An Early Gameplay Look at Sci-fi Adventure Seeking Dawn

In a few days Multiverse Entertainment will launch its first virtual reality (VR) title for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, a sprawling sci-fi narrative called Seeking Dawn. Ahead of launch VRFocus has been able to show a early part of the experience.

Seeking Dawn

The video starts at the very beginning of the adventure, just as you land on a hostile planet alone – all your teammates are dead – having to head of across the hostile wasteland in search of information to complete your mission. This showcases the single-player side of the campaign – as there aren’t lots of online players just yet – where it’s up to your own survival skills to live.

If you saw the trailer Multiverse Entertainment released on Friday then you should recognise some of the locations. While the trailer gives a glossy, cut scene style look at the early stages of Seeking Dawn, VRFocus’ video goes for a far simpler and grittier approach. So you get to see the videogame warts and all.

Seeking Dawn is set in a war-torn 23rd century where mankind has conquered the stars yet is still fighting with itself. You play a marine sent to a hostile alien world to uncover secrets that could turn the tide of the war. However this is no walk in the park, as you’ll have to deal with enemy forces as well as the planets native inhabitants. The experience mixes up both standard first-person shooter (FPS) gameplay alongside weapon crafting and base building.

Seeking Dawn

The videogame will launch this Thursday, 12th July for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality via Steam, Oculus Home and the Microsoft Store. A PlayStation VR version is in development and expected to arrive later this year. For further coverage of Seeking Dawn, keep reading VRFocus.

New Seeking Dawn Gameplay Trailer Released Ahead of Launch

Multiverse Entertainment’s Seeking Dawn is looking to be one of the biggest virtual reality (VR) releases this summer, offering a massive sci-fi adventure with multiplayer modes, and survival/crafting elements. Ahead of its launch next week for PC VR headsets (a PlayStation VR version is in the works) the studio has released its longest video yet, packed full of gameplay moments.

Seeking Dawn

With a campaign where you can venture out alone or work with a team to increase your chances of survival, Seeking Dawn  features first-person shooter (FPS) elements, base building and crafting of weapons and equipment as you aim to survive the hostile planet you’re on.

The official story synopsis explains: “Set in the technologically advanced but war-torn 23rd century, join James Weston on assignment as he investigates the disappearance of an allied team on an alien world where opposing military forces are rumored to be active. With only the voice of his ship’s testy captain in his earpiece to keep him company, Weston will have to piece together various clues about what transpired on this planet, with his journey taking him from eerie caverns to otherworldly forests and beyond, and uncover deadly secrets that will turn the tide of war.”

Seeking Dawn

“We’ve been developing Seeking Dawn for over two years now, ensuring that we take the time to push VR to another level and provide not just a couple hours of one-off experience, but a fully fleshed out game that would hold up when compared to console titles. We didn’t want to rely on VR as an afterthought ‘gimmick’, but instead use it as a new tool in our arsenal to tell an engaging and immersive story. We’re already hard at work to provide players post-launch DLC and upgrades to enhance replayability,” said Freeman Fan, CEO of Multiverse in a statement.

Seeking Dawn is currently in beta-access until its official launch on 12th July, 2018. Those wishing to play early can still do so by creating an account at seekingdawn.com. This will also save players almost 15 percent on the purchase price of $39.99 USD when it launches on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows MR. Seeking Dawn will be available for purchase on Steam, Oculus Home and the Microsoft Store.

New Trailer For VR Multiplayer Title Seeking Dawn Arrives

With virtual reality (VR) moving towards a more mature phase of development, we’re starting to see larger adventures coming to life, particularly for the high-end platforms such as PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Developer Multiverse Entertainment are seeking to continue and expand upon that trends with Seeking Dawn, which has just seen the launch of a new trailer.

Seeking Dawn has been envisioned as a large-scale VR sci-fi mutliplayer set on a sprawling alien planet which mixes together elements of role-playing games (RPG) with survival crafting.

Seeking Dawn

The gameplay features both a single-player campaign along with multi-player options within the story-driven campaign, with the development team promising dozens of hours of gameplay with gritty combat and the ability to develop and customise characters using the RPG elements.

