Hit Plunder and many more available. The company behind most of these launches is Perp Games, today announcing that fitness title BoxVR will be arriving on retail shelves in October.

BoxVR

Developed by FitXR, BoxVR launched digitally for PlayStation VR in April, leaving Early Access on PC the following month. As the name suggests, the title focuses on high-energy boxing gameplay, with players able to choose a selection of workouts depending on ability and how many calories they want to burn.

Alongside the 45 choreographed routines of varying lengths and intensities, BoxVR also features the My Workouts mode. This allows players to customise their experience, varying the duration and intensity of the routine whilst a custom playlist can be finetuned from the 110 included music tracks covering Rock to Pop, Dance and Hip Hop.

“We’re excited to partner with Perp Games to bring BoxVR to a wider audience and, hopefully, turn many of them into fitness enthusiasts,” said Sam Cole, co-founder of FitXR in a statement. “Given how many gamers and VR fans have migrated to our platform to not only get workouts inconsistently but have fun doing it, it’s a natural fit.”

BoxVR

BoxVR isn’t purely single-player either supporting multiplayer. You can compete with five other people in real-time to tackle the same workout together.

Rob Edwards, Managing Director of Perp Games added: “VR has limitless potential in helping people get fit and stay healthy. We can think of no better partner than FitXR to release our first fitness game and are delighted to bring one of the very best workout experiences out there to global retail.”

The physical launch will take place at some point during October, with the European version arriving first and the North American version shortly after. Or if you happen to live in the EU and don’t mind a digital version, BoxVR is currently 36 percent off on PlayStation Store, retailing for £15.99 GBP instead of £24.99. The Angry Birds Movie 2: VR Under Pressure Gets Physical in September

Yesterday, The Angry Birds Movie 2: VR Under Pressure videogame arrived exclusively for PlayStation VR via the PlayStation Store. One of the unique qualities of owning the headset is the possibility of buying titles as a physical disk – something no other virtual reality (VR) headset provides – and with The Angry Birds Movie 2: VR Under Pressure being a big IP launch, a retail store version will arrive in September.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 VR: Under Pressure

Developer XR Games teamed up with Perp Games to make the physical copy a reality, with European locations seeing a release on 6th September. In North America, the launch will take place on 13th September.

Working with Sony Pictures Virtual Reality and Rovio Entertainment, XR Games wanted to create a local co-operative multiplayer for all the family, where one player dons the PlayStation VR while three others use the TV social screen and DualShock 4 controllers.

The aim of the videogame is to run and protect a submarine with the VR player the captain and everyone else the crew. Red and the other Angry Birds team up with the Pigs to take on a common enemy, needing to keep the submarine in motion. All of which means players are tasked with doing repairs, crafting torpedoes and storing treasure.

“At Sony Pictures Virtual Reality, we believe that VR should be social, cooperative and fun. We’re excited about XR Games’ unique take on The Angry Birds Movie 2 VR game because friends and frenemies alike can team up and work toward a common goal. I dare anyone to play this game and not have a blast,” said Jake Zim, SVP, Virtual Reality, Sony Pictures Entertainment.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 VR: Under Pressure

“VR is an exciting medium, but there are not yet enough games that can be enjoyed with family and friends in the real world,” said Bobby Thandi, Founder and CEO at XR Games. “We saw an opportunity to introduce new players to PS VR by making a game in which VR and TV players have different viewpoints and responsibilities within the same funny, team-spirited game.”

As mentioned, the digital version of The Angry Birds Movie 2: VR Under Pressure is available, with The Angry Birds Movie 2 already out in the UK – the North American theatrical release takes place next week. For further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

Honor and Duty: D-Day All Out War Edition Hits PlayStation VR in September

Currently, there are two versions of Strange Games’ multiplayer shooter Honor and Duty compatible with PlayStation VR, Honor and Duty: Arcade Edition from 2018 and Honor and Duty: D-Day which arrived earlier this year. In conjunction with Perp Games, the pair are going to release a retail store version called Honor and Duty: D-Day All Out War Edition, with a release date now scheduled for September.

Honor and Duty: All Out War Edition

Strange Games’ Honor and Duty franchise is a first-person shooter (FPS) set during WWII, ‘with Team Fortress style gameplay’ states Perp. For this physical release, both Honor and Duty: Arcade Edition and Honor and Duty: D-Day have been remastered.

