Blood & Truth Headlines Top Picks From The Incredible PSVR Summer Sale

The PSVR Summer Sale (or Sales) is on, and there are some incredible deals going.

Summer’s heatwave might not be the best time to jump into VR. It’s way too hot for Beat Saber and your headset’s going to get all sweaty and smelly. But some of these prices will make you want to block out the sun and bathe in the rays of a screen meer millimeters away from your eyes instead. I’m sure that gives you just as many vitamins and whatnot, right? No?

Anyway, both the US and EU PlayStation Store territories are hosting hefty discounts.

The US side offers some hearty deals on the likes of Borderlands 2 VR, Arizona Sunshine and more. There isn’t much that’s truly show-stealing, but it’s a good opportunity to pick up some of the better titles you might have missed over the past few years.

To be honest, though, the EU summer sale puts the US to shame. Recent hits like Blood And Truth have already had their prices slashed by a good margin. Meanwhile, some of VR’s core staples like Superhot VR are down to some of the lowest prices we’ve seen them go. We’ve rounded up our list of top picks below, but be sure to get a good look through your respective store too. If you’ve got a PS Plus account then make sure to look out for some extra discounts too.

Just remember to keep a cold glass of water near you’re if you’re about to start putting in Firewall all-nighters.  Maybe invest in a fan, too.

10 Amazing ‘Power Trip’ VR Games That Make You Feel Like A Badass

10 Amazing ‘Power Trip’ VR Games That Make You Feel Like A Badass

Life is hard. Sometimes things are completely out of your control and you just need a release. For these times it’s important to find a game that puts you in control, one that turns you into a superhero, or an action movie star. Something that takes who you are and just ramps it up, lets you live out your wildest dreams and just take some fools apart. Well, this is exactly what these VR games do.

In one way or another they turn you into something completely inhuman, the star of your very own film. So, suit up, put on your VR headset, and get ready to let loose as a true badass.

Superhot (Our Review)

Superhot is as much a puzzle game as it is a shooter. Time only moves when you do. This means that if a bullet is flying at you then you have time to figure out what to do. Want to know the coolest possible answer to a bullet flying at your face? Cut it in half with a knife then throw the knife at the guy who shot at you. But wait, what if you caught his gun and shot the guy aiming a shotgun at you? Superhot has a great story, a wonderful art style, and is quite simply one of the best games to play if you just need to mess something up.

Robo Recall (Our Review)

Pretty much the only thing cooler than cutting a bullet in half is catching it and throwing it back at the person who shot you. Robo Recall has its own version of time slowing down, mostly when you’re moving though. This allows you to teleport next to an enemy in order to deal with them and then take your time deciding how. The guns themselves feel fantastic to use; each one re-materializes in its holster instead of reloading, so you just throw the empty one at an enemy. The best bit though, you can actually just grab enemies. You can pull apart the robots piece by piece, or you can use them as a shield against a hail of gunfire.

Blade and Sorcery (Impressions)

Imagine, if you will, a world where you are an all-powerful wizard warrior. Not only can you shoot lightning out of your hands, frying anyone in your path on the spot, but you are an accomplished swordsman too. But wait, there’s more, you can use your mind to wield these weapons at a distance. Blade and Sorcery turns you into a spell-casting weapon-wielding badass. You can throw a dagger at an enemy, call it back to you using your mind, then hack away at someone else as it passes them. You can holster four weapons at once as well as picking up others as you go, you just become a medieval war machine and it’s great.

Beat Saber (Our Review)

I’m pretty sure everyone has heard of Beat Saber at this point. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it’s the killer app for VR. The must-play, the system seller. In it you wield two lightsabers and have to slash at the incoming blocks in order to keep the song going. This isn’t a power fantasy like the others, I don’t think anyone has ever dreamed of doing this. Nevertheless, managing to 100% a song hits some weird primal score-achieving urge that so many of us have. The fact that you can play so many different songs just makes the experience all the more exhilarating. Put simply, the rush that Beat Saber gives you is hard to beat.

Gorn (Impressions)

Sometimes you just want to hit things really hard and have a comically large impact when you do. Gorn is a game all about cavemen smashing the heads, arms, and pretty much anything else off of each other. Gorn is the most violent game on this list, but it is also the most comically over-the-top. Each battle starts off with you trying to be tactical and quickly descends into you flailing your arms around like Elmo. There are a huge variety of weapons and you can even just use your fists if you want to. It satisfies the Neanderthal in all of us.

