Geoff Keighley: Playing Half-Life: Alyx ‘Reminds Me Why I Love This Industry’
Geoff Keighley has responded to some questions on Half-Life: Alyx in an Ask Me Anything post on Reddit.
While a lot of the questions asked were in relation to The Game Awards, coming next week, Geoff did respond to a few Half-Life: Alyx questions as well.
The first question, and response, was as follows:
u/VortexTV: On a scale of 1 to 10, how crazy would you rate Half-Life: Alyx?
Geoff: Crazy? It’s just really good. Playing a game like that reminds me why I love this industry and have devoted my life to celebrating it. You guys will love it, I promise.
Geoff recently got to play the entire game through from start to finish, which is why he’s able to comment vaguely on it, as per above. He’s also working on a new entry in his “Final Hours” series of articles that have previously chronicled the development of past Half-Life, and Valve, games. He talked a bit about working on a new Final Hours project for Half-Life: Alyx as well, responding to a question from Tyler of the Valve News Network about whether his involvement with The Game Awards has interfered with working on a new entry on the Final Hours series.
Geoff made it clear that while The Game Awards is a lot of work, he hadn’t found a project that motivated him to write a new entry in the series before Alyx. “I just hadn’t really been motivated to write another Final Hours. I have to find the right story to tell because those stories take months and months of work.”
Tyler also asked Geoff what we could expect from the Half-Life: Alyx content that has been teased for The Game Awards next week, but Geoff didn’t respond that part of the question.
The Game Awards ceremony will take place next week on December 12, and we’re expecting to hear more news on Half-Life: Alyx then.

More Half-Life: Alyx Info Coming At The Game Awards On December 12
After today’s reveal and subsequent info-dump of Half-Life: Alyx content, Geoff Keighley announced that there’s more to come at The Game Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place early next month on December 12.
Valve revealed Half-Life: Alyx yesterday after much speculation and a long-awaited confirmation earlier in the week. The game places you in the shoes of Alyx Vance from Half-Life 2 and serves as a prequel, set between the events of Half-Life 1 and 2.
The game was built from the ground-up for VR and won’t be coming to traditional PC displays. However, it will work with any SteamVR headset with motion controllers, granted you have a computer that meets the minimum requirements as well.
We got a beautiful and exhilarating first look at the game in the reveal trailer yesterday. We’ve also covered a bunch of other new details on the game, including support for ‘community built environments‘, the locomotion options available, and some of the exclusive optional interactions that are only available with Valve Index controllers.
However, it won’t be long before we get even more details, and hopefully some more footage, of Half-Life: Alyx. On Twitter yesterday, Geoff Keighley wrote, “Stay tuned to #TheGameAwards on December 12 for more on Half-Life: Alyx, and lots more to tell in 2020!”
Fingers crossed that we get another trailer or a proper look at some gameplay at The Game Awards. It won’t be the only VR component of the night though – The Game Awards will also feature a Best VR/AR Game category, for which Beat Saber, Blood & Truth, Asgard’s Wrath and more are nominated this year.
You pre-purchase Half-Life: Alyx on Steam, however Valve Index owners (or owners of Valve Index controllers) will receive the game for free when it releases in March 2020.
