Something for the Weekend: All the Best PlayStation VR Deals

The PlayStation VR recently celebrated its first year of commercial availability with a sale on many software titles via the PlayStation Store. However, now that sale has closed, yet several titles are still available for a reduced price. VRFocus looks at the US PlayStation Store to bring you the best titles and downloadable content (DLC) available at a discounted price today.

The current sale on PlayStation VR content on the US PlayStation Store has an expectedly spooky theme. With Halloween fast approaching, it’s no surprise that experiences revolving around zombies and supernatural goings-on are featured in the latest round of price reductions. You can find every PlayStation VR title currently available at a reduced price below, including direct links for purchase from the US PlayStation Store.

Bloody Zombies VR gif

Bloody Zombies

nDreams’ second PlayStation VR title, Bloody Zombies, launched last month to significant acclaim. Despite being a 2D scrolling beat-‘em-up, developer Paw Print Games has cleverly implemented the virtual reality (VR) compatibility, woven deeply into a co-operative videogame that doesn’t demand all players have access to a head-mounted display (HMD). Bloody Zombies is available to purchase via the US PlayStation Store for $11.09 USD, down from $14.99, for a limited time.

DYING: Reborn

One of Oasis Games’ first PlayStation VR titles, DYING: Reborn casts the player as an investigator who gets to unravel the case of a lost sister and the series of eerie events following the disappearance. The player will explore a series of fragments that together form three chapters of Mathew’s story. DYING: Reborn can be purchased via the US PlayStation Store for $4.99, down from $9.99, until 31st October 2017.

DYING: Reborn Ultimate Bundle

An expanded package including the above DYING: Reborn for PlayStation VR as well as the PlayStation Vita edition of the videogame, DYING: Reborn Ultimate Bundle includes six Chapters in the twisted story of Mathew, who went out to look for his missing sister only to find himself waking up in a dilapidated and eerie hotel with seemingly no way out. The DYING: Reborn Ultimate Bundle is now available to purchase for $12.49, reduced from $24.99.

Paranormal Activity The Lost SoulParanormal Activity: The Lost Soul

The long-awaited PlayStation VR edition of Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul launched back in August 2017, and with it brought a new style of horror to VR. Armed with a flashlight, you find yourself exploring what appears to be a quiet average looking home in a woodsy neighbourhood. Before long, you discover you’re not alone as you unravel the mystery of what’s gone on in this house and struggle to survive the terror that begins to hunt you. This original story, based on the mythology of the massively popular Paranormal Activity film franchise, is built from the ground up for VR. You can check out VRFocus’ own Nina’s thoughts on Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul in a hands-on video, and purchase the videogame at a 30% discount from the US PlayStation Store.

Resident Evil 7 - FamilyResident Evil VII biohazard

One of the PlayStation VR’s biggest hits to date, Resident Evil VII biohazard is on sale for $35.99, a reduction of 40% from its typical price. Thumper Screenshot 1Thumper

The final videogame currently available at a discounted price on the US PlayStation Store is arguably at odds with the Halloween theme of the other titles on offer; Thumper is a rhythm-action experience featuring blistering speed and brutal physicality. Playing as a space beetle, players will scream down the endless track and crash through punishing obstacles with simple controls. Thumper is available to purchase at a discounted price of $11.99, saving 40% from the typical price of $19.99, until 31st October 2017.

Light Tracer Announced for PlayStation VR, HTC Vive & Oculus Rift

Independent videogame developer and publisher Oasis Games is bringing three PlayStation VR titles to showcase at the 5th annual BitSummit festival in Kyoto, Japan. Light Tracer, debuting at the event, has been confirmed for release on PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Virtual reality (VR) puzzle adventure Light Tracer will formed part of the showcase of titles, attendees at BitSummit got an early look at the gameply of the videogame, which is being developed for PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Light Tracer is story-driven puzzler adventure title which has some similarities with Ico, only with some unique VR features; perspective is key as some puzzle solutions lie in the way the player looks at things. The aim is to guide a princess up an ancient Babylonian tower as part of a quest to save her country, which has fallen victim to some mysterious malaise. A release date for the title has not yet been confirmed.