Sairento (Our Review)

As kids many of us argued over whether it was cooler to be pirates or ninjas. People who argued that pirates were cooler got Sea of Thieves. Those of us who were right – and this isn’t an argument – got Sairento VR. Sairento VR puts you in the shoes of a ninja in a cyberpunk future, it gives you wall-running, acrobatics, and a huge array of weapons. You can deflect bullets with a katana in one hand while shooting a pistol in the other. It turns you into a tornado of destruction in a balletic display of power that would make Neo jealous. Just go play it. PS: Ninjas rule, pirates drool.

The Unspoken (Our Review)

Harry Potter is great and all but what if it was full of a bit more grit? The Unspoken gives you all the power of a wizard, with none of the worry of a wand. With a simple flick of your wrist you can unleash magical destruction upon any that stand in your way. The controls are so simple that it all becomes second nature as you slip into this gothic world and either fight off demons or duel with a fellow mage. It looks great, feels great, and even has multiple classes to try out. You’ll find the one that suits you and then you can get to the thing we are all here for: feeling like an absolute boss.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR (PC Review, PSVR Review)

So, hear me out, Skyrim, but in VR. That means you can swing a sword around, fire out shards of ice, shout really loud at things, and just generally become a god-like being. The thing that changes Skyrim in VR is the sense of scale. Not a dragon pun. At least not on purpose. A simple spider is suddenly the same size as you, you don’t get that feeling playing the game normally. Only in VR do you truly become the Dragonborn, only here can you really play the part and become the strongest in this world. Plus, who doesn’t love shouting so loud it knocks other stuff back?

Windlands 2 (Our Review)

Sometimes you just need to move, to feel like you could really escape anything that is bothering you. Walking is fine, running is hard, flying would be nice, but there is something about swinging around like Spider-Man that just feels better. Windlands 2 lets you live out this fantasy, in a beautiful world filled with strange fauna you can swing through the giant alien trees. You can almost feel the wind rushing past you as you swing around. You can always just let yourself fall only to catch yourself at the last moment. The attacks are awesome too, you bring your hands together and a bow materializes out of nothing. The whole thing just has a brilliant sense of wonder, a lovely bit of escapism.

Megaton Rainfall (Our Review)

Being so overpowered that you can accidentally take down a city block is a weird fantasy, one tinged with worry. Nevertheless, Megaton Rainfall turns you into exactly this, one so powerful that a single distraction can level buildings in an instant. You can fly fast enough to break the sound barrier, rise up into the atmosphere, crash through your enemies and even shout bolts of energy at them. It’s the closest you can come to being Superman in VR, and even if you think he is a boring hero, becoming him is an entirely different experience.

The Biggest Rift, Vive and Windows VR Releases Of the Week 08/05/18

The Biggest Rift, Vive and Windows VR Releases Of the Week 08/05/18

A healthy week of intriguing releases awaits you today. We’ve got the long-awaited VR port of a great superhero game, the latest from the developer of Raw Data and a frankly out of this world surrealist experience.

Megaton Rainfall, from Pentadimensional Games
Price: $15.99 (Rift, Vive)

The excellent Superman simulator finally makes its way to PC VR. In Megaton Rainfall you must defend a procedurally generated planet from an alien invasion. Rather than having your own health bar, though, you must prevent as much damage to the cities as possible by killing enemies quickly with carefully-aimed shots. It’s a little dizzying but absolutely exhilarating.

Electronauts, from Survios
Price: $19.99 (Rift, Vive)

Sprint Vector developer Survios returns with an entirely different type of experience. Electronauts is a VR music mixer that uses smart interactions to produce a strikingly natural experience. The music might not be suited to your tastes but it’s hard not to feel the groove as you start playing around with this audible feast.

Museum of Symmetry, from Casa Rare
Price: Free (Vive)

This has to be one of the most unique VR experiences we’ve seen in a while. Journey through the mind of cartoonish Paloma Dawkins in this surreal tour of some incredible animations. It’s the kind of thing you should definitely check out when you have a spare 10 minutes of VR time.

Futurejam, from 2049VR
Price: $9.99 (Rift, Vive, Windows VR)

This is basically Beat Saber meets Guitar Hero, except you’ve got drum sticks instead of lightsabers. There’s really no other way to describe it. If you like music-based rhythm games and you like VR, then you’ll probably enjoy this one. It’s an Early Access launch right now with licensed tracks from “real-life house and trance artists” that will be expanded more over time.

