Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul Now Available On Oculus Quest

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul is now available for Oculus Quest.

The horror game is based off the film franchise of the same name and is set in a large spooky house, encouraging discovery of puzzles and scary surprises. It originally released for PC VR back in 2017 and in our review we said it was a solid horror game with a few flaws that let it down.

Back in 2017, one of the big draw cards was the randomization of various scare elements through the game — jump scares, objects and other elements that appeared in one section of the house might appear somewhere different the next time you play. You could never be certain at which point and where you were about to be scared, as things were never guaranteed to happen in the same place twice.

This mechanic will carry over to the Quest version of the game, alongside other key features from the PC VR release such as 3D audio. There’s also the ‘Immersive Movement Role-play System (IMRS)’ which removes all directions and UI elements from the game once you finish the tutorial. If you want the ultimate immersive Paranormal Activity experience, you’ll probably want to turn this option on.

There’s no info on whether any other changes have been made that might address the design and control issues present in the original release, but from a content perspective it looks to be just a straight port without anything new added in.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul is available now on Oculus Quest for $19.99.

OC6: Five Nights At Freddy’s, A Fisherman’s Tale, More Coming To Quest

A bunch of new Oculus Quest games just got announced at Oculus Connect 6.

During the keynote speech today several new games were confirmed for the platform. A sizzle reel confirmed that InnerspaceVR’s A Fisherman’s Tale, VRWERX’s Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul, Space Channel 5 VR and Five Nights At Freddy’s VR were confirmed for the platform.

These are mostly ports of some of the best VR games going. A Fisherman’s Tale is a novel and mind-bending puzzle title that we absolutely adored on PC VR and PSVR earlier this year. Paranormal Activity, meanwhile, is an effective VR horror game with plenty of jump scares. The same can be said for Five Nights At Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted, which continues to top PSVR charts since it released on the headset earlier this year.

The only relatively unknown game is Space Channel 5 VR, which hasn’t released yet. We do know, though, that it’s a VR adaptation of the popular rhythm action game. It’s also due to release on PSVR later this year.

With this latest round of games, Quest continues to fill in the blanks in its library. Better yet, Facebook also today announced Oculus Link. This allows you to tether your Quest to a PC using a USB-C cable to play Rift games on your Quest. Some games that don’t come to Quest natively can still be played on the headset, then, you’ll just need a powerful PC.

Release dates for these games haven’t been confirmed, though publisher Vertigo Games confirmed that A Fisherman’s Tale will release this year. We’ll bring you more info on each of these ports as soon as we have it.

That’s your lot for this week, come back next Sunday for another discount selection when VRFocus will be looking at what Oculus has to offer PC VR players.

The Best Horror Games You Should Be Playing This Halloween

VRFocus has said it before and we’ll say it again, virtual reality (VR) headsets and horror content just seem to go hand-in-hand with each other, like fish and chips or having a lay-in on a Sunday. It may not be for everyone but VR horror has the unique ability to showcase how immersive the technology really can be, with the best content petrifying people more than any other entertainment medium. And with it being Halloween today VRFocus thought this would be the perfect time to highlight some of its favourites.

The Exorcist Legion VR screenshot 3

The Exorcist: Legion VR

Coming from one of the greatest horror franchises of all time, The Exorcist: Legion VR has been developed by Wolf & Wood – Don’t Knock Twice, A Chair in a Room – and comes in five episodes. Each is bite-sized around 30 mins in length and features a detective trying to solve various gruesome cases only to find demonic goings-on.

Supports: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR

In Death

For those who like their roguelike shooters, Solfar Studios’ latest title is a bow-wielding adventure that pulls no punches. In Death features a permadeath, procedurally generated system, so that players only have one life and each run through is different from the last. And there’s the little fact that you need to deal with demons and angels alike.

Supports: Oculus Rift and HTC Vive

Bring to light

Bring to Light

If there’s one thing a horror videogame needs its atmosphere, usually coupled with dimly lit surroundings, underground environments and a few monsters. Enter Bring to Light by Red Meat Games which has a nice helping of all these things to keep you on your toes. Oh, and then there’s the fact that if you have a compatible heart rate monitor you can make the whole experience even scarier!

Supports: Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Killing Floor: Incursion screenshot

Killing Floor: Incursion

For those that like their horror a bit more action-oriented rather than suspenseful, one title that shouldn’t be overlooked is Killing Floor: Incursion. As an elite Horzine Security Forces soldier you to fend off the horrific Zed hordes using an array of weapons including pistols, shotguns, blades and more. Alongside the main campaign mode, there’s the Holdout Mode to battle against waves of monsters.

Supports: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR

Duck Season screenshot

Duck Season

One of the more unusual offerings on this list, Stress Level Zero’s Duck Season is a hearty mix of 80’s nostalgia with dark horror twist for good measure. A wave-based shooter featuring a shotgun and plenty of ducks, there’s much more going on here than simple poultry framing.