Dying: Reborn is making it’s debut in Japan as part of the showcase. Dying: Reborn is another puzzle title, although this one has a dark horror theme. Users must find, collect and use items to unlock the mystery of the place they are trapped in to escape the spooky, mysterious rooms. Dying: Reborn is already available for PlayStation VR in North America and Europe, with some limited availability in Asia.

Weeping Doll title

The third VR title on show is Weeping Doll, a creepy horror story where dolls can come alive and reflect the dark emotions of the children that own them. Exploration and puzzle-solving make up the gameplay and the spooky depths of the storyline are slowly revealed. Similar to Dying: Reborn, Weeping Doll is already out in North America, Europe and some countries in Asia.

VRFocus will bring you further information on upcoming PlayStation VR titles and VR-related events.

Oasis Games Comments On PAX East Appearance

Leading independent Chinese games publisher Oasis Games has been enjoying a busy few days as part of PAX East in Boston. It is the company’s first ever appearance at a North American consumer event.

The company of course has several upcoming titles, such as PlayStation VR (PSVR) room escape horror game Dying: Reborn, colourful pixel shoot-em-up Pixel Gear and action PVP strategy game Tiger Knight: Empire War.

DYING Reborn12

Oasis Games were previously responsible for releasing psychological puzzle-horror game Weeping Doll, in which a Victorian maid must unravel the mystery of a vanished family as a creepy doll stalks the hallways. In a sharp contrast, they also published slapstick shooter Ace Banana in which the player must defend a pile of bananas by using a bow and arrow to shoot potential banana thieves.

“We’re thrilled that PAX East is our first public event in North America,” said Alen Wu, Global Business Director for Oasis Games. “Attendees will be able to check out Dying: Reborn for all PlayStation platforms before the bundle is released, compete in 5 v 5 matches for Tiger Knight: Empire War and enjoy the fan-favorite PS VR game Pixel Gear.”

Pixel Gear multiplayer

PAX East (Penny Arcade Expo East) finishes its run today, having been in Massachusetts on 10th-12th March, 2017 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Centre. VRFocus will bring you further updates on Oasis Games when we get them.

New PSVR Releases For Week Of 02/26/17

New PSVR Releases For Week Of 02/26/17

It’s GDC week and it looks like most all of the developers are there rather than actually, y’know, releasing their games. It’s slim pickings for PlayStation VR (PSVR) owners this week, though not without hope. There is a new horror experience to check out and one of VR’s most interesting educational experiences so far, so you do have a reason to hop into virtual reality this weekend, but nothing earth-shattering is set to release for some time yet.

If you missed last week, you can see those new releases here. Also, UploadVR has launched the ‘UploadVR PS VR Community’ on PlayStation 4! Join up, find other gamers to play with, and engage in discussions with them.

Also, don’t forget to check out our list of the 9 Best PlayStation VR Games if you need any extra inspiration.

Dying: Reborn PSVR, from Oasis Games
Price: $9.99

This one’s a bit strange. Dying: Reborn PSVR is not the full game, which is available without VR support for $19.99. Instead, it’s the first three chapters of it, which you can play in VR. Charging for what’s essentially a demo for the full experience seems a little suspect, but if you’re longing for more horror on PSVR then that might not bother you. The fish head guy is certainly creepy.

Recommendation: Given Oasis Games’ past record we’d recommend passing on this, but we’ll have a full review next week.

Apollo 11, from Immersive VR Education
Price: £9.49 (Only in EU)

This is a great example of what PSVR can do for education. Apollo 11 was released on PC VR platforms a long time back but now comes to Sony’s console as a guided piece that lets you experience what it must have been like to land on the Moon. If you’re interested in VR education’s potential, don’t miss out.

Recommendation: Definitely worth a look.

Room Escape Horror Game Dying: Reborn Launched on PlayStation VR

Chinese videogame publisher Oasis Games (Weeping Doll, Ace Banana) has today launched room escape horror game Dying: Reborn for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation VR (PSVR) platforms.

Dying: Reborn, which VRFocus previewed back in November, is described as a horror-themed room escape puzzle game in first-person. Players take on the role of Matthew, who is looking for his missing sister after receiving a mysterious note. He finds himself trapped in a hostel with no memory of how he got there and must solve a variety of puzzles in order to escape.