The crafting elements will include over 50 tools which can be used for combat or survival. While players will need to hunt down wildlife and other resources, hostile creatures will also come to attack your base, so setting up base defences will be critical.

Multiverse Entertainment have promised that Seeking Dawn will be a fully free-roaming adventure, with the extensive freedom of movement that this implies, so in addition to just running around, players will be able to strafe, climb and swim.

While Seeking Dawn has been available in Early Access since early May through the Seeking Dawn official website for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Upon full release Seeking Dawn will also be compatible with PlayStation VR and Windows Mixed Reality devices.

The new trailer gives a look at the updated and revamped gameplay. The development team are hoping to create a new type of multiplayer in which players sync up in VR to take on a planet full of alien threats.

Multiverse Entertainment Gives Seeking Dawn Closed Beta Status Update

About a week ago on VRFocus we brought you news regarding the Multiverse Entertainment’s first virtual reality (VR) title. The sci-fi role-playing game (RPG) called Seeking Dawn. At the time the studio revealed that it was announcing the roll out of Closed Beta and pre-order applications for the end of this month. Now being at the end of January, Multiverse Entertainment have contacted VRFocus to update you with the latest regarding this Closed Beta.

Seeking DawnAn action survival videogame, Seeking Dawn is set in a future where humanity has colonised the stars; players though find themselves in the middle of a war for independence between the warring factions of the corrupt United Federation of Sol (UFS) and the military might of the Republic of Alpha Centauri (RAC).

Junior Ferreira, Digital Media Manager of Multiverse Entertainment’s North American branch has confirmed to VRFocus that further to that previously discussed the developers are now guaranteeing entrance to the Closed Beta for anyone that pre-orders Seeking Dawn.

Seeking Dawn looks set to be one of the bigger VR videogames – at least in terms of length. With a minimum of 10 hours to complete the main campaign it will take up to 100 hours to finish the game, factoring in all the various crafting, cooking, treasure hunting, exploring and other quests that need completing. The title will be coming out on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and possibly other headsets in the future.

Seeking DawnVRFocus tried out the title at last year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event, and even at an early stage there was definite promise. As Peter Graham explained in his preview: “The design and proposition of Seeking Dawn is certainly impressive, there’s a lot going on and the short demo barely even scratched the surface of what Multiverse Entertainment are trying to do. If the title wants to be a great experience for VR users then it does need some polish – and hopefully more movement options – but it does seem to be going in the right direction.”

We’ll give you more information regarding Seeking Dawn as we hear it. Stay tuned to VRFocus for the latest.

Applications for Seeking Dawn’s Closed Beta and Pre-Orders to Open This Month

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) tends to be the main event in the calendar year for videogame announcements. The 2017 show was no different with Multiverse Entertainment using E3 to showcase its first virtual reality (VR) title, a big sci-fi role-playing game (RPG) called Seeking Dawn. Since then new details have slowly emerged, but nothing concrete about when the videogame is likely to launch. The studio has now taken one step further towards that goal by announcing Closed Beta and pre-order applications will be rolled out this month.

Those of you who’ve been eagerly awaiting the launch of Seeking Dawn will be able to apply for the closed beta on 30th January 2018. The website does note several details and terms, including: “10% of all applicants will be chosen at random to participate in phase 1 of closed beta testing” and “Once chosen, in order to receive your closed beta key, you must sign our Non-disclosure agreement (NDA).” As with most closed betas there’s no guarantee you’ll get chosen plus you’ll have to keep quiet about what you’ve played.

Also, there are no details about which platforms the beta will support. Multiverse Entertainment has confirmed both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift would see the first versions – VRFocus previewed the title on HTC Vive at E3 2017 – with PlayStation VR and Windows Mixed Reality headsets also seeing support.

Seeking Dawn is an expansive sci-fi adventure for VR players set on a hostile alien world full of dangerous creatures and hidden secrets. Whilst being a first-person shooter (FPS) first and foremost, the videogame includes a survival element where resources are limited so players must venture out to scavenge for supplies, craft weapons and equipment for protection. The deep crafting system will let you tinker with 50+ tools for combat and survival.

