Gravitational to get Digital & Physical Launch in July for PlayStation VR

Gravitational

Perp Games, the British publisher behind numerous PlayStation VR titles hitting retail locations has announced the launch date for Gravitational in conjunction with Studica Solution and Electric Monkeys. Already winning several awards, Gravitational is coming to PlayStation VR in July, in both digital and physical editions.

Gravitational

Having picked up The Itamaraty Social Impact Games Award last year and the People’s Choice Award during the Big Festival 2021 this month, Gravitational is a physics-based puzzle videogame set in a future where gravity can be manipulated. You play Sebastian, a scientist at GraviCorp, one of many companies developing gravitational travel and control systems.

An incident occurs where the main reactor core collapses and it’s up to Sebastian to find a way through and stop the catastrophe. Not only will you have to solve the various puzzles on route but locomotion is entirely wheelchair-based, with the option of using motorised or manual control methods. These are then combined with zero-g segments for a fully immersive puzzle experience.

Gravitational has made a huge impact since its announcement and we are incredibly proud to be working with such a talented team as Electric Monkeys,” said Rob Edwards, Managing Director of Perp Games in a statement. “Gravitational is an incredibly fun game, that makes you think about the world around you.”

Gravitational

“We are absolutely thrilled with the award. Creating a game like Gravitational has been a great experience, it opened our eyes to social issues we didn’t even know and showed us a new way of thinking,” Hugo Campos, Co-Founder of Electric Monkeys Game Studio adds. “We are very glad to work with Perp, who believe in Gravitational and work alongside our team to help create the best experience for the game.”

Electric Monkeys and Perp Games will launch Gravitational for PlayStation VR on 13th July 2021 digitally, whilst the physical retail version will arrive a few days later on 16th July. The videogame will also be released for PC VR headsets in 2021 with a demo currently available on Steam for HTC Vive. For further updates on Gravitational, keep reading VRFocus.

Special Retail Edition of Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series Confirmed for PlayStation VR

Vader Immortal

If you’re a Star Wars fan with a PlayStation VR then you really should own a copy of Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series. If you’ve been holding out in the hope of a physical retail release then VRFocus has some great news, one is on the way. Today, ILMxLAB and Perp Games have announced a disc version is coming this Spring.

Vader Immortal

As a special retail edition of Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series the physical release won’t simply feature all three episodes in a nice case, it’ll also come supplied with some extra goodies. These will include physical postcards and never-before-seen video footage.

“Here at ILMxLAB we are excited to team up with Perp Games for the Special Retail Edition of Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series,” said Harvey Whitney, ILMxLAB Producer in a statement.“It’s great to be able to bring our award-winning immersive story about one of the most iconic villains of all time to even more Star Wars fans, with unique and fun extras to enjoy. We are all looking forward to seeing it in stores later this Spring.”

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series originally released episodically for Oculus Quest across the latter part of 2019. Designed to be more of an interactive experience rather than a fully-fledged videogame, nevertheless, you still get to wield Force powers and a lightsaber through the missions. It takes place entirely on Mustafar, the lava planet home to Darth Vader’s base. With a cannon narrative set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope its another important piece in the Star Wars universe.

Vader Immortal

“ILMxLAB has done an incredible job in bringing the Star Wars universe to VR,” said Rob Edwards, Managing Director at Perp Games. “Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series is stunning. It is an honour to publish a very special physical product, and we can’t wait for both VR and Star Wars fans to experience the Physical Edition.”

Perp Games and ILMxLAB haven’t given an exact launch date just yet, only offering a Spring 2021 window. That would indicate a launch isn’t too far off. When those details are made available, VRFocus will let you know.

Solaris: Offworld Combat Gets PSVR Physical Launch In June, Planned Digital Release In May

Solaris: Offworld Combat is coming to PSVR this June with a physical release from Perp Games. According to a First Contact Entertainment representative, the digital version is planned to release a month earlier in May.

Perp Games 👾🎮 on Twitter: “We’re not finished just yet. Solaris Offworld Combat is the next game to be getting a physical box release. Coming in June to global markets! Will you be buying it? https://t.co/5sphrqsh10” / Twitter

Solaris: Offworld Combat on PSVR

Originally, Solaris was coming to PSVR late last year around the same time as the Quest and PC VR version of the game but got delayed. Now, it’s slated for release in just a couple of months.