Megaton Rainfall Coming to Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in August

Ever wanted to be a superhero in virtual reality (VR)? While Oculus Rift owners are patiently waiting for the launch of Marvel Powers United VR to appear this week, PlayStation VR owners have been able to enjoy their own version Megaton Rainfall since late last year. Today, developer Pentadimensional Games has announced a version for PC headset will be arriving next month.

megaton rainfall 1

Via a tweet the studio confirmed that Megaton Rainfall will be coming to Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on 9th August, coming to both Oculus Store and Steam. Also on that day the Nintendo Switch will be getting a version while XBox One will see a release on 5th September.

When Megaton Rainfall launched last year for PlayStation VR and a little while later for standard PC desktop monitors the title only supported DualShock 4 or other normal gamepad controllers. The tweet also mentions full gesture control and PlayStation Move support, to give that added feeling of flying around the planet.

A free-roam mode will also be included in an update next month, giving players freedom to explore. Just like the PlayStation VR Move support however, there’s no confirmed date for these being released in August.

Megaton Rainfall

Megaton Rainfall is a first-person superhero videogame in which players must fend off a global alien invasion, all by themselves. They’ll be able to unleash lethal energy blasts at foes whilst flying around the world, but care needs to be taken to avoid inflicting too much collateral damage, destroy too many buildings and it’s game over.

There’s no word on how much Megaton Rainfall will cost on Oculus Store but it already retails for £11.99 GBP on Steam. For any further updates from Pentadimensional Games, keep reading VRFocus.

‘Megaton Rainfall’ is Getting Rift & Vive Support Next Month, PS Move Support for PSVR

Megaton Rainfall (2017), the superhero game from Pentadimensional Games that lets you become an indestructible, interdimensional superbeing, is finally getting a VR mode for PCVR users next month. To boot, PSVR users are getting a free patch that will include PS Move support.

Pentadimensional today announced the news via a tweet, saying that Megaton Rainfall will be landing on the Oculus Store (Rift), SteamVR (Vive, Rift), Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One with 4K support for Xbox One X in August.

SteamVR and Oculus Store versions will release August 9th. The PS Move patch doesn’t have a specific launch date at the time of this writing.

Megaton Rainfall first launched as a timed exclusive on PS4 and PSVR back in October 2017. Although it later launched on Steam only a short while later, the version was for traditional monitors only, and didn’t include VR support. Not only are owners of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive going to get a chance at the well-received superhero title, but according to Pentadimensional’s tweet, all VR platforms will be getting full motion control support too. At the time of last year’s PSVR launch, the only supported controller was DualShock 4.

Superhero Sim Megaton Rainfall Finally Gets PC VR, Move Support Next Month

Superhero Sim Megaton Rainfall Finally Gets PC VR, Move Support Next Month

One of the most interesting PlayStation VR (PSVR) games of 2017 is finally coming to the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Pentadimensional Games’ Megaton Rainfall will release on both headsets on August 9th, it was confirmed today. The game has been available on PC without VR support since last November, but the PS4 version always packed optional VR support. Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions of the game will also be launching later this year.

In Megaton Rainfall you play a Superman-like hero that zips around a procedurally generated world fending off an alien invasion. While the game gives you immense power, it teaches you to use it responsibly; instead of taking any damage yourself you’re judged by how much damage is done to the city you’re currently protecting. Bad guys come in all shapes and sizes and will try to smash as many targets as possible before you take them down, and your own attacks can topple buildings too.

It makes for an interesting spin on the superhero genre and one you should definitely try. “Megaton Rainfall may not be the most immersive VR experience out there, but it’s a heck of a lot of fun to play and often jaw-dropping to behold,” we said in our 8/10 review. “It’s a new type of superhero game that comes up with an elegant solution to the problem of giving the player too much power and is always waiting to show you new ideas. In terms of sheer playability, it’s one of the best games to hit PSVR in a while.”

The PC version of the game will be enhanced with gesture controls for the Oculus Touch and Vive controllers, while a patch will also bring PlayStation Move support to PSVR later on in August.

In a release announcing the news, Pentadimensional also confirmed that the game has sold nearly 100,000 units since launch nine months ago.

The Best Oculus Rift Games Coming in 2018

The end of a year is a good point to take a look back and see what worthy contenders have emerged from the world of virtual reality (VR) to impress the world, which is what VRFocus have been doing with its features on Best PlayStation VR titles as well as the Best Games you’ve Never Played series. With 2018 just begun, though, it’s time to look forward and see what exciting properties are due to appear.

