Play Slightly Heroes Anywhere With its new Mobile Companion App

Slightly Heroes is a one vs one first-person shooter for Oculus Go, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR, Google Daydream, Windows Mixed Reality and the Lenovo Mirage Solo. While that extensive range of support should help players find matches developer Hatrabbit Entertainment has now gone one step further this week by releasing a non-VR version for Android devices.

Slightly Heroes

The Slightly Heroes VR Companion app is still very much Early Access, with the studio still in the process of smoothing out any bugs and glitches that may be present. Even so, it now opens the experience to millions of users worldwide, hopefully ensuring you can find a multiplayer match.

“This means the VR players now can challenge friends and families that don’t have a VR headset,” said Hatrabbit Entertainment co-founder Joakim Svarling in an email to VRFocus.  It’s also an initiative to populate the servers with more players. We believe this is a way to invite the non-VR audience to also discover and convert to VR long term.”

With its playful cartoon design Slightly Heroes is a light-hearted combat affair where you can take on another opponent online or practice against AI enemies to learn the feel and layout of the title.

Slightly Heroes

Players take on the role of either a part-time hero or villain like Captain Lawsuit, Agent Meow, and Judge Greg, battling it out with paintball style guns for supremacy. To keep gameplay interesting and dynamic the studio has also given players the option to find and use special weapons and power-ups to cause even more carnage. And the more they play the more characters and weapons will be unlocked.

If you’re on Android then download the free Slightly Heroes VR Companion beta app here, and the regular VR version here for £4.69 GBP. You’ll also find it on the Oculus Store and Steam retailing for £7.19.

Don’t forget the Steam Winter Sale has started today, Slightly Heroes doesn’t feature but there are loads of VR experiences that are on discount if you’re looking for a festive deal. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Hatrabbit Entertainment and its VR projects, reporting back with further announcements.

Cross Platform Multiplayer Shooter Slightly Heroes is Out Now

Indie developer Hatrabbit Entertainment seem to enjoy some virtual reality (VR) fun at Christmas, launching its debut title Merry Snowballs in 2017. Continuing that trend, the studio has now released its second VR experience, a light-hearted, Pixar-inspired first-person shooter (FPS) called Slightly Heroes.

Slightly Heroes

Slightly Heroes is a casual 1vs1 shooter that’s been designed to be as accessible as possible, featuring free locomotion no matter which platform you’re using. Hatrabbit Entertainment has ensured headset support is extensive, Oculus Go, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR, Google Daydream, Windows Mixed Reality and the Lenovo Mirage Solo are all compatible.

The idea of Slightly Heroes is that you take the role of part-time heroes and villains like Captain Lawsuit, Agent Meow, and Judge Greg, brandishing what looks like a paintball gun to dispatch opponents. That’s not all, as players can find special weapons and power-ups to make the fight that bit more interesting.

“We see Slightly Heroes as the Mario Kart for a shooter audience. It’s easy to jump in and play but there’s also plenty of satisfaction for the more hardcore gamers”, says co-founder Andreas Chryssovitsanos in a statement. “The mobile VR space is really missing out on great multiplayer games where you can move around naturally instead of teleporting. Now even the most sensitive players can enjoy free movement action on all platforms”.

As with any VR multiplayer, there’s always that nagging issue regarding trying to find online opponents. Well, the studio has thought of that, adding a solo mode featuring AI opponents for players to practice against ahead of an online battle.

Slightly Heroes isn’t listed on Oculus Store just yet, but it is available via Steam with a limited time discount. Until 18th December there’s 20 percent off, dropping the cost from £7.19 to £5.75 GBP. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Hatrabbit Entertainment, reporting back with any further updates.

Merry Snowballs was original released back in 2016 for via Steam for HTC Vive with support for the Oculus Rift. A few months back it was then updated and released for free on Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard. The new update is somewhat of a surprise release from developer Hatrabbit Entertainment but is a welcome one for sure. Talking about Merry Snowballs back in November of 2017, Andreas Chryssovitsanos, co-founder of Hatrabbit said: “Merry Snowballs is a game for the whole family and we are releasing it for free so more people can experience high quality games. We are also working together with partners like Omnivirt and Advrty in order to explore in-game advertising in VR”.

Designed as a fun title for anyone to jump in and enjoy, reliving the childhood memories of snowball fights. Merry Snowballs allows players to do just that but with the added bonus of having a number of cool gadgets and powerups available to make the experience just that little bit more exciting. With a colorful design and plenty of moments that are sure to make any member of the family smile, the new Woodlands update for Merry Snowballs will give players a reason to jump back in and enjoy the thrill of the snowball fight. ‘Viral Invasion’ Aims to Be ‘Job Simulator’ Meets ‘Mars Attacks!’

We’re all so busy looking at our smartphones and vying for likes on social media that we didn’t bother to check whether we were invaded by a hostile alien species or not; that’s at least the basic premise behind Viral Invasion, a game still in concept phase from Stockholm-based studio Hatrabbit Entertainment.

