Gambit! Releases This Week, New Municipal Mayhem PvP Mode Revealed

After multiple delays, Gambit! is set to release this week on April 6 for Quest and PC VR.

XREAL Games, the team behind Zero Caliber VR, first unveiled the co-operative VR heist shooter back in 2020. Initially set to release in 2021, it then faced delays to May 2022 and then again to December 2022. The day before its December 2022 release, it was pushed once again to Q1 2023. However, the release now seems set in stone, with a Quest store page live and a new date set for later this week on April 6.

We spoke to XREAL Games about the content that will be available at release and the changes made in light of the continued delays. Since the end of last year, XREAL Games told us that the team has been “focusing on core gameplay polish and optimisation, moving the HUD to a wrist watch, cross-play server stability” and more.

The team also revealed a new multiplayer PvP mode available at launch called Municipal Mayhem. You can check out some footage of the mode above, but the gist is that it’s basically a short and sweet, Battle Royale-like PvP mode for four players. The last man standing wins, with the emphasis truly on short sessions with matches that should only last around 2-5 minutes each.

Players will collect points in Municipal Mayhem (200 for 1st place, scaling down to -100 for 4th place), which will move them up and down on a tournament ladder and progress towards unlocks for new masks, skins and other content.

Alongside Municipal Mayhem and a classic four-player Deathmatch PvP mode, Gambit! will of course also feature a main campaign mode, playable in single player or co-op with up to four players. Previously, XReal Games promised a 20+ hour campaign for the game. When UploadVR asked about estimated campaign playtime ahead of launch this week, XREAL Games said the studio would rather not make any public estimations.

There’s also a new game mode in the works called Consumer Cleanup, which is a zombie mode “with a twist” that also includes a “completely new campaign narrative.” However, it won’t make it into the game for release – XREAL Games says it will arrive as a post-launch update instead and claims it will double the game’s playtime.

Gambit! is available later this week on Quest and PC VR for $19.99, with full cross-platform play support on day one.

Co-op Shooter ‘Gambit’ Gets First Gameplay Trailer, Coming to Quest 2 & PC VR This Year

Gambit is a VR co-op shooter from the studio behind well known multiplayer VR shooter Zero Caliber. The forthcoming title has been in the works for at least two years now and today saw the reveal of its first gameplay trailer.

Gambit is a four player VR co-op shooter heading to PC VR and Quest 2 this year. The game was first revealed all the way back in 2020 and was planned for a 2021 release, but clearly that didn’t happen. Today during the UploadVR Showcase, the studio offered up a first look at some gameplay and now says the game will launch this year:

The trailer doesn’t give us a comprehensive idea of how it will play, but developer XREAL Games has made some ambitious promises for the game.

“a campaign that takes 20+ hours to plunder, 9 levels in 3 chapters, 4-player co-op, dozens of guns, a myriad of attachments, skins, masks, deathmatch, tournament ladders, minigames, leaderboards, climbing, graffiti, hidden rewards, the GNOP, bossfights, free updates, dedicated customer support, and so on,” the studio writes on the game’s steam page.

Oh and don’t forget cross-platform multiplayer, which will allow Quest 2 and PC VR players to player together when the game launches later this year.

Gambit: 4-Player Co-Op VR Shooter Coming 2022, New Trailer Revealed

We’ve just got our first look at gameplay from upcoming VR co-op shooter, Gambit.

The story-focused (and profanity-laden) trailer made its debut at the Upload VR Showcase. It gives us our first glimpse of in-game footage of the long-in-development shooter, which has echoes of classic co-op titles like the Payday series. Check it out below.

Gambit Trailer Revealed

In the game, four players — taking on the roles of  Frank, Udo, Cody, and Kevin — complete heist-style missions, overcoming the odds in firefights and stealing loot. You’ll tear through levels with friends, climbing over obstacles and working together.

The trailer reveals a train yard style level where players fight drones, take out surveillance equipment. It also hints at the game’s wider story, which our band of misfits seemingly in hot water.

XREAL is promising a 20+ hour campaign for the game, with nine levels split across three chapters. You’ll be able to unlock an extensive arsenal of weaponry, unlock skins and masks, play minigames and also take part in PvP events. The game will also get free updates post-launch.

