MyDream Interactive’s Reese Holland talks Candy Squad

Candy Squad has been reviewed by VRFocus before, and is a fun simple game for virtual reality (VR) where you are thrown into a world of candy. You take control of a hammer made of candy and have to hit fifteen type of invaders in order to prevent them from reaching the Giant Rock Candy Crystal inside a giant marshmallow. The best way of doing this is by collecting candy wisps that are floating around to power up your hammer.

The higher you power up the more candy invaders you can kill,.You’ll know when your hammer is charged to its ultimate power when a graham cracker and cherry appear on it. You then throw this hammer at candy invaders on their way to the Giant Rock Candy Crystal and the more it’s powered up, the more invaders it hits. A little bit of strategy is needed and quick decisions on when and what to hit with your hammer.

You do all of this without any hands, you simply use your head instead. It’s done completely by gaze. With a scoreboard at the end, the idea is that you try and compete with your friends for the best high score. Reese Holland, Community Manager and Quality Assurance Engineer from MyDream Interactive, explains the best methods in the video below.

Siege Hammer Sets Sights on ‘Children’s Tower Defense’ in VR

MyDream Interactive launched the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive version of Siege Hammer late last year, billed as an ‘entry level’ virtual reality (VR) experience. Now, with the launch of the mobile edition of the videogame, the studio has decided to strengthen the beginner aspect of the videogame, aiming to create ‘the most family friendly children’s tower defense game’ available in VR.

Siege Hammer

Siege Hammer offers a fantasy world in which players will construct towers to defend against invaders, while manually engaging with enemies through hammer throwing. The original intention of Siege Hammer was to target newcomers to VR, but as the audience grows a specific need to concentrate on younger players has emerged. The result of this new found audience is a revision of Siege Hammer for mobile devices which has been rebuilt to be family-friendly and comfortable for extended play periods on mobile hardware.

In Siege Hammer, players take on the role of Blip, an armour-clad hero tasked with the defence of his sky island realms. Using his mighty Siege Hammer, Blip will confront enemies as they attack in waves, building defence structures and collecting resources in order to command control of the landscape.

Promising more than 40 hours of gameplay, the mobile version of Siege Hammer launches today, 8th February 2017, on Samsung Gear VR, priced at $3.99 USD. A Google Daydream version will follow at an as-yet-unspecified date. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest on Siege Hammer and other VR products from MyDream Interactive.
