RU77 to Unleash Comic Ultra-Violence Set in 90s Russia

RU77

Ukrainian virtual reality (VR) developer MiroWin already has a couple of shooters to its name, releasing Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR and Boiling Steel over the past couple of years. It’s putting this experience to use in its next first-person shooter (FPS) RU77, a highly stylised arcade experience.

RU77

Placing players in a reimagined 90s Russia (post-Soviet period), the first teaser trailer released showcases a comic-based approach to both the aesthetics and gameplay design. There’s plenty of violence in-store with players given the chance to fight hordes of criminal with a range of melee and ranged weaponry. They’ll be able to use machine guns and shotguns and if they run dry grab a baseball bat or any other nearby weapon to continue.

The action looks fast and frantic, with visceral, over-the-top deaths used to score points, chaining those together for multiplier combos. There’s no gore, however, as all the blood splatter is bright orange and yellow hues, with occasional words like BAM or OMG! popping up – like a scene from the 60s TV show Batman.

No details have been released regarding a narrative other than the Russian setting. Players are definitely cybernetically enhanced as both arms are robotic – but can still be injected with some trippy fluid for some reason. Adding in a bit of old-school technology, players can load up a tape with tunes in the main area and then drop it in their left arm to enjoy later.

RU77

Development on RU77 is still in the early stages with MiroWin yet to reveal when a release will take place. Currently, the trailer lists Oculus, Steam and PlayStation as supported platforms.

Guns n Stories Bulletproof VR new image4

For those who love their cowboy boots and hats, Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR is set in the Wild West, well themed on it at least. Like the shootouts you see in every western, the gameplay is all about being quick on the draw and killing loads of bad guys with your two six-shooters.

Offering a story campaign where an old cowboy tells his grandson tales about dashing skirmishes with bandits during his youth, these stories are somewhat embellished. Like the fact that you don’t merely have access to a couple of pistols but a wide-ranging arsenal, from throwing weapons to futuristic firearms. Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR has a sense of humour throughout, so players will come across steampunk style enemies, flying drones and cowboys riding segways to name just a few.

Gameplay is your standard wave-shooter style, you may not be able to wander around but you can duck behind cover and use the environment to your advantage. If you can’t be bothered to evade incoming bullets then you can always shoot them out the air.

There are a number of titles coming to Oculus Quest in the coming days including Down the Rabbit Hole, The Room VR: A Dark Matter, B-Team and Lies BeneathVRFocus will continue its coverage of the latest Oculus Quest experiences, reporting back with further updates.

Single Player Sci-Fi VR Shooter Boiling Steel Out Now For PC VR

A new sci-fi VR shooter from developer MiroWin VR titled ‘Boiling Steel’ is now available on Steam for PC VR headsets.

MiroWin VR previously released Guns’N’Stories, a cowboy western VR shooter, but now they’re back with a shooter that has more of a sci-fi bend to it. Boiling Steel is a single player VR FPS that will see you play on a colony planet that is “free from bureaucratic, religious and other radical restrictions.” Everything is fully-automated in the world of Boiling Steel, with dirty work done by robots controlled by human’s minds. However, a virus has been launched into the system, turning the robots into an aggressive army against which you’ll have to fight.

We haven’t tried the game ourselves, but MiroWin VR claim that you should get a minimum of 10 hours of gameplay out of the story’s campaign. The Steam page lists support for the Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows MR headsets, so you should be covered no matter which PC VR headset you own. Currently, Boiling Steel is at a promotional 20% off discount price, presumably to celebrate launch, which runs until March 13.

Boiling Steel is also available in a bundle with the developers’ previous title, Guns’N’Stories: Bulletproof VR. Guns’N’Stories launched back in early 2018 and is currently 50% off on its own on Steam, and also just recently launched on the Oculus Quest as well. If you buy the developer bundle, including both Boiling Steal and Guns’N’Stories on Steam for PC VR, you’ll get a 37% discount off the total price for both.

While Boiling Steel is only available on Steam for now, MiroWin VR confirmed that they’re planning to launch on the Oculus Store for Rift in the coming weeks as well.

