Sprint Vector coverart

Sprint Vector

“There’s very little to dislike in Sprint Vector. Sure there will be times when that competitive edge over takes you, getting annoyed when you fudge a jump but that’s to be expected. The single-player has enough to get you started with a few hours of gameplay, yet it’s the multiplayer that’ll have you coming back for more. Here’s hoping that Sprint Vector draws in enough of a crowd to sustain it, rather than becoming another multiplayer focused experience that gets forgotten about. Which would be a shame, because from where VRFocus is standing Sprint Vector is another hit for the studio.” – Read VRFocus’ Senior Staff Writer Peter Graham’s review of Sprint Vector here.

Sprint Vector is currently on sale for £18.39 (GBP) down from £22.99 and in fact is having a free weekend until 8am BST on 9th April should you want to try the title out before purchasing to celebrate the newly released update.

Arizona Sunshine screenshot

Arizona Sunshine

“Arizona Sunshine is by no means a masterpiece, however it is a significant step closer to the VR experiences that early adopters know the technology is capable of. Hesitating to innovate too much, Arizona Sunshine cleverly picks-and-chooses from the key mechanics that have proven to work in four years of PC VR development and brings them to PlayStation 4 feeling almost new. Vertigo Games has created a hugely enjoyable FPS videogame for the early days of VR, but one which will undoubtedly look dated in just a few months.” – Read VRFocus’ Editor Kevin Joyce’s review of Arizona Sunshine on PlayStation VR here.

Ancient Amuletor Blossom Dance 01

Ancient Amuletor

Ancient Amuletor is a fun way to kill a few hours, with some simple, intuitive combat and enough interesting innovations to keep it fresh. Along with the lovely graphics making it nice to look at. Sadly though, the title lacks depth and longevity with only four levels and no particular incentive to reply. The developers have mentioned that some DLC is in the works, though, which could redeem this title above a simple, casual time-killer.” – Read VRFocus’ Staff Writer Rebecca Hills-Duty review of Ancient Amuletor here.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim screenshot

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR

“The achievement made by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR is one by way of both hardware and design to capitalise upon this. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR’s level of immersion is simply fantastic, and while Bethesda Softworks could well have gone the route of DOOM VFR and created a shorter spin-off experience, developing a brand new The Elder Scrolls instalment specifically for VR would have taken many years and far too much in the way of resources for what is still a nascent audience. As it stands some may find the price point of the videogame a bitter pill to swallow, but for those who dreamed of a truly immersive role-playing experience, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR is simply the best opportunity available today.” – Read VRFocus’ Editor Kevin Joyce’s review of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR here.

Something for the Weekend: Steam Spreads Some Luna Love

The weekend is supposed to be a time of rest, you end up doing chores and things yes but ultimately it’s the two days of the week where you are more likely to meet friends or family, sit back, relax, chill and do the things that you want to do. Yes, something usually will get in the way but to heck with that! So something for you this weekend.

Steam are, naturally enough, all for this espsecially when they’ve got a sale on for the Lunar New Year. You didn’t know it was the Lunar New Year? Well it is. The Year of the Dog incidentally, and Steam are celebrating with a sale. (Naturally.) Today’s selection of virtual reality (VR) titles picked by VRFocus come from it and for the most part the promotional prices end when the sale does after February 19th 2018. So check out the below and maybe save some cash on something good.

Project CARS 2Project CARS 2

Compatibility: HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

Less of a straight racing videogame than a realistic driving simulator, Project Cars 2 lets players experience what driving is like not just on smooth tarmac race tracks, but also on ice, dirt and mud with the addition of other modes such as rallycross and touring races all of which use realistic physics models to make the experience as close to reality as possible.

Project CARS 2 is currently half price, at £22.49 (GBP) rather than the usual £44.99.

Keep Talking and Nobody ExplodesKeep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Compatibility: HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

Woukd you trust your friends with your life? Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes revolves around one player in VR who’s got a bomb to diffuse, there’s just one problem – how to actually do it. Each bomb is made up of several panels, with wires, dials, timers, codes, symbols and more to figure out. To do this players in the real world have a manual explaining how each particular puzzle works, and it’s only through cooperation and teamwork that avoids everything going boom!

The ultimate test of friendship has a whopping 60% off at present and is available on Steam for a mere £4.39 (GBP) rather than £10.99.

