VR Sci-fi Shooter ‘Seeking Dawn’ to Land on Rift & Vive July 12th

Multiverse Inc., the studio behind VR sci-fi shooter Seeking Dawntoday announced the single/multiplayer game is soon heading out of closed beta and launching on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows “Mixed Reality” VR headsets on July 12th. The studio says support for PSVR is slated to come “later this year.”

Promising a ‘full-length’ VR game, Seeking Dawn is said to offer a 20-hour single-player campaign, co-op gameplay with up to three other players in campaign mode, and multiplayer deathmatches in a “sprawling Survival setting.”

Stepping into the boots of a 23rd century soldier on a hostile planet filled with alien predators and gun-toting enemies, you follow the trail of an allied recon squad to uncover the mystery of why they came (and why they’re gone).

Seeking Dawn is still available for pre-order for $35 on the Multiverse website. Closed beta slots are limited to 500 players. The full release will be available on the Oculus Store (Rift) and Steam (Rift, Vive, Windows VR) for $40.

We haven’t had a chance to step into Seeking Dawn, although gameplay video suggests polished visuals and some fairly Halo-esque gameplay.

Defenders of the Realm VR Hits Steam Greenlight for Support

It’s been awhile since VRFocus listed any Steam Greenlight games seeking community support so for Sunday here’s a recent virtual reality (VR) title to appear, Defenders of the Realm VR by Chinese developer Multiverse Inc.

Mixing up first-person shooter (FPS) mechanics with a hint of tower defense, Defenders of the Realm VR challenges players to defend their base from hordes of rampaging Orcs. Armed with a trusty crossbow – which seems to have rapid fire – players can cut down waves of various enemies, from hammer wielding Orcs and those with shields, to giant armoured beasts.

Fairly standard to start with, but that crossbow isn’t going to stop them all. To help Defenders of the Realm VR also allows players to set multiple traps along the route to the base. These include floor spikes and flamethrowers for the floors, there are even traps for the walls.

All of these cost cash which is earned by killing enemies, the more players kill the richer they’ll become, and the more dangerous their trap layout can become.

The Greenlight listing doesn’t state which headsets Multiverse Inc. plans to support, but the gameplay video does look like it’ll be gamepad based, so Oculus Rift is a likely option. Also worth noting from the video is a brief – a blink and you’ll miss it moment – image of a Gear VR, telling users to press the touch pad to shoot, so there’s an almost definitely supported headset.