The Oculus Rift was arguably the device that kicked off the entire modern era of VR, and as such has its own dedicated fans as well as some new owners who might have picked one up over the holidays. So here are some upcoming experiences that Oculus Rift users can look forward to.

Megaton Rainfall – Pentadimensional Games

Previously released on PlayStation VR, Megaton Rainfall lets the player take the role of a superhero trying to save the city from an alien invasion. As any comic reader knows, however, with great power comes great responsibility, and you need to ensure you don’t inadvertently destroy the city you are trying to save.

Megaton Rainfall is already on Steam, with Oculus Rift support expected to arrive sometime in 2018.

Brass Tactics – Hidden Path Entertainment

Using a range of inspiration including classic table-top wargames and the clockwork opening credits to Game of Thrones, Brass Tactics wears its love of the clockpunk and steampunk aesthetic on its sleeve as it allows players to control toy soldiers, multi-legged tanks and clockwork wasps in fast-paces RTS gameplay

Brass Tactics is due to launch as an Oculus Rift exclusive on February 28th, 2018.

ARK Park – Snail Games

ARK Park is a VR spin-off of the successful ARK: Survival Evolved. The title puts the player on a lost island full of dinosaurs. Players will need to create a home base, gather resources and learn how to tame the dinosaurs and co-operate with them in order to survive. The experience is designed to combine education about dinosaurs with the action-based gameplay.

ARK Park will be heading to Oculus Rift along with HTC Vive and Playstation VR in Spring 2018.

Stifled – Gattai Games

Stifled offers a truly unique gameplay experience. Trapped in the dark with dangerous creatures all around you, the only way to find your way is trough sound. Utilising a microphone, Stifled picks up the sounds you make and uses an ‘echolocation’ effect to show your surroundings – but beware, for enough sound can also draw the enemies towards you.

Stifled will be available on Oculus Rift sometime 2018.

Pixel Ripped 1989 – Pixel Ripped Inc.

This title has a troubled history, failing a Kickstarter back in 2015 before re-surfacing with a new publisher in ARVORE Immersive. 80’s nostalgia and its distinctive retro stylings make it compelling, as players are cast in the role of a vidoegame-obsessed girl who must try and complete a game on her handheld without getting caught.

A firm release date for Pixel Ripped 1989 has not been set, but it is expected sometime in 2018.

Beat Saber – Hyperbolic Magnestism

While there are a few rhythm-based titles in VR, there are few that really stand out. The developer behind Beat Saber is trying to change that, by offering a style of gameplay that has been described as ‘Fruit Ninja meets Guitar Hero‘. Users need to slash the music beats, represented by cubes, in time to the music, whilst simultaneously dodging obstacles.

Beat Saber is expected to launch on Oculus Rift in Q1 of 2018.

Transference – Ubisoft

Transference aims to explore the depths of the human experience in a dark psychological thriller that lets the player look into the minds of the members of a broken family. Players can wander around a dream-like representation of the family home to collect secrets, and see if it is possible to repair the damage that separates them.

Transference will be heading to Oculus Rift in Spring 2018.

Marvel Powers United VR – Sanzaru Games

The successful Marvel cinematic universe has meant a big boom in interest in superheroes, and Marvel are keen to take advantage of it by offering players the chance to step into the shoes of Marvel heroes like Rocket Racoon, Thor and The Hulk. Several characters from the Marvel comics stable heave been revealed, including lesser-known figures such as Black Bolt and Crystal, with more yet to come.

Marvel Powers United VR is due to launch on Oculus Rift sometime in 2018.

Steam Version of ‘Megaton Rainfall’ Won’t Have VR Support Until Sometime in 2018

Megaton Rainfall (2017) for SteamVR headsets isn’t here yet, and according to Pentadimensional Games, it won’t be until sometime in 2018.

The superhero game that lets you become an indestructible, interdimensional superbeing launched on PSVR with the understanding that it would be a timed exclusive. Upon seeing a recent update to the Steam page, which appended a new launch date of November 17th, it was thought that PSVR exclusivity was coming to a quick end. Unfortunately for owners with SteamVR-compatible headsets, VR support isn’t a part of the November 17th launch date and won’t arrive until later in 2018.

Main developer Alfonso del Cerro confirmed it with Road to VR earlier today.

As the result of 5 years of hard work by del Cerro, Megaton Rainfall does a lot for such a modest title. Currently sitting at a strong [4.5/5] on PSN, it’s poised to offer a quick but memorable experience that lets you zip around the world, destroying targets that should (and shouldn’t) be obliterated.