Featuring single-player and multiplayer modes, Honor and Duty: Arcade Edition offers four types of characters for players to choose from Infantry, Medic, Heavy and Engineer, each with their own attributes and unlocked gradually as you progress. Killing enemies earns players currency which can then be spent on ammo and weapons such as rocket launchers, machine guns, and rifles. To enhance the strategy players can also train soldiers to fight alongside them and help claim objectives.

Honor and Duty: D-Day offers the potential for massive 32 player online matches across modes such as Team Deathmatch, Attack and Defend and Battle Royale. The title allows players to jump into planes, jeeps and tanks, as well as supporting PlayStation Aim. The big addition to the videogame is a single-player campaign mode.

“We’re very excited to work with Perp Games in delivering a physical release of the Honor and Duty franchise. They’ve been extremely easy to work with and very supportive during the process. Additionally, it’s great to work with a publisher who has so much experience with PSVR and the community. We look forward to a long relationship with Perp Games,” Reggie Strange, Managing Director at Strange Games in a statement.

Honor and Duty: All Out War Edition

“At Perp Games we love how the Honor and Duty brand is getting stronger and stronger. Strange Games is great at listening to what their fans want and continually building and adding content to their games. We feel a special boxed Edition is a perfect step in the development of this franchise,” adds Rob Edwards, Managing Director of Perp Games.

Honor and Duty: D-Day All Out War Edition is scheduled to arrive at retail locations on 3rd September, with GAME taking pre-orders for £19.99 GBP now. For further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

Sairento VR’s Physical Edition Coming to North American Shelves in August

Two weeks ago Mixed Realms and Perp Games released Sairento VR as a physical videogame for those European gamers that like an actual disk to go in their PlayStation VR collection. A North American edition was always on the cards, and now a release date has been confirmed.

SairentoVR

Sairento VR for PlayStation VR has been available to NA players for just over a week via PlayStation Store, but for those interested in picking one up from retail shelves you’ll need to wait another four weeks, with the release taking place on Tuesday, 13th August.

Included on the disk will be all the base game weapons and the “Sairento VR – Weapons Pack” DLC from the PC version. These are the Kusarigama which acts like a kama in close quarters combat but can be extended into a sickle and chain and used as a flailing weapon. The Kigiri claw weapon, with the secondary capability of ejecting the claw blades as deadly projectiles. And lastly the Slugger, a unique SMG that is plasma-based and uses a heat management system instead of physical rounds for ammo.

Other than that everything else is the same. So you’ll be able to perform somersaults, multiple jumps, side flips, wall runs, and power slides as you hack, slash, duck, and weave through hordes of enemies. A single-player campaign mode puts you into the ranks of the Silent Ones, a covert organization which practices the code and martial arts of the ancient samurais and ninjas.

Sairento VR - Kigiri

VRFocus reviewed Sairento VR in 2018 on PC, giving it four stars, saying: “Sairento VR is one of the best free-flowing combat titles available for VR headsets, showcasing how far development of VR locomotion has come.”

Last month the studio also released Sairento Untethered for Oculus Quest, a stripped-down version which has five maps, simply due to the processing power of the standalone headset. But Mixed Realms is working on several updates to improve that edition.

Sairento VR is coming to North American retail for PlayStation VR on 13th August retailing for $39.99 USD. Pre-orders are available now through AmazonBest Buy and GameStop. For further updates from Mixed Realms, keep reading VRFocus.

Gamescom 2019 to Host The VR Games Showcase Featuring Six Titles

Next month the biggest videogame event in Europe takes place in Cologne, Germany, Gamescom 2019. And for the first time, several studios from the virtual reality (VR) industry will be hosting a tie-in event called The VR Games Showcase.

The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets

The brainchild of Fast Travel Games’ Andreas Juliusson, The VR Games Showcase will feature Carbon Studio, Survios, Neat Corporation, Resolution Games and Cortopia Studios. Only open to media and content creators (most of Gamescom is open to the public), they’ll be able to get hands-on time with some of the latest VR offers.

