Massive ‘Sh*t Just Got Real’ Sale At Green Man Gaming Discounts Tons Of PC VR Games

A massive Sh*t Just Got Real sale went live on Green Man Gaming with tons of PC VR game discounts including The Walking Dead, Superhot, LA Noire, and more.

Note: They can and will run out of keys and not every deal lasts as long as others. For example, as of the time of this writing at 12PM PT, the deal for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners only has six hours remaining and Star Trek: Bridge Crew is currently out of stock despite being on sale, but may become available again eventually.

You can find every game in the sale here or the ‘Top Picks’ from Green Man Gaming here. In total there are 63 games discounted including some deep price cuts as low as over 80% off. When you buy a game on Green Man Gaming it’s not a shady key reselling site, it’s just a storefront for Steam keys provided to GMG. It works like the Humble Store. After buying a game on GMG, you get a Steam key and access the game just like you had bought it on Steam directly.

Here are some recommended picks based on the sale price relative to the game’s value, in my opinion:

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (-40%, $24)

Borderlands 2 VR (-66%, $17)

Take-Two CEO Thankful Company Didn’t ‘Waste Any Money’ On VR After Publishing 3 VR Games

In a recent interview with Protocol, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that he is thankful the company didn’t “waste any money” on VR, despite the fact that they’ve published three VR-exclusive games with another “AAA open-world title in VR” currently in development.

In the article, the interviewer is talking to Zelnick about emerging technologies, specifically cloud gaming such as Google Stadia. Zelnick responds, “Any new distribution vehicle that offers high-quality, efficiency and a reasonable price is good for our business because broader distribution is always better in the entertainment business.”

He then goes on to say, “That said, there was all this hype for years about VR, and I wasn’t very compelled by that. Thankfully, as a result, we didn’t waste any money on it.”

Take-Two has already published three VR games. For those unaware, Take-Two Interactive is the parent company for both Rockstar Games and 2K. This means they’ve directly funded L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, Borderlands 2 VR, and the NBA 2KVR Experience, not to mention a fourth one on the way from the same studio that created L.A. Noire VR.

Unfortunately the interview does not return to this comment to get further clarity on what he’s implying, but it’s likely that he simply means they did not pivot their entire business model to embracing VR and did not spin up a multitude of expensive VR projects. Instead, they outsourced a couple of ports and a basketball mini-game.

What do you think the Take-Two CEO meant by this comment? Does this mean the reportedly “AAA” open-world title is not receiving as much funding as before? Let us know what you think down in the comments below!

Community Download: What Do You Hope Rockstar’s Next VR Game Is?

Community Download is a weekly discussion-focused articles series published (usually) every Monday in which we pose a single, core question to you all, our readers, in the spirit of fostering discussion and debate. For today’s Community Download, we want to know which VR game you want to see published by Rockstar next, now that we know one is coming?

You know what’s exciting? The topic question isn’t even pure speculation this week! We literally know that Rockstar has hired Video Games Deluxe, the studio that worked on LA Noire: The VR Case Files for them, to work on a new AAA open world VR game. There’s a job listing to prove it!

Here’s a video with more details:

However, what we don’t know is what that AAA VR game is going to be exactly. Could this be another VR version from one of their existing open world franchises, like Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption? Or perhaps this is a brand new IP built from the ground up for VR. Either way it’s extremely exciting news.

A few years ago I wrote a list of other Rockstar games I’d love to see adapted for VR and my thoughts remain relatively unchanged. After playing GTA 5 in VR using mods I’m sold that type of game would be immensely fun, especially with motion controllers.

On the one hand it’s disappointing Rockstar won’t be unleashing their in-house talents on a VR project anytime soon, but maybe we can at least explore some of the immense worlds they’ve created.

Rockstar ‘AAA Open World’ VR Game In Development At LA Noire VR Studio

A new Rockstar ‘AAA’ VR Game is in development if a LinkedIn listing from a VR developer is to be believed.

Sydney-based Videogames Deluxe (labeled Video Games Deluxe in the following link but credited in its games at Videogames Deluxe) last week posted an update on its profile (first spotted on Reddit), stating that the team was “gearing up for a new project, a AAA open world title in VR for Rockstar.”

Rockstar VR Game

Well, that’s one way to kick Monday off.

New Rockstar VR Game?

