‘Immerse’ Brings Live Spanish Courses to Quest 2, More Languages Coming in 2023

Immerse, a startup focusing on teaching languages in VR, has launched their social app on Quest 2 which lets subscribers take part in live Spanish or English lessons, peer-to-peer conversation practice, and weekly community events.

When Immerse first secured a $1.5 million Series A investment in late 2020 most of the world was working and going to school from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea: learn a language through full-immersion, with VR allowing you to talk face-to-face with other learners and an instructor while you took on real world scenarios.

In March 2022, the company further secured $9 million in its Series B, which allowed it to develop its app for Quest 2 in addition to partnering with institutions across the world to offer up a full-immersion language learning platform. At the time, the company was focused on teaching English as a foreign language, but now Immerse has launched its app on Quest 2 for users looking to improve their Spanish or English. The membership fee is priced at $45 per month, which includes:

  • 12 Live VR lessons facilitated by an expert Language Guide per month
  • 24/7 access to the Social lounge for Live Conversation Practice
  • Personalized feedback to accelerate fluency growth
  • Weekly events to build new community and cultural insight

Immerse is also set to add French and Japanese to their list of available languages, arriving sometime in 2023. Then, the company will be bumping its membership fee to $60 per month. The app does however offer a seven-day free trial to see if its right for you. For now, the free trial is only available for users looking to learn Spanish.

In defense of the app’s membership pricing, Immerse had this to say in the comments of a user review:

Our membership fee is $45 per month because we provide more than typical language learning apps. Our monthly membership includes 12 live VR classes per month, facilitated by a live expert Language Guide, plus 24/7 access to the Social Lounge where you can enjoy real conversation practice with other learners from around the world.

12 classes on a traditional tutoring platform would cost well over $200, and to experience language immersion in real life would require hefty international travel fees far exceeding $45/month. Our goal is to increase people’s access to that kind of immersive language learning experience, but for a fraction of the cost. We hope you’ll consider a 7-day free trial and book our Orientation to learn more about this new kind of learning experience we have to offer.

The studio says Immerse is also coming to other VR headsets in the future. On its road to greater adoption, the company will pioneer best practices for immersive teaching and learning, and build what it says it hopes will be “a thriving virtual world community that will one day rival the likes of Rec Room, Roblox, and VRChat.”

The studio also released a 6-minute video to show off the app, and some of the things you can do with it:

Create a Tranquil Workplace by Meditating in Immerse

Solas VR

A lot of you might be working from home nowadays but that doesn’t mean to say it’s any less stressful now there’s no commute involved. Even with companies turning to XR solutions to help teams collaborate or train employees adjusting to this new dynamic isn’t always easy. So Immerse, the UK-based virtual reality (VR) platform built for enterprise training has announced a new partnership with meditation app Solas VR to help users unwind.

Solas VR

The partnership will see the Immerse Platform provide organisations with access to a library of VR meditations to boost mental wellbeing and brain productivity. There will be a selection of 360-degree videos capturing the nature of Ireland for users to relax in, with options to select a duration, the voice of preference and background sounds for a personalised experience.

Other features include breathing exercises for all levels of experience and Weekly Wisdom focusing on reflection and self-discovery. It’ll be updated with new stories and discussions to guide users and aid their mental health.

“The Immerse team are excited to be working with Solas VR to help encourage mindfulness in the corporate environment. We understand the importance of having a healthy and happy workforce, and the capabilities of virtual reality will allow those who receive the content to incorporate it more effectively than traditional methods,” said Tom Symonds, Immerse CEO in a statement. “Partnering with Solas VR is a great step in our endeavour to enable businesses to capitalise on the opportunity offered by immersive technology in multiple ways.”

Solas VR

“We’re very excited to be working with Immerse to help bring meditation, and subsequently a better sense of wellbeing, to as many people as possible,” Stephen Pitcher, Managing Director at Solas VR adds. “The last year has been difficult, but employers who prioritise corporate mindfulness will gain a sustainable competitive advantage as looking after your employees is more important than ever.”