The latest VR shooter from First Contact Entertainment (creators of Firewall Zero Hour) is a sci-fi competitive VR shooter that feels a bit like Quake in VR due to its speed and intense arena levels. It’s a very breezy, fast-paced game that’s accessible and easy to quickly jump in and out of. The closest comparison is probably Hyper Dash.

Soalris is a notable release because other than Firewall Zero Hour, there really haven’t been many options for shooter fans on PSVR. Alvo is coming soon too, but the headset is on its last legs at this point.

The PS Aim Controller continues to be one of the best things about the PSVR platform, so I’m all for seeing more games support it, but it’s a shame games like this didn’t hit PSVR earlier in its life cycle. Hopefully PSVR 2 on PS5 is backwards compatible and it can give late-life cycle games like this one new life when it releases.

Solaris is coming to PSVR very soon with a planned digital release in May and physical release from Perp Games in June. For more on this game make sure and read our Solaris: Offworld Combat review and stay tuned for all the latest in VR.

Pickup PlayStation VR Physical Edition of Maskmaker in June

Maskmaker

There’s less than a month to go until InnerspaceVR and MWM Immersive launch Maskmaker for multiple virtual reality (VR) platforms. Occasionally, PlayStation VR owners are treated to a physical edition usually thanks to Perp Games and that’s going to be the case again. It’s been revealed that Maskmaker will hit retail locations in June.

Maskmaker

Maskmaker is gearing up to be one of the more interesting VR puzzle titles to be released in the first half of 2021, with a decent narrative weaving the various mechanics and worlds into a cohesive whole. As VRFocus has previously reported, you play mask maker Prospero’s apprentice, learning the craft and the magical abilities it brings. Inside his workshop you’ll be able to carve masks before applying them with paints and other adornments. These have to be found in the different biomes which can only be traversed by making new masks.

Naturally, the masks form an intrinsic part of the puzzle process as you locate various level guardians to copy their masks and possess them. All the while learning about the mysterious Prospero and the truth behind this identity.

“The team at Perp Games are some of the most passionate people we’ve encountered in the gaming industry, and it was a natural fit to partner with them to publish a physical edition of Maskmaker,” said Ethan Stearns, executive vice president at MWM Interactive in a statement. “For many gamers, there is something special about being able to collect physical discs of their favorite games, and we can’t wait for players to get their hands on Maskmaker.”

Maskmaker

A Fisherman’s Tale is such an amazing game and worthy winner of all the acclaim and plaudits,” said Rob Edwards, Managing Director at Perp Games. “InnerspaceVR have proved that they are one of the best VR development studios around, and it is with great pride that we are working with them and MWM Interactive on their new title, the wonderful Maskmaker.”

The physical edition of Maskmaker for PlayStation VR is due to be released on 18th June 2021. The digital version for HTC Vive, Valve Index, Oculus Rift (Oculus Quest via Link cable) and PlayStation VR arrives on 20th April. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Maskmaker, reporting back with further updates.

VR Platformer Yupitergrad Swings Onto PSVR Next Week

Yupitergrad is a wacky VR platformer that has you swinging across bizarre space stations with plunger grappling hooks! Yes, it’s weird, but it works, and it’s coming to PSVR next week! Digital version hits February 25th and a physical disc version is out on March 12th.

For the most part, this is about as close as we’ve gotten to Spider-Man in VR yet. There may not be any webs to spin or swing from, but it nails the thrill of the moveset just fine still.

In Yupitergrad, instead of shooting webs you shoot plungers out of hand launchers that stick onto surfaces. From there, you can reel yourself in and swing with momentum through the air. Since this is in space, it’s no surprise that gravity isn’t as strong so you can get a lot of air as you fling through the lonely corridors of a Russian space station.

It’s a smooth and fun game that we gave a ‘Good’ rating in our review. The PSVR version should bring over the same wacky and high-flying fun as the PC and Quest version of the game, although we haven’t played it yet. Presumably it should be a good fit since the PS Move controllers functionally have all the inputs you’ll need.