DyingReborn_KeyArt

It’s been a rewarding journey working with the developer, NEKCOM, to introduce the frightening world of DYING: Reborn to players across all PlayStation platforms,” said Alen Wu, Global Business Director for Oasis Games. “Our commitment to keeping our games exciting throughout a diverse line-up will be elevated with today’s launch.”

Troy Dunniway, COO at NEKCOM had this to say; We created DYING: Reborn to emphasize the popularity of real-life room escapes and bring it to PlayStation players in the comfort of their own home. We strive to challenge players to think outside of the box and DYING: Reborn will reward players who can think creatively.”

Dying: Reborn is out now for PS4 and PSVR, priced at $19.99 (USD) for the PS4 version and $9.99 (USD) for the PSVR version.

VRFocus will keep you updated on further information about Dying:Reborn and other PSVR products.

DYING: Reborn Escapes onto PlayStation VR Next Week

Oasis Games has been a prolific publisher for PlayStation VR, having already released TVR’s Ace Banana, Pixel Gear from Geronimo Interactive, and TianShe Media’s Weeping Doll on the platform. Now its confirmed Nekcom’s DYING: Reborn is set to arrive next week.

DYING: Reborn is a dark, horror-themed, first-person escape room experience. Players are cast as Mathew a distraught young man on a mission to find his missing sister, after receiving a mysterious note from her. He then awakens in a strange and eerie hostel with no recollection of how he landed there. Players must escape the hostel, solving a variety of puzzles whilst exploring the rooms for clues. These are hidden throughout the hostel, so players will need a keen eye to piece together the mystery.

DYING Reborn2

The standard PlayStation 4 version consists of six chapters, while PlayStation VR has three immersive chapters. DYING: Reborn will launch on 28th February.

PlayStation VR has seen a steady stream of releases in 2017, with big name titles such as Resident Evil 7 biohazard and DiRT Rally VR arriving. There’s also been Ninja Theory’s DEXED, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin by Double Fine, VR Ping Pong from Reddoll and Mervils: A VR Adventure by VitruviusVR.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Oasis Games, reporting back with the latest announcements.

Preview: DYING: Reborn

DYING: Reborn is the longest and appears to be the most thought into of the titles published by Oasis Games, and it echoes many similar themes to other critically acclaimed films and games that it should gear you up for a quality game, however from the lack of completion there is still a lot left to be desired.

When starting up DYING: Reborn there isn’t the usual menu to choose a game, but instead the player must walk into a certain room to start the chapter, and just from first impressions it gives off the rather putrid air of something you’d see in a Saw movie. The graphics are edging on to hyper realistic as much as it possibly can in VR, and the quality of it is actually quite crisp compared to many other titles. To enter the first chapter players are to lean into the bed, which is actually quite puzzling but undoubtedly sets the mood.

DYING Reborn4

What was shown off during the preview, which is all that is polished off for now, was not much at all, except for the promise of the overall experience. What kicks the title off is wandering around a dark and dingy room that you’re locked inside of where in the centre is what seems like a hospital bed – but not quite. Surrounding the bed were various bits of furniture, such as a piano which was where you have to solve your first puzzle. Compared to most other puzzles that feature in VR titles like these, such as in Weeping Doll or The Assembly, which can sometimes come across as patronising, DYING: Reborn goes the whole mile in racking your brain and can easily have you sat there for a good 10 minutes.

Using the Dualshock 4 controller, players move freely around the setting, but because of the cautious nature of the title there is no need to run around and test out whether or not you feel like chucking up your lunch. However, this only counts for moving forwards as you turn in 90 degree angles as the screen fades to black for a moment. With this feature you are, however, prone to miss out on some of the small movements, such as when the cover of the piano keys falls without any prompt.

DYING Reborn1

What does give it a nice touch is the Silent Hill-esque writing that comes up as you inspect objects and so on, which is another familiar feature to give you high expectations. Considering it is in VR, it is done well as it sticks to the middle of your gaze.

Before you are able to finish up escaping the room to embark on your eerie adventure, there is a moment where it appears as though you are listening to a fuzzy television, but in actuality it is you conversing with a paranormal voice, which explains the dilemma that you’re in. This stirs the feeling of a thickening plot, but as soon as that is done you’re out of the door and that’s it.