Sci-fi Shooter Boiling Steel Hits Steam Early Access Today

Virtual reality (VR) developer Mirowin’s first title was wild west style shooter Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR, arriving in Early Access back in 2017 followed by a full launch in 2018. Today, the studio will be launching its next project, another first-person shooter (FPS) but this time with a futuristic feel, Boiling Steel.

Boiling Steel

While Guns’n’Stories was a wave-based shooter with a light story element to keep things ticking along, Boiling Steel will be a much more expansive effort, with a deeper storyline and an extensive selection of levels to play through.

The story takes place in an off-world colony where people go to seek a new future, free from bureaucratic, religious and other radical restrictions. In this new frontier companies and their scientists are free to push the boundaries of technology, which has led to humans being able to transfer their consciousness into robotic bodies to perform all sorts of laborious tasks.

Of course in this technological paradise, some goes wrong. You play a newly arrived inhabitant who just so happens to have awoken from hibernation to learn that a virus has spread through the network and turned the robots into rampaging death machines. There are still robotic shells unaffected, so safely aboard an orbiting space station, you jump into one of them and join the fight on the planet’s surface.

Boiling Steel

For the Steam Early Access release today Mirowin will be making the first half of the Boiling Steel available, which means plot introduction, tutorial to learn the gameplay mechanics and two-story stages offering 30 levels for around four hours of gameplay. A purely single-player campaign, features include nine tools/weapons with an automatic upgrade system for frequently used weapons. There will also be randomly generated biomes to make return playthroughs different.

The studio expects early access to last for around three months, with the final version featuring a further two stages to double the gameplay hours. There are also plans to add a couple of modes adding further variety. A Shooting Gallery will offer the chance to practice with all the tools, while an Arcade Game mode will have 50 missions away from the storyline to fight through.

Boiling Steel supports Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. For further updates keep reading VRFocus.

Yeeha! Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR Rides onto HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

Acknowledging the achievement, MiroWin said in a statement:

“We love games and want to make a VR-gaming enjoyable and widespread. That is why we wanted to create a simple, fun and dynamic game, in which people could fall out of reality for a short time and get fresh and bright emotions that can be experienced only in childhood. Pure fun!

“Our cowboys comes from Hollywood, so they do not waste time for reloading weapons, can dodge bullets and easily deal with hordes fearsome, but invariably comical enemies.

“You will not be languish with the boredom and monotony of traditional westerns, because we added to the game an impressive arsenal of firearms, throwing weapons, and even futuristic weapons.

“Those of you who will not skip storyline will be able to see in the game more than the “regular wave shooter.” (Take advantage of this to take a breath after the heated shootings).

“We are sure that you will appreciate the diversity of locations, the jokes of old Bill and the driving soundtrack of the western and blues rock.

“Yes, with unaccustomed you can get tired legs, hands and especially your fingers, but  true immersion in another world must to respond to all our senses. Isn’t it? “Mobilis in Mobili””

Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR Nears Full Release With Act III Update

Indie studio MiroWin released its first virtual reality (VR) title Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR in September 2017 on Steam Early Access for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. That was followed in October with a major content update introducing ‘Act II’. In preparation to leave Early Access the studio has launched ‘Act III’, introducing the final part of the campaign.

In the update MiroWin has added three new levels, two new weapons: paired Tommy guns “Bella and Talula” and one the studio calls “Mrs. Jumbo”, a couple of new enemies as well as a final boss called Harry. Additionally, there are three new trials: Warfare in the Saloon, Wall to Wall and Obstacle Race, and new gameplay mechanics where players have to protect objects, protect allies and Chase!, where a hero is teleported to a new town’s location in the final round after each shooting.

Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR has a sense of humour throughout, revolves around an old bounty hunter telling his grand kid about his adventures. Just like any old story it’s embellished to make it sound even more amazing and fantastical, and its these stories that players must complete. So players will come across steampunk style enemies, flying drones and cowboys riding segways and more.

In a hands-on preview of Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR VRFocus said: “Mention wave shooters to a VR player and they’ll probably roll their eyes. Titles in this genre need to have something special about them to even be worthwhile. Secret Location’s Blasters of the Universe had it and Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR looks like it might as well.”

