Jaguar Land Rover Using Gorillaz Mixed Reality app As Recruiting Tool

UK car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover is taking an interesting rout towards recruiting new engineering talent by using the mixed reality (MR) app created for virtual band Gorillaz to present a code-breaking challenge to potential candidates to the company.

The Gorillaz app will be launching a new area that will contain a 360-degree garage environment that will contain various vehicles featured in various Gorillaz music videos and media. Users can also take part in a challenge to assemble a Jaguar I-PACE electric concept car, during which users are presented with various information about the performance and technology as well as information about electric cars in general.

A more challenging part of the game, aimed at aspiring coders, engineers and mathematicians, involves a series of code-breaking puzzles, which are designed to test curiosity, persistence, lateral thinking and problem solving skills. The best performers will have the opportunity to be fast-tracked through the recruitment process. The challenge is presented by the band’s guitarist, Noodle, who acts as Jaguar Land Rover’s ambassador for Jaguar’s Formula E racing team and STEM.

Alex Heslop, Head of Electrical Engineering, Jaguar Land Rover, said: “As the automotive industry transforms over the next decade, fuelled by software innovation, we have to attract the best talent and that requires a radical rethink of how we recruit. Here we’ve found an engaging way to recruit a diverse talent pool in software systems, cyber systems, app development and graphics performance. It will be the first of its kind.”

The Gorillaz app is available for free through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Further information about Jaguar Land Rover’s recruitment can be found on the official website.

VRFocus will continue to keep you updated with news on Mixed reality, virtual reality and augmented reality.