Featuring a campaign designed for both single-player and co-op multiplayer gaming, Seeking Dawn will also include PvP gameplay for up to 20 players. Full movement options will also featuring so players will be able to climb, swim and run through the hostile environment.

Multiverse Confirms Seeking Dawn Heading to PlayStation VR

Ambitious and highly anticipated action survival title Seeking Dawn has been eagerly awaited by HTC Vive and Oculus Rift owners for quite some time. Now Developer Multiverse Entertainment has confirmed that PlayStation VR owners will be able to join the anticipation since Seeking Dawn will be heading to that platform.

On Reddit, the a representative of Multiverse Entertainment confirmed that Seeking Dawn will be heading to PlayStation VR, though the release will likely not be at the same time as the expected HTC Vive and Oculus Rift release. The Reddit post said that the development team have not yet confirmed a release period, though the team anticipate a release date some time in 2018. Beta testing is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

Seeking Dawn is an ambitious virtual reality (VR) title, with an expected campaign length of at least ten hours and a sprawling open world with multiple activities available for players. The campaign will be open for multiplayer co-operative gameplay, inspired by titles such as Minecraft and Don’t Starve. Seeking Dawn will incorporate survival and exploration elements, with players able to engage in crafting, cooking, explore caves and dungeons and look for treasure.

The developers are hoping to craft an epic and absorbing storyline, with a sci-fi tale of a future where humans have set up colonies on other planets. Players will be caught up in a devastating war between the corrupt United Federation of Sol, who run the Solar System with a corrupt, iron grip, and the Republic of Alpha Centauri.

The title was expected to be released in Autumn 2017, but the date has been pushed back for undisclosed reasons. VRFocus previously experienced a preview of Seeking Dawn, and reported: “The design and proposition of Seeking Dawn is certainly impressive, there’s a lot going on and the short demo barely even scratched the surface of what Multiverse Entertainment are trying to do.”

VRFocus will bring you further news on Seeking Dawn as it becomes available.

Preview: Seeking Dawn – An Ambitious FPS That Needs Finesse

Ever since the release of headsets like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in early 2016 one of the biggest gripes players have had with virtual reality (VR) content is the actual duration. Tech demos were prevalent as developers found their feet and what the market wanted. Thankfully over a year later that situation is improving with ever larger virtual worlds appearing. Coming out of nowhere a few weeks ago was Seeking Dawn by Multiverse Entertainment, a huge first-person shooter (FPS) adventure that aims to provide hours and hours worth of gameplay. At this stage – with a release scheduled for the summer – it might just be trying to achieve way too much.

Showcased during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 with HTC Vive, Seeking Dawn is a sci-fi FPS much like standard videogames such as Halo or Crysis, going for enormously rich sprawling environments filled with enemies. For the demo two players teamed up to tackle an early part of the videogame, with impressive cinematic visuals giving a little story intro before you get to control the character.

Seeking Dawn screenshot 1

Starting in a military compound you’re given the basic layout of controls, finding out that Multiverse Entertainment has decided to go for the riskier option of full touchpad movement rather than the safer bet of teleportation. This is a bold move – especially as there didn’t seem to be any options to switch – as not everybody can handle those full movement controls. Whilst movement was fairly accurate there were times later on in combat when it did being to feel rather twitchy, and strafing left or right, or trying to go backwards to reposition on an enemy wasn’t as anywhere near fluid enough to quickly flank or duck behind cover.

While the final videogame will likely have lots of weapons – as well as survival elements such as crafting, cooking, sickness, hunger and oxygen which weren’t available – for the demo the studio gave a duel loadout to try. In one hand an assault rifle, while in the other was a two function shield system, whereby you could hold it as a standard shield to shoot round, or drop a barrier on the ground for you or a team mate to take cover behind.

