AFFECTED: The Manor – Complete Edition Revamps the Horror Experience for Halloween

Affected: The Manor CE

It’s almost tradition that studios will release some sort of spooky theme for their videogames around Halloween but what do you do if your game is already scary? Well, in the case of Fallen Planet Studios’ horror title AFFECTED: The Manor it’s all about giving the experience a revamp whilst bringing all its DLC together in one easy to manage package.

Affected: The Manor CE

Called AFFECTED: The Manor – Complete Edition, VRFocus first reported on this new version at the end of 2020, with the initial expectation it was going to arrive in Q1 2021. Now its set to arrive next week, with PlayStation VR owners seeing the biggest changes. Fallen Planet Studios says the PlayStation VR edition gets “innumerable updates and improvements” with higher polygon models and a completely redesigned path system for starters.

While PC VR and Oculus Quest owners of AFFECTED: The Manor have previously been treated to extras like spooky speed run mode The Gauntlet and the frightening The Darkness mode, both are now coming to PlayStation VR for the first time. On top of all of that, no matter which platform you play AFFECTED: The Manor – Complete Edition on, it’ll now feature support for 10 languages, single-handed gameplay and a skin tone shader.

So is there anything special coming to the Oculus Quest and PC VR versions you ask? Most definitely. As a Halloween treat there’s a hidden secret: the Architect’s Room. You’ll need to be observant whilst exploring the manor to find the room: “inside will be all manner of secrets – both here in the present and for the future,” the studio notes.

“Everyone at Fallen Planet Studios is very happy to be bringing AFFECTED: The Manor – Complete Edition to the entire VR community,” said Alex Moretti, CEO Fallen Planet Studios in a statement. “This package is the culmination of more than half-a-decade’s work in creating VR horror experiences, and we can’t wait to see players across all VR platforms experience the ultimate virtual haunted house this Halloween!”

For PlayStation VR, AFFECTED: The Manor – Complete Edition will be available from 28th October 2021, priced at $9.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP, with a 20% launch discount for PlayStation Plus members. If you already own the videogame then it’s a free update. The PC VR version also arrives on the same date whilst the Oculus Quest version lands slightly sooner, on 25th October. AFFECTED: The Manor – The Complete Edition Coming in Q1 2021

Affected: The Manor

Fallen Planet Studios’ virtual reality (VR) horror AFFECTED: The Manor will be rolling out a revamped version it’s just been announced. The studio has been working on AFFECTED: The Manor – The Complete Edition for all currently supported platforms, slated to arrive early next year.

Affected: The Manor

Over the course of 2020, the studio has released DLC in the form of The Gauntlet as well as the Darkness update. The former added a speed run challenge with randomised events plus the ability to record a player’s screams for a final rating. Whilst the Darkness update made the experience even creepier, providing players with just a candle to light their way.

Both of these additions came to Oculus Quest first, with the PC VR edition getting them soon after. However, whilst the PlayStation VR version first arrived a couple of years ago, its yet to receive these updates. That’ll change with AFFECTED: The Manor – The Complete Edition. Arriving in Q1 2021, current owners will get the complete package as a free update. New owners simply purchase AFFECTED: The Manor – The Complete Edition.

This will be the same for the Oculus Quest and Steam versions as well. In addition to the new bundle, Fallen Planet Studios will also be visually overhauling the videogame across all platforms, further enhancing the experience.

Affected: The Manor

Originally released back in 2016 for Gear VR, AFFECTED: The Manor offered an ‘on-rails’, walkthrough horror experience much like classic haunted house rides. Since then, Fallen Planet Studiosw enhanced the title by catering for 6DoF technology, adding interactive elements to help players feel more connected to the world.

As Fallen Planet Studios reveal further updates to its AFFECTED series, VRFocus will let you know.

If you love a good scare whether for Halloween or at any other time of year then virtual reality (VR) horror is where it’s at. As any VR gamer knows once that headset is on and the doors start to creak and the wind begins to howl, no other horror medium really compares. So to celebrate the spooky season VRFocus has got a bunch of codes to giveaway for Fallen Planet Studios’ Affected: The Manor on Oculus Quest.

