Synth Riders And OhShape Team Up For Caravan Palace DLC

Rhythm music games Synth Riders and OhShape teamed up for a five-song music pack featuring songs from Caravan Palace.

The new pack is available separately from today in both apps featuring the five songs listed below from the French electronic band:

  • “Lone Digger”
  • “Wonderland”
  • “Miracle”
  • “Rock It For Me”
  • “Tattoos”

In case you are unfamiliar, OhShape and Synth Riders are both rhythm games that offer a different take on the genre from Facebook’s market leader Beat Saber. The studios behind the rhythm games have teamed up for songs in both games before but this is a fully fledged downloadable music pack partnered with a single artist. Synth Riders made an experience for the Wonderland track while OhShape offers a new stage with visuals inspired by Caravan Palace. You can check out the below preview video showing Synth Riders:

The Caravan Palace Music Pack is available for purchase separately in each game on Steam, Oculus Quest, and Viveport priced at $7.99 for the bundle or $1.99 per song. If you don’t own the games yet, there should be a week-long bundle for both on the Oculus Store offering them together at a discount of 25 percent.

Synth Riders launches on PlayStation VR headsets later this month following the addition of songs from The Offspring and Muse. Check out our interview with Kluge Interactive CEO Arturo Perez in March about the development of Synth Riders:

Will you be checking these songs out? Let us know in the comments below.

‘Synth Riders’ & ‘OhShape’ to Release Caravan Palace Collaborative Music Pack on July 9th

The studios behind VR rhythm games Synth Riders (2018) and OhShape (2019) today announced they’re releasing another collaborative music pack which will bring to both games the jazzy beat of French electronic band Caravan Palace. The joint music pack is slated to arrive on July 9th.

Developers Kluge Interactive and Odders Lab are again bringing a collaborative paid DLC release to their respective VR games, which is set to include five songs from Caravan Palace. Last year the studios co-released a few tracks, including ‘Carry On’ by F.O.O.L., and ‘Delight’ by Jamie Berry and Octavia Rose.

The studios say the music pack aims to appeal to same fans who enjoyed “Electro Swing Essentials” in Synth Riders and all the swingy songs in OhShape. Check out the full track list below:

  • Caravan Palace – “Lone Digger”
  • Caravan Palace – “Wonderland”
  • Caravan Palace – “Miracle”
  • Caravan Palace – “Rock It For Me”
  • Caravan Palace – “Tattoos”

The Caravan Palace music pack is set to arrive on Synth Riders with what Kluge Interactive calls “a unique audiovisual experience” for the track Wonderland, which is said to take the players for “a hypnotizing trip full of dance, mystery, and colorful mushrooms.”

OhShape is also getting a new stage inspired by the signature visuals of the Caravan Palace band, Odders Lab says.

In honor of the Caravan Palace music pack, the studios teamed up with mixed reality software creators LIV to organize a mixed reality contest among its users. More info on the contest is said to come at launch.

The Caravan Palace Music Pack is coming to both games on July 9th, which includes both Steam and Oculus Quest versions. Songs are priced at $2 per song or $8 for the whole bundle. In case you’ve never heard the jazzy-electro mashup, check out one of their most popular songs Lone Digger.

More Developers Reveal They’re Part of Oculus Quest’s $1m+ Club

Until You Fall

Facebook made some big announcements yesterday regarding its Oculus Quest platform and how well some developers were doing. Over 60 titles have managed to exceed the $1 million USD marker with the company naming several of them. Since that announcement, studios have taken to Twitter to confirm which of them had managed to be part of this coveted group.

Phantom: Covert Ops

Some weren’t that surprising like nDreams’ stealth shooter Phantom: Covert Ops. Available on both Oculus Quest and Rift, it launched in June last year and only a month later had achieved over $1m in gross revenue from both platforms. The studio Tweeted that Oculus Quest revenue has exceeded $1 million on its own.

Fitness titles OhShape and Synth Riders are also part of that list. The Synth Riders team also confirmed to VRFocus in an email that since the release of the Oculus Quest 2 monthly active players had tripled and that monthly revenue showed a 9x increase.

This type of jump in figures was echoed by others in the community. Hrafn Thorisson, CEO and co-founder of Aldin Dynamics – the studio behind Waltz of the WizardTweeted: “Our sales on December 25th 2020 were 5x greater than on December 25th in 2019. January 2021 was our biggest sales month on Quest to date. More than 4x greater than January 2020.”