Crucially, Videogames Deluxe is the team that handled the 2017 Rockstar VR game, LA Noire: The VR Case Files on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, along with a later port to PSVR. The team isn’t listed as the developer on the game’s Steam page, but you can clearly see the company listed first in the game’s credits in this video.

In fact, original LA Noire director Brendan McNamara maintained his role on the new version and works at the studio. The original game was developed by Team Bondi, former members of which are also with this studio.

We’ve reached out to Rockstar itself for confirmation.

Videogames Deluxe is looking for Senior Programmers, an Engine Programmer, a Designer and an Animator to work on the “ground breaking” project. No other details about the new Rockstar VR game were announced, but we’d obviously love to know if this was an all-new game or perhaps a port of one of its existing titles.

A few years ago, HTC told UploadVR that Rockstar wasn’t ‘done’ with VR, and we’ve since seen a very decent mod that brings VR support to the juggernaut hit that is Grand Theft Auto V on PC. We’ve also written about how Red Dead Redemption 2 seems like a perfect fit for a VR port. Then again, with so many Team Bondi members on the team, perhaps a VR sequel to LA Noire is on the cards.

If this is true then this could be the next big VR game to look forward to after March’s release of Half-Life: Alyx.

What do you think this new Rockstar VR game could be? Let us know in the comments below!

LA Noire PC VR Update Adds PSVR Exclusive Content, Improved Support For Index & More

When LA Noire: The VR Case Files arrived on PSVR last September, it brought some exclusive content along with it. From this week, though an LA Noire PC VR update brings that content to other headsets.

Title Update 1.0.539.0, as it’s majestically labelled, includes the three minigames that were present in the PSVR version. That’s a shooting gallery, a boxing game and a speedcar racing game.

The shooting range is a pretty simple affair. You use your respective motion controllers to aim and fire guns at cardboard enemies. There’s some fun fairground-style distractions too. The boxing, meanwhile takes the game’s melee combat and brings it into the ring with a bunch of different fights to bash your way through. Finally, the racing gives you a handful of circuits to speed around in adorable little speedcars.

Elsewhere, this LA Noire PC VR update also improves support for some of the new headsets on the market like the Valve Index, Vive Cosmos and Oculus Rift S. We’re not actually sure what improvements have been made. Rockstar also says there’s been some improvements and bug fixes to the rest of the game but, again, didn’t get specific.

It’s great that Rockstar is still issuing LA Noire PC VR updates, though we’re still holding out hope that the company is working on a new VR title too. HTC once told us that the company wasn’t done with VR, but we haven’t heard much since. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for that Red Dead Redemption 2 VR port, though.

LA Noire: The VR Case Files PSVR Version Finally Confirmed, Available Today

The rumors are true; LA Noire: The VR Case Files is coming to PSVR.

The port of the divisive Rockstar game was just confirmed during Sony’s State of Play broadcast. And it’s out today! (UPDATE: We originally said it’s out now but it’s not live on the PS Store yet. Apologies!) Back in August we reported on a PEGI rating for the game which all but confirmed its existence.

LA Noire The VR Case Files first released on PC VR headsets a few years back. The game plays like an abridged version of the original, hand-picking a few of the original missions and adapting them into VR. You play as Detective Cole Phelps, solving cases across his entire career.

Though LA Noire first released years before a VR headset, the game’s core concepts make surprising sense for the platform. Along with fist fights and shoot outs, the game uses detailed facial scanning to bring elicit emotions to characters in the world. You have to study their reactions to questions to try and solve your case. It works quite well in VR, and the motion controls are well suited to the experience too.

We gave LA Noire: The VR Case Files 8/10 in our review. “Interrogations, crime scenes, and action moments all feel great, but they’re too few and far between with only seven total cases,” David Jagneaux wrote. “But given the scope and abbreviated implementation of one of gaming’s most unique properties, LA Noire VR is an absolutely riveting adventure.”

Elsewhere, HTC recently suggested to us that Rockstar is “not done” with VR. Hopefully that means we’ll see some new VR games from the GTA developer in the new year.

VRecap #4: LA Noire PSVR, Mitchell Moves And Win No Man’s Sky!

Hey, you. Yes, you. Tear yourself away from No Man’s Sky for a second; it’s time for the VRecap.