Space Pirate TrainerSpace Pirate Trainer

Compatibility: Windows Mixed Reality, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

“In the case of Space Pirate Trainer the title has built up a pedigree and fan following for one simple reason, playability. Its design and gameplay mechanics aren’t overly difficult or complicated to learn – which is why it’s great as an introductory experience for new VR players – yet for seasoned pros Space Pirate Trainer offers that old school arcade action of ever bigger and more elaborate attacks that try to whittle those lives away as you try to beat your highscore.” – Read VRFocus‘ Senior Writer Peter Graham’s review of Space Pirate Trainer here.

You can purchase the title on Steam at 34% off, for £7.25 (GBP) rather than £10.99.

BattlezoneBattlezone

Compatibility: HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

“Straight from the off, Battlezone lets you know what it is and what you’ll be doing – if you’ve managed to avoid coverage like this. There are no fancy intro screens, video’s, or elongated fluff to wade through, as soon as the videogame starts you’re sat in a hulking tank with lights, screens, levers and all sorts dotted around you. Everything feels and looks solid, giving an overwhelming sense of power and control at your finger tips. The tank design is highly stylized, especially the environments, but the inside isn’t too OTT that this couldn’t be some futuristic concept vehicle.” –  Read our Battlezone review here.

Rebellion have slapped a hefty discount of 66% off on Battlezone, so make sure you buy it now at £10.19 (GBP) rather than the usual cost of £29.99.

I Expect You To DieI Expect You To Die

Compatibility: HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

The spy’s the limit in this VR title that puts you in the shoes of a sterotypical secret agent dealing with situations straight out of the genre from the fifties and sixties. With surprises around every corner and the odds stacked against you it’s only a matter of time before you perish. Or is it?

I Expect You To Die is on sale through Steam for the slightly odd price of £11.39 rather than £18.99. A 40% discount.

Sports Bar VR - checkersSports Bar VR

Compatibility: HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

Another specifically for the Lunar New Year sale, which gives 50% off the regular £14.99 (GBP) price to give you a sale value of £7.49.

Raw Data

Compatibility: HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

Raw Data puts the player in the role of part of the Resistance, who are seeking to bring down the corrupt Eden Corporation, who in the future of 2271, control much of the world. The player can choose from several types of heroes, including Saija the Cyber-Ninja, Bishop the Gun Cleric, or Boss the Street Merc.

Raw Data is on sale now for 30% off its usual price of £29.99 (GBP).

The Solus Project

Compatibility: HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

“Many virtual reality (VR) users are waiting for in-depth experiences which have expansive worlds and tell rich, absorbing, immersive stories. VR is perfectly place to get players involved in an entirely new world, and that’s what The Solus Project aims to do… The first thing that becomes apparent is the atmosphere. Bleak, eerie and uninviting is the surface of the unknown alien planet upon which you find yourself marooned.” Read

‘I Expect You To Die’ Gets New Level & Limited Time 20% Discount

New content for the popular VR puzzle game I Expect You To Die (2016) arrived today on all platforms – a free level named ‘First Class’ available to all current and future players. Schell Games has also begun a week-long 20% discount for the title on all platforms.

The stylish, escape room puzzle game I Expect You To Die originally launched for the Oculus Rift in late 2016, quickly expanding to the PlayStation VR platform in December, and finally to the HTC Vive via Steam in April 2017. While receiving positive reviews for its highly polished gameplay and classic spy-caper presentation, the overriding criticism was for its short length, with only four levels to dig into, leaving most players wanting more.

Thankfully, a fifth level named ‘First Class’ is now available for free, where players will experience a ‘relaxing train ride’ through India, as shown in this teaser trailer:

Schell Games Design Director Shawn Patton acknowledged the need for more content in a recent post on the PlayStation Blog. “We understand this issue is the game’s biggest weakness, and frankly, we feel like it’s a good problem to have,” he writes. “In the end, however, we knew we had to address it.”

Patton goes on to describe the team’s approach to developing First Class, hinting at new interactions and gameplay ideas, but carefully avoids giving away the level details. “Just know that there’s nothing more relaxing than the click-clack of a train as it rolls lazily through the majestic mountains of Northern India,” he continues. “Enjoy a soothing beverage or a local delicacy as you read the morning paper. We believe trains are the best place to meet new friends and catch up with old ones.”