Waltz of the Wizard

Pro Putt by Topgolf and Apex Construct by Fast Travel Games made the cut, whilst two of Schell Games’ projects I Expect You To Die and Until You Fall were successful. Schell Games recently confirmed its escape room title would be getting a sequel, I Expect You To Die 2: The Spy And Liar, slated to arrive later in the year.

Good news all around then, with some of these managing to make their way even higher up the revenue pile. It’s important to note that while Facebook might be using $1 million as a positive marker, for long term videogame development that figure is a drop in the ocean. VR Rhythm Game OhShape Available On PSVR From Today

Get ready to contort your body into some strange shapes, because OhShape launches on PSVR today!

One of the many VR rhythm games released this year, OhShape launched back in February for PC VR and Oculus Quest. We’ve been waiting on a PSVR port ever since, and it has finally arrived.

OhShape is a bit different to traditional VR rhythm games, in that instead of beat slashing or synth riding, you’ll find positioning your body to match shapes cut into rapidly approaching blocks in a slightly strange mix between Tetris and VR music-based gameplay.

Here’s what Jamie had to about the PC VR version:

It’s a smart, straight, no-nonsense rhythm game with an energetic core mechanic and plenty of options to tailor the experience to your liking. There’s a few presentation hiccups and the initial track list could be more inspiring, but these are minor and very fixable issues. If you’re growing tired of slashing or shooting beats in VR, then you should definitely try throwing some shapes here instead.

You can read the full review here.

It’s also worth mentioning that the game has received a number of content updates since then as well. Back in April, the #StayHome update introduced 3 new songs for the Extras library, including a fitness map. A Party Mode was also added in May that lets you pass the headset around between tracks and compete for high scores. Plus, the game has also teamed up twice with another VR rhythm game, Synth Riders, for two collaboration tracks available in both games, the last of which released earlier this month.

OhShape releases today for PlayStation VR on PS4, and is also available for Oculus Quest and PC VR.

Synth Riders And OhShape Release Second Collaboration Track, ‘Carry On’

OhShape and Synth Riders have teamed up once again to release a second collaboration map, available in both games now.

The new track, called ‘Carry On’, is composed by F.O.O.L, and is fully mapped for both games to suit their separate styles. You can view a trailer below.

The first collaboration between OhShape and Synth Riders launched back in June, with the free track Delight by Jamie Berry. This second collaboration actually aligns with another event, the VR Fitness Summit. The summit is a series of tournaments run by the Virtual Athletics League (VAL) across loads of active VR games.

A joint OhShape and Synth Riders tournament will be held as part of the VR Fitness Summit, where participants will compete in both games across one tournament. The winner will need to have the highest scores in both games — not only will that require a fair bit of skill, but it’ll probably be quite the workout as well. You’ll definitely have your work cut out for you if you choose to enter.

The joint tournament runs this weekend and you can find more details on the OhShape and Synth Riders social accounts. If you’re interested in taking part in a different game, you can look at the selection over on the VR Fitness Summit site.

‘Carry On’ is available in both Synth Riders and OhShape now across all supported platforms. Be sure to also check out the recent Cyberpunk Essentials pack for Synth Rider, half of which is available to download for free.

OhShape And Synth Riders Team Up For Discount And New Map

A bundle on Oculus Quest drops the cost to get both OhShape and Synth Riders down to $27.99 as the developers behind the games launch a new song in both titles.

The new track is called Delight by Jamie Berry and is available now in both rhythm VR games.  In case you’re unfamiliar, OhShape and Synth Riders both have fitness element to them with notable differences from the rhythm leader Beat Saber. In OhShape you try to fit your body into the cutout shapes in walls flying toward you while Synth Riders features a system where you dodge walls, hit targets and ride a rail system in solo or multiplayer.

The developers behind the games are also announcing a “Collab Delight” contest which asks players of both games to compete for high scores in the new song. Winners will be announced on July 1st and you can sign up for the contest here.

Here’s a trailer for the new song:

You can also check out the Duo Pack on the Oculus Store here. The price may vary by region but it should be a roughly 30 percent discount compared with the full price of both games. The new free song is rolling out to players on the Oculus Store and Steam as well.

We’ be curious to see how this new kind of collaboration is received by the communities for both games, and how popular the contest ends up being.

Will you be competing in the contest? Let us know in the comments below.

Synth Riders‘ gameplay can easily be compared to dancing where you have to hit targets and dodge walls all in time to an array of music styles. It features a solo mode as well as a competitive multiplayer. OhShape, on the other hand, was inspired by the Japanese TV show “Hole in the Wall”, where you have to match shapes with your body to pass through blocks and punch walls.