Yes Hello Games’ hugely anticipated VR update hit this week. But, as you’ll likely know, things haven’t gone according to plan so far. Surprisingly, we’re not just talking No Man’s Sky this week; Oculus is saying goodbye to its last co-founder and the cat might be out of the bag on LA Noire for PSVR.

Then, as usual, we’ll round up some of the biggest new releases which, yes, does include No Man’s Sky. It’s also a pretty big week for Quest fans with not one but three new games. Who has the money for that?

Oh and we’re doing another giveaway! Can you guess what might be up for grabs this week? If you said Pinball FX2, you’re wrong. It’s No Man’s Sky. Did you know No Man’s Sky got VR support this week? News to us. We’ve got five SteamVR codes up for grabs for all you Rift, Vive, Index and Windows VR fans.

Anyway, we’re onto recap number 4 now and things seem to be going pretty smoothly. Still, we’re all ears if you have suggestions about how to change the show for the better. We are not all ears for nasty comments, though. In fact, we specifically close our ears for that. Don’t do those.

Have a great weekend! Maybe set an alarm for Sunday night otherwise you might find you jump out of No Man’s Sky midway through Monday.

LA Noire: The VR Case Files Rated For PSVR

Get Phelps on the case; it looks like LA Noire: The VR Case Files is finally coming to PSVR.

This abridged adaptation of Rockstar and Team Bondi’s divisive detective game hit PC VR headsets in 2017. It took a choice selection of cases from the original game and directly translated them for headsets. As with most high-end PC VR games, we’ve since been waiting for confirmation of a PSVR version. This week, the European games rating board, PEGI, gave a PS4 version an 18 rating.

LA Noire PSVR

While not official confirmation, it does make an impending announcement likely. It’s surprising it’s taken this long but, then again, porting to the less powerful PS4 hardware can be an intense and costly process.

If true, we’d hope to see the PSVR version arriving later this year. PSVR’s had a strong 2019 thus far with releases like Blood & Truth and, from tomorrow, No Man’s Sky. That said, we don’t really know what’s coming for the rest of the year aside from Iron Man VR.

This would certainly make a worthy addition to the line-up.

Elsewhere, HTC says Rockstar isn’t done with VR. We’d really, really like to see Red Dead Redemption 2 in VR, please.

Best Of UploadVR Livestreams: Skyrim, LA Noire, Beat Saber, And More

You might have noticed over the last few months that we’re trying to increase our livestream frequency here at UploadVR. We’ve been using Restream, a service that allows you to stream to more than one platform simultaneously so that we can hit both YouTube and Twitch. Then using OVRDrop, we can see chat from both services while inside VR without having to look at the monitor at all.

We’re still gearing up to start doing some more mixed reality streaming with a smooth, easy pipeline, so keep an eye out for that in compatible titles going forward. But since today is the Fourth of July and that means taking the day off for most Americans, I decided to put together this roundup of some of our best recent VR gaming livestreams all in one handy spot.

Check some of them out and if you like what you see subscribe to use on YouTube and Twitch to get involved the next time we’re live! We usually try to go live two or three times per week around 2:00PM or 3:00PM PT.

LA Noire: The VR Case Files Coming To Rift This Week

LA Noire: The VR Case Files Coming To Rift This Week

LA Noire: The VR Case Files is releasing for Oculus Rift tomorrow on Thursday, March 29th. It didn’t take too long for Rockstar to release LA Noire: VR officially for Rift.

Originally releasing late last year with only Vive support on Steam, LA Noire VR quickly rose up the lists of best VR games available on the platform. We selected it as our favorite Vive game of 2017 and now Rift owners are going to get to explore the world of 1940s Los Angeles as Detective Cole Phelps.

With eight square miles of 1940s Los Angeles painstakingly re-imagined in virtual reality, LA Noire VR is very likely one of the largest VR games on the market today. While it doesn’t include the entirety of the non-VR game, it has a solid selection of cases to complete, as well as the entire city to explore either on foot or driving in vehicles.

Since the primary locomotion system in LA Noire is actually either teleportation-focused or arm-swinger locomotion, the inclusion of the Oculus Touch analog sticks won’t offer as much of an improvement, which is in contrast to the Rift version of ports of other games like Skyrim VR.

Hopefully this continued VR support means Rockstar is considering bringing more of their properties over to VR headsets or, at the very least, also bringing LA Noire VR to PSVR so even more fans can embody Cole Phelps like never before.