The object of the game, Hatrabbit says, will be to gather as many human followers as possible with the eventual goal of controlling Earth. As you progress, you unlock new missions, world cities and gadgets with achievements available in various places.

Hatrabbit describes it as a cross between Job Simulator (2016) and Tim Burton’s delectably bad film Mars Attacks! (1996), but with social elements. The studio says you’ll be able to play Viral Invasion solo, in co-op, or in PvP mode.

The poor egg-shaped humans are designed to make great objects for vacuuming, golfing, swatting with a tennis racket, and shooting at targets—whatever causes the most havoc while gaining followers. Watch out for cats though, because they’ll instantly steal your followers when they’re around.

The studio hasn’t made any firm commitments regarding specific headset support, only saying that they aim to build support for VR-platforms with six degrees of freedom (6DoF) positional movement, although there’s the possibility they’ll expand further into other platforms.

The studio released their first VR game, Merry Snowballs (2017), last December on Vive and Rift. The room-scale game proved to be a highly polished experience among users.

Because it’s still a concept, there’s no release date as such – although Hatrabbit has a sign-up form for prospective beta testers, which they say will help them gauge interest in the game. Sign up for beta testing here.

Merry Snowballs Are Being Thrown at VR Players Today

Hatrabbit Entertainment has today launched a new edition of Merry Snowballs. Available now for Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR and Google Carboard, Merry Snowballs is a videogame designed for mobile virtual reality (VR) which is free for all to download.

Merry Snowballs screenshotEssentially a wave shooter, Merry Snowballs will let you relive your childhood snowball fights with tons of gadgets and powerups you once wish you had. You will battle against the fierce neighborhood kids, blow Angry Gingerbread men to pieces and fight your way to the end where Bad Santa awaits in an Epic Battle.

Players can collect numerous power-ups to assist them in the videogame, including snow guns, shields, blizzards and extra lives. However, you must and use them wisely to progress as far as possible through the 25 increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Merry Snowballs features a number of boss fights, culminating in a grand battle against a very menacing looking Santa Claus.

In the Google Cardboard version of Merry Snowballs, players can also choose to play the videogame in one of three different gameplay modes: VR, 360 mode or with virtual joysticks. All versions of the videogame will feature an online global leaderboard system allowing players to compete with friends regardless of which platform they play on.

“This game shows that we can reach a wide audience without compromising on quality. The Cardboard version is a great example of that where we’ve also given players the ability to play the game in different modes,” said Andreas Chryssovitsanos, co-founder of Hatrabbit.

Merry Snowballs screenshotMerry Snowballs originally launched for HTC Vive, via Steam, last December. That edition of the videogame is also compatible, but not specifically designed for, Oculus Rift. The PC edition of Merry Snowballs is priced at £4.79 GBP.

Now available to download for Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard, Merry Snowballs is free-to-play on mobile VR devices, supported by in-game advertising. Founded by a team of experienced videogame developers, Stockholm-based Hatrabbit Entertainment is also working on further VR titles, set for release in early 2018. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details from the studio.

Get into the Holiday Spirit by Throwing VR Snowballs

Hatrabbit Entertainment has revealed intentions to explore the future of mobile virtual reality (VR) videogame development with a free release designed for the whole family. Merry Snowballs is coming to Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard in December 2017, and will be freely available to all.

Merry Snowballs screenshotAfter first releasing the videogame on Steam last year, built for HTC Vive but also compatible with Oculus Rift, an upgraded version of Merry Snowballs will now be launched for free on all leading mobile VR Platforms. A single-player experience, players must survive through 25 waves of increasing difficulty, battling against Theo, Blondie, Big Joe and Lily, the next-door kids that share one goal: to make your life more difficult.

“Mobile VR is a natural step in our journey of exploring the market and Merry Snowballs is a perfect fit on these platforms,” said Andreas Chryssovitsanos, co-founder of Hatrabbit. “Merry Snowballs is a game for the whole family and we are releasing it for free so more people can experience high quality games. We are also working together with partners like Omnivirt and Advrty in order to explore in-game advertising in VR.”

Omnivert will allow for direct integration and distribution of immersive 360 degree content within the mobile head-mounted display (HMD). Similar to that of mobile app advertising, Omnivert can distribute 360 degree advertisements at developer-allocated locations. Advrty also allows for direct integration in VR applications, however in a much more subtle fashion; in the case of Merry Snowballs, advertisements can be placed discretely on in-game assets, such as billboards, and updated live in accordance to the latest advertisers and campaigns.

Merry Snowballs screenshotMerry Snowballs is currently set to launch on Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard in December 2017. The videogame will come complete with global online leaderboards so you can compete with your friends, regardless of which mobile HMD they own.

Founded by developers who have worked on numerous AAA videogame titles, including Angry Birds 2, Mirror’s Edge, Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, Hatrabbit Entertainment is simultaneously working on their next project expecting to launch early 2018, and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details.