Supports: Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Resident Evil 7 - Family

Resident Evil 7 biohazard

It may have launched all the way back in January 2017 and it’s still exclusive to PlayStation VR, but Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 biohazard still deserves a place on this list. Resident Evil 7 biohazard goes back to its roots as a proper survival horror, rather than the more action-based experiences of the last couple of titles. Set in a seemingly abandoned farmhouse, in a creepy Louisiana plantation, it soon becomes clear that there’s a whole family living there, the Baker’s, and as you may expect they’re not exactly friendly to outsiders.

Supports: PlayStation VR

Paranormal Activity The Lost Soul - Kitchen

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul

Another horror movie tie-in, Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul goes for the classic less is more approach putting you in a very scary house with little more than a flashlight. Before long, you’ll discover you’re not alone as you unravel the mystery of what’s gone on in this house; then it’s a struggle to survive the terror that begins to hunt you.

Supports: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR

Halloween Fright Night: 5 Screamingly Good VR Horror Titles

Horror videogames were never that overly scary when played on a monitor or TV screen as you could always see the world around you and look away if things did get a bit too intense. With virtual reality (VR) however the genre found a natural home, able to envelope you in decaying mansions or howling woods, dialling that feeling of fear and dread up to eleven. Every noise or flickering shadow taunting you with the prospect of some nasty beastie suddenly appearing to gnaw your face off. So as its Halloween, and in the spirit of all things spooky, VRFocus has compiled a list of some of the best titles to play this evening to scare the living sh*t out of you. Have fun and remember, don’t look behind you.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard

You can’t really have a list of horror videogames without having Resident Evil somewhere in among them all, and the latest version which launched at the beginning of the year is one of the best.

Once again set in a creepy house, Resident Evil 7 biohazard features the ever so lovely Baker family who are there to make your life a misery – or kill you preferably – as you look for a way out of the madness.

This is the first Resi videogame completely played from a first-person perspective – which ideally suits VR – with players wandering the rooms and corridors of this dilapidated building picking up the usual weapon items and herbs.

Exclusive to PlayStation VR – for the first 12 months at least – there have been a couple of DLC releases to expand the content, giving players plenty of hours of jumps, scares and shooting action for their money.

Resident Evil 7 - Family

Don’t Knock Twice

Coming from British developer Wales Interactive, Don’t Knock Twice is a partial movie tie in with a horror flick of the same name with starred Katee Sackhoff. The videogame doesn’t use much from the movie, just its basic story outline of a mother trying to save her daughter from an evil witch.

Another horror videogame set in and around a dark mansion, you might be surprised to see Don’t Knock Twice on this list as it only gained three stars in VRFocus’ review. But that doesn’t mean it should be over looked.

While relatively short and with some parts of the experience a little frustrating, one thing the studio managed to nail is the atmosphere. As you explore there’s never really a moment where you feel at ease, the wind whistles outside the windows, candles flicker and dance up the walls and there’s one or two jump scares to really spook the unwary.

Another good reason to take a look is that Don’t Knock Twice is multiplatform, available on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR.

Don't Knock Twice Screenshot 10

Killing Floor: Incursion

Moving away from creepy atmospheric horror to something a bit more action packed, there’s Tripwire Interactive’s Killing Floor: Incursion for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Killing Floor: Incursion is a monster filled action romp, that starts off in some dark deserted woods then as the levels progress you travel the world fighting creatures in sewers and on roof tops. For those that like a good scare this may not be quite down their street as the title is more action orientated, however this does mean the entertainment factor is high, with plenty of guns to choose from, bosses to kill and heads to dismember.

Killing Floor: Incursion screenshot

Wilson’s Heart

An Oculus Rift exclusive, Wilson’s Heart is an interesting mix scares, story driven adventure and comic book style aesthetics. It certainly doesn’t offer the same freedom as the other titles previously mentioned – there’s no free roaming – with movement handled by point to point teleportation, which makes it easier to handle for those that suffer with VR nausea.

Players find themselves in the body of Robert Wilson, a 1940’s hospital patient who makes a grim discovery upon waking up. His heart has been replaced by a mysterious device. As players wander the hospital they’ll discover increasingly maddening corridors, environmental hazards, and sinister inhabitants whilst trying to recover their heart and the reasons for this craziness.

Wilson’s Heart features plenty of brain taxing puzzles with several action sequences thrown in to mix up the pace, making for one of the most innovative experiences for Oculus Rift.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul

Last but not least is VRWERX’s Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. This is quintessential horror much like Don’t Knock Twice, with the entire experience making you feel utterly helpless and alone, two ingredients that certainly up the scare factor.

There’s no guns or action like Killing Floor: Incursion just you and a very haunted house. Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul is one of those VR experiences you might have seen on YouTube where players suddenly get scared, crumpling to the floor.

Based on the hugely popular Paranormal Activity motion-picture series the videogame arms players with just a flashlight, as they explore what appears to be an average looking suburban home before struggling to survive the terror that begins to hunt them.

So there are VRFocus’ suggestions. It’s more than likely this list may have missed off one of your favourites – there are a lot of VR horror titles out there – so why not tell everyone in the comments section below. Additionally, if you’ve got an Oculus Rift or Gear VR then there’s a Halloween sale currently going on to save yourself some cash.

