Arizona Sunshine Coming to European Retail Stores Next Month for PlayStation VR

While most PlayStation VR videogames are predominantly digital only there are a few that have made it to full retail release. The latest to make that jump is Vertigo Games’ zombie shooter Arizona Sunshine, set to be released as a physical copy for European customers next month.

Richard Stitselaar, Vertigo Games’ Studio Director, made the announcement on the European PlayStation Blog, saying: “After months of daily community requests, we are thrilled to finally be able to announce that we are partnering with Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe to bring Arizona Sunshine to European retail stores this March!”

The disk version will be exactly the same as its digital cousin, featuring the recently released ‘Free DLZ’, adding two maps to Horde mode: the pitch-black Old Mine and the warehouse-turned-underground casino, Undead Valley. The two-handed weapon update will also be included, equipping players with 13 new two-handed weapons. Originally developed with the PlayStation VR Aim Controller in mind new guns include rifles, assault rifles or sub-machine guns as well as an additional campaign mode. Vertigo Games announced the weapon update a couple of months ago, at the time it didn’t specify when the additional content would become available. There’s no confirmation on whether the update will come to Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality headsets at the same time.

Arizona Sunshine includes both single-player and multiplayer modes, The campaign can be played solo and in co-op, where you embark on a quest to find other survivors across a zombie-overrun American South-West. With scarce gear, ammo, and consumables, you need to loot from your undead enemies and the post-apocalyptic surroundings to survive.

Last month Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive announced a special location-based version of Arizona Sunshine. Demoed on the HTC Vive stand during CES 2018, Neither Vertigo Games or HTC Vive have revealed when this new version of Arizona Sunshine will be rolled out to VR centres, or which locations these might be in.

European customers will be able to buy physical copies of Arizona Sunshine from 21st March 2018. For any further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

Two-Handed Weapons Coming to Arizona Sunshine in Next Update

Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive have announced the third major DLC for popular first-person shooter (FPS)  Arizona Sunshinebringing two-handed weapons into play for gamers.

Arizona Sunshine two handed weapons

Adding more firepower for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality users, the new update was originally developed with the PlayStation VR Aim Controller in mind equipping players with 13 new two-handed weapons. As you can tell from the above image the new guns are either rifles, assault rifles or sub-machine guns. These will certainly offer a different dynamic when dispatching hordes of zombies, allowing for greater distance kills or just unleashing a controlled burst of fire to pop a few heads.

The update also includes optional support for the PP Gun, a two-handed gun peripheral for HTC Vive, so that PC VR users can finally play the additional mode the way it was meant to be played.

“Arizona Sunshine is all about shooting, so we wanted to provide only the best experience when it comes to two-handed weapons. With the PP Gun, we were finally able to get it right,” said Richard Stitselaar, Game Director at Vertigo Games in a statement. “To ensure everyone will be able to play two-handed mode however, it will also support regular motion controllers. We just want players to be mindful that it was designed with a two-handed VR gun peripheral in mind and that this will provide the optimal experience.”

Both the developers have always touted the fact that Arizona Sunshine employs realistic weapons handling, so with the new update this should increase the immersion for players.

The Two-Handed Weapons Update will be available free of charge to everyone who owns a copy of Arizona Sunshine for HTC Vive, Oculus or Windows Mixed Reality. Vertigo Games hasn’t yet confirmed when the update will go live, simply stating ‘coming soon’.

It’s been PlayStation VR that’s seen the most recent rollout of updates, with two new Horde Mode maps released for the headset last month after several months of delays. As Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive continue to expand and improve Arizona Sunshine VRFocus will keep you updated with the latest announcements.

Arizona Sunshine’s Horde Mode Expands With Two Free Maps for PlayStation VR

Fans of Arizona Sunshine for PlayStation VR will be pleased to know that Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive have now released their long awaited DLC for the zombie shooter, bringing with it two new maps for Horde Mode.

Arizona Sunshine’s Horde Mode is essentially zombie survival, where you team up with other players to survive wave after wave of attacks. To make things a little more interesting each of the maps has its own play style and challenges.

Arizona Sunshine old mine

Old Mine puts you in the dark, underground labyrinth from the campaign, where you start out with only one flashlight and must think tactically to both defend the hideout whilst taking chances on vital supply runs in an almost pitch black map, which is designed to encourage team play, although it can be played solo.

The second map is Undead Valley, set in an old, zombie-infested warehouse-turned-underground casino, close to Las Vegas. In this map players stay ahead of the horde by gradually expanding their play area, unlocking new areas both in- and outdoors, by blowing up obstacles with grenades or opening doors with keys found throughout the level and finding new weapons, ammo and tactical positions as they go. This map will also see the familiar zombie waves replaced with an intense, ongoing influx of zombies for the ultimate survival challenge.

The update is completely free to everyone who owns a copy of Arizona Sunshine for PlayStation VR and wants more playable maps for up to 4 players in co-op multiplayer.

Arizona Sunshine originally launched for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive back in December 2016, as one of the launch titles for Oculus Touch. Since then, not only has it been ported to PlayStation VR but also Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality  headsets and can currently be found on Steam for £20.99 GBP, saving 30 percent off in the Autumn sale.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Arizona Sunshine, reporting back with the latest announcements.

Arizona Sunshine DLZ Update Dated for PlayStation VR

Earlier this year Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive launched their popular virtual reality (VR) shooter Arizona Sunshine on PlayStation VR. This was due to be followed a few months later with an update, adding further content and improvements. That never happened, with the studios issuing a statement at the beginning of November detailing why this didn’t occur. Today, it has now been revealed PlayStation VR owners will see the update arrive next week on 28th November 2017.