Affected: The Manor

Becoming a horror favourite with VR fans since its initial release back in 2016 for Gear VR, the studio has kept the title up to date by expanding platform support as well as adding new elements to the experience. The title is set around the classic haunted manor, offering a sort of ‘walkthrough horror’ in the first instance.

But as VR has progressed so has Affected: The Manor. When the Oculus Quest version was first revealed last year the studio said: “To take advantage of Quest’s abilities, we brought hand avatars and interactivity to the experience for the first time, making you feel more ingrained in the environment.” This meant interacting with doors for example.

Then during the summer, the team released The Gauntlet, free DLC which allows players to speed run with randomised events for a new challenge. This month saw the launch of The Darkness update to coincide with the launch of Oculus Quest 2. A new gameplay mode, this provides players with only a candle as their source of light. Quest 2 also got some enhancements like dynamic lighting and improve visuals.

Free DLC ‘The Gauntlet’ Arrives Today for Affected: The Manor on Oculus Quest

The Gauntlet

A couple of days ago Fallen Planet Studios teased information regarding its Affected horror franchise on Oculus headsets. Today, the studio has confirmed a free DLC package called The Gauntlet is due to arrive for Affected: The Manor on Oculus Quest.

The Gauntlet

Providing virtual reality scares since 2016, The Gauntlet will give Affected: The Manor fans a unique speed run challenge with randomised events. Players will be able to compete against others on a global leaderboard with the new content utilising the headset’s built-in microphone to detect screams, measuring their fear in the process. At the end of the run they’ll get a rating.

“With over 300,000 downloads to date, we know Affected: The Manor has been a staple for many VR users because it provides such an immersive experience at its core. With simple controls and independent of traditional gameplay, we can increase immersion and focus firmly on building
tension,” said Alex Moretti, CEO Fallen Planet Studios in a statement.

Alongside the DLC Affected: The Manor will gain enhanced language options including German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean, with Portuguese, Italian, Russian and Chinese in the works.

The Gauntlet

“The addition of The Gauntlet now offers a much more immediate and dynamic experience for fans of The Manor, with randomised events that really challenge the player, allowing for both progression and replayability,” Moretti adds. “We wanted to provide this new DLC for free to our community, accompanied by a sale on its Quest release for any newcomers to Affected.”

Originally designed as a ‘walkthrough horror’, with the launch of the Oculus Quest version Affected: The Manor added extra functionality. This meant hand avatars and interactivity for the first time, so players could open doors, for example, increasing the level of immersion and that all-important scare factor.

Affected: The ManorThe Gauntlet will launch tomorrow, 9th July for Oculus Quest owners. The free DLC will then be made available for Oculus Rift next week followed by Steam in August. Fallen Planet Studios has also confirmed development of a PlayStation VR version.

As the studio continues to release further updates for Affected: The Manor, VRFocus will let you know.

First Oculus Quest Screenshots of Affected: The Manor Appear

On Friday 13th in September, British virtual reality (VR) developer Fallen Planet Studios announced it was working on an Oculus Quest version of its popular haunted house title, Affected: The Manor. This week the studio released the first couple of screenshots of the port, and it’s already looking promising.

Affected: The Manor - Oculus Quest

Affected: The Manor became a horror favourite among VR fans back in 2016 when the title first arrived for Gear VR. Since then the experience has been ported to the likes of Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR. Due to the technology when Affected: The Manor was originally developed its less of a videogame and more of a ‘walkthrough horror’ as the studio has previously described it, with players only able to affect movement.

The Oculus Quest version, on the other hand, is going to get a few upgrades. As Fallen Planet Studios’ CEO Alex Moretti mentions in a blog post: “To take advantage of Quest’s abilities, we brought hand avatars and interactivity to the experience for the first time, making you feel more ingrained in the environment. Small additions include the ability to interact with doors (they opened automatically before) and other parts of the environment; all intended to make you really feel like you’re in that manor!”