Presented by Perp Games, visitors will get exclusive hands-on time with Survios’ The Walking Dead OnslaughtFast Travel Games’ The Curious Tale of the Stolen PetsBudget Cuts 2: Mission Insolvency by Neat Corporation and Fast Travel Games, Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! by Resolution Games, Cortopia Studios’ An Adventure in Wonderland and The Wizards: Dark Times by Carbon Studios.

“The VR Games Showcase’ is a concept I came up with 6 months ago. The VR industry is still young and most active VR game studios are relatively small, like us, with the same kind of marketing challenges and lack of resources. However, if multiple studios would join forces to share costs and efforts, I believed we would be able to deliver a real heavyweight event concept with clear value for both media and content creators to attend!” says Juliusson in a statement.

“As I started to reach out about this initiative, I was met with a massive interest not only from the studios but also from Perp Games, whose investment helped bring it to life. Now, the biggest studio event collaboration in the VR games industry is finally happening, with the premiere taking place at Gamescom this summer! I am hoping we can keep building on this concept and allow ‘The VR Games Showcase’ to grow going forward. This unique collaboration really raises the bar for VR games marketing and event presence.”

The Walking Dead Onslaught

‘The VR Games Showcase’ is presented by global games publisher Perp Games. Perp Games is a market leader in VR publishing and proud to support such innovative concepts,” adds Perp Games MD, Rob Edwards. “We truly believe VR offers players a unique gameplay experience and ‘The VR Games Showcase’ is a great way to allow gamers to experience hands-on, some of the most exceptional VR games being developed.”

VRFocus will be attending Gamescom 2019 so keep an eye out for the latest VR videogames coverage from the event.

E3 2019: Physical Releases Planned For Golem, Angry Birds Movie 2 And More From Perp Games

Publisher Perp Games is planning physical releases for a series of VR games.

The company announced during the E3 VR showcase The Angry Birds Movie 2 VR: Under Pressure will be released in a physical edition later this year. The family friendly VR game looks like a great one for couch co-op with the PlayStation VR headset. The game will be released this summer to coincide with the movie.

“Under Pressure takes advantage of PlayStation VR’s exclusive Social Screen platform to allow all four players to play in the same room for a fun, party-style couch co-op experience,” reads a description on the Rovio website.

The Angry Birds Movie 2: Under Pressure is a new VR game.

Not all VR games make it to physical release for retail stores but Perp Games is publishing a number of them. Drunken Bar Fight a “simple, immersive, silly, rowdy party game” will also be getting a physical special edition release later this year as well, according to Perp.

Pixel Ripped 1989 is a “wacky multi-dimensional homage to the early days of gaming” with a sequel on the way set in 1995. Perp is also working on a physical release on the Perp Store in collaboration with developer ARVORE.

We haven’t heard much from the developers behind Golem for PSVR, but the game made an appearance recently at PAX East and, according to the publisher, this too should get a physical release at launch.

Here’s the segment the publisher shared detailing its plans for these VR titles:

Sairento VR Gets Physical With PlayStation VR in July

It was in December 2018 when Mixed Realms and Perp Games announced plans to bring ninja action title Sairento VR to PlayStation VR, initially in Q1 2019. After several months of silence, the companies have now confirmed a release date for a physical retail launch, set to take place in July.

SairentoVR

It will, in fact, be a dual launch both in retail stores as well as online across European territories. A North American release date has yet to be confirmed.

“We are thrilled to bring our game through Perp Games to the PSVR fans who have been incredibly excited but patient for its release. Our game is to let them experience what it is like to move and fight like a cyber ninja!,” said Aldric Chang, CEO of Mixed Realms in a statement.

Often described as a cyber ninja simulator, Sairento VR is a first-person combat experience set in a near-future Japan. You play a member of the Silent Ones, a secret organisation of citizens trained in the martial arts of ancient samurais and ninjas. In the story campaign, a conspiracy will force you to fight against those you once called allies.

“The wait is over and we are so proud to bring the physical release of Sairento VR to PSVR fans all over the world” adds Rob Edwards, MD of Perp Games. “This is a truly great game and Mixed Realms is a very talented team.”

SairentoVR

Sairento VR mixes both close combat fighting with long-range shooting mechanics, whilst at the same time allowing you to perform crazy manoeuvres to evade enemies. Using an arsenal of weapons includes katanas, guns, arrows, kunais and throwing glaives which can be upgraded and evolved throughout the videogame, you can effortlessly kill opponents whilst perform somersaults, triple jumps, side flips, wall runs, and power slides.

