Oculus Rolls Out Worldwide Refund Policy for Rift & Gear VR Digital Content

Oculus announced its digital marketplace will now include automated refunds for games purchased on both Oculus Rift and Gear VR platforms—effective immediately and across the entire world.

Oculus says they will refund many Rift content purchases made on their store “for any reason if the request is made within fourteen days of the purchase date and you have engaged with the content for less than two hours.”

Gear VR has a decidedly much shorter three-day window for refunds, giving you thirty minutes of interaction time before refunds are no longer viable through the automated system.

The new automated refund system puts the Rift side of the Oculus Store on par with Steam’s refund policy, which also includes a 14 day, 2 hour trial period.

For Rift and Gear VR, its carte blanche refund policy includes games, apps and many experiences. Not included however is movies, bundles, content purchased as part of a bundle, or content downloaded or purchased inside of apps like DLC and in-app purchases.

Oculus says refunds typically take “no more than five days to review, verify, and process refund requests,” although it could admittedly take longer for the cash to hit your original purchase method. Also important to note is that returns have to be made via the original device you bought the content through, meaning if you share your password with a Rift/Gear VR-owning friend, they won’t be able to request a refund on your behalf.

When in doubt, check out the Rift refund policy and the Gear VR refund policy for more information, or contact Oculus customer service if you’re having trouble requesting a refund.

The Big Releases

Duck Season, from Stress Level Zero
Price: $19.99 (Rift)

The developers of Hover Junkers return with this throwback to an all-time gaming classic. Step into the (unofficial) world of Duck Hunt for yourself and blast away, but also explore the world outside of your TV, with a hint of horror that will be sure delight fans of shows like Stranger Things and more.

Recommendation: Something any Rift/Vive owner should check out.

MasterpieceVR, from Brinx Software
Price: $29.99 (Rift)

Another new way to get creating within VR. MasterpieceVR allows you to create highly detailed 3D models that you can then use as assets in other experiences. It’s a professional application that allows for accessible creation and collaboration.

Recommendation: For those that want to go beyond Tilt Brush.

Bloody Zombies, from Paw Print Games
Price: $14.99 (Rift)

Classic beat ’em ups get their VR debut with this 2D co-op brawler. Take to the streets of London in the zombie apocalypse and punch your way through hordes of the undead. While one player can put on a VR headset, others can grab a controller and play on the traditional screen for some local co-op action.

Recommendation: For fans of a classic genre.

Manifest 99, from Project Flight School
Price: $5.99 (Rift)

This short, sweet VR experience is a surreal journey into the afterlife in which you follow the lives of a group of characters and explore their histories. It’s a strangely disturbing and yet deeply moving piece that explores the use of gaze-based interaction in exciting new ways and leaves a mark.

Recommendation: If you’re interested in VR storytelling don’t miss this.

World War Toons: Tank Up, from Reload Studios
Price: $4.99 (Gear)

Here’s a surprising spin-off of the VR multiplayer shooter. Tank Up is an on-rails shooter that explores more of the colorful world seen on PSVR. It’s exclusive to Gear VR and looks like a highly polished experience.

Recommendation: Something for Gear gamers.

Floor Plan: Hands-On Edition, from Turbo Button

The Biggest Oculus Rift And Gear VR Releases Of The Week 09/03/17

The Biggest Oculus Rift And Gear VR Releases Of The Week 09/03/17

It’s a surprisingly slow week for VR releases, with very little to talk about on Rift and absolutely nothing on Gear VR. It might be time to dig back through the past months and pick out some of the games you’ve missed out on, then.

If you missed the previous entry of this list you can see those new releases here. And don’t forget that UploadVR has a Steam community group, complete with a curated list of recommendations so that you don’t have to waste any money finding out what’s good in the world of VR.

The Big Releases

Crashimals, by Rogue Earth
Price: $14.99 (Rift)

Blowing stuff up in any old videogame is fun, but in VR it’s even better. Crashimals looks a little like VR’s own take on Angry Birds; pilots jump into planes and attempt to take down structures with bombs, and you get to reveal in their demise. It’s a puzzle game at heart, controlled with motion controllers.

Recommendation: This looks like it could be a bit of fun.

