Hitman 3 DLC Will Happen, Likely Reimagining Existing Maps
Hitman 3 already offers plenty of content for VR fans, but there might be more in store; Hitman 3 DLC is a go.
In an interview with The Gamer, IO Interactive executive producer Forest Swartout Large confirmed that the studio will “definitely” do DLC for the just-launched game, but don’t expect new maps and bonus missions. “I think for now we are not looking at new maps like the bank and the island,” Large said.
Hitman 3 DLC Confirmed
“We’re more looking at using existing locations and reimagining them, twisting them. And this time around, we can use the whole trilogy. We can look back at Hitman 2016 maps, Hitman 2 maps – we have all the locations.”
Of course, there’s no guarantee that this DLC will definitely support PSVR on PS4 — the bonus missions in Hitman 1 and 2 don’t — but we’ll keep our fingers crossed. Looking further forward, Large said: “We’re continuously working on Hitman so we are already looking to the future.”
We thought Hitman 3’s PSVR support was pretty great, even with some limitations, awarding the game 4/5 in last week’s review. It’s currently exclusive to Sony’s headset (and only available in the PS4 version of the game, not PS5), but there is some hope IO could bring it to PC in the future.
Elsewhere, IO is working on a James Bond game, too, but there’s no word yet on if that could support VR. Again, keep those fingers crossed.

IO Interactive rounds out its World of Assassination trilogy with the launch of Hitman 3 on pretty much every console today. But PS4 players are in for an extra treat; the entire campaign supports the PSVR headset. Better yet, you can important levels from Hitman 1 and 2 and play those in VR too, all with the PS4’s DualShock 4 controller.
Hitman 3 VR Livestream
We already have a full review of the game right over here, but rest assured we think it’s pretty great. The controls can sometimes be a handful and IO has had to make sacrifices to get it to work in VR, but overall it’s an incredibly polished and engaging game with a lot of content on offer.
Join Jamie and Zeena later today as they dive further into the world of assassination. We’ll be playing through some of the levels we’ve already mastered, plus we might take some time to visit Hitman 1 and 2, which we haven’t been able to do just yet. All-in-all there’s a lot to get through, so forget about any other important events today (I can’t think of anything?) and get settled in!
Want more? We’ve got plenty – we also just put up our graphics comparison between PSVR and the original PS4, and our full video review will be coming later today!

Hitman 3 PSVR vs PS4 Graphics Comparison
Much to our relief, IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 is pretty great inside PSVR. But how does it hold up next to the PS4 version? Find out in our Hitman 3 graphics comparison!
As you probably know by now, Hitman 3’s VR support is an optional extra that lets you play the entire campaign inside PSVR, exclusively on PS4. As we said in yesterday’s review, it’s a hugely ambitious undertaking that makes some heavy but sensible sacrifices to get up and running in VR. Below, we go through the opening of the game’s first level to show you some of the differences.
Hitman 3 Graphics Comparison: PSVR vs PS4
Some changes will be obvious. As we move up into the stage, the difference is pretty striking. The bustling crowds seen on PS4 don’t appear in PSVR until you get much closer to them, almost materializing from some sort of invisible fog. Honestly, as big of a difference this may be, it’s handled pretty gracefully in VR and limited to only a handful of scenes in the entire game. More distracting is item pop-in on tables and desks along the way.
There are other obvious differences. Reflections are completely gone in the VR version and scene decorations like shop windows or far-off vistas are often smeared.
But that’s if you compare the game directly to PS4 which, let’s be honest, was always going to turn out like this. Stacked up to other PSVR games, Hitman 3 is still one of the best looking and performing titles we’ve seen in years. Character models retain convincing details and large, sprawling maps are really stunning to behold inside the headset.
IO says playing the game on PS5 will result in faster load times, but it doesn’t sound like there will be too many differences otherwise. If you are opting to play Hitman 3 on PS5, don’t forget you’ll need the PS4 version to access VR support. Luckily, that’s completely free with the game.
