Try to Survive Green Hell VR on PC VR & Oculus Quest in 2021

Green Hell VR

Incuvo, the Polish developer behind the virtual reality (VR) versions of Bloober Team’s Layers of Fear and Blair Witch has announced its next port. The studio is working with Creepy Jar on Green Hell VR, an open world survival videogame slated for release next year.

Green Hell

Creepy Jar launched Green Hell in 2019, receiving ‘Very Positive’ ratings from the Steam community in the process. The survival sim dumps players in the Amazon rainforest without any food or equipment, challenging them to find a way out by learning survival techniques, making tools and building shelters whilst fighting hunger, thirst, fatigue, disease and even mental health.

All of this will then be coming to PC VR headsets and Oculus Quest in late 2021 confirms Incuvo. From the details released so far the team are trying to include all the original elements whilst catering to VR’s immersive requirements. If the recent Blair Witch: Oculus Quest Edition is anything to go by Green Hell VR should be in good hands.

“We have recently completed the pre-production phase of our latest project with survival elements, Green Hell VR. We are currently at the stage of preparing the alpha version, which in Q1 2021 will show recipients the huge potential of this survival game in virtual reality. We focus on implementing the latest mechanics in order to achieve exceptional immersion. We make every effort to ensure that the final project meets the expectations of the players, which, as we know, are big, ” said Andrzej Wychowaniec, CEO of Incuvo in a statement

Once the alpha testing has been completed the team expect the beta version of the project should be ready by Q2 2021.

Currently, Green Hell VR is scheduled for release Q3 2021 for SteamVR headsets and Oculus Rift, with an Oculus Quest version arriving Q4 2021. For further updates on the survival experience, keep reading VRFocus.

Green Hell VR Confirmed For Quest, PC In 2021

First spotted back in April of this year, first-person survival game Green Hell is getting a VR version, and we now know what platforms it’s coming to.

European studio Incuvo today confirmed it’s working on the port of Creepy Jar’s gory PC title. It will come to PC VR headsets in Q3 of 2021 before arriving on the Oculus Quest later on in the year. Incuvo also says it will run an alpha test ahead of release. Check out some images of the game below.

Green Hell VR Confirmed

Green Hell VR Bow and Arrow

In Green Hell, you find yourself lost in the Amazon rainforest and must do what you can to survive. That will involve the usual survival staples like crafting weapons, using them to hunt for food and avoiding dangers. There is, however, some story to it, as players follow a familiar voice on a radio, tracing their steps back to how they found themselves in this mess.

Incuvo says it’s playing with a number of the game’s existing mechanics in the VR port, like making a bow and arrow more intuitive to use. We’ve also asked if cooperative multiplayer support will be included, as it features in the main game.

It looks pretty similar to The Forest, so it will be interesting to see how the VR support works out.

The developer previously worked with Bloober on a VR version of Layers of Fear — which we weren’t too keen on — and October’s Blair Witch: Oculus Quest Edition, which we thought was a great port. Hopefully Green Hell carries that momentum, then.

Jungle Survival Horror Game Green Hell Is Getting VR Support

Get ready to sweat; gruelling jungle survival game Green Hell is getting VR support at some point in the future.

Developed by Poland-based Creepy Jar, Green Hell pits players in an Amazonian rainforest and tasks them with staying alive. You’ll have to hunt for food, build shelters and avoid natural hazards, including some pretty aggressive and gross-looking wildlife.

Since its full launch last year Creepy Jar has been keeping the game up-to-date with new modes like the recent addition of co-op support. However, a listing for the company on Reuters confirmed in mid-March that it had signed a deal with another developer, Incuvo, to develop and publish a VR version of the game. The team will, apparently, be responsible for the game’s marketing and release too.

Incuvo is also the developer that ported popular horror game Layers of Fear to VR in late 2019. We’ll have a review of that port in the near future, which might give some indication of what to expect.

There’s little else in the way of details right now. We don’t know exactly what platforms the game will be releasing on, though PC VR is a good bet. We also don’t have a window for release and we don’t know if the VR version will be free to existing owners or not. Co-op support and other features are similarly yet to be confirmed.

That aside, this could be a pretty interesting take on the VR survival genre, akin to other efforts like The Forest. Will you be checking out Green Hell when its VR version arrives? Let us know in the comments below!