Even with those new interactions, Affected: The Manor still won’t be gamified with items like puzzles or trying to find keys to unlock doors. The team see this as an important factor, keeping the entry-level simple so anyone can enjoy the experience.

Affected: The Manor - Oculus Quest

Affected: The Manor is the only consumer-focused VR title the studio has released but the franchise does include many other editions aimed at location-based entertainment (LBE). These include Affected: Ghost Rider, a motion simulator at a theme park in South Korea; Affected: The Visit made in collaboration with Ultrahaptics, and Affected: The Hotel in Las Vegas. Work is also still ongoing with Affected: The Carnival, with more details still to come.

Fallen Planet Studios is currently aiming to have Affected: The Manor out for 28th November on Oculus Quest. If that does slide VRFocus will let you know as soon as possible.

ImmotionVR’s Cabot Circus Branch now Features Mid-air Haptic Feedback on AFFECTED: The Visit

Having open two new locations in the UK back in December 2018, location-based entertainment (LBE) specialist in virtual reality (VR) ImmotionVR has announced an upgrade to its Cabot Circus experience centre in Bristol, UK.

Affected: The Visit flyer

Working with Ultrahaptics and Fallen Planet Studios, the ImmotionVR location has seen the installation of AFFECTED: The Visit with mid-air haptic feedback technology. Harnessing Ultrahaptics ultrasound system, guests will be able to enjoy a specially adapted version of Fallen Planet Studio’s horror experience AFFECTED: The Manor.

For those that have the nerve, customers will be able to enter a virtual haunted house and experience a number of surprising events that have been augmented with mid-air haptic sensations. Previously shown at trade shows in the US such as the IAAPA Attractions Expo and CES, this will be the first time that the UK public will be able to experience it first hand.

Tom Carter, CTO and Co-Founder of Ultrahaptics spoke of the partnership: “Audiences have really loved AFFECTED: The Visit, but we have only been able to share it with the US so far. This collaboration provides an opportunity to showcase UK companies and what they have to offer the growing virtual reality market. We can’t wait to share it with our home audience.”

Affected - The Manor

“We are delighted to be collaborating with Ultrahaptics and ImmotionVR on this exciting new installation,” said Alex Moretti, CEO of Fallen Planet Studios. “Immersion is key to the VR experiences that Fallen Planet Studios creates, by implementing Ultrahaptics’ mid-air technology we are able to deepen that level of immersion to new levels, without saddling the user with additional hardware for them to navigate. This combines to create a compelling out-of-home experience that really has to be felt to be believed. To be unveiling this installation in partnership with the ImmotionVR brand, is a testament to the quality of their arcades and highlights the UK’s fast-growing interest in location-based VR.”

The normal AFFECTED: The Manor can be found at all of ImmotionVR’s UK locations, with AFFECTED: The Visit only available at the Bristol location. Affected: The Manor Brings its Horror Chills to PlayStation VR Tomorrow

Having originally released for Samsung Gear VR in 2016, Fallen Planet Studios’ horror experience Affected: The Manor then arrived for Oculus Rift the following year. Having gained popularity thanks to its pacing and atmosphere, the title is now set to arrive on PlayStation VR tomorrow.

Affected - The Manor

Affected: The Manor isn’t a full-blown virtual reality (VR) horror with puzzles to solve or monsters to fight. It’s what Fallen Planet Studios calls a ‘walkthrough horror’, where players have control of their movement and nothing else. Set in a dimly-lit haunted house where suspense, audio, and lighting are used for dramatic effect, Affected: The Manor offers variety in the form of two alternate routes and four different endings – if you’re not too scared to watch again.

“We are delighted to bring Affected: The Manor to PSVR,” said Alex Moretti, CEO of Fallen Planet Studios in a statement. “Our Oculus version is a top user rated experience and has been since its release, so to be able to make it available for the PlayStation community is really exciting for us. During design we deliberately removed any complicated mechanics and eschewed convoluted puzzles, so with just one button to move in any direction that the player is facing, it enables full immersion within the experience; it really is virtual reality at its core. As a studio, quality is so important to us feel and we really feel we have created the best horror walkthrough in VR. The ratings we have received on previous platforms is testament to that and we have worked for a long time on our PSVR build to get it to the quality that people expect from a Fallen Planet release.”

