Walkabout Mini Golf Adds 8th Course, Featuring New Wind Mechanics
Walkabout Mini Golf adds a new course today called Quixote Valley, available on all supported platforms in a free update.
The course is the game’s eighth, with both a day and night mode available. As you can see from the screenshots and teaser trailer, Quixote Valley is set among a rocky cluster of quaint windmills, a classic staple of most real life mini golf course. In Quixote Valley, you won’t just be dealing with one or two flimsy windmills though — there’s a whole fleet of them to contend with here.
However, the new map also brings with it some appropriate new mechanics. You can’t have windmills without wind, so you can expect to face a bit more resistance from the forces of nature on this map, thanks to the new wind mechanics. In select areas of the new map, players will now have to account for wind potentially affecting the trajectory of the ball when lining up their shot.
Walkabout Mini Golf started its life as a mobile game, before being ported over to Oculus Quest for release in late 2020. A SteamVR release followed this year in July, with support for cross-platform play. Starting with just four courses at launch, this latest content update rounds out the selection to eight maps, with normal and hard variations for each.
Back in July, Lucas Martell, lead developer of Walkabout Mini Golf, told us that Quixote Valley would be the last course added to the base game as a free update. Future maps will arrive in small DLC packages, the first of which will includes three courses and is already being worked on.
The Quixote Valley update is available now for Walkabout Mini Golf on Oculus Quest and PC VR via Steam.
Watch: 7-Minutes Of Alvo VR Gameplay On PSVR With Aim Controller, Coming This April
Alvo is a military-themed fast-paced competitive VR shooter coming first to PSVR next month, followed by Quest and PC VR after that. Currently it’s aiming to release on PSVR on April 12 after months of beta testing, but the date could shift slightly depending on approvals from Sony.
Alvo VR Gameplay
From what we’ve seen Alvo looks comparable to the likes of Pavlov and Contractors in that it’s much faster pace than something like Onward or Firewall Zero Hour. Movement flexibility is a big part of Alvo, which is why everyone will be able to jump and slide just like you can in non-VR games like Call of Duty. However, of those four games listed only Firewall Zero Hour is on PSVR so there’s far less FPS competition compared to other VR platforms.
In the new footage above (provided by the developers) there’s about five minutes of Search & Destroy gameplay from the point-of-view of someone playing on PSVR using the Aim Controller and then the rest of the video is someone on Rift showing PC VR footage. Briefly, you’ll see the camera fly around in spectator mode, which will be a PC VR-exclusive features to help with esports broadcasting—similar to the spectator cameras in games like Echo Arena and Onward.
The PC VR and Quest versions should be coming this year as well, but they don’t have dates yet. For Quest, they’ve already done a lot of the optimization across the maps to get it ready. It’s worth noting that the Quest edition will be sideloaded on SideQuest (and eventually App Lab) at first if full Store approval isn’t granted. But hopefully being on PSVR will already mean the game is in good enough shape for the main Store.
In a Discord conversation one of the developers told me that they were targeting April 12th as the launch date on PSVR, but it could shift depending on some factors and timing. There will be full cross-play between all three platforms when the time comes.
For more on Alvo, check out the game’s Discord server, YouTube channel, and Twitter to stay up-to-date.
Watch: No Man’s Sky PSVR Update For PS5 Looks Incredible
Today Hello Games released No Man’s Sky Patch 3.15 and after spending a good bit of time with it we can confirm that there are some significant improvements for the PSVR version of the game when running on PS5. As far as we know, these updates are just for when the game runs on a PS5, not a PS4 Pro.
No Man’s Sky PSVR on PS5
In the patch notes they simply state “resolution and performance for PSVR have been significantly improved when running on a PS5” and “loading times on PS5 have been improved” but I’m here to tell you it looks and feels even more dramatic than they’re leading on.
You might recall that back when No Man’s Sky first got VR support the PC VR and PSVR versions could not have been further apart in terms of visual fidelity. The differences were so stark we released two separate reviews (PC VR review and PSVR review) to reflect the disparity and showcased the visual downgrade in a comparison video.
Long story short it was super blurry on PSVR with PS4 and was a pain to play. For some good comparison shots of the game running yesterday on PS5, before the update, versus today, after Patch 3.15, we can turn to Twitter user Jimster71:

I’ll definitely say that, even though you can clearly tell the difference in these shots, they don’t do the enhancement justice. As someone that wears glasses, it feels a bit like having blurry vision from smudged lenses or your contacts not sitting on your eyes properly, and then getting your glasses cleaned or your prescription updated. Or, in other words, previously it just always felt like your VR headset wasn’t positioned right and you were having trouble finding the sweet spot. Now it’s crisp and clear.
Make no mistake: this is still the same game, but it just looks so much better overall and plays so much more smoothly.
Texture pop-in is improved as well, as-is overall performance and stability, but it’s still a far ways off from the PC VR version (when running well) in terms of sheer visual fidelity. You can especially notice the texture pop-in issues when you crest over a mountain and start to descend with vegetation and objects gradually appearing in the distance.
I only played for about 45-minutes, just long enough to take off from my starting planet on a new save file, but I can already feel the allure of infinite galaxies pulling for me to dive back in.
No Man’s Sky is one of the greatest comeback stories in video game history and Hello Games continues to make it bigger and better every few months with free updates and content releases. It’s remarkable and commendable what they’ve done here.
Let us know if you decide to give the game a try on PS5 with PSVR and let us know what you think. Keep in mind, to play in PSVR on PS5 you need to make sure and install the PS4 version, not the PS5 version of the game. Both are available as a bundled purchase on PSN right now for $59.99, but it’s often on sale if you’d rather wait.