VRFocus reviewed Sairento VR in 2018 on PC, giving it four stars, saying: “Sairento VR is one of the best free-flowing combat titles available for VR headsets, showcasing how far development of VR locomotion has come.”

Perp Games and Mixed Realms will release Sairento VR on 5th July. When details of the North American release are available, VRFocus will let you know.

The North American Retail Edition of Ghost Giant Will Arrive in May for PlayStation VR

Zoink Games’ Ghost Giant will soon be arriving on PlayStation VR, with a digital release date of next Tuesday, 16th April. Last month the studio also revealed a collaboration with Perp Games to create a physical version, set to hit European shelves on 19th April. Today, the pair have revealed Ghost Giant will also get a retail store release in North America.

Ghost Giant

Looking to be one of the more unique virtual reality (VR) title to hit PlayStation VR this Spring, Ghost Giant will be arriving at retailers such as Amazon, GameStop and Target on Tuesday, 7th May 2019, retailing for $29.99 USD.

Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, this will be Zoink Games’ first virtual reality (VR) experience for PlayStation VR. Set in the interactive, colourful world of Sancourt, the title is a puzzle adventure where players are the titular Ghost Giant. An invisible entity visible only to a little lonely boy named Louis, who is eager to make a new friend, players need to build trust with Louis by helping him with various challenges.

Very much like Pillow’s Willow VR Studios’ Spark of Light, players will find the landscape wrapped around them, so they can interact with all the levels and the characters that inhabit them, peering into their tiny world and helping them out when needed.

Ghost Giant

Two PlayStation Move controllers are required to interact with the videogame, so that players can rotate and open individual houses to reveal the stories going on inside as the occupants go about their daily lives, or simply go about pulling plants and lifting vehicles. There are several levels to explore including the town, harbour, Louis’ sunflower farm and the local junkyard.

Alongside Ghost Giant, Perp Games will be bringing several other PlayStation VR titles to retail stores, including Squishies from German indie developer Brainseed Factory and The Wizards – Enhanced Edition by Carbon Studio.

Ghost Giant is a PlayStation VR exclusive developed by Zoink Games and published by Perp Games. It’ll arrive first on PlayStation Store on 16th April, then on European shelves from 19th April and finally North American stores on 7th May 2019. For any further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

The Wizards – Enhanced Edition to get a Physical Release on PlayStation VR

After confirming development of a PlayStation VR version for The Wizards last summer, Carbon Studio revealed a couple of weeks ago that the videogame would be released in March. Today, Perp Games has now said that a physical version is also on its way, due a month later.

The Wizards Enhanced Edition

Now called The Wizards – Enhanced Edition, this new version of the magical combat title sees several new enhancements over the original. The six-hour-long, single-player Story Campaign now includes a whole new level, never-before-seen map, battles, and expanded lore.  Another new addition is that of character customisation. Players will be able to change the colour of their magic gloves which has the added benefit of containing magical glyphs representing their health status. Plus there are checkpoints, improved hand tracking, accessibility and a whole bunch of other features to polish the experience.

The title still includes the Arena mode, where players can compete in never-ending battles, as well as the Fate Cards game modifier option that can change the videogame’s difficulty and rules. For example, players can highly increase their score multiplier by using a card that makes them start each level with only 1 HP.

“We’ve spent many months developing PlayStation VR version of The Wizards. This time was shared between polishing existing features, developing brand new content for the Enhanced Edition, and adding accessibility options based on the PS VR community feedback,” says Pawel Gajda of Carbon Studio in a statement. “We can’t wait for the release!”

The Wizards Enhanced Edition

“The magic of VR is the ability to transport you into new worlds and adventures. Carbon Studios use of VR and the PlayStation Move controllers to actually put you into the shoes of a young wizard, casting spells with your own hand actions, is truly outstanding,” Rob Edwards, Managing Director of Perp Games adds.

The Wizards – Enhanced Edition will launch in retail stores on 26th April 2019, with the digital version due to arrive for PlayStation VR on 12th March 2019. When the digital release for PlayStation VR takes place, the PC version for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive will be updated. For any further updates regarding The Wizardskeep reading VRFocus.
