The videogame is being developed exclusively for the Google Daydream by Seismic Games in a partnership between Seismic Games, Alcon Media Group, Google and Lenovo. They broke the news on Blade Runner: Revelations at CES 2018, Las Vegas.

In the videogame you take on the role of Harper, a blade runner, who the players will have unravel a replicant plot that threatens the Los Angeles of the distant year 2023. Luckily Harper has a variety of tools at his disposal, such as a flying spinner, blast weapons and esper image reconstruction to help solve mysteries in VR.

This will be the third Blade Runner experience in VR, following Blade Runner 2049: Memory Lab and Blade Runner 2049: Replicant Pursuit. Lenovo’s own head-mounted display (HMD), the Lenovo Mirage Solo, will also see a release of Blade Runner: Revelations.

The teaser trailer for Blade Runner: Revelations is also fascinating, which you can see here. It offers some impressive views of the VR cityscape, giving players a good idea of what they have in store from the Google Daydream experience.

Greg Borrud, CEO of Seismic Games commented; “Seismic Games continues to invest and focus on creating high production game titles that authentically engage and transform major IPs into compelling and expansive interactive experiences for the fans. Collaborating with Alcon Media Group, Google and Lenovo for Blade Runner: Revelations has been an absolute honor, and we can’t wait to hear what the fans and general VR users think as they explore the game.”

The new screenshots below will give you even more of an idea of what you can expect from Blade Runner: Revelations, so make sure to take a look at our gallery, where we have interesting shots of buildings, offices, interrogations and more of the gritty world of Blade Runner.

We’ll have more news and impressions on Blade Runner: Revelations as soon as we can, but for everything else in the world of VR, stay on VRFocus.

Lenovo Goes for the VR Headset hat Trick with the Daydream Compatible Mirage Solo

HTC may have decided to abandon its plans for a mobile headset with Google but Lenovo still seem to be going strong, with a recent FFC filing showcasing a new headset called the Mirage Solo, which would utilise the Daydream platform.

If the Mirage name sounds slightly familiar then you’d be right, slightly confusingly the Lenovo Mirage is the company’s augmented reality (AR) headset which comes bundled with Star Wars: Jedi Challenges. Discovered by Lets Go Digitalthe same site which found the Vive Focus trademark, the FCC test report doesn’t list a massive amount of amazing information, simply confirming the name: Lenovo Mirage Solo with Daydream, model number: the Lenovo VR-1541F and that’ll come equipped with a 4.000 mAh Li-Ion battery plus Bluetooth 5.0 support. None of the documents reveal which processor is to be used, so depending on cost possibly either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or maybe the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, just like the Vive Focus.

While the documents certainly help to solidify the fact that Lenovo has another headset in the works, as and when it’s going to appear is another matter. The first time it was mentioned was during the Google I/O conference in conjunction with HTC. With CES 2018 just over a week away Lenovo will probably use the event to officially unveil the Mirage Solo – or a little later during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) which has seen VR increase its presence. After which, if a release window isn’t revealed, customers could be waiting until Winter 2018 to get their hands on the device.

This might be fine when it comes to Vive Focus which HTC has officially confirmed for release in China next year – with a western launch still a grey area. Yet there are more standalone headsets on the way. Oculus Go is due for release early 2018 – but doesn’t feature inside-out tracking (Mirage Solo should include Google’s WorldSense) – and then there’s Pico Neo which is compatible with Vive Wave.

2018 is certainly shaping up to be a wire free year for VR, with VRFocus attending CES 2018 to bring you the first details on the latest announcements as they happen.

Lenovo’s Daydream Standalone VR Headset ‘Mirage Solo’ Approved by FCC

Ahead of any official announcement, Lenovo’s upcoming Daydream standalone headset was recently approved by the FCC, suggesting the company is gearing up for launch soon.

First discovered by Lets Go Digitalthe FCC test report (seen below) reveals little about the headset. Besides the name ‘Lenovo Mirage Solo’ and a confirmation of its place in the Daydream app ecosystem, the only spec-related info found in the test report concludes the EUT (equipment under test) contains a 4,000 mAh battery and support for Bluetooth 5.0. The EUT was an identical prototype to the production model however, suggesting the specs published here are indeed final.

Back at Google I/O 2017 in May, Google first revealed it was building Daydream standalone VR headsets capable of wireless, beacon-less positional tracking thanks to on-board depth sensing cameras and the company’s WorldSense tracking algorithm. At the time, Google announced it was working with HTC and Lenovo to bring the standalone VR headsets to market, although only last month was it revealed that HTC scrapped all plans of releasing its headset in the West, instead launching it under the name Vive Focus in China. Instead of supporting Daydream, Vive Focus hooks into a mobile version of the Viveport app store and uses it own positional tracking algorithm.

