The Biggest Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows VR Releases Of The Week 12/03/17

The Biggest Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows VR Releases Of The Week 12/03/17

It’s not a huge week for any of the three PC-based VR platforms, but there’s some interesting stuff to check out across all three platforms including that rarest of things, a new game on the Windows MR platform. Plus: Fallout 4 VR and LA Noire next week!

And don’t forget that UploadVR has a Steam community group, complete with a curated list of recommendations so that you don’t have to waste any money finding out what’s good in the world of VR. We also have a top list of the absolute best Oculus Rift and HTC Vive games at the corresponding links.

Justice League VR, from Warner Bros.
Price: $9.99 (Rift, Vive)

Released to promote the recent blockbuster, Justice League VR features a set of minigames that allow you to take control of various members of DC’s flagship superhero team. Drive the Batmobile as Batman, speed down the subway as The Flash or, uh, fight a big fish as Aquaman. Sadly this isn’t the VR experience to bring our comic book dreams to life; it’s forgettable at best and frustrating at worst.

Front Defense: Heroes, from Fantahorn Studios

Price: Free or $4.95 (Viveport, Steam, HTC Vive “official” support only)

Front Defense was a mostly bland stationary wave shooter, but Front Defense: Heroes is an intense cooperative multiplayer FPS in the same vein as Call of Duty: WWII. It doesn’t have smooth locomotion yet, but it nails the thrill of 1940s firefights pretty well already. It’s free if you bought Front Defense previously or only $4.99 as a launch promotion.

Here’s our review-in-progress for more on the game.

Star Wars: Droid Repair Bay, from ILMxLAB
Price: Free

Easily our favorite release of the week, Droid Repair Bay arrives just ahead of The Last Jedi and might be the best Star Wars VR experience yet. In it, you help fix cutesy little robots aboard a resistance ship. It’s only a short piece but it’s genuinely charming and memorable, especially as you play with the robots like pets. This is one that kids will love.

We liked it and thought it was adorable.

Notes on Blindness, from Nove Lab
Price: $2.99 (Rift)

Tying into a movie release from a few years back, Notes on Blindness is a pretty stunning VR experience that first debuted on Gear VR and now arrives on Rift. You step into the shoes of a blind man and learn just a little of what it might be like to discover the world around you when you have no sight. As far as VR experiences go, this is absolutely one you should be checking out.

Read more about it here.

Danger Goat, from nDreams
Price: $9.99 (Windows)

We’re mostly putting this here because, as far as we can tell, it’s the first game to release for Microsoft’s new Windows Mixed Reality headsets since launch all the way back in October. It’s hard to tell since the story has next to no sorting options at all. A port of a Daydream launch title, this puzzle game has you navigating a goat through a dangerous world, manipulating the scenery by tilting your controller to clear paths. It’s a little on the easy side but not without its charms.

Here’s the Daydream review.

Some interesting new releases on Gear VR this week, including some tie-ins to this season’s biggest movies and a new Oculus Studios game.

We also have a top list of the absolute best Gear VR games to tide you over.

Fail Factory, from Armature
Price: $4.99

A new Oculus Studios game and the VR debut of Armature. Take a trip of the Fail Factory and take part in a bunch of mini-games which you will undoubtedly fail at several times. This looks like a fun little game, great for picking up and playing with low stress.

Price: Free

The Biggest Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows VR Releases Of The Week 11/26/17

The Biggest Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows VR Releases Of The Week 11/26/17

A small, but good week this week. While Vive owners finally get to sink their teeth into one of the year’s biggest shooter (as do Rift owners, after some last-minute confusion), both headsets also get some great new immersive and educational experiences.

And don’t forget that UploadVR has a Steam community group, complete with a curated list of recommendations so that you don’t have to waste any money finding out what’s good in the world of VR. We also have a top list of the absolute best Oculus Rift and HTC Vive games at the corresponding links.