The new content will be free for everyone who owns the base title, and includes two additional maps for Horde mode for up to 4 players in co-op multiplayer. The maps are bigger and allow for a more dynamic play style than the original Horde map.

As previously reported, the two new maps are Old Mine and Undead Valley. Old Mine has players start out with only one flashlight, where they must think tactically to both defend their hideout and take chances on vital supply runs in an utterly dark map, which is designed to encourage team play, although it can be played solo.

Undead Valley is set in an old, zombie-infested warehouse-turned-underground casino, close to Las Vegas. In this map players stay ahead of the horde by gradually expanding their play area, unlocking new areas both in- and outdoors, by blowing up obstacles with grenades or opening doors with keys found throughout the level and finding new weapons, ammo and tactical positions as they go. To mix things up a bit the developers have replaced the familiar zombie waves with an intense, ongoing influx of zombies for the ultimate survival challenge.

The developers have also confirmed that Arizona Sunshine on PlayStation VR will see its digital release in Japan and other Asian territories later this year, adding more players to Horde mode.

Arizona Sunshine originally launched for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive back in December 2016, as one of the launch titles for Oculus Touch. Since then, not only has it been ported to PlayStation VR but also Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

As always, VRFocus will continue its coverage of Arizona Sunshine, reporting back with the latest announcements.

Vertigo Games Reconfirm Arizona Sunshine DLC for PlayStation VR, Asian Launch Announced

Back in July Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive announced that the PlayStation VR version would be getting some free DLC featuring two new Horde maps as well as several bug fixes. That update never arrived and today the studios have released a statement on why, whilst reconfirming that the update is still on its way.

Arizona Sunshine screenshot

The statement reads as follows:

“First of all, we apologize for the delay of the free Arizona Sunshine PS VR DLC and our silence on the topic for the past months.

“We are now ready to announce that after some challenges encountered in the development process (details on which we are sharing below) things are looking up. Both the Old Mine and Undead Valley Horde mode maps are now with Sony for approval and we are working on a swift release.

“While the maps are now imminent, we feel we owe you a bit of explanation on the development process and the issues that prolonged it.

“Horde mode is performance-heavy as it needs to run with not one or two but FOUR players at a time, each shooting with all their might at a LOT of zombies. Every additional player and every additional zombie has a significant impact on the game’s performance, and while the original Horde map works well even with four players, the additional Horde maps are much more complex and bigger and needed much more work than anticipated to run on 60fps.

“To illustrate, the Old Mine map is basically taken from the campaign mode where it was originally created for 1-2 players and with way fewer zombies in mind. As for Undead Valley, this is a dynamic warehouse with many dynamic objects, with which we already pushed the limits on PC. Over the past months, we have worked on a series of changes in order to make the additional Horde mode maps work on PS VR:

  • Overall performance optimizations
  • Art optimizations
  • Various level adjustments
  • Gunshot optimizations that improve performance of all Horde mode maps, including the original”

In addition to the above statement the developers have also confirmed that Arizona Sunshine on PlayStation VR will see its digital release in Japan and other Asian territories later this year, adding more players to Horde mode.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Arizona Sunshine, reporting back with the latest updates.

Arizona Sunshine to Launch on PlayStation VR in June

Today, Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive have announced that their popular virtual reality (VR) first-person shooter (FPS) Arizona Sunshine will be arriving on PlayStation VR next month.

Arizona Sunshine originally launched for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive back in December 2016, and for its PlayStation VR debut in June the videogame will not only support PlayStation 4 and PalyStation 4 Pro, it’ll provide compatibility for the PlayStation Aim controller that’s due to arrive this month alongside Farpoint. That’s on top of being able to play the videogame using the regular DualShock 4 controllers and PlayStation Move.

Built from the ground up for virtual reality (VR), Arizona Sunshine allows players to handle, fire, and reload a multitude of different weapons with real-life movements, whilst destroying hordes of zombies across a series of huge southwestern American environments, including blistering-hot deserts, treacherous canyons and deep, dark mines. Featuring both single-player and co-op multiplayer modes, players will be able to jump in for a short sessions or stay for the entire campaign due to the way it’s split up. Whilst multiplayer features both co-op campaign and a Horde mode for up to four players.

No exact date in June has been stated but expect an announcement during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017. For the latest Arizona Sunshine updates keep reading VRFocus.

Trackpad Locomotion Option Now Available for Arizona Sunshine

Last month Arizona Sunshine saw worldwide release on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift for Oculus Touch. The title only featured teleportation as a movement mechanic but today Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive have announced players can now use a trackpad locomotion option instead.

Most virtual reality (VR) video games tend to use teleportation as a standard mechanic for moving around virtual worlds as it’s comfortable for most players, reducing the dreaded simulator sickness. Whereas movement with a thumbstick or trackpad can cause issues for some players. For VR players that can handle that sort of locomotion its means increased immersion, realism and greater control in VR.

“We are grateful for all of the suggestions game players have made for additional modes and features they would like to see in the game. We have been listening and are pleased to announce the addition of trackpad locomotion. This free update will be published January 24, 2017. The teleport mechanic will still be available in the game, meaning that players will now have an option on how they want to experience the game,” said Vertigo Games’ Managing Director, Richard Stitselaar in a statement. “We are incredibly pleased with the reception the game has received from press and players. It’s a huge validation to see the game receiving such high user ratings. It was amazing to see Arizona Sunshine at the top of the charts in its first week, and from what we can tell, it may be the fastest selling non-bundled PC VR title to date.

Released on 6th December, Arizona Sunshine has earned sales of more than $1.4 million USD in its first month confirms the developer. The update is applicable to both the HTC Vive and Oculus Touch versions.