Lenovo currently produces a Windows VR headset, called Lenovo Explorer, and a smartphone-based AR headset, called Lenovo Mirage AR.

With CES around the corner, we’re hoping to learn more about the standalone headset. We’ll have feet on the ground in Las Vegas, so check back closer to CES’s start on January 7th to see if we’ll finally get a glimpse at what could be the first major standalone headset release in the West.

“With Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, Lenovo and Disney are bringing Star Wars to fans in ways they could previously only imagine,” said Jeff Meredith, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Lenovo Consumer PCs & Smart Devices in as statement. “Augmented Reality has always been an important part of Star Wars, and it’s exciting to bring these key moments to life by marrying Lenovo technology with Disney’s storytelling.”

As for Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, players will be able to hone their Jedi talents across three separate AR-based experiences. First there are Lightsaber Battles. Using the lightsaber controller, fans can train against legendary dark side villains like Kylo Ren and Darth Vader. Players will then be able to rally the forces of the Republic, Rebel Alliance, and Resistance against the might of the Separatists, Empire, and First Order in battles across their living rooms. Lastly to get that grey matter working there’s Holochess. So now fans can actually direct holographic alien pieces across a board.

“We believe augmented reality will usher in a new era of storytelling and play an important role in the experiences we create for our fans,” said Kyle Laughlin, Senior Vice President, Games and Interactive Experiences, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “With Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, we’re bringing together the latest technology and one of the most recognized franchises in the galaxy to fulfill the wishes of anyone who’s ever wanted to wield a lightsaber or take on the empire forces on the battlefield.”

The videogame supports both Android and iOS smartphones. The Lenovo Mirage AR headset features two built-in fisheye sensors to provide inside-out positional tracking, while the Tracking Beacon is placed on the floor, acting as a stable base for the headset’s sensors to detect the user’s movement during gameplay.

As further details on the Lenovo Mirage are released VRFocus will let you know.

Lenovo Teases Its Upcoming VR and AR Product Launch at IFA

Lenovo seem to be keen on getting into the virtual reality (VR) market. The company has at least three headsets that it is working on, some of which are set to be launched for Christmas this year, if the recently released teaser video for Lenovo’s presentation at the IFA event is any indication.

As previously reported, Lenovo is working on two VR platforms. One of which is an entry into the Windows 10 Mixed Reality headset market, where it will join companies such as HP, Asus and Acer. The other is a stand-alone VR device based on Google Daydream technology, designed to be a meeting point between expensive high-end PC VR and mobile VR. A recent trademark application revealed that one of these devices will carry the name ‘Lenovo Mirage’, and thought on which of those devices will receive the name is divided.

Lenovo are also developing augmented reality devices, one of which has previously been featured as part of Disney’s D23 event as the headset was used along with a bluetooth lightsabre peripheral to create an AR Star Wars experience which will overlay images on the real world. The same headset will allow users to play Holochess, the iconic game played by Chewbacca and R2D2 in Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

The AR device is said to be smartphone-powered, though Lenovo have previously displayed a prototype of a standalone AR device referred to as the DaystAR. If this device is related to the Star Wards AR device is unknown at this stage, though some reports indicate that the DaystAR is intended for enterprise use.

Further details will be revealed by Lenovo at IFA 2017, which will be held on 31st August, 2017 in Berlin, Germany. You can watch the IFA teaser video below.

VRFocus will continue to report on new technologies in the VR and AR sectors.

Lenovo Mixed Reality Headset Will Be Called Mirage

It has been known since late June that Lenovo will be joining HP, Acer and Asus in creating its own version of the Windows 10 Mixed Reality headset. A recent Trademark application by the Chinese tech giant has revealed a probable name for the device – The Lenovo Mirage.

With the first wave of the development kits of the Mixed Reality (MR) headsets from Acer and HP have gone on sale through the Microsoft Store, with versions from Dell and ASUS expected to appear beside them soon. The Lenovo version of the headset is currently expected to be launched some time in late 2017.

The Trademark application for the Lenovo Mirage name was made earlier this month and is awaiting approval at the US Patent and Trademark office. Like the other Windows 10 MR devices, the Lenovo Mirage will act primarily as a virtual reality (VR) headset, though it has been confirmed as having front-facing stereo cameras so MR effects can be utilised. Analysts are expecting a retail price of around $300 (USD), which is in line with the HP and Acer devices, which are priced at $329 and $299 respectively.

Lenovo’s ambitions with regards to MR/VR/AR go even further, however, since the company has also recently announced its plans to create an augmented reality (AR) headset called the daystAR and is planning on releasing a standalone headset based on the google Daydream.

Full specifications and a precise release date for the Lenovo Mirage have yet to be revealed, though it is expected that the device will have very similar spec to the HP and Acer versions, with minor differences, such as the HP unit’s detachable cable.

VRFocus will continue to report on new developments regarding Lenovo’s MR and AR devices as it becomes available.
