Virtual Cat Konrad the Kitten Gets Into the Halloween Spirit

Virtual pet Konrad the Kitten came to PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality earlier this year, bringing a dose of cuteness to virtual reality (VR). Now the kitten is up for a dose of spooky fun in the latest update to come from developer FusionPlay.

Update 1.4 is titled ‘Get Spooky’ and adds a Halloween event to the title, giving a spooky feel with some theming, including new music, lighting and decoration. Cats have long been associated with Halloween, from the old superstition about black cats to the association of cats with witches, so it is all in-keeping.

As well as the typical Halloween jack-o’-lanterns, players will also be able to find a spooky cemetery, where bats flit through the skies. During the event players have the chance to pick up a witches hat, which can adorn the top of Konrad’s head. A broom has also appeared in the entrance area. This acts as a new interactive object and lets the kitten fly around the scene.

Konrad the Kitten has an unusual approach to interactivity and immersion, players can use ‘plushie mode’ which allows them to feel Konrad by attaching a controller to a fluffy toy, which acts as the ‘prop’ Konrad in the real world.

The experience for Konrad the Kitten is all about looking after Konrad as if he were a real pet, including feeding him, teaching him how to use a litter tray and, of course, petting and playing with him.

There are a variety of mini-games available, such as hunting mice, fishing or trying to get Konrad to beat his time through to obstacle course. The new Halloween event is re-occurring and it set to happen each year in the last two weeks of October.

Further information is available on the official Konrad the Kitten website. For future coverage on Konrad the Kitten, keep checking back with VRFocus.

Konrad the Kitten to Bring All Sorts of Cuteness to PlayStation VR Next Week

February looks set to be the month of cuteness, with Polyarc’s Moss coming to PlayStation VR and now FusionPlay has confirmed the release of Konrad the Kitten for the headset as well as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality.

Already available for PC headsets via Steam Early Access since August 2016, Konrad the Kitten will see a full launch across all formats on 23rd February, 2018. If you love animals – especially kittens – but don’t want a real one because of cost, allergies or any other reason then Konrad the Kitten might be just what you need.

The videogame takes a novel approach to virtual reality (VR) immersion by adding a real world plush toy into the mix. Players need to strap one of their controllers to a fluffy toy which will then act as Konrad. Meaning whilst they’re in the videogame world they can actually pick up Konrad as though he were a real pet. The experience itself is all about looking after Konrad, making sure he’s fed, teaching him how to use the litter box and so on.

But there’s also time to play with plenty of mini-games on offer. How about hunting mice, trying to catch as many of the nimble rodents as you can. Or how about putting Konrad’s skills to the test in the fishing game. There’s always the obstacle course, helping guid Konrad carefully and skilfully through rings. As you care and play with Konrad his experience increases and his love for you grows.

Of course what’s the point in having a digital cat if you can’t accessorise him. So in the Dress Room you can unlock more than 50 accessories and dress the poor kitten any way you want. How about cool glasses, a little hat or a suit for Konrad?

While PlayStation VR owners will have to wait until 23rd February, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality headset owners can buy Konrad the Kitten now for the Early Access price. On launch day that price is expected to be increased to £14.99 GBP. For any further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

Konrad the Kitten to Leave Early Access Next Month

FusionPlay are preparing virtual reality (VR) virtual pet simulation, Konrad the Kitten, for full release. Compatible with Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality head-mounted displays (HMDs), Konrad the Kitten takes the novel approach of attaching one motion-controller to a plush toy for true simulation.

Next month, players will be able to immerse themselves in the virtual world of Konrad the Kitten and experience the first virtual cat that feels like a real one. Players must look after Konrad and care for him as though he were a real pet, satisfying his needs and playing mini-games with him, unlocking more than 50 accessories as they progress.

Konrad obviously needs food, but also needs to be taught how to use a litter box. Conducting these routines in addition to playing mini-games with Konrad, such as hunting for mice or completing an obstacle course, will earn the player coins with which to purchase new items. In the Dress Room, players can unlock more than 50 accessories and dress Konrad any way you want; how about cool glasses, a funny little hat or a suit for Konrad?

As stated above, one of the unique features of Konrad the Kitten is the unique plush toy mode. This feature brings your plush toy to life as a virtual cat, letting you feel like it’s really there: hold it, cuddle it and play with it as though it were your real pet.

Konrad the Kitten launched as a Steam Early Access title back in 2016, and has since received numerous updates and free expansions. Originally launched as version 0.2, Konrad the Kitten debuted with just three areas and 12 interactive objects, and three mini-games. Since that time the videogame has undergone a considerable amount of polish in preparation for its official launch.

FusionPlay are preparing to launch Konrad the Kitten on 16th February 2018. The videogame is currently available for £8.99 GBP as a Steam Early Access title, but upon its official launch Konrad the Kitten will see a price increase to £14.99, so there’s still time to jump on board and receive an early adopter discount. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on Konrad the Kitten and other forthcoming VR titles from FusionPlay.