MiroWin hasn’t yet said when Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR will leave Early Access simply teasing that further information will be released next week. When that happens, VRFocus will let you know all the latest details as they are announced.

Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR Act II Now Available for Early Access Owners

Independent developer MiroWin today announced that Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR is getting its next big Early Access update, as the second act of the videogame is now available to download. Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR Act II is free to all existing owners of the videogame.

Guns n Stories: Bulletproof VR screenshotGuns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR is a stylish, irreverent take on the virtual reality (VR) wave shooter.  With Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR Act II, players can continue their journey into the strange and surreal world of Old Bill’s memories.

“We couldn’t be happier to share Act II with everybody,” said Michael Shkaredniy of MiroWin, “Not only does the story get even crazier, but with new enemy types, weapons and an awesome new boss, Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR is even better than before.” While the first act of Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR was set against the intense, bright heat of the wild west, Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR Act II will introduce you to the cold, tranquil beauty of the American frontier at night. Old Bill continues his journey to save the denizens of Sintown, making his way to the perilous Casper & Jasper Fort.

VRFocus has previously dived into the videogame, stating in a hands-on preview of Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR; “Mention wave shooters to a VR player and they’ll probably roll their eyes. Titles in this genre need to have something special about them to even be worthwhile. The Secret Locations’ Blasters of the Universe had it and Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR looks like it might as well. So long as MiroWin adds plenty of content during early access then Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR could very well be a hit.”

Guns n Stories: Bulletproof VR screenshotWith new enemies to face, fresh weapons to master and a tough as old cowboy boots new boss to face, Guns ‘n’ Stories: Bulletproof VR Act II will challenge players’ sharp shootin’ skills in new ways. Preview: Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR – A Rootin’ Tootin’ Gunslinger

It’s fair to say that VRFocus likes the odd first-person shooter (FPS) or two as it seems like every other virtual reality (VR) preview or review revolves around the genre. Whilst that’s not necessarily a bad thing it does mean there are far more mediocre titles being launched than awesome standout videogames like Raw Data or Robo Recall. One of the latest to land on Early Access for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift is Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR from MiroWin, a comedy/wild west wave shooter with an addictive charm.

So what’s on offer? Well for this initial release MiroWin has three levels available with a sizeable boss fight at the end. You can play any of them straight from the off but that would be missing part of the storyline that’s so interwoven into the levels. You see it’s a grandfather talking about his past as a bounty hunter to his grandson, and naturally as he tells his tales they become more and more embellished which in turn changes how the videogame is played and what weapons you have at your disposal.

Guns n Stories: Bulletproof VR screenshot 1

To begin with you have one pistol to hand, then two. As the stages progress the grandfathers story becomes an even taller tale and you then get some machine guns – awesome looking ones at that – and by the end you’re suddenly equipped with this massive gun that has a combined machine gun and grenade launcher. It’s a novel approach to introducing gameplay elements, keeping you immersed in the action and the story at the same time.

The actual battles in Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR are great fun – you almost forget you’re playing a wave shooter – with enemies coming in two basic forms, ranged and melee. The melee characters will try and rush you, with a few decent headshots dispatching them fairly quickly. What’s nice about the enemies that use guns is that they also use cover – way too many wave shooters just go for the horde attack approach – so you can at least have a partial gun battle even if they are AI opponents. Shooting their hats off before getting that headshot is a novel touch but Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR has something else to add, shooting enemies bullets. Yes you can dodge out the way, or even knock them away with the gun, but shooting them out the air – if you’re really lucky towards another hostile – is a simple yet very satisfying mechanic.

Guns n Stories: Bulletproof VR screenshot 2

And these cartoon style physics are present throughout. When enemies are killed they’ll flail around like ragdolls, the guns have infinite ammo so there’s no reloading – the machine guns do have a clip but it’s automatic. It’s comedic without being too overly absurd.

Mention wave shooters to a VR player and they’ll probably roll their eyes. Titles in this genre need to have something special about them to even be worthwhile. The Secret Locations Blasters of the Universe had it and Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR looks like it might as well. So long as MiroWin adds plenty of content during early access then Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR could very well be a hit.
