New Speakers, New Panellists, New Games – Last Chance To Get Tickets For The Post Gamescom XR Review!

We are but a day away from our Post Gamescom XR Review, which is taking place in London this Thursday at The Realities Centre’s venue at Huckletree West. The review is, among all things, a chance for people to get together, try some virtual reality (VR) and discuss with those working with VR what they are doing and VR’s videogaming path coming out of Gamescom and all that happened there.

You can sign up here incidentally and get a ticket.

Huckletree West (1)[2]Of course you’re like as not aware of things already mentioned on the site which will be in attendence, but as with all events some things change so we have some changes to the card (as it were) to inform you of. The bad news is that Firesprite and their VR videogame The Persistence will no longer be able to attend which is a great shame. Don’t worry though as we’ve some new items to announce as well!

First up is confirmation of one of our talks for the event. Dave Raynard, the CEO of Dream Reality Interactive (DRI) will be talking to attendees about the life of a young development studio in The Terrible Twos: The DRI Story So Far.

“Dream Reality Interactive is two years old. DRI have had the opportunity to work on some amazing projects – and still be in business! In this talk, Dave will speak about their journey and reflect on what went well and where they could have improved.”

DRI will also be at the event showing of their VR title Arca’s Path VR of course, and Dave Raynard will also be contributing to the panel at the end of the evening.
Arca's Path keyArt

Also taking part in the panel will be Sam Watts of Brighton-based developer make[REAL], a familiar face to the VR talk circuit and to VRFocus readers with his recent developer diaries about the studio’s project Pastimes for Pirates. Watts will also be showing off the studio’s hit party game title Loco Dojo at the event. Attendees will be able to adventure into a whimsical world overseen by the mysterious Grand Sensei. Can you stand up to his ‘Table of Trials’?

LocoDojo Screenshot 3_RockyDesertOne more member of the Post Gamescom panel has also been announced: Kish Hirani. The CTO of Terra Virtua, Hirani has undertaken roles at Acclaim, BBC Multimedia, THQ, Microsoft and at Sony as their Head of Developer Services, running the PlayStation developer technology services division. Hirani is also a former Chair of BAME in Games and a Board member of Women in Games, so will no doubt have much to say on VR’s direction as we begin to look past 2018 and into 2019.

Our final announcement for now is that we will also be joined on the day by Tara Reddy and Sam Weekes, the co-Founders of LoveShark. Who will be showing off their forthcoming augmented reality (AR) drawing-based videogame LaserDRAW. Look out for them on the day.

LaserDraw - ScreenshotWe’re still awaiting the confirmation of more developers and speakers so look out for more news. But before that act fast if you want to check out everything at the event tomorrow!

Loco Dojo Dev Secures Investment To Expand Operations

Loco Dojo Dev Secures Investment To Expand Operations

Make Real, the developer of madcap VR party game, Loco Dojo, has secured equity investment to expand its operations in VR.

The company declined to reveal exactly how much funding it raised in a round led by M&A Advisory, but did note that it would use the money to expand its R&D team to build prototypes and develop creative products. More money will also go to marketing & PR for the company as well as exploring more applications in the education industry.

Make Real develops and publishes games like Loco Dojo along with working with well-known brands like McDonalds, providing interactive, promotional VR experiences for them.

A few months back we reported that Make Real was now working on its next game, Pastime for Pirates, which is a swashbuckling-themed social hub for playing minigames and chatting with friends. At the time we noted the game was seeking funding. Speaking to UploadVR, Sam Watts, Director of Immersive Technologies at Make Real, noted that the investment the company secured today was unrelated to Pirates as it’s an “in-house” effort.

“However it does mean with the creation of the R&D / rapid prototyping / own-IP development team, we are able to continue working into the vertical slice of PfP to bring it to a state that is more likely to receive publisher interest,” Watts added. “It should be noted that PfP is just one of many own-IP prototypes Make Real has created, within the consumer gaming and enterprise training spaces, either for internal development or external funding opportunities, more details of which will be made available in the coming months.”

Make Real Secures Investments for Immersive Technology Learning

Immersive technology such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) is increasingly being used for training and education applications. This growth in use means that there are a number of opportunities in this area for businesses such as Make Real, a company wich is planning to use new investment to fuel further growth.

Brighton-based Make Real has raised an undisclosed amount of funding through an investment round led by M&A Advisory, with plans to use the funding to hire new talent and further develop immersive e-learning products.

The investment money will be focussed on three core area. The first involves building an R&D team to focus on prototyping and product development. The second area will involve marketing and PR investment while the third will put investment into non-commercial technology for learning and development.

Robin Scott, Managing Director said: “The Immersive technology market is growing and maturing rapidly. This investment round allows Make Real the opportunity to exploit the background IP we have generated over our decade of immersive development. We are thrilled that our new partners have seen the potential in our business and look forward to contributing further to this fast growth sector.”

Jane Burgess, Chairman said: “Make Real has established a strong position in the growing immersive industry. With this capital injection, we’re excited to move to the next stage of company growth, focusing on the areas that provide even more value to our clients. We are delighted to be working with an investment partner who provides us not only capital, but also years of strategic experience in growing businesses.”

Brighton has become a UK centre of technology development according to some analysts, particularly in the area of immersive technology. The Innovate UK Immersive Economy in the UK report identified it as a growing key cluster in its May report.

For future news from the VR and AR industry, keep checking back with VRFocus.