I Expect You To Die has enjoyed sales success; the company announced the title surpassed $1 million in revenue across all sales channels in August 2017, including the Oculus Store, PlayStation Store, Steam, and Amazon.

“I’m so glad we are able to offer fans new content for I Expect You To Die,” stated Jesse Schell, CEO of Schell Games. “They have been so supportive of the game. We really think they’ll enjoy this new free level, and their vacation experience should be unforgettable.”

Schell Games Release Trailer for I Expect You To Die’s ‘First Class’ Update

A few weeks ago Schell Games announced that it would be launching a new update for its popular escape room style videogame I Expect You To Die. Called ‘First Class’, the update will be going live next week so the studio has released a new trailer showcasing what’s in store.

In the update players will find themselves inside a first-class train cabin on the Shimla Tour Express travelling across India, so eat a donut, smoke a cigar, and drink a cup of tea and as always try not to die.

The First Class update will go live on 24th October, and it’ll be free for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR owners.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of I Expect You To Die, reporting back with any further updates.

I Expect You To Die: First-Class-Update erscheint am 24. Oktober [Update]

[Update] Inzwischen ist das First-Class-Update für  I Expect You To Die erschienen.

First-Class-Update für I Expect You To Die bringt neuen Level

Travel Across India in I Expect You To Die’s Next Update for PlayStation VR

Schell Games’ escape room style virtual reality (VR) title I Expect You To Die has proven to be a popular experience with the studio having recently announced earning more than $1 million USD in eight months. Now the developer has revealed the next update will be coming out next month, set on a train journey across India.

Called ‘First Class’, in the update players will find themselves inside a first-class train cabin travelling across the country, as usual however the aim is not to die.

I Expect You to Die FirstClass

The studio has revealed very little about the update apart from those aforementioned details, with Schell Games’ Design Director, Shawn Patton writing on PlayStation.Blog: “The team is super excited to share this new level with you, but, you know the game — we can’t share too much without spoiling things. Just know that there’s nothing more relaxing than the click-clack of a train as it rolls lazily through the majestic mountains of Northern India. Enjoy a soothing beverage or a local delicacy as you read the morning paper. We believe trains are the best place to meet new friends and catch up with old ones.”

The update will be released on 24th October for PlayStation VR. I Expect You To Die also supports Oculus Rift and HTC Vive so the update will likely be for those headsets as well. VRFocus will get confirmation and let you know.

Schell Games’ I Expect You To Die Surpasses $1 Million In Revenue

Schell Games’ I Expect You To Die Surpasses $1 Million In Revenue

Schell Games’ puzzler I Expect You To Die is the latest VR game to join the $1 million or more in revenue club.

The studio announced the news today, clarifying that the revenue was gained across sales on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR (PSVR) headsets. The team also released a new mixed reality video to celebrate the news, which you can see below.

Speaking to UploadVR, Schell Games CEO Jesse Schell said that the company was “very pleased” with what the game has earned so far. While not confirming exactly how profitable it had been, Schell did say that the revenue was helping to fund new VR projects. The game was built by a team of around 20 developers.

I Expect You To Die is a secret agent-themed puzzle game in which you search secret bases and evil lairs, often finding yourself up against vicious traps that will require quick thinking to overcome. We quite liked the game, awarding it 7.5 in our full review and praising its use of motion controls.

“We tried, from the very beginning, not to copy existing game genres, but instead to invent a game that takes advantage of what VR is best at,” Schell said of the game’s success. “Whenever a new platform appears, the people who succeed are the ones who create things for it that couldn’t really work on older platforms.”

Earlier this month, Schell Games confirmed that the game will be getting additional add-on content.

The game joins a growing list of VR titles that have been confirmed to have generated more than $1 million, including the likes of Job Simulator, Arizona Sunshine, and Raw Data. Recently, UploadVR also confirmed that Fantastic Contraption belonged on that list. The install bases for these headsets may be comparatively low to popular gaming consoles and PCs, but success stories like this prove that profitability is possible.

I Expect You To Die was one of a handful of games recently confirmed for launch on Microsoft’s new Windows 10 VR headsets, which should be arriving soon. Schell said that the system’s tracking and controllers were “fairly comparable” to pre-existing headsets. Following its release, the team is working on even more VR and AR titles, with Schell confirming that “about 2/3” of the team’s work is with these technologies.