Don’t Knock Twice, by Wales Interactive
Price: $15.99 (Rift)

Wales Interactive delivers this week’s dose of VR horror. Cast as a guilt-ridden mother, you journey to save your daughter from a demonic witch. You’ll explore a massive house, interacting with objects to solve puzzles and progress further, with plenty of scares abound. The game stars Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff.

Recommendation: We weren’t so thrilled by Don’t Knock Twice.

The IOTA Project Demo, by DreamSail Games
Price: Free (Rift)

The IOTA Project is only available as a demo right now, but we’d still recommend you pick it up, as it gets VR mech combat right. Explore a colorful sandbox and take down enemies in your giant war machine, swinging its arms using your motion controllers and activating attacks with in-game buttons. It’s a heck of a lot of fun.

Recommendation: Absolutely check this one out.

The Biggest Oculus Rift and Gear VR Releases For The Week Of 08/27/17

It’s a pretty quiet — but not dead — week in Oculus land. There are three notable releases on the Rift side and some interesting stuff for Gear VR. Let’s dive in, shall we?

If you missed the previous entry of this list you can see those new releases here. And don’t forget that UploadVR has a Steam community group, complete with a curated list of recommendations so that you don’t have to waste any money finding out what’s good in the world of VR.

The Big Releases

Blasters of the Universe, from SecretLocation
Price: $14.99 (Rift)

Long in development under Early Access, Blasters of the Universe is now a full game with a campaign in which you strive for high scores as you dodge enemy attacks in VR’s very own take on the bullet hell genre.

Recommendation: A great price for a solid game. Grab it.

Headmaster, from Frame Interactive Studio
Price: $19.99 (Rift)

One of PSVR’s best launch titles finally comes to PC VR headsets this week. At its heart Headmaster seems like a simple mini-game in which you hit balls with your head to hit targets. In reality, there’s an expansive and hilarious game here you should really check out.

Recommendation: Absolutely pick this one up if you want a bit of a neck workout.

ARK: Survival Evolved, from Studio Wildcard
Price: $59.99 (Rift)

The long-awaited full release of ARK takes places this week and it still has Oculus support intact, though we’ll warn that it’s not the most optimized experience. Still, you can explore a full world here and tame dinosaurs while you build structures and survive the wilderness.

Recommendation: You probably already have Ark if you’ve ever shown any interest in it, but if not, there’s a ton of content on offer.

Sea Hero VR, from Glitchers
Price: Free (Gear)

Sea Hero Quest is a really interesting project. It’s designed to tackle dementia by providing scientists with research data as you play. It provides insight into human navigation skills, the loss of which is one of the first signs of the disease. Just trying this out could provide a heap of data.

Recommendation: Absolutely play this, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

The Big Releases

Spark of Light, by Pillow’s Willow VR Studio
Price: $7.99 (Gear)

This is a charming little third-person adventure in which you control a young boy on a quest to save his friends from eternal sleep (or, y’know, death). Guide him around fantastical environments, solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles in what promises to be family friendly fun for the Gear VR.

Recommendation: Gear VR gamers should snap this up.

Kingdom City Drowning: Ep.1 – The Champion, from Pheonix Champion
Price: $4.99 (Rift)

We’ve been looking forward to Kingdom City Drowning for a little while. It’s a new VR series of short stories built inside Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. Set in a hazy, toxic future city, you follow a prisoner’s attempt to escape his hellish confines as he struggles with past trauma. It sounds like VR’s very own Sin City. We can’t complain.

Recommendation: A great exploration of VR and film. Don’t miss it.

Form, from Charm Games
Price: $14.99 (Rift, currently discounted)

One of our favorite HTC Vive games of the year so far finally comes to the Oculus Rift. Form is a short but oh so sweet puzzle experience in which surreal landscapes and objects come to life in front of you. It’s an existential piece that will leave you mulling over its ambiguous story.

Recommendation: One of the best VR games of the year so far. Get it.

Chroma Lab, from Sean Tann
Price: $4.99 (Rift, currently discounted)

This gorgeous VR particle physics sandbox looks absolutely incredible. Play with color like never before as you interact with thousands of tiny particles that you can bend and build to your choosing and then smash into glorious works of art. There might not be much game to it, as such, but we could see ourselves losing hours in it.

Recommendation: Definitely pick this one up.