It’s a short game, clocking in at just around 2 hours for a straight-through session, but there are Time Attack challenges to keep you coming back and plenty reason to replay levels after the fact as well.

Let us know if you plan on picking Yupitergrad up for PSVR when it drops down in the comments below!

Yupitergrad’s PlayStation VR Launch Date is Next Week

Yupitergrad

It wasn’t long ago that PlayStation VR’s lineup of new videogames was looking a little bare, with Hitman 3 the only notable exception. That’s beginning to turn around, today seeing Gamedust announce that its swinging sci-fi puzzle title Yupitergrad is just over a week away from launch.

Yupitergrad

Yupitergrad arrived last summer for PC VR headsets with the studio going onto confirm that Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR would get support. That happened in January for Quest while PlayStation VR will see both digital and physical copies made available. It’ll hit PlayStation Store on Thursday 25th February with the retail version available through Perp Games’ store on 13th March.

Just like the Oculus Quest launch, players will not only get 50-levels of death-defying madness to swing through, they’ll also be treated to the new Time Attack mode. This fast-paced section serves up 20 levels to speed through, providing brand new ones as well as reworked levels from the campaign.

Yupitergrad is set on a space station orbiting Jupiter and you just so happen to be the unlucky cosmonaut sent up there to conduct a fateful experiment. Once everything goes into disarray you pop on some unusual grappling gloves to navigate the station and get things working again. There’s just the teeny, tiny problem that this space station’s corridors and passageways are filled with spinning wheels of destruction, water, or just open out into the void of space.

Yupitergrad

In its review, VRFocus found Yupitergrad had its own unique brand of humour and gameplay: “What you see is what you get with Gamedust’s latest VR experience and that’s no bad thing. From the aesthetics to the locomotion, Yupitergrad is a nicely crafted VR game which was thrilling to play at points.”

PlayStation VR owners not only have Yupitergrad to look forward to, but there’s also Neon Hat, InnerspaceVR’s Maskmaker, Winds & Leaves from TrebuchetWraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife by Fast Travel Games, parkour title Strideand 4v4 arena shooter Solaris Offworld Combat.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of the latest 2021 PlayStation VR releases.

Solaris Offworld Combat Gets Physical on PlayStation VR This Spring

Solaris Offworld Combat

First Contact Entertainment’s multiplayer shooter Solaris Offworld Combat launched back in September 2020 for Oculus Quest and Rift, with the studio confirming more platforms would follow. Today, PlayStation VR owners will be pleased to hear that support will be arriving this Spring.

Solaris Offworld Combat

From the team behind PlayStation VR exclusive Firewall Zero Hour, Solaris Offworld Combat is an intense, team-based shooter offering 4v4 action. Matches revolve around a singular gameplay mode called ‘Control Point’, where teams spawn in, pick up items along the way then hold an area until it moves location. Players start with a basic pistol with further weaponry like Grenade Launchers, Shotguns and Rocket Launchers found throughout the arena.

It’s a double announcement today as the Spring launch won’t purely be digital. First Contact Entertainment has teamed up with Perp Games to bring physical copies to retail.

‘We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be working with PSVR specialist Perp Games to bring you the boxed version of Solaris Offworld Combat. We know how great it feels to hold a game in your hands, and we can’t wait for all of our fans to grab a copy,” said Fast Travel Games in a statement.

Solaris Offworld Combat

“First Contact Entertainment is one of the leading VR studios, and it is a great honour to partner with them,” said Rob Edwards, Managing Director at Perp Games. “We were fortunate to play an early build of Solaris Offworld Combat last year and we were blown away by the focus on all-out action and fun. We knew then that the age of immersive multiplayer VR gaming had begun.

Solaris Offworld Combat currently features seven arenas of various sizes and thanks to the recent Squad Update, players are now able to team up with friends rather than being automatically dropped in a group. Just like Firewall Zero Hour, Solaris Offworld Combat will support the PlayStation Aim controller, continuing to expand the list of compatible titles.

As further updates for Solaris Offworld Combat are released including Steam support, VRFocus will let you know

Initially slated for an August 2020 release, that date got pushed back with Perp Games now confirming the launch will take place next month.

