Reborn: A Samurai Awakens Hits US & EU PlayStation VR Store

The last time VRFocus heard anything about PlayStation VR exclusive Reborn: A Samurai Awakens was over a year ago, just prior to the Taipei Game Show 2018. This week CIRCLE Entertainment and developer Geronimo Interactive (Pixel Gear) have released the futuristic sword-fighting experience for both North American and European gamers.

Reborn: A Samurai Awakens

Set in a far-flung future where mankind is being attacked by robotic invaders the natural course of action is to resurrect an ancient samurai to defeat them all. Looking like some sort of badass samurai robot yourself, you’re armed with a collection of melee and ranged weaponry to defeat these troublesome enemies.

Not only do you have dual laser katanas for when enemies get too close and pistols for when they’re out of reach, but you’ll also have psychic powers to manipulate objects and do further damage. Whilst sword-fighting you’ll be able to block attacks which will then unlock a timewarp ability to unleash special attacks.

As progression is made through the robot base, destroying guards and massive bosses like Sumo Rikishi Boss and Japanese Warlord, Date Masamune, you’ll have the option to customise weapons and equip different skills as the challenges change.

Reborn: A Samurai Awakens will be going up against another ninja VR experience which has already done very well, Sairento VR. The latter title arrived in the summer for PlayStation VR offering ninja-like reflexes which VRFocus highly rated when reviewing the PC VR version, saying. “Sairento VR is one of the best free-flowing combat titles available for VR headsets, showcasing how far development of VR locomotion has come.”

Available to download now, Reborn: A Samurai Awakens retails on PlayStation Store for £11.99 GBP/$14.99 USD/€14.99 EUR. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Geronimo Interactive, reporting back with further VR updates.

New Pixel Gear Multiplayer Trailer Revealed

Following the launch of a new multiplayer mode for the PlayStation VR exclusive Pixel Gear earlier this month, publisher Oasis Games Ltd. has revealed a new gameplay trailer. The multiplayer update is available for free to all owners of Pixel Gear and is designed to encourage local competitive gameplay.

Pixel Gear is a 3D shoot-‘em-up title, in which the multiplayer additions see one player utilising the PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD) while up to three competitors use the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controllers in 1 vs 1, 1 vs 2 or 1 vs 3 gameplay modes. The player in VR uses a laser pistol with unlimited ammo to prevent other players from collecting coins, while those playing with a DualShock 4 controller must avoid getting caught.

Pixel Gear is currently available to download exclusively for PlayStation VR via the PlayStation Store. The brand new trailer for the videogame follows below and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest from Oasis Games.

Oasis Games Adds New Multiplayer to PlayStation VR Exclusive Pixel Gear

Not long after Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) launched PlayStation VR back in October, Chinese publisher Oasis Games released its second title for the platform, Pixel Gear. Today the studio has announced the first update, changing the single-player videogame into a multiplayer.

Rather than an online multiplayer, Oasis Games has instead chosen a local multiplayer route, enabling up to three players can join the action with a DualShock controller, offering 1 vs 1, 1 vs 2 and 1 vs 3 game modes.

For this new mode the player wearing the PlayStation VR uses a PlayStation Move controller to wield a laser pistol with unlimited ammo. They must then stop the other players from collecting enough coins in the allotted time. The other gamers playing on the TV will be disguised as monsters from the single-player game mode, or various objects to fool the player in virtual reality (VR). The local players also have several other tricks available to avoid getting caught.

And whoever is wearing the PlayStation VR must choose their shots wisely. They may have unlimited ammo, but shooting a monster or object not controlled by another player will give the local team coins helping them reach their goal.

Developed by Geronimo Interactive and published by Oasis Games in North America, Europe and select countries in Asia, Pixel Gear can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store for $10.99 USD.

Pixel Gear Launch Trailer Showcases the Gun Toting Action for PlayStation VR

Earlier today VRFocus reported on Chinese publisher Oasis Games launching first-person shooter (FPS) Pixel Gear for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) PlayStation VR. Developed by Geronimo Interactive, Pixel Gear is a wave-based FPS with a ghoulish theme and to celebrate the launch and brand new trailer has been released.

Only a very short introduction to the videogame, the trailer none the less showcases what’s in store for players as they stand on an elevated mound to get a good view of the surrounding battlefield. Using a mixture of weaponry players will do battle against hordes of evil Halloween nasties, including witches, skeletons, bats, undead knights and ghouls.

The aim is to clear the waves with the highest score possible, building combos with multi kills and so forth. There are six levels to work through each with a boss at the end. A couple can be seen in the video, a giant dragon can be seen flying overhead in one shot and the trailer ends with a massive rock/lava type monster jumping out of the ground.

To help players on their way there are multiple guns and powerups to unlock, offering greater firepower, longer range, and time slowing abilities.

PlayStation Plus members also get a 20 percent discount off the regular price for a limited time. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Oasis Games, reporting back with any further updates.

It’s Time to Slay Some Halloween Monsters on Pixel Gear for PlayStation VR

Chinese publisher Oasis Games is set to become on of the most prolific on PlayStation VR with five titles planned for the system. Developer Time of Virtual Reality’s (TVR) Ace Banana was released on launch day and now Pixel Gear from Geronimo Interactive has arrived.

An exclusive PlayStation VR title, Pixel Gear is a wave-based shooter with a Halloween theme, enemies include witches, skeletons, bats, undead knights and ghouls. Featuring six levels, the videogame isn’t a serious horror first-person shooter (FPS), instead when enemies and objects are shot they’ll exhibit entertaining reactions.

There’s a mixture of upgradeable weapons and power-ups that grant the ability to slow down or even stop time, all of which will come in useful as the end of each level includes a boss battle. Players will need to keep their cool in the onslaught as innocent angels will appear that shouldn’t be shot, if that happens, harming them will also harm the player.

Pixel Gear will start players off with a default laser pistol with unlimited ammo, but this won’t be enough for the latter stages. Coins will be earned for kills and progress which can then be spent on new weaponry and upgrades. Extra firepower includes submachine pistols, the long range sniper rifle.

“Pixel Gear is a wonderful introduction to PlayStation VR gaming with its vibrant 3D pixel graphics, easy to pick-up and play controls, and fun level of challenge that everyone in the family can enjoy,” said Alen Wu, business director at Oasis Games. “The look resonates well with kids, and it’s easy to grab your pixel gun and step into the colourful world filled with nonstop action where you must aim and destroy attacking ghosts and goblins before they get you!”

The title costs £8.99 GBP, but from today until 3rd November 2016, Pixel Gear will be offering a 20 percent discount to PlayStation Plus members, dropping the price to £7.19.

VRFocus will continue its PlayStation VR coverage, reporting back with any further updates.