Cosmic Awakening, from 3D Generation
Price: $24.99 (Rift, currently discounted)

Don’t worry horror fans, we haven’t forgotten you. Cosmic Awakening gives you this week’s dose of VR scares with a creepy adventure set onboard a space ship. Search for your missing crew and uncover the mysteries of what happened as you fight for your life in this scary story.

Recommendation: For those that love to be chilled.

Mortal Blitz Coming to Oculus Home

Sci-fi cyberpunk first-person shooter Mortal Blitz has been available for Oculus Rift via Steam for a while, but soon users who prefer to go direct when it comes to using the Facebook-owned virtual reality (VR) platform will be able to access the title through Oculus Home.

Mortal Blitz was originally released on Samsung Gear VR in 2015 where it received a mostly positive reception. Since then, the title has undergone some significant change and evolution as it has been ported to high-end VR platforms like HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. Developer SKonec Entertainment have gradually introduced new gameplay features to the PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift versions with the latter two receiving updates via Steam.

Mortal Blitz VR PlayStation VR key art

Among the updates have been new gameplay modes and new costumes for protagonist Rachel as well as other features such as a ranking system. The title puts the player in the role of Rachel, who finds herself facing down a hostile alien horde in deep space. Fortunately, Rachel has at her disposal a vast arsenal of weaponry with which to cut down the threat. Dual wielding is possible for twice the carnage, and combat can be made more stylish with finishing moves that can be used on stunned opponents.

The Oculus Home version of Mortal Blitz will appear on the Oculus Store on 25th August, 2017. It is expected to be priced the same as on Steam, at £14.99 (GBP).

VRFocus will bring you further news on Mortal Blitz as it becomes available.

The classic rhythm action game finally makes a move from PSVR over to PC headsets. Rez Infinite allows you to play the entire original game inside VR for the first time, plus it included a new Area X mode that allows for free movement. This is a classic revived inside VR.

Recommendation: If you loved the original you have to try this out.

War Robots VR: The Skirmish, from Pixonic

More well-polished mech action waits for you here. War Robots VR is a quick teaser of what the main series would look like inside of a headset. It’s not the longest VR experience and only uses gamepad, but it’s worth checking out for free.

Recommendation: Definitely give this one a look.

The Tower, from Headroom.one

Released on PSVR two weeks back, Archangel now makes its way over to PC VR systems. It’s an on-rails first-person shooter in which you command a giant mech, blowing up an enemy army with big explosions.

Recommendation: Archangel’s fun gameplay is too often interrupted by its generic story, but it’s still worthwhile.

Looking for an imaginative new shooter for your Rift? Gunheart delivers, taking you to a strange alien planet to blast hundreds upon hundreds of bug-like enemies. It’s only an early access release but we see some potential so far.

Oculus Rift’s Party System Gets an Upgrade

A new update has come to Oculus Home, allowing players of the Oculus Rift to create ‘parties’ in a similar fashion to that offered on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Allowing up to four players in a single party, the Parties of Rift feature operates across the entirety of Oculus Home and is not limited to in-game chat.

Oculus Home Screen on Rift

While the Oculus Home application launched with a friends system it was arguably lacklustre compared to the console and Steam offerings. Oculus VR has made big strives to rectify this situation of late. This latest addition is just the most recent in a long line of updates.

The official line from Oculus VR reads: “Today we’re rolling out an update to PublicTest that includes a new feature: Parties for Rift, so you can talk live with friends. In Oculus Home or Universal Menu, you can select a friend and choose “Invite to Party.” Friends in your party can chat with you across Rift apps, or wherever you go in VR. Each party can support a total of four people at a time and each person must have the PublicTest build installed to use Parties on Rift. Access to Parties will be rolling out gradually over the next twenty-four hours, so if you don’t see it right away, be patient.”

Other recent updates to the Oculus Home application include offering detailed release notes for recent app updates, including the Oculus system software, from the Updates screen in Library, and a quick launch system for all Oculus Rift apps, even those purchased from outside of the Oculus Store. This is of course in addition to the proprietary mixed reality capture system.

Oculus Home is likely to receive further renovation as this year’s holiday season approaches in anticipation of an influx of new users, especially given the recent price drop for Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on Oculus Home.