Affected1

Today’s announcement isn’t just about Affected: The Manor, as fans of the title will know that it’s part of a trilogy. Affected: The Asylum and Affected: The Carnival were originally slated for a 2017 release but have now been confirmed for next year. In another twist, it looks as though all three may arrive on disk for PlayStation VR with Rob Edwards, MD of Perp Games commenting: “We are thrilled that one of the most successful VR experiences is coming to PSVR. The scares and horror within the Manor are just the start and we are very excited to be working with Fallen Planet Studios on a very special Physical Release in 2019.”

Affected: The Manor is available on the PlayStation Store from 27th November in all territories for £5.99 GBP / €5.99 EUR / $7.99 USD. For further updates on the other two titles, keep reading VRFocus.

More Content for Affected series coming soon to Oculus Rift

Popular horror title Affected: The Manor was launched for Oculus Rift last week after being available for Gear VR. Now developer Fallen Planet is working on new instalments in the series.

Affected was originally a tech demo designed for the Oculus development kit, the DK1. A version titled Affected: The Manor later came out for mobile VR on the Gear VR where it enjoyed renewed popularity, reaching no. 1 in the mobile apps section of the Oculus Store. The new version is now available for Oculus Rift complete with Touch support.

Affected1

Fallen Planet is currently working on future titles in the series. The second instalment, Affected: The Asylum expected to be released for Oculus Rift in May, followed by The Carnival in October, just in time for Halloween. The developer is also working on Affected: The Cabin, which will be a much longer, narrative experience inspired by the works of renowned horror filmmakers such as John Carpenter and David Lynch.

Fallen Planet Creative Director Mark Paul said in an interview on Oculus’ blog: “First and foremost, we wanted to make something entertaining. We use horror as a vehicle for these VR experiences, but we try to make sure they’re never gory or gratuitous. That can be off-putting to a lot of people, especially when it’s in VR! Essentially, we recreate the live haunted house walk-throughs that are already so popular around the world. When you add VR into that equation, it makes for a very powerful experience.”

Affected: The Manor is available now through the Oculus Store for £5.99 (GBP).

VRFocus will keep you updated with further content for the Affected series.

‘Affected: The Manor’ Coming to Rift Oculus Rift & Touch this Month, Vive to Follow

A popular horror title on Gear VR, the latest instalment of the Affected franchise will be coming to Oculus Rift with Touch motion controller support in February, according to developers Fallen Planet.

The Affected series and developers Fallen Planet can probably be considered OG’s of the virtual reality horror scene at this point. The original title appeared with Oculus Rift DK1 support back in the day, with support for DK2 coming later. The series’ first commercial release came to the Gear VR in last year in the form of Affected: The Manor, and was well received by our brave and intrepid horror guinea pig Chris Madsen. Chris wrote at the time:

This is the most polished version yet with new effects such as gazed based triggers, alternative paths to follow and awesome staged events that made the series so much fun to begin with. The controls are simple, moving forward by holding down the touch pad allows users to focus on the dilapidated environment and unnerving events unfolding around them. Priced at $2.99, The Manor is a purchase that will keep on giving as you demo it again and again to those wanting a taste of VR horror. The reactions alone will be worth the price of admission.

Now, Fallen Planet have announced that they’ll be endeavouring to scare the crap out of desktop PC users with both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive versions on their way.

AFFECTED-The-Manor-3The Oculus Rift version of Affected: The Manor on will ship in February, available via the Oculus Store, and will sport full Touch motion controller support. The HTC Vive version will follow soon after, with the team promising to include both room scale and motion controller elements into the completed title and delivering “an extreme level of immersion”.

Affected: The Manor was expected to arrive on PC VR last year, with development pushed back owing to “big changes” at the studio.