DYING: Reborn right now is the kind of game you have every finger crossed for to form into something of real substance, or, at the risk of sounding cliché, into a real game.

Four of Oasis Games’ Five PlayStation VR Titles Get Launch Dates

At Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE’s) PlayStation VR Asia Conference in July the company revealed a wide range of new titles for the headset by local indie studios and publishers. Seven videogames were shown from Chinese partners, with five coming from publisher Oasis Games Ltd. Today the company has announced launch dates or windows for four of these five projects.

Time of Virtual Reality’s (TVR) Ace Banana has been confirmed as a day one release on 13th October, with Pixel Gear from Geronimo Interactive on 20th October and Weeping Doll from TianShe Media shortly after on 27th October. Additionally, Nekcom’s DYING: Reborn has been confirmed for January 2017 while details on Mixip will be announced at a later date.

Pixel Gear

“We are immensely proud to have a strong and diverse PS VR lineup to offer players starting with our October launch titles,” said Alen Wu, Global Business Director for Oasis Games. “On October 13, we look forward to having our fun arcade archery game, Ace Banana out, with our shoot-em-up Pixel Gear and the dark, story driven psychological adventure, Weeping Doll to follow in the coming weeks in October. It’s going to be a great month for VR fans!”

The titles offer a mixture a gameplay styles and genres. Ace Banana’s a single-player and multiplayer co-op gallery shooter in which players assume the role of a Banana Archer who must protect a stash of bananas from hordes of mischievous monkeys. TVR’s other virtual reality (VR) title Mixip which doesn’t yet have a release date, is an arcade space shooter.

Pixel Gear is another shooter in a similar vein to Ace Banana, where enemies attack player in waves. This time though there are cartoon monsters, zombies and ghosts as enemies to defeat. The videogame features six levels, upgradeable weapons and  powerups that can slow down time.

Weeping Doll and DYING: Reborn are the complete opposite of the previous two, going down the horror route. Weeping Doll is a, story-driven psychological adventure with puzzle elements, where dolls come alive, animated and fuelled by the negative thoughts of their child owners. While DYING: Reborn is a horror-themed puzzle game in which players must work their way through a variety of rooms by examining, collecting and using items found along the way to figure out the puzzles.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Oasis Games, reporting back with the latest updates.

Chinese Studio Oasis Games Have Five PlayStation Launch Titles

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has been quite selective when it comes to allowing developers create games for its PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD) that will be coming out in October, but one studio has had the opportunity to create five different titles for its release.

Oasis Games, a Chinese publishing partner of Sony Computer Entertainment Shanghai (SCES), has shared its five titles that will be coming to PlayStation VR for 13th October on the PlayStation Blog. Each of these titles seem to differ a fair amount from each other, and range from survival horrors to playful pixelated shooters.

Pixel Gear

“Oasis Games is creating a wide range of fun titles for PlayStation VR, as shown in our launch lineup that ranges from colorful arcade archery to spooky horror to 3D pixel shooter,” said Alen Wu, business director for Oasis Games in a press release. “We are proud to have so many titles slated for the launch window, more than any other publisher, and this is a testament to our commitment to providing entertaining experiences for the global PS VR audience.”

Ace Banana is the first title detailed, and it puts the player into the shoes of a Banana Archer protecting their stash of bananas against cheeky monkeys trying ot grab at your goods. Using your Move controllers, you will simulate using a bow and arrow to impale the primates in both single and multiplayer.

mixip

The next title shouldn’t be mistaken by its screenshot featured on the blog post, as it is much more sinister, but in a way that makes it seem chaotic good. Weeping Doll is a story-driven horror adventure where dolls come to life, animated by angry thoughts when their children owners are wronged. Players will work through puzzles as an abused girl’s doll takes revenge on her parents.

Pixel Gear lightens the mood from the previous title as it is a pixelated colourful 3D shoot ’em up with wacky cartoon monsters and ghost enemies. Objects will be interactive, and weapons can be upgraded to slow down time.

Another scary one comes from Oasis Games with Dying: Reborn, but it is more familiar to us as it is an escape the room kind of title – only with more scary features than usual.

And finally, Mixip is an arcade space shooter where you control two ships at once, dodge heavy fire, upgrade your weapons, and take down bosses.