The Immerse Platform has built a global customer base with customers including BP, Shell, DHL, GE Healthcare and Nestlé. This year also saw Immerse partner with Make Real to provide its library of VR training content. As the training platform continues to grow, VRFocus will keep you updated.

Make Real & Immerse Partner on All-in-One Training Solution for Enterprise

Both companies are already well-versed in providing immersive training solutions across a range of industries. The partnership will see them create a library of VR training content which enterprise organisations can access through the Immerse platform.

Initially, Make Real will add its current selection of training programmes to the platform. These will include Slinger Signaller, Site Access Traffic Marshalling, Rear Guard and D&I Perspectives VR (all Oculus Quest compatible) and End Point Assessment (for HTC Vive). All available alongside Immerse’s own VR content, covering topics such as health and safety, business development, and soft skills training.

“Since going on the road to promote our immersive experiences at events from 2014 onwards, we have always had a great, supportive relationship with Immerse, often sharing expo floors and crossovers of clients and sectors we both focus on and service within. As we move forwards into 2021 and the rapidly growing enterprise marketplace, it is the right time to formalise a strategic partnership to bring the experience and unique strengths of both companies together,” said Sam Watts, Immersive Partnerships Director at Make Real Ltd in a statement. “This will form a unified solution of a virtual reality software platform combined with engaging content, providing the best outcomes for enterprise customers of learning and measurement.”

“Partnering with Make Real is a fantastic step in our endeavour to enable all businesses to capitalise on the opportunity offered by immersive technology in a rapidly changing world. This collaborative offering will enable companies to import and deploy world-class content on a powerful platform, with minimal setup and expertise required. Immerse prides itself on delivering innovative solutions to complex challenges across businesses processes, and we hope that this will be the first of many partnerships of this nature,” Tom Symonds, CEO at Immerse adds.

Between them, they already have customers including Shell, DHL, Vodafone and Lloyds Banking Group. As the partnership continues to grow and expand its content selection, VRFocus will keep you updated.

Embody Brings Personalised Spatial Audio to beyerdynamic’s MMX 300 Gaming Headphones

Spatial audio is an integral part of virtual reality (VR) experiences, helping ground you in digital worlds that are becoming ever more expansive and complex. At last year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) Embody unveiled its AI-driven personalised spatial audio system Immerse to help in that process, offering a software solution that could tailor sounds to a person’s unique ear shape. Today, gamers can now access that system via a collaboration with beyerdynamic and its latest MMX 300 headphones.

beyerdynamic MMX 300

Immerse’s customized in-game audio works by using a photo of your ear to identify all its unique features and then an AI algorithm predicts how sound reflects and refracts, creating realistic audio tailored to you. Embody has worked closely with beyerdynamic engineers to create a perceptually accurate reproduction of game audio which in turn should improve your spatial awareness.

Whether you’re playing VR or non-VR videogames being able to accurately hear the direction a sound is coming from can have great implications on the experience. Immerse allows gamers to adjust several settings including moving the sound field closer or further away depending on the title.

“Embody and beyerdynamic share the passion for creating stunning sound experiences,” said Xavier Presser, Gaming Product Manager at beyerdynamic in a statement. “Our headphones make truly professional audio available for gamers and Immerse personalized spatial audio raises the bar for virtual surround simulations. Immerse with beyerdynamic uncovers a new facet of the MMX 300 that will again change your way of gaming.”

“Immerse personalized spatial audio is the perfect match with beyerdynamic’s design emphasis on delivering precision audio,” said Kapil Jain, CEO at Embody. “With the power of MMX300 and Immerse combined, gone is the hesitation to take a shot because you hear exactly where your enemies lie. Once you try Immerse with beyerdynamic’s MMX 300 headset you’ll never want to play a game without it.”

Having personalized spatial audio does come at a cost with the beyerdynamic MMX 300 headset currently retailing for €239.00 EUR/ $299.00 USD – was €299.00/$349.00 – while the Immerse software is $14.99/£13.99 GBP for a year or $39.99/£36.99 for 7 years.

Embody has yet to confirm when further headphones will be supported or integrated ones found on Vive Pro or Valve Index will be. When those details are available VRFocus will let you know.

