Obviously not every Kickstarter campaign can be successful. In the busy crowdfunding space, only those projects which capture the imagination tends to be a success. The eyeQ mixed reality binoculars was launched last month, and with a week left to go, has now met its initial funding goal.
The campaign was seeking $25,000 (USD) in funding, and with six days left on the campaign, its has succeeded, and as of writing is on $25,871. The campaign is due to end on 16th November, 2017.
The eyeQ is designed to use a system similar to that used in mobile virtual reality (VR) systems such as the Samsung Gear VR or Google Daydream. By placing a smartphone in a specially designed binocular housing, users can zoom in up to 16x to magnify what they are looking at, whilst simultaneously recording events, enabling users to enjoy events such as sports games or concerts but also keep a digital record for posterity.
With a few days still left to go, some of the discount funding tiers are still available, such as the $129 tier, which is a discount of 48% on the planned retail price. This tier comes with a reward of the eyeQ smart capture binoculars, a micro USB charging cable and adjustable neck strap.
Backers who have already pledged are encouraged to share the campaign with family and friends for the chance to gain access to additional rewards as part of the Share Rewards program. The more people sign up, the more rewards are unlocked.
At this point it is unlikely that any of the more ambitious stretch goals, such as the $35,000 goal which will unlock additional colour options or a free eyeQ accessory such as a carrying bag or monopod, but that doesn’t mean it is impossible, and things can change quickly in the world of crowdfunding.
Further details on the eyeQ binoculars can be found on the Kickstarter page, and VRFocus will bring you further news on the project as it develops.