OhShape PSVR Port Is Shaping Up, Party Mode Update Now Live

Yet more new VR music game content is here, and you’ll be happy to hear the OhShape PSVR port is shaping up too.

The rhythm action game just launched its Party Mode Update. As the name suggests, this adds a new mode in which players can pass the headset around between tracks and compete for high scores.

That’s not all that’s new in this update, though. Developer Odders Lab also introduces a Practice Mode that lets you replay specific sections of a map and there are four new songs to tackle too. Plus the game has a small visual and interface overhaul and leaderboard options have been expanded, too.

Meanwhile, over email, Odders Lab told us that the PSVR port of the game is progressing nicely. No word yet on a launch date, but we’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date. We’ve seen a lot of great PSVR ports recently, so we’re optimistic this one will turn out pretty well too. In the last update, the game added a dedicated fitness challenge and a beginner difficulty mode.

OhShape remains one of our favorite VR rhythm games, not just for gameplay but fitness too. The game has you making shapes with your body to fit gaps in walls, and grabbing coins and avoiding obstacles in between. Unlike games like Beat Saber, it gets more of your body moving. Plus it comes with a ton of options to make it as accessible as possible.

OhShape is available on PC VR and Oculus Quest headsets.

YUR.watch and the Future of Fitness on the Oculus Quest

Over the last couple of weeks, four fit friendly Oculus Quest videogames were updated to include YUR.watch. A virtual fitness watch that, after signing up, shows you heart rate, squats, and lets you level up by burning calories.

Synth RidersThe full list of YUR.watch compatible titles are:

VRFocus covered Synth Riders when the update happened because it was much bigger than just YUR. The developers added live Sunday fitness classes (which you should try to check out), increased multiplayer room capacity, and added an endless mode for those long workout sessions. All in an effort to keep people fit while they’re trapped indoors.

Now I’m not a… healthy man, by the normal definition. I was never drawn into virtual reality (VR) for the workout potential, or to get a sweat going. No, the main attraction for me was feeling like a badass without having to change out of my pyjamas.

Luckily, Sairento VR: Untethered doesn’t care what I’m wearing as I backflip, shoot, and fling knives at hordes of virtual samurai. But I was still sceptical about YUR. To be honest, it was actually the interface that convinced me to try it.

The virtual watch is just… there. Unobtrusive, subtle, and it expands with a simple flick of the wrist. It feels futuristic in a way that VR always should, so I signed up.

And I regret nothing.

Seeing your heart rate and burned calories is great, but what really caught me with YUR is the gamification. You level up and unlock watches as you play, and I started finding that I went out of my way to exercise. I was shocked too. Instead of opting for guns, I started leaning completely into swordplay and slashing my way to better health.

I tried the YUR.watch in Racket: Nx and Synth Riders. I discovered that just having it there made me change how I played – I made an effort to push the workout further. Maybe it was the gamification, maybe it was just seeing a calorie count, but it was exactly what I needed in this time of isolation.

I am eagerly waiting for YUR.watch to reach other games on the platform, and just having it as an option will make everyone more conscious of just how much they’re flailing for good.

But, if you’re as impatient as me…

Using YUR in every game

While YUR has officially rolled out its watch in the above four games, it’s actually been accessible on a lot of platforms for a while now.  Sadly, the actual virtual watch is only widely available on PC VR, meaning you can monitor your Combine killing calorie burn in Half-Life: Alyx if you’re so inclined…

YUR - Half-Life: AlyxOn your Oculus Quest, however, you can use SideQuest to add in an interface that goes across every videogame or experience you play. So I started experimenting.

Beat Saber was a natural first choice and proved exactly as good a workout as you would expect. Rec Room paintball was a decent workout too, and Lies Beneath wasn’t bad – but it was amazingly immersion breaking.

I’ll be the first to admit that some tests were a little misguided…. It turns out that the one squat you get from sitting down at the start of Epic Roller Coasters isn’t going to be earning me a few extra years anytime soon, but hey – worth a try.

If you’re at all on the fence about trying YUR, or if you’re antsy about staying healthy while quarantined, give one of the above four games a try and hopefully it will do to you what it did to me.

And if you’re looking for other games that will get you sweating through your pyjamas, check out VRFocus’ The 10 Best Fitness Apps For A VR Workout from earlier in the year. Feel free to share the videogames where you get your best workout below.