Doom VFR, from id Software
Price: $29.99 (Vive)

id Software’s legendary shooter series comes to the HTC Vive as a gory shooting spree. Featuring remixed content from the 2016 Doom with a fresh story, you’ll be tasked with killing as many demons as possible as you make your way through an overrun facility on Mars. Doom VFR can be a ton of fun on Vive even if we miss smooth locomotion, and it’s at a pretty good price for what it is, too.

Home: A VR Spacewalk, from BBC and Rewind
Price: Free (Rift, Vive)

An immersive space-set VR experience from the BBC and Rewind. Home allows you to explore the International Space Station using your hands to navigate through zero-gravity. It’s an utterly engrossing, albeit short, experience that gives you just a taste of what it might be like to become an astronaut. Look for more from the BBC with the recent launch of its VR hub.

Titanic VR, from Immersive VR Education
Price: $24.99 (Rift, Vive, currently discounted)

A long-in-development educational experience for the Rift and Vive finally hits Early Access this week. Take on the role of Dr. Ethan Lynch, who sets out to search the wreckage of the legendary vessel. Explore the shipwreck from underwater and learn all about the historic events (Leonardo DiCaprio not included).

The Biggest Gear VR Releases Of The Week 11/26/17

The Biggest Gear VR Releases Of The Week 11/26/17

There’s really not much to talk about on Gear VR this week; we spotted just one app that raised an eyebrow and even then it’s a fairly basic-looking shooter. Oh well, maybe next week?

We also have a top list of the absolute best Gear VR games to tide you over.

Conflict0: Shattered, from Black River Studios
Price: Free

A fairly straightforward but polished-looking shooter for your Gear VR, which takes us back to the days of when everything on the platform was a shooter. This just the first chapter of a story, so expect to see more installments (potentially at a price) later down the line.

The Biggest PSVR Releases Of The Week 11/26/17

The Biggest PSVR Releases Of The Week 11/26/17

Just the one release on PlayStation VR (PSVR) this week, leading into the wrap up of what’s been a pretty good year for Sony’s headset. It’s a big one, though, so get your Aim controller ready.

Featuring remixed content from the 2016 Doom with a fresh story, you’ll be tasked with killing as many demons as possible as you make your way through an overrun facility on Mars. Doom VFR can be a ton of fun on PSVR but it’s got some glaring controller implementation issues that make all three of its input solutions pretty awkward to use.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, from Bethesda

The Biggest Oculus, SteamVR and Windows Releases Of The Week 11/12/17

The Biggest Oculus, SteamVR and Windows Releases Of The Week 11/12/17

Lots to get through this week! If you’ve got a Windows VR headset, you can finally get into SteamVR through the launch of the public beta. Elsewhere, there’s plenty of big releases on both the Rift and Vive, so there’s no need to be jealous of PSVR owners tucking into Skyrim VR today (okay, you can be a bit jealous).

And don’t forget that UploadVR has a Steam community group, complete with a curated list of recommendations so that you don’t have to waste any money finding out what’s good in the world of VR. We also have a top list of the absolute best Oculus Rift and HTC Vive games at the corresponding links.

The Big Releases

From Other Suns, from Gunfire Games
Price: $29.99 (Rift)

The developers of Chronos return with an ambitious sci-fi adventure. Up to three players can team up to try and make their way back to Earth by jumping from system-to-system. Each time you jump you’ll risk encountering aggressive pirates and may have to board other ships to save people or blow them up Star Trek: Bridge Crew-style. It’s a lot of fun, but has its fair share of issues too.

Sparc, from CCP Games
Price: $19.99 (Rift, Vive)

CCP Games virtual eSport makes the move from PlayStation VR (PSVR) to Rift and Vive. Set in a distant future, you compete in physical tournaments, trying to hit other players with throwable orbs while also making sure not to get hit yourself. It’s a great physical VR game and cross-play support hopefully means finding a match will be easy too.