UK Training Platform Immerse Expanding Into Korean Market via CJ OliveNetworks Partnership

Via its Virtual Enterprise Platform (VEP, UK-based training specialist Immerse helps companies unlock the potential of virtual reality (VR) across a range of use cases. Today, Immerse has announced a strategic partnership with CJ OliveNetworks to tap into the Korean market.

Immerse - image1

VR training has shown time and again it can effectively work across a range of industries and job roles; being especially effective for more hazardous jobs. CJ OliveNetworks is looking to develop bespoke VR training content thanks to the partnership, specifically catering to the needs of the Korean market. These include manufacturing, logistics, retail, assembly, health and safety among others. Immerse’s VEP can then provide scalable and measurable training environments for employees to train and learn in.

Several VR training projects have already been completed by CJ OliveNetworks. One for CJ CheilJedang involved a VR Pneumatic System Simulator, enabling interaction with pneumatic circuit components and controls. While a project for CJ Construction used Building Information Modeling (BIM) data to create a partially constructed building in VR, challenging new employees to identify defects and corrective measures. Discussions are currently ongoing for projects outside of the CJ Group in 2020.

“VR training will significantly save time and money for employee training and furthermore reduce errors and increase operational efficiencies for enterprises,” said GiHo Ro, Director and Head of AR/VR Business Team at CJ OliveNetworks in a statement. “Through extensive testing of the Immerse VEP, we feel that it is the best platform to enable us to maximise the opportunities we have identified in the Korean market.”

Immerse - image2
Tom Symonds, CEO of Immerse adds: “Partnering with CJ OliveNetworks is an extremely important relationship for Immerse. As part of the CJ Group, they have the knowledge and expertise to accelerate the use of VR training in the region. Through our VEP they will have access to the appropriate tools and platform to quickly exploit opportunities and to roll them out at scale.”
As Immerse continues to enhance its training platform and announce expansion plans VRFocus will keep you updated. The same goes for VR training in general, as more companies employ VR to train staff.

Immerse Launches Multi-User Enterprise VR Platform

UK-based Immerse has announced the launch of an enterprise-ready multi-user virtual reality (VR) platform. Specialising in offering solutions across the defence, engineering & manufacturing, healthcare, mining, nuclear & renewable energy, oil & gas and satellite communications sectors, Immerse is already working on a number of live projects.

Immerse demo

Having received significant funding from a new UK investor group, Immerse has developed a live VR platform that enables multiple users to create and share VR and 3D experiences for a number of business applications. One of these is with QinetiQ, the British multinational defence technology company, which manages and operates extensive testing and evaluation capabilities for air, land, sea and target systems.

QinetiQ turned to Immerse for support in order to facilitate an alternative solution to real at-sea submarine training for the Royal Navy. Immerse’s multi-voice VR solution provided a 3D submarine control room, complete with working displays, VR boat operators and multiple interaction points, enabling trainees to learn and interact with colleagues while safely rehearsing potentially life-threatening scenarios onshore.

Tom Symonds, CEO of Immerse, said: “Our platform is specifically designed to democratise the VR experience, allowing VR content creators to upload their own experiences from anywhere in the world and then share them in a way that enables users to meet in the same virtual environments. While there will never be a substitute for real hands on at-sea training, the VR solution we provided QinetiQ with offered a cost-effective alternative to current submariner training. The solution is not limited by access to live equipment, and covers essential basics while also saving money.”

Helen Dudfield, Chief Scientist for Training & Human Performance, QinetiQ, said: “As technology drives social and cultural change, training provision must keep up with shifting generational attitudes and expectations. Rigid training in fixed workspaces will make way for courses that offer the flexibility to learn wherever and whenever is convenient. Most importantly, technology can vastly improve the quality of learning by tailoring courses to students’ individual competencies and circumstances. Employers can reap the rewards of a highly skilled workforce at lower risk, and be confident of an excellent return on their investment in their people.”

With more than 150 of the 800+ companies working in the VR space worldwide based in the UK, Immerse hopes to capitalise on the growing demand for a VR workspace. You can find out more at http://immerse.io and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on the Immerse platform.
