Healthy App BoxVR Set to Leave Early Access for Oculus Quest Launch

It has been well documented that due to the unique room-scale properties of virtual reality (VR) gaming, that some of the energetic titles out there can help burn some extra calories, you can even lose weight if you play enough. This last part is one of the founding principles behind FitXR’s workout app BoxVR. And it will soon be fully released, with a date set for 21st May.

BoxVR

Originally released into Steam Early Access in 2017, BoxVR is a rhythm-based boxing title where players can jab, hook and uppercut their way through a selection of workouts designed to get the heart pumping, the forehead sweating and the calories receding.

Developer FitXR launched the PlayStation VR version of BoxVR a couple of weeks ago and is now preparing to release the Oculus Quest version next Tuesday, 21st May. To coincide with that, the Steam and Oculus store versions currently in Early Access will see an official launch the same day.

That will also mean the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality versions will see new environments to train in, 110 audio tracks to workout to (you can also add your own) and use in the My Workouts mode, reworked workouts plus 15 brand new workouts, all of which will be available for use in Multiplayer.

BoxVR

All these extra features do come at a price however, with the cost of BoxVR going up accordingly. Currently retailing for £14.99 GBP on Steam, once it leaves Early Access BoxVR will retail for £24.99 ($29.99 USD).

Additionally, the team have also said: “If you already own BoxVR on the Oculus Store and are planning to purchase an Oculus Quest system, we’ve got you covered. BoxVR on the Oculus platform will be part of their cross-buy initiative, which means if you have bought or plan on buying BoxVR in the future, you will only have to pay $0 to have BoxVR available on the Oculus Quest.” So if you have thought about purchasing the title, then grabbing it in the next few days will save some cash.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of BoxVR and Oculus Quest, updating you with the latest announcements.

Work Out With ‘BOXVR’ for Free on Rift, Vive & Windows VR This Weekend

The world can be a stressful place, and for many one of the quickest ways to relax is to turn to food. But if you’re finding yourself staring at the bottom of a Doritos bag more often than you see your own reflection in the gym, this weekend’s free access period with BOXVR (2017) might help get you back in the habit of getting up and burning off the week’s indiscretions.

BOXVR, a VR rhythm game from the fitness experts at FitXR, offers a number of boxing workouts that will get you punching to the beat of your own music.

Including everything from short three-minute warm ups to 20+ minute endurance workouts, BOXVR also records every workout and gives an estimation of how many calories you’ve burned over time. Reminder: a serving size for Doritos is 11 chips, which contain 140 calories.

The free weekend starts today, October 5th, at 10:00 AM PT (local time) and goes until October 8th at 10:00 PM PT (local time), which should give you plenty of time to figure out if BOXVR fits into your virtual workout routine.

Oculus Store users can download BOXVR here on Rift. Steam users can download BOXVR here for Rift, Vive, and Windows VR. BOXVR is normally priced at $20.

Play VR Rhythm Game ‘BOXVR’ on Rift for Free This Weekend

BOXVR (2017), a VR boxing rhythm game from fitness game studio FitXR, is hosting a free access period for Rift players this weekend.

BoxVR’s free access weekend takes place between May 3rd and May 7th, ending at 3:00 AM ET (local end time here). Simply download the game via the Oculus Store and get punching, ducking, and dodging to the beat.

The game, which pits you against a variety of incoming punching targets and barriers, features some pretty high BPM music, resulting in a calorie-burning workout that will get you squatting and shadow boxing until you can’t take any more.

With all of the limelight on Beat Saber (2018) following its spectacular release, which saw it shoot to the number one spot on Steam, BoxVR is determined to not be overlooked, as it just updated to add a new futuristic environment, new punching cues that are “more natural to hit,” and two new beginner workouts.

The game currently boasts a 4/5 star rating on the Oculus Store, and a 98% positive review rate on Steam.

Although punching cues have changes somewhat since launch, check out VR Fitness Insider’s mixed reality video below to see what’s in store:

Lose Weight in VR, with BOXVR, in Early Access Today

Christmas is well and truly over. Most of you will have taken your stockings and trees down by now, and as for the rest of you; are you okay? The holiday season has finished and we’ve eaten our fill of mince pies and other festive feasts, and as a result, many of us are feeling a bit weightier than we were before December started. It’s probably just our collective imagination, but just in case it’s not, there’s BOXVR to help us trim down in time for Spring.

BOXVR hits Early Access today, and it’s a good opportunity to get moving again. It’s a rhythm fitness game where you strap on a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) and workout while listening to tunes.

Many of the workouts are actually designed by professional fitness instructors, giving BOXVR an edge over many other VR workout titles. Five instructors were picked from the London studio fitness scene and they worked with the developers at FitXR to create regular updates.

If you grab BOXVR today you’ll find updates from Ianthe and Jono, who created these workouts to beat January blues and work off any excess weight.

The videogame will have three key features, which are of course the workouts, some algorithmic boxing workouts generated as music uploaded by the user plays, and an endless runner endurance mode. A surprisingly generous variety of features.

Sameer Baroova, co-founder of FitXR has high hopes for the future of BOXVR; “Since we initially launched BOXVR in June last year, it’s been our intention to bring the entire at-home workout experience to Oculus. We’re really pleased to be able to start the year with this announcement, and it will only be the first of many things to come for us and our community in the near future.”

Phil Greenspan, who manages Developer Strategy at Oculus Rift thinks this can have a positive impact on users; “January is a fitting time for us to begin our collaboration with FitXR. With many people resolving to get in shape for 2018, we think BOXVR is the perfect VR workout tool to bring in the new year for our users.”

You can watch a new trailer for BOXVR below. Let us know what you think of getting fit with VR in the comments below, and for all of the latest ways to get fit and stay healthy with technology, make sure to keep reading VRFocus.

Shed that Holiday Weight with New BOXVR Workouts

The holiday season is famed for overindulgence; mass food consumption and little in the way of exercise. However, FitXR has the antidote to the January regret, offering new workouts in BOXVR designed specifically to fight those seasonal excesses.

BOXVR screenshotBOXVR is a rhythm based fitness videogame which brings high intensity boxing workouts into virtual reality (VR). While a number of different boxing videogames are available in VR, BOXVR features regularly updated workouts that are designed by real life boxing instructors. Ianthe, responsible for the two new workouts added to BOXVR, is part of a team of five instructors who were handpicked from the London fitness scene.

Sameer Baroova, co-founder of FitXR commented; “Our aim at FitXR is to use VR to create an engaging, immersive and fun fitness experience for our users – but also one that is genuinely effective and calorie busting.” He continues; “This is why we work with a team of fitness instructors to create regular, new workouts – each one with a flavour that reflects that particular instructor”

BOXVR launched as a Steam Early Access title in June 2017, and has since seen regular updates responding to community feedback. FitXR has also recently announced support for Windows Mixed Reality head-mounted displays (HMDs) and will soon be supporting Chinese, Korean, Dutch, German, Japanese, Spanish, French, Russian in addition to the English language. This will of course be in addition to the additional workouts, performance metrics and additional personalised guidance proposed as the Steam Early Access agenda.

Sam Cole, co-founder commented, “FitXR aims to become the go-to virtual reality workout solution for the home fitness market. We plan to create rhythm based workouts inspired not only by boxing, but also dance, martial arts and more, in order to become the definitive workout-at-home solution.”

BOXVR is available via Steam as an Early Access title, compatible with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality HMDs. From today, 21st December 2017, until 4th January 2018, BOXVR will be available at a discount of 25% from the typical price point of £14.99 GBP. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest from FitXR.
