The developer promises various challenges associated with each level, such as restrictions on which shades of light that can touch a mirror to increase difficulty. Experimentation is highly encouraged, as is toying with the magnetic orbs which can bend light beams to their will. Developer Chris Underwood describes the game experience as “comfortable and unpressured, yet engaging and involved.”

Bending the Light works with either the Oculus Touch controllers or a supporting gamepad allowing versatility to players who may not yet own Touch. Launching today, September 28th, the price is set for $15, though early players can grab the game on launch discount for just $10 (30% discount) once it launches the Oculus Store.

Indie Puzzle Title Bending The Light Coming To Oculus Rift

Something about the intuitive nature of tracked motion controls and the immersiveness of virtual reality (VR) seems to lend itself well to puzzle-based videogames. Fans of this genre who are owners of an Oculus Rift have another to look forward to with the forthcoming release of Bending The Light.

Independent developer Deeperbeige Games have been working on an atmospheric puzzle title for the Oculus Rift that involves crafting intricate patterns with beams of coloured light to solve puzzles, all set in a dream-like, mysterious world.

Players will need to master the placement of bronze mirrors that bounce the light beams off at an angle, as well as the central mechanic of the gameplay, magnetic orbs that bend the light beams by a certain amount. The light beams need to be sent in the correct direction to power up energy cells, and perhaps unlock a few secrets along the way.

There are 40 levels to solve, along with secrets collectables to be found, including some hidden puzzles to solve. Bending The Light was designed with the Oculus Rift with Touch in mind, but can also be played with a gamepad. Gameplay was created to be comfortable and relaxing, yet engaging.

Bending The Light is due for release on the Oculus Store on the 28th September. The normal price will be $14.99 (USD), but the title will launch with a discount of 33%, reducing the price to $9.99 for early bird players.