Bloody Zombies

nDreams’ second PlayStation VR title, Bloody Zombies, launched last month to significant acclaim. Bloody Zombies is available to purchase via the US PlayStation Store for $11.09 USD, down from $14.99, for a limited time.

DYING: Reborn

One of Oasis Games’ first PlayStation VR titles, DYING: Reborn casts the player as an investigator who gets to unravel the case of a lost sister and the series of eerie events following the disappearance. Paranormal Activity The Lost SoulParanormal Activity: The Lost Soul

The long-awaited PlayStation VR edition of Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul launched back in August 2017, and with it brought a new style of horror to VR. Armed with a flashlight, you find yourself exploring what appears to be a quiet average looking home in a woodsy neighbourhood. Before long, you discover you’re not alone as you unravel the mystery of what’s gone on in this house and struggle to survive the terror that begins to hunt you. This original story, based on the mythology of the massively popular Paranormal Activity film franchise, is built from the ground up for VR. Thumper is available to purchase at a discounted price of $11.99, saving 40% from the typical price of $19.99, until 31st October 2017.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul Coming to PlayStation VR Next Month

VRWERX has announced that the forthcoming PlayStation VR edition of Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul will launch next month. Having launched via Steam Early Access back in March, VRWERX assured PlayStation 4 gamers that the title would see a release for their preferred head-mounted display (HMD) before the summer’s end, and has stayed true to that promise.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul is a virtual reality (VR) exclusive horror experience based on the hugely popular Paranormal Activity motion-picture series. Armed with only a flashlight, the player must explore what appears to be an average looking suburban home in a woodsy American neighborhood. Before long, you’ll discover you’re not alone as you unravel the mystery of what’s gone on in this house; then it’s a struggle to survive the terror that begins to hunt you.

Alongside the launch of the PlayStation VR version will be the release of a new update for the Steam edition. In a post on the official Steam Store page for Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul, VRWERX stated: “Thanks all for your patience. we have been actively optimizing the game and chasing down and killing bugs. We will release a new update on August 15th which should resolve the nvidia driver headache, and the game will also be more optimized so hopefully the game will play better for those who are just below our recommended min spec. we also added a few game modes for you. anyway, good stuff coming soon. [sic]”

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul will launch on the PlayStation Store on 15th August 2017, with the PC update arriving via Steam on the same day. You can see VRFocus’ Nina getting to grips with the ghouls in Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul in the video below.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul To Hit PlayStation VR This Summer

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul has been in development since 2015, finally getting a Steam Early Access Release for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in March 2017. Fans have been awaiting news of the expected PlayStation VR release for some time, and developers VRWERX have said on Twitter that PlayStation VR owners should expect a Summer 2017 release.

The early announcement regarding Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul indicated that a version would be coming to the PlayStation VR (then still referred to as Project Morpheus). Since them, the title has appeared in Early Access form on Steam for HTC vive and Oculus Rift, but there was no word on when the PlayStation VR release would be expected. A Twitter announcement by VRWERX, the developers behind the title, seems to suggest that the PlayStation VR version is still on its way.

The official Twitter for Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul tweeted today “We, Including @playstation are working hard to get you the release date. We promise, Summer will not pass before you get to play.”

The tweet seems to suggest that there have been some difficulties in getting the title on the PlayStation VR. Some fans were not impressed with the vague nature of the announcement, with one Twitter user commenting: “You’ve been saying soon since January when you shouldn’t have said anything ‘til you had a firm date.”

Other Twitter users were enthusiastic to receive any news and were hopeful that the title would indeed be appearing soon on the PlayStation Store.

VRFocus will bring you further information on Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul as it becomes available.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul Could be Hitting Oculus Store This Week

The horror genre has found a natural home on virtual reality (VR) headsets, with the immersion they provide ramping up the scare factor of videogames. One of the most popular is VRWERX’s Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soula Steam Early Access title that supports Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. While most Oculus Rift users likely do use Steam there will be some that only go through Oculus Store, limiting their access to Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul, but that’s set to change soon.

On Steam’s discussion thread for the title VRWERX has revealed Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul is likely to appear on Oculus Store this week, if all goes to plan. Back in April the team said: “We are working on getting up on Oculus store. Oculus has specific requirements for us to put it up there and we are implementing them currently.” Followed by: “We are releasing on the oculus store with the next update, which is coming very soon.”

Paranormal Activity The Lost Soul - Kitchen

When quizzed this week on an update to the Oculus Store launch the studio commented: “Waiting on Oculus. hopefully this week.”

While Steam VR titles do work on Oculus Rift having them on the headsets own store can make for a smoother experience and certainly opens up the chances for more players to dive in.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul has been in the works since 2015. The videogame isn’t based on any one of the films previously released, it’s simply set in the franchise’s universe. Armed with a torch, players need to explore an average looking home and uncover the mystery and horror that’s befallen this place.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul, reporting back with the latest updates to the title.