Coco VR, from Magnopus
Price: Free (Rift)

Pixar’s latest movie gets a unique social VR app with cross-play between Rift and Gear VR. Step into the world of the movie, meet some of its new characters, create your own avatar and then take part in minigames and activities. Best of all it’s free. Can’t argue with that, right? We loved it when we tried it earlier this week.

Payday 2 Beta, from Overkill
Price: $19.99 (Vive, free for previous owners)

For Payday 2 owners new and old, you can now access the beta branch of the game to play the online bank heist simulator in VR. It’s early, but this version supports cross-play with the traditional version and allows for realistic aiming with the Vive controllers and more. Full support is coming in 2018. We’ll have impressions next week.

Killing Floor: Incursion, from Tripwire Interactive
Price: $39.99 (Vive)

Previously released on Rift, Killing Floor comes to Vive with a new survival mode. Take two guns in hand and fend off waves of demonic monsters. Co-op play is include as-is a full narrative campaign. Not for the faint of heart to say the least.

The Biggest PSVR Releases Of The Week 10/29/17

The Biggest PSVR Releases Of The Week 10/29/17

There are only two new offerings for PSVR this week and they’re both targeted at fans of the creepy-crawlies and spookiness. Halloween was this week, after all! If you missed last week’s releases then you can see them here. UploadVR has also launched the ‘UploadVR PSVR Community’ on PlayStation 4! Join up, find other gamers to play with, and engage in discussions with them.

Also, don’t forget to check out our list of the 9 Best PlayStation VR Games if you need any extra inspiration.

Stifled, from Gattai Games

Price: $19.99

Stifled is a brand new survival-horror game that lets you hear your fear. Every time you make a sound in your mic or take a step in the game world sound waves are sent out that illuminate the darkness and alert your enemies. It’s unlike anything you’ve played before.

PixelJunk VR’s Dead Hungry, from Q-Games

Price: $19.99 (Currently Discounted)

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: In Dead Hungry you have to face off against a horde of zombies. Sounds familiar, right? Well, that’s not all. Instead of killing the zombies, you’re actually tasked with curing them of their ailment by feeding them food. Yep. You can’t make that stuff up. It’s a bit simplistic, but should garner some laughs.

The Biggest PSVR Releases Of The Week 09/24/17

The Biggest PSVR Releases Of The Week 09/24/17

A pretty nice selection of new PSVR games is ready and waiting for you this week.

Voltron: VR Chronicles, from Digital Domain
Price: $14.99 (Rift)

Based on the ongoing Netflix cartoon, Voltron: VR Chronicles is essentially an episode of the show played out in VR. You take on the role of one of the mech-commanding paladins and journey across the galaxy in a polished, if brief adventure. Splendid visuals and authenticity help make up for one big oversight.

Recommendation: Fans of the cartoon will love it.

Light Tracer, from Oasis Games
Price: $15.99

A VR puzzle game in which you guide a young girl by shining a light for her to follow through a picturesque world. Navigate various traps and puzzles as you climb higher and higher. Not the most imaginative use of VR, but some interesting ideas here.

Recommendation: For puzzle lovers.

Chernobyl VR Project, from The Farm 51
Price: $9.99

An intriguing piece that uses a combination of 360 degree footage and computer-generated environments to tell the tragic story of the Chernobyl disaster and show the abandoned area as it looks today. Journey to several sights and explore a place you might otherwise never actually visit.

Recommendation: Definitely one for those with an interest in the subject.

HeroCade, from Lucid Sight
Price: £9.49 (EU launch)

A collection of VR games previously appearing on the likes of the Oculus Rift and Gear VR gathered for PSVR users. Many are from Lucid Sight itself, offering harmless fun, though the real standout is creepy VR horror game, Dreadhalls, which never fails to terrify with its procedural dungeons.

Recommendation: A great one to check out if you’ve been waiting.