Gambit is in the works at XREAL, the VR developer best known for games like A-Tech Cybernetic and Zero Caliber. Currently the game’s on track for a release on Quest 2 and PC VR later this year. No other headsets have been confirmed at this time.

We’ve got plenty more to talk about at the Upload VR Showcase today. Make sure to tune in. What did you make of the gameplay reveal for Gambit? Let us know in the comments below!

Original Article (February 9th, 2022)Gambit! was first revealed around a year and half ago, promising a campaign-driven adventure full of guns, gangs, mayhem, and rock and roll. Although originally hoping to launch in 2021, now the team says it’s coming in Q2 2022.

Back then we only had a brief teaser to go on (seen below), however the game’s more recent Steam page shows off a bit more of what to expect, including a few new images.

XREAL says Gambit! will feature “20+ hours” of gameplay, that span nine levels across three chapters.

The four-player co-op missions are also said to include “dozens of guns, a myriad of attachments, skins, masks, deathmatch, tournament ladders, minigames, leaderboards, climbing, graffiti, hidden rewards, the GNOP, bossfights, free updates, dedicated customer support, and so on.”

We’re still waiting for the big gameplay reveal, although with the start of Q2 coming on April 1st, we may be getting a peek sometime soon. In the meantime we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled on the game’s Twitter for more info as it arrives.

VR Co-Op Shooter Gambit Resurfaces, Coming To Quest 2, PC VR Soon

Zero Caliber developer XREAL has re-revealed its co-op VR shooter, Gambit, and it should be coming soon.

Gambit was first announced back in 2020 but has since been missing in action as XREAL concentrated on bringing Zero Caliber to Quest. It’s being developed by the studio’s secondary team named 2nd Gig. This month the developer relaunched the game’s Steam page, confirming it’s aiming to release on PC VR and Quest 2 in May of this year, though it notes that date may change. Check out the 2020 teaser trailer for the game below (though, obviously, ignore that 2021 release window).

Gambit VR Shooter Returns

Two years may have passed but Gambit’s premise remains the same, it’s got a story-driven campaign for up to four players in which you pull off heists and unlock new weapons and cosmetic items. The game will feature boss fights, climbing mechanics, and a weapon attachment system across nine levels with three chapters each. Screenshots shows players using bows and chainsaws as well as dual-wielding firearms. There’s also a graffiti system in place.

XREAL also says the game will have a PvP mode and that there will be full cross-play between PC VR and Quest. Elsewhere, the team continues to work on the PC VR version of Zero Caliber, which remains in early access and is hoping to bring that project to PSVR, too. No word yet on if Gambit could also come to Sony’s headset, though we’ll keep our fingers crossed for a PSVR 2 version. You can keep up with the game over on the developer’s Discord channel.

Co-op Shooter Gambit! Resurfaces, Coming to PC VR & Quest 2 This Spring

18 months ago XREAL Games (Zero Caliber) teased a new virtual reality (VR) title it was working on, a co-op shooter called Gambit! The premise sounded good but then it all went quiet. Until today that is, with a new Steam page appearing, screenshots, gameplay details, launch window and supported headsets.

Gambit

Set to offer both single-player and multiplayer modes, Gambit! is described as a “buddy adventure” where you and three mates work together to unleash some carnage across a 20+ hour campaign (9 levels over 3 chapters). There’s no gameplay footage just yet but the screenshots highlight an abundance of enemies, an assortment of weapons and some awesome looking visuals.

Players will have the option to select from four different characters, each with their own unique special weapon and style. We’ll have access to chainsaws, pistols, SMGs, and more, all of which can be customised with attachments, skins, and charms.

Gambit! might be built around cooperative gameplay but it won’t purely rely on it. There will be competitive leaderboards, tournament ladders and a PvP mode to keep you busy. And when you’re not fighting enemies or trying to beat a boss, there are mini-games to play, hidden areas to find, and graffiti boards with adjustable spray cans to get creative with.

Gambit

Gambit! has got some serious competition in the co-op arena with Vertigo Games’ After the Fall released just before Christmas. It did very well at launch, managing to achieve $1.4 million in revenue during its first 24 hours. Also due for release in 2022 are SIN and Green Hell VR sporting co-op features.

