Iron Man VR Jetting Onto Marvel Games Panel At New York Comic Con

Sadly, last week did not bring news of an Iron Man VR release date. But! We might still get that news this week.

Camouflaj’s anticipated PSVR-exclusive adventure will star in the Marvel Games Panel at New York Comic Con. That takes place on October 4 at 3pm ET. Joining Tony Stark will be MARVEL Contest of Champions on mobile and that divisive Avengers game coming to consoles.

Iron Man VR has been billed for a 2019 release. If it is still due this year then we’d expect to find out the full release date in the near future. This panel seems as good a bet as any. We had hoped to hear the release date at last week’s State of Play broadcast but no dice. We did, however, get a look at plenty of other upcoming PSVR games like Humanity and After The Fall.

We’ve been hands-on with the game quite a few times ourselves now. We’ve always been impressed with how liberating the game’s flight is, defying PSVR’s tracking expectations. Still, we’ve seen very little from that game that’s actually new since its reveal earlier this year.

The panel won’t be the only place to catch Iron Man VR in New York. On October 5 the voice actors behind Stark (Josh Keaton) and villain Ghost (Chantelle Barry) will join creative director Ryan Payton to discuss the game. There will be a signing following the event, which kicks off at 1:45pm.

Finally, at 12:45pm on October 6 you can go ‘Behind the Script’ of the game in a session with Payton, Marvel illustrator and costume designer Adi Granov and Marvel Writer Christos Gage.

There’s plenty of reasons to suit up for New York, this October, then.

Experience New York Comic Con in VR With Wundervu and SyFy Wire

It’s not always easy visiting big events which is why Pixvana’s XR production studio, WunderVu, has extended its partnership with NBC Universal to showcase this weeks New York Comic Con in virtual reality (VR) via a series of episodes for SYFY WIRE.

WunderVu Sounders-v001

The content WunderVu is planning on creating will allow guests to explore the floor of the New York Comic Con (October 4-7) in 180 or 360 degrees. This will enable them to engage and experience the event as if they were there, with three hosted VR episodes, each offering challenges and contests for viewers.

“Virtual Reality enables passionate endemic audiences, like the SYFY WIRE fan base, to experience ‘being there’ and being part of the fun, and the networks and sponsors are starting to notice,” said Rachel Lanham, General Manager of Wundervu in a statement. “There’s no other medium that envelops the viewer and builds lasting memories quite like VR.”

New York Comic Con

“VR allows us to reach audiences in a dynamic and truly authentic way,” said Matthew Chiavelli, SVP, Digital, for SYFY. “Together with SYFY WIRE’s four livestreams and with the production magic of Wundervu, we’re able to put people at New York Comic Con and other fan events that they might not have had the opportunity to experience otherwise. Helping people to share the experience of events like these in a virtual way is incredibly powerful.”

The first VR segment of New York Comic Con will be available by Saturday evening across all of the SyFy Wire channels – including Facebook and YouTube. Additionally, all the content will be posted to the most well known 360 video channels – YouTube360 (mobile, desktop, or via Google Cardboard), Facebook360 (mobile or desktop), and Google Daydream.

Magic Leap is Getting into Mixed Reality Comics

Magic Leap, the highly secretive and very well funded mixed reality (MR) startup, has made another indication that a consumer device might be on the horizon announcing a partnership with online comic book provider Madefire during the recent New York Comic Con to deliver MR comics for its platform.

Not only did Magic Leap Studios SVP Anthony Williams, Magic Leap advisor Andy Lanning and Madefire CEO Ben Wolstenholme reveal the collaboration during a panel at the event, they also mentioned that the companies had been working together for five years, reports Variety.

Madefire Magic Leap Announcement

While Madefire has already released virtual reality (VR) for headsets like Samsung Gear VR, the MR version of its app will be notably different. Users will be able to put comic panels around their room like they would a painting, either pinned to a wall or floating in mid-air if they so wish.

Other improvements over the VR version will be spatial sound and readability, so lettering will be far crisper than before.

Madefire plans on releasing its full content catalogue on Magic Leap, including novels from Marvel, DC and Blizzard as well as MR platform originals.

Whilst that may sound exciting, unfortunately Magic Leap being the company that it is has yet to make any announcement regarding the actual device. The company has recently revamped its website and released a new video indicating something might be on the cards, but whether that’s this year or next is unknown.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Magic Leap, reporting back with the latest updates.

Next Games Brings The Walking Dead AR To NYCC

Fans of hit TV series The Walking Dead have been eagerly awaiting the chance to get their hands on the upcoming The Walking Dead: Our World augmented reality (AR) app since it was announced by developer Next Games earlier this year. Attendees at the famous New York Comic Con may soon get the chance.

The Walking Dead: Our World was inspired by the phenomenally successful Pokemon Go, following a similar structure of location-based gameplay with AR elements, though with a considerably darker take on the concept.

Next Games have teamed up with Lionsgate to showcase The Walking Dead: Our World, which will demo to the public for the first time at New York Comic Con. Fans will be able to get their hands on the title, which is planned to feature a mixture of objects and characters from the TV show whilst taking advantage of features present in the real world.

Not much information is currently available on exactly how The Walking Dead: Our World will play, so Comic Con attendees who make it to the Lionsgate booth will be getting a surprise as they get the world’s first look at the app.

Next Games previously worked on The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land, and as part of the company’s appearance at the Lionsgate booth, representatives will be talking about how they integrated season 8 of The Walking Dead TV show into the videogame story.

New York Comic Con will take place from 5th-8th October, 2017 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre in New York City. Next Games will be appearing at the Lionsgate booth, #210.

VRFocus will bring you further information on The Walking Dead: Our World as it becomes available.