This sounds great in principle with plenty of VR titles like Space Pirate Trainer offering some sort of shield option for when things get really tough and having two guns no longer becomes a viable option. In Seeking Dawn however there never really seemed to be a moment where you could truly make use of it. When the first battle commences it’s just an onslaught of enemies, and even with a team mate the 10 – 15 minutes of game time allowed was just nowhere near enough to fully get to grips with the combat, with enemies almost attacking from all sides.

Seeking Dawn screenshot 2

While intense it certainly shown what seemed to be intelligent AI hostiles, ranging from standard gun wielding soldiers to smaller floor dwelling creatures that would scurry through the grass to catch you unawares.

The design and proposition of Seeking Dawn is certainly impressive, there’s a lot going on and the short demo barely even scratched the surface of what Multiverse Entertainment are trying to do. If the title wants to be a great experience for VR users then it does need some polish – and hopefully more movement options – but it does seem to be going in the right direction. Definitely keep an eye out for further coverage as Seeking Dawn could well become a surprise hit.

One of the Largest VR Action Survival Games: Seeking Dawn

There are many virtual reality (VR) skeptics, but this years’ Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) proved that VR games are finally becoming more refined and of higher quality. Besides trying to find VR games at the major conferences like the Sony and Bethesda conferences, there were plenty of other VR games out on the E3 show floor which you might have missed. You had to wait an average of two hours to play Seeking Dawn. Luckily VRFocus was able to get hold of Freeman Fan, the CEO and Founder of Multiverse Entertainment for an interview.

Freeman explains how action survival game Seeking Dawn is one of the largest VR games of 2017 with a minimum of 10 hours to complete the campaign. What makes this so interesting is that the campaign also supports multiplayer co-op, taking inspiration from games like Minecraft and Don’t Starve. With crafting, cooking, looking for treasure, exploring caves and dungeons as well as survival elements of sickness, hunger and oxygen, it can take up to 100 hours to finish the game. On top of the long hours of gameplay, Seeking Dawn also has an epic story line. Set in the future where humanity has colonised the stars, players find themselves in the middle of a war for independence, where the entire Solar System controlled by the corrupt United Federation of Sol (UFS) are fighting the Republic of Alpha Centauri (RAC) military. The gaming will be coming out this Fall on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and and might be coming to PlayStation VR and Windows Mixed Reality Headset.  Continue reading “One of the Largest VR Action Survival Games: Seeking Dawn”

Multiverse Entertainment Looking at Bringing Seeking Dawn to PlayStation VR & Windows MR Headsets

Another year and another virtual reality (VR) filled Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has now passed, but the news keeps on coming. Multiverse Entertainment the developer behind upcoming HTC Vive and Oculus Rift title Seeking Dawn has indicated to VRFocus that plans are underway for PlayStation VR and Windows MR versions.

When asked about possible support for other head-mounted displays (HMDs) during an interview at E3, Freeman Fan, Multiverse Entertainment founder said: “We’re also talking to people at Sony and Microsoft to bring the game to PSVR, and Microsoft MR, Windows MR.”

Fan went on to add: “I’m not actually 100% sure that I’m allowed to say that, but everybody knows the headset is coming out and well…we’re talking to them. It’s not confirmed.”

Seeking Dawn screenshot

With Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) PlayStation VR leading the way in terms of headset sales it’s no surprise that Multiverse Entertainment would be looking at support for the headset to maximise sales. Seeking Dawn features multiplayer co-op so if it goes ahead cross-platform support might be an option.

Far more interesting are the plans for Windows mixed reality (MR) HMD support. Recently Microsoft has been showcasing more and more of the headsets – set to be built by manufacturers like Acer, HP, Asus and Dellrevealing what the motion controllers will look like, and that they’ll be part of a $399 USD bundle due for launch later this year.

What hasn’t been revealed is a possible content lineup – the company has shown how the tech works – but no developers have officially been confirmed. While Fan does point out that nothing is set in stone just yet, at least he’s one of the earliest to mention the possibility of support.

Expect more developers to be coming forward and revealing their plans for Windows MR in the coming months – especially with Gamescom 2017 coming up in August – so keeping reading VRFocus for further updates.