If you pre-ordered in 2020 after the initial announcement and you’ve been waiting patiently then the wait is (almost) over. The launch date is now set for 12th April 2021.

VRFocus’ review of Pixel Ripped 1989 said: “Pixel Ripped 1989 is very much one of those quirky VR experiences some will love while others won’t see the point of it. VRFocus is very much in the former camp when it comes to this. Pixel Ripped 1989 offers a unique gameplay experience that’s hard to put down, combining the addictive elements of classic platformers with the immersive stylings of VR.”

Pixel Ripped 1989 and 1995 are available across multiple VR headsets, offering a homage to 80’s and 90’s gaming. There’s still more to come as ARVORE has an expansive series planned covering several more eras of the industry’s past: 1978, 1983 and 1999. As details on these emerge, VRFocus will keep you updated.

FORM and Twilight Path Retail Bundle Available for PlayStation VR in March

Form & Twilight Path

PlayStation VR owners looking for good bundle deals on physical videogames will be treated to a double-bill in March from Charm Games. The studio has collaborated with Perp Games to bring its two surreal puzzle titles FORM and Twilight Path together in one package.

Form & Twilight Path

The first virtual reality (VR) title from the developer, FORM was one of the more inventive puzzle games released back in 2017 for PC VR headsets. The storyline saw players guide Dr. Devin Eli on a surreal journey to unlock the secrets behind a recently discovered ancient artifact, The Obelisk. VRFocus enjoyed every minute in its original review.

2018’s Twilight Path wasn’t quite as surreal, catering for a wider audience with a more character-led experience. Trapped in a mystical spirit world between the afterlife and the real world, you encounter Barque, a talking ship; Singe, a fire spirit who manages to keep Barque’s engines running, and magical faerie navigator Nix. Take a look at VRFocus’ review for more details on this puzzle adventure.

“Charm Games have an incredibly creative and unique take on VR game’s design,” said Rob Edwards, Managing Director at Perp Games in a statement.  “It is an honour to bring these two beautiful games together into one VR bundle for people to enjoy. FORM and Twilight Path are a perfect collection for anyone’s PSVR Library”

Form & Twilight Path

FORM and Twilight Path drop you in to a pair of our beautiful, enchanting worlds.” said Alan Jernigan, Studio Director at Charm Games. “We’re thrilled to work with Perp Games to bring this bundle to PlayStation VR users.”

Both FORM and Twilight Path were digitally released for PlayStation VR in 2020. The double pack will be available to European gamers from 5th March 2021. Perp Games hasn’t said if other territories will follow. For further updates on the latest physical releases for PlayStation VR, keep reading VRFocus.

Swinging Puzzler Yupitergrad Physical Edition Confirmed for PlayStation VR

Yupitergrad

Back in October VRFocus reported on Gamedust’s Yupitergrad would be getting Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR editions. A update on those details sees PlayStation VR owners also inline for a physical version thanks to Perp Games.

Yupitergrad

Perp has a long history of PlayStation VR launches for those players who like to collect their videogames in disk format, with both digital and physical versions arriving at the same time, early 2021. The Oculus Quest version will also arrive at the same time.

“We are extremely happy to partner with Perp Games on delivering Yupitergrad to the market,” said Jakub Matuszczak, COO at Gamedust in a statement. “As “old-school” gamers – we have a very special place in our hearts for physical editions and we are thrilled that Yupitergrad will be the part of the Perp Games boxed games line up.”

Yupitergrad has a charm of its own and plenty of humour to keep you amused as you travel at great speed through a deserted space station, adds Rob Edwards, Managing Director of Perp Games. “Yupitergrad is the perfect game to start 2021 and Perp Games is delighted to be bringing Yupitergrad to retailers early next year.”

Yupitergrad - PSVR

That launch window won’t purely be about new platform support. Gamedust has been working on a Time Attack mode where players can really put those swinging skills to the test. The mode will feature revamped levels and new music to keep them energised. It’ll arrive supporting all platforms next year.

In its review of Yupitergrad VRFocus said: “What you see is what you get with Gamedust’s latest VR experience and that’s no bad thing. From the aesthetics to the locomotion, Yupitergrad is a nicely crafted VR game which was thrilling to play at points.”
