Let’s be honest, Japan has some really cool stuff which never makes it to UK shores, whether that’s videogames, tech, merchandise and everything else. When Bandai Namco Entertainment launched Godzilla VR at the Osaka VR Zone arcade in 2018 the expectation was low that it would make it this far. Well, to VRFocus’ surprise Godzilla VR has done just that, now available at the Hollywood Bowl, in the O2, London.
Celebrating 65 years since the first appearance of Godzilla, the experience allows fans to get closer to the iconic monster than ever before in this action-packed videogame. Created by Bandai Namco Amusement Inc. and licensed by Toho Co., Ltd, Godzilla VR puts you in a motion-based seat with dual joystick controls as you pilot an attack helicopter in an effort to save the terrorized city of Tokyo.
To take down the towering Godzilla you must weaken the beast whilst avoiding its attacks. Once sufficiently weakened then you can launch your secret weapon, the ‘Blood Coagulant Missile’, into its mouth to save the day.
“We’re extremely pleased to announce the release of Godzilla VR to the UK and to further expand our library of experiences. This UK release has been brought about by the growing demand in thrilling, active experiences and the great interest the public has in Virtual Reality. Following its London launch, we hope to see Godzilla VR rolled out to further VR Zone Portal locations in 2020,” said Matt Bradley, VR Project Manager for Bandai Namco Amusement Europe Ltd in a statement.
Once again Bandai Namco Amusement Europe is exclusively partnering with HTC Vive, using the Vive Pro head-mounted display (HMD). Graham Wheeler, General Manager for HTC Vive Europe adds: “We are looking forward to working again with Bandai Namco Amusement Europe and Hollywood Bowl on their latest venture. After the resounding success of last year’s Mario Kart partnership, HTC Vive continues to put location-based virtual reality at its forefront for VR fans”.
If you’re in London then head to the O2 arena where you can play Godzilla VR for £4.99 GBP. Whilst there why not check out Mario Kart VR, for £7.99. Both are exclusive to the Hollywood Bowl venue. For further updates keep reading VRFocus.