Being developed by a subsidiary team within XREAL Games, Gambit! is currently slated for a Q2 2022 release – May at the moment – for PC VR and Meta Quest 2 headsets. It’ll also support cross-play. As for Zero Caliber, the studio will still support the videogame through 2022 with further updates to come. As gmw3 learns more about Gambit! we’ll keep you updated.

Gambit Is A 4 Player Co-Op Shooter From The Developers Of Zero Caliber

Looking for your next VR co-op shooter? Gambit might have you covered.

Announced this month with the brief teaser trailer below, Gambit is the new shooter from XREAL Games, the team behind A-Tech Cybernetic and Zero Caliber VR, developed in partnership with 2ndGig. Alongside the teaser, there’s some poster art revealing the game’s playable characters, too.

Gambit features a full campaign for anywhere between one to four players. Cast as a gang of mercenaries on the run after botching a recent job, you’ll blast your way through nine areas separated into three different levels in a ‘pre-apocalyptic’ world (as in, everything is about to turn to crap).

The poster shows each character holding different types of weapons, so perhaps we can expect some class-based systems. If Gambit manages to replicate the addictive co-op gameplay of titles like Left 4 Dead, then it could have real staying power within the VR community. The game will also feature a competitive multiplayer mode to boot. More details, including a gameplay reveal, will be arriving later this year. No word on if there could be possible Quest or PSVR versions just yet.

XREAL is behind some solid shooters, so we’ll be looking forward to seeing more from this. A-Tech Cybernetic may have aged by today’s standards, but Zero Caliber offers fun multiplayer action. Let’s hope the team builds on that with this latest project.

Gambit is due for launch on PC VR headsets sometime next year. Looking forward to the game? Let us know in the comments below!

‘Zero Caliber VR’ Studio Announces 4-Player Co-op Shooter ‘Gambit!’, Coming 2021

XREAL Games, the studio behind co-op VR shooter Zero Caliber VR (2018), and 2ndGig announced a new co-op shooter headed to PC VR headsets in 2021. Called Gambit!, the upcoming game tosses four players into what the creators call “a road movie style adventure full of tracks and guns and rock and roll.”

The creators say Gambit! follows four mercenaries who botch an important job and infuriate an influential client.

The creators say Gambit’s campaign will be broken into three chapters, each of which includes three “large” maps. The shooter is also said to include a diverse range of weapons and unlockable content, and can be played in both single or four-player co-op via campaign mode. A multiplayer deathmatch is also planned.

There’s precious little to tell from the teaser (linked below), however XREAL and 2ndGig promise a gameplay reveal video sometime this fall, which should arrive with some more details too.

If it’s anything like XREAL’s Zero Caliber VR or more recent shooter A-Tech Cybernetic (2020), it’s likely the game will first head into Early Access before its full release.

Zero Caliber Creator XREAL Games Teases 4-Player Co-op ‘Gambit!’

Gambit Poster

Virtual reality (VR) XREAL Games is known for its shooters, having previously released sci-fi horror A-Tech Cybernetic and military FPS Zero Caliber. Back in February the studio detailed plans for both of these videogames whilst noting that another project was on the cards. Today, the first teasing details have been revealed for Gambit!.

Unlike its previous titles, XREAL Games has gone for a co-op multiplayer with Gambit! Supporting up to four players, it’s going to be an action experience designed for PC VR headsets.

“Set in a pre-apocalyptic world slowly moving towards its demise, Gambit! follows four close-knit mercenaries, whose life is turned upside down after they blow their biggest assignment yet, infuriating their influential client,” explains the studio’s synopsis.

The gameplay will be split between three chapters, each consisting of large maps filled with unlockable content to find. Players will have access to a diverse selection of weapons and from the sounds of it there’ll be leveling up involved to encourage players to keep returning, accessing further kit the more time and effort is put in.

Zero Caliber

Gambit! isn’t a purely multiplayer title as the campaign is also playable solo. When mates are available there will be a deathmatch feature so they can go head-to-head if cooperating on the battlefield gets boring.

No gameplay footage or screenshots have been released at the moment, XREAL Games plans on doing that later this year. Currently, Gambit! is expected to arrive in 2021.

In addition to Gambit!, the studio is also working on the PlayStation VR port of Zero Caliber. Previously slated for a release in Q2 this year, that’s now been moved to Q3 2020. As XREAL Games releases further updates VRFocus will let you know.
